Staff unprofessional, changing faculties always dirty with chewing gum, used paper & scum all over the floor. tiles coming off the floors within the shower areas. Many of the showers cannot be used as the doors are hanging off. Strange pool rule to not shave on pool side or within the pool. I now see why, with members shaving within the swimming pool like a personal bath tub, yuck! Also members like to use their phones while within the pool & on pool side. Pool side is dangerous, with chairs blocking a fire exit, safety equipment does not exist & what they do have is rotten ( though bags etc..) and cannot be used.

Gym has gone downhill quickly. Used to be decent with good facilities and never overcrowded. Now it’s regularly overcrowded, filled with drug dealers (I have overheard some of them making and doing deals). Really ruining what used to be a place worth the money. Would highly not recommend.

Came in for a day pass with my friend as I am a member already. We wanted to use the spa only as it was Friday. When buying a day pass, Mia Burgess asked if we was going for a swim? We said no. She then said okay because their is only 45 minutes left, this is at 8pm! Her attitude was as if she did not want us to use the gym as she wanted to go home early because it was Friday. Not all staff is like this however Mia in particular has the worst customer service. I have cancelled my membership solely based on her attitude. We had no greeting, no eye contact when serving us, opposite of polite!

I love this gym, it's by far the best I've been a member of, comparing it to David Lloyd and Anytime Fitness. The pool is fabulous, absolutely love the huge window, it really is lovely. It's also never overcrowded which is a big problem at David Lloyd. Staff are lovely, Dominic is always super friendly and other staff always say hello and goodbye on entry and are helpful too. I can see many reviews about cleanliness of the club but it looks good to me. The pool is very clean, of course there could be extra cleaning in the ladies' changing room, but it's mostly hair being left behind by members. I regularly see cleaning staff cleaning both the pool and the changing facilities as much as they can. Members are friendly too, there is a nice atmosphere in the club.

I've just returned here after around a year. I've been a regular member since before the pandemic started. They were using old equipment then and they still are now and I think for the price point its ridiculous. UPDATE THE MACHINES PLEASE. I'm sure lots of members would agree with me as there are many gyms which are cheaper and use newer and better equipment. I understand most pay for the name like other brands but I'd expect better from Bannatynes. Other than that the pool is decent and staff nice as always.

substandard service for what it promises. good the gym has good facilities but disappointing hygiene, which is a big deal considering it is a ‘health club’. Also, misleading closing time,. the gym equipment is good and the wait for these isn’t an issue. My two main concerns are the lack of cleanliness which has been mentioned in prior posts on here. The women’s toilets regularly smell unclean and the showers are coated in fungus. much like some other members have mentioned, i always end up having to go home and shower post gym. not good enough considering how much is charged. also, the advertised closing time is 10pm, however they seem to shut down their services ar 9.30? I walked out at 9.30 and tried to purchase a protein shake from the refrigerator only to be told that they’ve closed everything now and that ‘actually the gym closing time is 9.30 and staff home time is 10pm’. not sure why the staff home time is being advertised to members as closing time? disappointing. won’t be renewing my membership and definitely won’t be recommending to friends.

I just joined, the Grove Park club is rough...not to the standard of a private health club/gym. This is worse than your local council leisure centre. Gym looks well equipped and ive heard the classes are OK. But the male changing room/showers are rough...mouldy, tiles missing, paint peeling, mastic coming off. Same as pool and steam room. I've not been to a club before and felt the need to wear flip flops. The staff seem nice and memberships guy was professional in helping me sign up. Just the maintenance of the place! I'll be trying the Orpington branch rather than this one. The whole place needs a jet wash, shame

Horrible, run down gym. The air con was broken the whole year we were there. Classes get so hot that people don't always stay the full time. It's really run down, something is always going wrong, from the pool, showers to toilets. The gym floor is always busy, with limited equipment. Don't even bother going at usual 'peak' gym times. You will be packed in with nothing free to use. Only saving grace is the class instructors are amazing. Get there early for anything equipment based, like body pump because there's not enough weights for how many attend the class. Same for the spin, just hope you get a working bike. Really not worth the money.

A badly run and managed gym that I am glad to be leaving, due to poor management, poor hygeine and on-going covid-19 control issues. The staff are generally rude and dismissive of members, and often ignore social distancing or the wearing of masks, when talking to customers. Given the recent poor performance and standard of cleanliness of the gym - that required board level intervention - I think this gym maybe could be (and maybe should be) be the first to be closed, in a series of phased closures across the business. It's a shame, because it could be a nice gym.

