One of the best fish and chips in London. The house mayo is amazing. Having said that, I understand that you as a business want to donate money to a charity (the water charity). However, if you intend your customers to pay for it at least ask us before putting the extra £1 in our bills. I don't want to be subsidising your virtue signalling. Also, you can't charge for tap water. I'm not complaining about the meagre £1, but rather of the hypocrisy of claiming to donate to charity when it's your customers paying for it. It's so easy to be generous with others' money.

Overall we had a nice evening at Culpeper. We had a nice table and atmosphere is relaxed and cozy. Service is attentive. Unfortunately, the menu was very limited, we assumed this is the style of the restaurant so we were not to bothered but it’s worth knowing. Also, for some reason, we both had really upset stomach after the meal which is really unfortunate. The only thing we shared was dessert… However, the food itself tasted beautifully, specially my dish which was the veggie option. I have some mixed feelings but overall I would go back to try again.

I actually would like to give 3.5 stars. Overall the location is beautiful. The menu looks good and I only have positive things to say about the drinks. What let the place down was the slow and inattentive service. Some of the food, like what I've pictured was fantastic; here we have the risotto and white chocolate lemon tart. These were the best two options in my opinion. Chips had no salt. Other mains looked less impressive or cared for, compared to the risotto. I ordered then cancelled the pie after seeing it was a stew with pastry top and an odd mixture for 'pie of the day' (tomato, pork and other bits). Anyway we had a nice lunch and I'm not trying to slate the place just to give good advice to people considering options. Also, in my opinion a bit more focus on service by the staff and perhaps another cook to support the kitchen, allowing more focus on some dishes would bring this place right up! Overall we had a nice lunch.

Nice Shoreditch pub. Didn't eat here but the food looked good. Drinks and prices were standard for the area. Got quite busy and we had to stand for a little while.

After seeing the reviews we were looking forward to a great roast. Unfortunately to be honest it was one of the worst I have ever had. The gravy was literally instant (super thin and no flavour) and I am fairly certain the potatoes were frozen. The lamb was mostly fat and to top it off one of our party is sick after the meal (not the first review mentioning this) Saving grace were the friendly staff and nice interior/location.

We loved our experience at The Culpeper. We booked a table at the restaurant for dinner and we were seated at a nice table at the window. The food was delicious and the service was amazing! The staff is very friendly and thoughtful, I even got a free brownie for my birthday ♡ We will come again for sure!

A black pudding scotch egg served fridge cold and totally hard boiled with fat showing in every layer. A beef roast with no pink showing and the 'gravy' was more like water. Not thickened and hardly any flavour. The pork roast would have been good if it hadn't of sat in the watery 'gravy' The Yorkshire pudding was good. Don't trust the instagram photos!

We had Sunday roast in the ground floor pub, many empty tables and lacked some music, warmth and atmosphere. Service was efficient but not very warm. Sunday roast was a big letdown and main reason for my low score. Bavette steak was not cut correctly and therefore very tough. Veggies and gravy were much too sweet, Yorkshire pudding was borderline burnt. Overall dish was not hearty but rather sweet. For £20 a plate, probably would not recommend and know much better quality Sunday roasts in London.

Food was inventive and tasty, environment was comfortable and cool, cocktails were boozy and interesting, and finally our service was exceptional. We loved both people who took care of us, they were thoughtful, kind and real. We would definitely go back and recommend to friends!

I can't mark in halves here so it'll have to be 5 or it'd have been 4 1/2. My only complaints are that the bed is smaller than at home, and maybe some form of potable shade for individual tables on the roof terrace in the extreme heat (us bloody ginger's!). Otherwise I loved it here, great location for where we want to go. The staff were great. Welcoming, helpful and gave great service. I liked the design of the place and enjoyed a drink in the bar and loved the meal on the roof terrace, the food was great. Would I come again, definitely, absolutely. Thank you.

A nice place. Meets all needs. Good food with a French twist ! Nice dinning room with an architecture feel and most importantly no music 🎵! ( Go to the ground floor is you don’t want to hear or be heard, or under 25 on a date). A short yet adequate menu with a good wine list too. Has room too…. Will try the sister place - The Buxton next time close by. Go try !

Went for a quick bite and I had no idea about the menu or style beforehand. As a pub it looked awesome. The restaurant on the first floor was nice with a nice selection of beers and cocktails but small selection of food. And it wasn’t that nice either. Very expensive and small portions and for sure not a place to eat with your hungry child. I guess our fault for not checking the menu before we sit but I’m tired with paying so much for average food in this city.

Located just down the road from our main office, this is a firm favourite. The staff are super friendly and even opened the roof bar a little early for us and our intenernational visitors! While there are A LOT of steps to get to the rooftop bar, it is well worth it. Great views and the whole area is surrounded by herbs and fruit grown for the restaurant. Smells amazing! Well worth a visit (and a climb).

