Unfortunately, the mattresses spotty and very uncomfortable. You have to keep in mind that you are on a main road where even ambulances drive at night with noise! But it was enough to pause.

TL;DR: Don't bother. Horrendous accommodation. Very overpriced for the quality and cleanliness. First impressions: We arrived at the side door and were greated by heckles from the inebriated chaps who were gathered on a nearby bench. We rang the doorbell and were granted entry to discover a hallway full of dirt and clutter. Rick was a pleasant host and check in was straight forward. We willingly paid our £10 cash deposit for the room key and we were shown to our room. Rick pointed out the facilities and he was very helpful and friendly. It was downhill from here. Foisty Funky Five: Our expectations were low due to the price we paid. However, I cannot emphasise enough how disgusting this place is. The bedroom walls, door, window, fixtures and fittings were all rank with dirt, stains and marks. We found short and curly hairs in the bedding. The futon was full of suspect stains. The curtain was a foot too short for the window and was also disgusting with stains. The window sill was grotty and in disrepair. There was a band conducting a warm-up for their gig that evening in the bar below. The vibrations of this could be felt through the floor and this clashed with the din from a speaker which had been placed outside the hostel door. Bathroom Bonanza: There were two bathrooms located just a short walk down the corridor. Again the walls are appallingly dirty and marked. Both bathrooms were in a poor state of repair. The furthest away from our room was the better quality of the two. However, it had no holder for the shower, the cistern lid was cracked in half and there was a sodden and stinky shower mat crumpled up behind the door. The other bathroom had holes in the toilet seat, a shower curtain full of mould, the extractor fan half hanging off the ceiling held on with masking tape and full of mould, and the shower head holder attached with tape. It also had a stinky soaked shower mat. It is hard to say which room smelt worse, they were pretty much on a par for their assault on our senses. One Night Stand: We quickly dropped our bags and made a swift dash for closest boozer. We decided we'd give the place a chance. But knew we'd need to be seriously smashed to survive the night. Challenge accepted. We returned around midnight, closed the window and were thankfully drunk enough to manage to get our heads down. Unfortunately, the pub directly beneath our room is open until 4am, and once our skinfuls had worn off, regardless of the closed window, we were awoken by the noise and vibration. The room had also become uncomfortably hot and a few hours of ruinously broken sleep ensued. We went for breakfast up the street and decided that another night in this place could break us. We booked another place a couple of miles away and checked out. We advised the chap at reception that we were booked for another night but were leaving and asked for our key deposit back, he returned it without issue. It is worth noting though that he seemed entirely unsurprised we were going and made no attempt to ascertain the reasona for us doing so. But I suppose it would be fairly obvious to him. Realistic: As previously mentioned I think our expectations were realistic about the quality of what we would experience at this hostel. However, it felt unsafe, unsecure, and unsanitary. There's clearly little to no cleaning that goes on and the upkeep of the establishment is extremely poor. We felt the need to bar the door with a chest of drawers at night (which revealed dust and grime behind where it was originally placed) as there was no additional internal security measure to secure the door. We felt the need to wear shoes when walking round the room due to putrid state of the establishment. I would imagine you can get better quality for less elsewhere. My advice would be to do so.

Excellent venue. Saw Discharge here last night. I ruined a pair of perfectly good desert boots and my ears are still ringing but a great gig at a top-notch venue.

Great venue for live music! Especially if you're into your metal, punk, and rock stuff! I have been here a few times now and there's always a nice atmosphere and a decent crowd! So, if you're in the area and stuck on what to do on a night out and you enjoy the above music genres, then give this place a go! You won't be disappointed! ;D

Lovely atmosphere fantastic ally decorated...if you want a standard pub forget about it this is a lovely little Eden making you feel at home. Perfect for catching up with friends a date or even a cold beer on the beer garden. It's very disabled friendly and my dog was given treats by the wonderful server Simon. Would highly recommnend. I would try to reserve a table in advance to make sure but when I went in the afternoon it was quite easy to sit and get a table...talking of tables...their is also a table football game in the back! I did not try the pizzas but they looked amazing

Lovely space, great lighting and sound system for gigs. Free water was given out during the gig which was very helpful as it was very hot where we were stood. nice area downstairs to rest during gig and to purchase merch after performance. Nice area outside where we queued.