Zero stars. Unclean facilities and poor service. Cannot believe the standard of this gym based on how ££££ it is-what are we paying for? The staff are generally rude and unhelpful and this just taints my experience each time. I feel as if it’s running on the fame of the name yet the staff are the equivalent of work experience teens who have no interest in the gym and it’s members. Cancelling my membership and joining a gym that actually provides what it offers.

Cleanliness is a massive issue. The changing rooms regularly smell of sewerage. The showers are disgusting- layers of mold and black grime. Especially on the soap dispensers. I pay approx £ 50 a month for membership and I go home to shower because God only knows what vile germs are lurking in there. This has been an issue since joining. I had emailed about it and haven't gotten a reply. Looking at reviews, many people have the same experience and nothing seems to have been done. I do not recommend the gym to anyone in this district hypocritical service together with the manager, stinks, dirty, fungus on the ceiling

Bannatyne's Health Club at Grove Park is not fit for purpose. With inadequate changing facilities. For the first few months of my membership the changing rooms where broke, ridiculously hot due to the air con being broke. As well as being broke the changing room smell disgusting and are outdated. Bannatyne's continue to advertising their facilities online as outstanding. This is misleading to members and quite disgraceful. Bannatyne's offers no compensation for the fact the changing room where not fit for purpose for a length time. Instead hit you with a price increase. I would not recommend Bannatyne's at Grove Park.

I was so excited when I first signed up; the classes are really good and the equipment there seems well maintained, but the excitement came from the ability to use the sauna and steam room. For the past 3 months, I have paid for a membership that I am not using because of the conditions of the changing rooms. The smell of damp on some days is completely unacceptable. When you pay so much to use a gym, I dont expect to see buckets that are there to catch water leaking from the ceiling and big industrial fans to dry the changing rooms; the condensation on the walls and windows just makes me think of disease and sickness, when combined with sweat and damp. Its such a shame since everything else there is decent. They need to shut it down and really do the necessary works on it. This particular gym in Grove park is the closest and most convenient for me to get to, which added to the initial excitment.

Solomon is the best staff in the gym. As an early morning gym goer, he is the only one always greets everyone energetically. I thought this is the standard of the gym, however I have also had bad experience with other staffs like other reviews. Solomon's paying attention to detail and going beyond for caring about the members has led me to write the good review. One star less because not every staff I come across is like him (I hope I spell the name right - apologise if I don't) In addition to customer service, as I believe everyone come to the gym mainly for workout so I will comment on other areas: Regarding the kits at gym, it is sufficient for me as I go in the morning and I use them mainly for glute and legs. However they could have arrange the space better so they can have at least two popular kits. Regarding hygiene, it is a bit old and not the best as other mentioned. But it is sufficient for me as I just have a quick shower before going to work. Regarding the class, they actually have good instructors who will show you the correct form compare to instructors from other gyms I have experienced. Regarding the pool, sauna and steam room. I think the pool is good if you want to swim. Sauna and steam room can get a bit busy around evening time. I write a lot as I wished I could find a review like this to help me make decision. Hope this is helpful.

Horrible customer service I have cancelled my membership due a financial situation change All was done via email and a cancellation confirmation has been made After few weeks I started getting emails and phone calls from a dept collector claiming that I have an unpaid balance for 740£ 😂 This is completely unacceptable Luckily I had the email that confirmed the cancellation. Look after your customers as they’re are the ones who’s keeping the business running. Now I understand why this club have so many bad reviews.

This place is a joke. A breeding ground for corona tbh, considering their lack of sanitation and complete lack of common sense amongst staff. Scrolling below I can see that I’m not the only one disappointed with this gym.

Where to start? Regret ever signing up. Unsanitary, unpleasant and terribly extortionate. I’m pretty confident that all positive reviews are written by staff because my experience has been consistently in line with the details of the negative reviews here. Save your money and energy- do not join.

It desperately needs a refurb. We've used other Bannatynes across the country as we've travelled and they were far nicer. Some repairs have been made recently but there's still wires hanging out over the jacuzzi, been like that for at least 2 weeks. Everything is grubby and dirty. I see a member of staff cleaning a lot and working hard but it's all so old and dated there's only so much she can do. Pool and jacuzzi too cold. Bits of broken tile at the bottom of the pool. Staff are always lovely but we're looking at other gyms/pools to change to.

2 years later. Love the place/great classes/good vibe/friendly team fantastic equipment but please please get the ladies showers sorted. Its smelly and feels dirty - get rid of the holders falling apart ? I go the the gym and run out without showering as I can't bear the shower rooms. I would like to come back to do another review in a few months time if they have listened to me? 2 years ago: Have everything you need. Great selection of classes and best of all, they're open from 6am!! Could improve on cleaner showers though. :-(

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS GYM Do not waste your time or money using this gym. They charge premium prices for poor quality service. The changing rooms are beyond filthy and despite the fact that often it is overcrowded, they've not invested in expanding the gym. Avoid at all costs unless you like throwing money away.