Cool rooftop terrace with a view. Downstairs bar had a decent selection of beers, upstairs rooftop is more tailored towards cocktails. The staff are nice and very attentive on the rooftop.

I like the style and restaurant vibe, 70% old, brick, industrial design and 30% mix with modern decor. Bar and restaurant are not that loud, perfect for hangout and chat. There’s even rooftop to hang during the day, better book the table in advanced. Food wise, didn’t get to try much. They change menu for seasonal ingredient, will come back again see what it offers

So, have come here a lot over the years. Walk in today, areas closed and I have to then find a table to just get a drink? Seriously guys? Got some spin about health and safety being the reason for this. Seriously, get over yourself, you've lost the point. Last visit for me, there are other, better bars and pubs in this area. It was like going to school for a few drinks. I hope others also vote with their feet until this is fixed. First bar of the day for me, massive let down.

We came here for Sunday roast a few weeks ago and it was the perfect ambience. The service was quick, food was amazing. Definitely worth a Sunday roast trip with friends! I had the vegetarian option (Beetroot, Mushroom, Sweet Potato, & Goats Cheese Wellington) we also had some of the other roasts as well as every appetizer and we didn’t find anything we didn’t like. Will visit again!

Came in for the sunday lunch with a couple of friends. The portion sizes are fantastic and very reasonably priced overall; we ordered the pork, beef, and a vegan roast, all of which was fantastic. Only catch for me would be a little less of the cabbage with the pork as it was far too much, but the apple sauce made up for it very capably. I'll definitely be back!

The We didn't get a change... A very unfriendly girl told us to sit at the bar for drinks while a couple of customers were sitting around the place. But we came for dinner. Then without any excuse or friendly word we were told the kitchen was closed and she turned around and walked away. At 5 pm. Such a beautiful place, good vibes at first sight... It's a shame!

Really good food and ambience but the service is so bad it’s a shame. The waitresses were very unfriendly. We just ordered food and didn’t even ask for something extra - so we are still wondering why they acted so bad. Even before ordering food, the moment we sat there the waitress came to tell us we only have 1.5 h so we should order fast but in a very unfriendly way? The only thing we asked was when a friend came in to pick us up in the end when we were about to leave but we just wanted to finish off our beers and leave, so we asked if we could use a chair until people for the other tables arrive (there were plenty) - they said no saying they are booked? Which is fine we only wanted to take it for 5 min until we finish off our beer but they said no again in a very unfriendly way. There were plenty like lots (!) of free chairs - what’s the harm in using them for a few minutes until people arrive? No one came at the time we left. They all remained empty. Even our friend that came in for literally 5 min thought it’s weird. It’s sad that they have such unfriendly service despite amazing food. It’s also sad to be treated bad as we were looking forward to enjoy a nice Sunday roast in this place. Hence, I don’t think I’ll go there again :/.

Had a delicious birthday lunch with a friend back in July. There was an issue with an item not served as said but this was amended swiftly & without a fuss. Rooftop patio is lovely with great views. The whole meal was tasty and quite rich so the small portions were enough. Dessert was delicious and tangy. Waitress offered to take pics of my friend & I which was lovely. Loved exploring the garden and seeing what they grow there.

Came here for cocktails and the staff were wonderfully welcoming and accommodating, they were on hand to provide plates and forks and even went so far as to borrow a lighter from another customer! They saved the day - the cocktails were genuinely delicious too!

I came here to meet a friend for dinner and it was AMAZING. I was so impressed by both the ambiance and the cuisine. She said there’s an amazing rooftop which I’ll have to check out on my next visit. I really loved the variety of food and the freshness of all of the dishes. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Seems a pleasant enough place. Lots of tables with seats so good for meeting people. But the number of tables didn't make up for all but one pump being off and there being no cider. If try it again though as the batman was great under difficult circumstances.

I’m not local to this place at all but I wish I was (: it’s simply incredible and the team makes you feel so at home. I’m super picky with cocktails and the bartender managed to deal with it with a smile! Great selection of beers and wines too! Definitely coming back and need to try their food!

We had the absolute best stay at The Culpeper! The hotel itself was so wonderful and charming. Our room was lovely and cleaning services came regularly. We had absolutely no issues with noise either. The hotel is located between two great tube stations so getting around (especially as first timers in London) was soooo easy! Also I was delighted to be close to so many vintage stores on Brick Lane. Spitalfields was a great area to stay in. The Culpeper’s pub was awesome and we were provided with free welcome drinks! We had dinner in their restaurant our final night and the pork belly was a true highlight. Perhaps our favorite part of the stay was the free breakfast at the Buxton (just a 2 minute walk away). They had a nice sized menu we could order from and all the food was incredibly delicious! Coming from the US having a free AND delicious breakfast included in our stay felt like a dream! I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how wonderful the staff was as well. I really can’t gush enough about our stay and we will definitely stay here again in the future!