Great classes particularly boot camp, kettlebells and body attack. The club itself has everything you need (decent size pool, good class rooms and also a good size gym floor) and represents good value for money. It is slightly rough around the edges with wear and tear evident in the changing rooms in particular and on the gym floor in places. Some of the equipment is very good however including the spin bikes, weights, kettlebells. Overall very impressive for the amount you pay.

Most disappointed with Bannatyne’s and their approach to customers. I joined the gym back in 2015 and my membership has been increased after 2 years with no notice or information. I approached the gym and the membership was reduced back to original fee. Since then I continued using their facilities working with their personal trainer who was fantastic and took me on her personal membership of £36 per month. Unfortunately the trainer had now left Bannatyne’s and I have been forced again into (in my opinion held hostage) with a whooping £54 membership increase. I was told I am not in a position to negotiate as the personal trainer was never employed by them (yet they were happy to issue her concession rates) - makes absolutely no sense. Shocking, proves a point that people are often held hostage by terms and conditions. I have now dropped the case and decided to focus on positive things on my life rather than on arguing my case but after my membership ceases I will certainly never contemplate having anything to do with Bannatyne’s and their facilities across the UK

I have been a member for quite a while and from experience so far the staff have been amazing. Classes are good, not too busy and easy to book. Staff are all approachable, friendly and eager to help. It isn’t ever that busy which is great. Cleanliness is a big issue though. The showers are pretty disgusting. They smell bad, have loose, missing or broken fittings, mould on the soap dispensers and the walls to the showers look slimy and like they’ve never been cleaned. It really makes me consider cancelling my membership as I can’t get home easily from here to shower and these are becoming beyond useable.

My experience with this club isn't bad. Reception is nice, welcome and accommodating. However club and its facilities require a refurbishment. Changing rooms is clean, but have a bad smell from around, due some dump, swimming pool is small, and very average. They charge nearly half price, comparing to David Lloyd, but you pay for what you get. Keep your nice stuff and do refurbishment, i would pay more, if I could access a better condition facilities

It's funny because I was reluctant at 1st to join up but took the minimum 3 month membership and have been loving it so much. I took the premium membership which gives me access at any time which means I have never have to wait to go on a machine. I haven't use this swimming pool yet but I aim too.

Not enough equipment, in a poor state of repair, don’t bother going at peak time because you’ll not get anything to use unless you want a treadmill or a class. In desperate need of a refurbishment or, taken over by someone else. There are limited other options in the area therefore, they hike the price up for because they’re a “premium” brand, which clearly are not offering a premium service in this club. Get it sorted because it’s daylight robbery at the moment. Hold your members to account, ask them to follow the rules and get your staff to give a damn and challenge members not following the rules. It really needs gutting and starting again. Do your homework before you sign up to this place.

Please don't become a member of this gym. It may look great from the outside but that's what the Christians said about the Colosseum. It was great 10 years ago but standards have slipped, like you will when you enter the changing rooms which are always slick with filth. Equipment is always breaking. Bannatynes are supposed to be a premium brand. How he can put his name on this monstrosity of an establishment is beyond me. The issues in this place have been documented for such a long time and they don't seem to care about rectifying the issues and still charge top dollar for memberships. My partner and I have just moved to puregym as we couldn't justify paying high prices for such a bad service. We just hope that another provider takes over the place and starts from scratch.

Do not join, I felt ill after every visit to the pool. I have tried to cancel my membership now due to ill health, gave them my medical records that had been stamped by my GP but to them that is not evidence that I can’t attend, what part of knee and multiple joint issues do they not get. They now want me to pay £40 for a letter from the Dr to confirm what my records say. I have emailed them to see if they will come up with some other excuse if I pay £40 for the letter as to why I can’t leave. Worst , uncompassionate company I have ever had dealings with. This is meant to be a health club , well they don’t look after your health. Also tennis court are not able to be used so dirty , full of moss and over hanging tree, why not pull it up and give a grass area as extension to the park be much better use for the area and community

A VERY badly run and managed gym. The manager is arrogant, incompetent & ignores accusations of members being bullied by staff, and has no interest on-going issues with hygiene and cleanliness within the gym. The gym industry is absolutely on its knees and redundancies and closures WILL be happening across the country. I therefore urge head office to grow some balls and change the management team at this shambles of a gym, before it is forced to close due to their incompetent and lazy staff.