Nice place, good selection of beers and not too noisy. Great for drinks, would not go here for the food although that looked decent. There is many excellent restaurants in the area.

The food is pretentious and not as good as it should be, a bit pricey, very "Shoreditch" in those respects. Menu on web site is misleading. Staff were lovely, helpful, obliging, really nice. Atmosphere very pleasant. Clearly a popular venue.

Last minute booking for Sunday lunch. Everything was flavoursome - very unexpected to have rare beef as most places over cook or mention it. Totally didn’t mind as that’s how I like it, but can imagine some people complaining. Portions are small for the price. Service from the 2 waiting staff was surly and we go wedged into a little corner when the majority or the ground floor was empty.

I stayed here with my mom on a 4-day trip to London in September. The experience was fantastic! The managers, Michael & Peter, were welcoming, accommodating, and just incredibly nice - we ended up chatting with them most days as we were coming and going. The ambiance was warm and natural, and with a bustling pub downstairs and a cool rooftop upstairs, it was a lot of fun! Would absolutely recommend to anyone traveling to London - great neighborhood, close to the tube and a great value. I can't forgot to mention that the breakfast was amazing - I genuinely miss those scrambled eggs 🤣 I won't hesitate to stay here next time I come to visit. As other reviews may say, there are a few flights of stairs to climb to get to the bedrooms, so bear that in mind when packing but the managers hauled our bags up the stairs and kept their smiles on the whole time - much less would have been said if my mom & I had to do it. Thanks again, Michael & Peter!

Had roast pork lunch today 29th October at 12.30pm booking. Firstly, the plates are too small. It was okay nothing exceptional but the roast potatoes were from the previous day. Hard as a rock. For that reason we refused to have dessert. I cook every day, those roast potatoes were not fresh. Disappointed. Feel cheated for the price we paid.

The food was tasty but the portion was small. The restaurant is pretty but was so hot that it felt quite stuffy. The service was very bad - the guy who was serving us was constantly on his phone or tablet near the bar that many times we sent signals (when we wanted to order, ask for more tap water, the bill …) he didn’t see us so a different waiter came to help us. Not returning again.

This pub introduced me into a world in which pub food is taken to a next level. While keeping the pubbish atmosphere, the quality and presentation of the food was amazing. Had a great time here. Large variety of beers as well.

This bar is so nice! Came here last week with a group of friends and this great ginger guy served me. He was excellent with his recommendations and made us feel us so welcome. The whole place and atmosphere was so good. Loved the bar service i received throughout the night. The decor and whole vibe was on point. Cant wait to come back for my birthday drink up!

I came here for the Christmas lunch and the food was very good. The pulled beef and the sticky toffee pudding were particularly delicious. Very impressed with the quality of the food and drinks. The venue is nicely decorated, albeit a bit hipster-ish - wood and exposed bricks. The staff lack personality and social skills which is the only minus. Not a single word was exchanged other than: ‘Are you finished? Can I take this?’

That's it. I'm done. I'm never eating "English" food anywhere else again. Bravo. Everywhere else just won't meet the level you served up today. Thank you for restoring my faith in Pub chefs. Superb flavour and freshness. Outstanding. Thank you 👏👏👏

Great place- lovely decor, atmosphere and range of draught beer. Writing for a big massive shout out and thank you to Sean! Friendly, great knowledge of the range of ales, and his watchful eye over my belongings saved my life - best kind of human- thank you!!! Making it a safe place to be, also. Will definitely come back.

Absolutely lovely experience, delicious tender beef and chicken, nice drinks, friendly staff and great atmosphere to spend a rainy Sunday. My recommendation to elevate the Sunday roast plate is: it would be great if you serve one medium size carrot and one medium size parsnip instead of one large carrot and a bit more chopped cabbage for each serving. Many thanks. Kind regards. T.

Avoid. We have stayed at the Buxton 3 times this year which is so lovely - but the Culpepper was awful. Rooms need redecorating . Decor is tired, walls look like there’s been a leak, Holes in the wall, broken window frames. I understand the look they were going for many years ago but it needs seriously updating . The room was noisy with building work at 8am underneath us. Didn’t even stay for our breakfast as we just wanted to get away from the place. Stairwell was messy on the way in and out. When leaving in the morning it felt like you weren’t meant to be there. Very Unprofessional management when I let them know about the stay. Should be embarrassed of charging £175. Hoping that the owner sees this, and thinks about putting a little more effort into the experience for people. I did try emailing as I don’t like to leave a review - but was ignored so don’t waste your money staying here .

Lovely pub until the barman told me I’m not allowed to but two unopposed bottles of beer for a homeless man in winter, because he was talking to people outside. I will never go back because the thinks people having a conversation with a lovely man is abhorrent