Ronnie Corbit and slim shady at reception (on Sunday the 6th November) accused me of scanning my wristband twice but it was an error on the machine not releasing the gate. In any case what was more disturbing is the amount of rotting mould on the ceilings in the family changing rooms, it’s at such a critical level it is corroding the metal which is a danger to children. Health and Safety Executive has been informed this morning. Please avoid that area as corrosion at that extent can cause a variety of health issues including digestive tract infections and blindness. Note to manager : I strongly suggest you do not ignore this review as the local Lewisham authority and Vicky the MP has been informed of the dangers highlighted.

Due to COVID-19 now and the additional process of cleaning etc. Staff clean studios, mats and equipment after every class and have strict rules in place in terms of class limits, face coverings, temperature checks, hand sanitiser, antibacterial wipes, sprays at every station and in every room and space. So far staff and members abide by the rules.. feel safe working out. 👍

Lots of rude staff including Bea who clearly loves her job so much she can't wait to get you our the Gym long before close. Zero customer service, not to mention the state of the place, mould in changing rooms, gym floor falling apart for over a year now... its become laughable

Gym needs a facelift with a lick of paint to make it brighten up its dark in there. As well as the steam room with alot of worn out tiles. The price doesn't reflect the image other than it has a steam sauna swimming pool and a jacuzzi

It's got everything we need as a family of gym goers, with various requirements, from weight training to water aerobics, for myself, pregnant wife, and 3 year old daughter. Staff are friendly and helpful, and equipment is moderately up to date. I would say that the change rooms, and pool area could do with a refresh. They serve the purpose, but are grubby, and repairs of patches over patches, are showing it's age. Having said this, the cost is pretty reasonable, and I don't think you'd find better at the cost. I'm happy to put up with it as it is, provided fees don't rise

Staff are working hard all the time, and so friendly. I agree with the place could use a face lift, only thing keeping alot of people there is the creativity of the staff and the social environment. alot of people have made good gym connections. If this gym was more up to date would be the icing on the cake

Not been member for long and already regret joining up! Got to be the worst gym I ever been to!! It’s dirty, showers smell, repairs are never done with signs up everywhere’ WE ARE ON IT’ It’s a joke. 3 showers heads in spa area are hanging off! Jacuzzi- only 1 jet in powerful, others are weak and 1 keeps turning off intermittently. Sauna/ steam- Some people regularly exfoliate whole body with gloves, fannels using scrub products! Eww! Turns my stomach thinking about it and they never clean the area/ bench after. One even wiped the bench with glove she used on herself ewww!! Spa area not inspected often enough even when reported! Also some people rub lemon on their skin, eat fruit & nuts etc in the sauna and steam room!! Happening on a daily basis. Same ppl talk at the top of their voice making it very uncomfortable for most who just want to relax and have some peace and quite!! Got no chance Anyone caught doing the above should have their membership cancelled!! Same applies in gym area, loud chatter and on phone constantly!! I hate this gym! Need new buyer, who’ll not tolerate the above! If you Can’t follow the rules, then you’re out!!

I have been attending Bannatyne Grove Park for 6 months and the standard of the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi are extremely poor. I spoke to management a few weeks ago about men exfoliating in the sauna and then taking their dirty flannels in the jacuzzi. They told me to alert them as soon as I see it again by pressing the alarm button. On Saturday 18th November, I decided to use the steam room and confronted a man who was shaving in there. I then saw two men exfoliating themselves using flannels in the sauna. I alerted management by pressing the panic button and out came the emergency staff with a defibrillator! Not a very clever plan of management to address the issue. I spoke to one of the members and she did say she stopped going to Bannatyne at Grove Park for years because it was so filthy, and men have said they dare use the showers in their changing rooms because they are so grim. Anyhow, this Saturday, though I was there for the pilate class I could not bear the thought of being in someone else’s grime in the sauna, steam room or jacuzzi so I headed off to Bannatyne in Orpington where people are much more considerate and standards are much higher

I have been attending this gym since beginning of 2021. When I initially attended, I was disappointed with the general runnings of the gym, and how they operated. I made several complaints regarding equipment and the sanitation of the spa area, however, nothing was resolved. They have recently hired a new general manager named Junior, who in my opinion has completely transformed the gym. The spa are is now cleaned thoroughly daily, and we now have use of more spin bikes than ever before! I would highly recommend this gym as it has a fantastic community and all the staff and management care about you and your well-being :-)

This gym is not the best. For what they charge the areas are not very sanitary at all. I cancelled my direct debit as I could not attend due to tendonitis in my foot and had not attended the gym since June. However despite the fact that I had not attended, Beth (manager) proceeded to call me up and threaten me with debt collectors which has caused me quite a lot of stress and anxiety. Considering I have completed a full 12 months and not been able to attend for 4 of those you would think that they would be more accommodating as I have not even used their service. 0 stars, the star given is so I could post!