We were made to feel very welcome at the New Cross Inn. The crowd was great, the green room was well stocked, and the sound was first class!

The bands were a Psychobilly Freakout weekender. The sound for all bands was great. Drinks are pricey. Doorstaff let in people without tickets and who hadn't paid, which was VERY annoying! The gents toilets are appallingly. The smell from the gents toilets is overwhelming. And this makes the front part of the down stairs bar very unappealing. The smell has been like this for the last three years I've been visiting. Disgusting. Get it sorted.

Perfect punk palace if that’s your thing. The place is dirty as hell, the staff makes you fell like you’re in a « Karen’s diner », the smell of piss from downstairs is unreal. Great bands and good sound. Location make is easy to reach, easy to get away from.

Downstairs smells of wee. Basically felt like a throwback to student days. Website threatened pizza but didn’t trust the slightly hidden chalkboard offering. A venue basically and it did that well enough.

Been coming here semi-regularly for several years now, and the gigs and fests here never disappoint. Reasonable drinks prices for London, they serve pizza, and the staff and vibes are always really friendly. Paul and the rest of the New Cross Live team in particular work tirelessly to ensure a great experience for bands and audience alike! Always a good time - best punk music venue in London!

Great gig venue. The kind of bar to party on up close and personal to live music. Big bar, lots of ales and lagers. The only downside is the pillar right in the stage view.

Amazing, small venue in the heart of New Cross. Hosts some small and some very well known artists! Amazing drinks deals, awesome staff. Really cool bar with comfy booths downstairs. I love this venue because it really takes gigs back to basics, but without sacrificing the quality. Sound is always great, you can see the band no matter where you stand, and the intimacy of it makes it all the more cooler, being able to quite literally brush shoulders with the acts when they make their way to the stage. Definitely check out a gig here.

I had a great stay. I loved the Zone 2 location. The manager Reon, Tanya were very helpul. The hostel was clean. The manager Reon told me they are working on further renovations to improve the place. The breakfast spread was decent for a hostel. I would recommend this place, as it is the people and the attitude that make it.

If you want fancy this is not the place for you. But for a friendly, down to earth venue with good live music this is the perfect place. Staff were lovely and there was a warm environment it was easy to feel comfortable in. The set up is great for being able to enjoy the pub side and view the music at the same time. Wide variety of drinks including tasty and reasonably priced cocktails. I could easily see this being somewhere to visit regularly with friends.

Great venue, have all sorts of music but I generally go to the punk/metal shows. Always fun, the sound quality is good and the location is good too. You can get a range of food locally and there a few different transport options to get back to were you are staying. Booze is a little on the pricey side but it is London.

  • 4/5 arjunmedhi 4 years ago on Google
If you want a good dive bar with live music, this is it. Great for local bands - I went to a local funk metal night and it was awesome. Don’t expect craft beer. The booze isn’t great but it’s better than the booze you get at Brixton Academy!

Amazing hostel and great stuff . Very clean. Big sizes rooms . Common area where you meet the other travels is fabulous. Tea coffe free all day, the kitchen has what you need for cooking. Staff and mangers are super friendly and they will do their best to help you or show you around and make your stay best and comfortable ever. Location is amazing of course because the hostel in based in the middle two main station so with 3 mint walk from the station you find the hostel. good shops and great live music pubs. And of course the food and the restaurants in this area great for a value and not expensive compared to london prices. Simply best hostel in south london

The price was super low, but we also didn't get more than what we paid for. Breakfast was included, but it's a really basic one, there was no orange juice (or juice of any kind) with it. The windows didn't close completely, which made the noise of the street really annoying during the night. The rooms where clean, though, and nearby are a lot of cheap and good take-away restaurants and a few pubs. By bus it takes about 20 min to London Bridge. And there are two train stations you can use. All in all, it was acceptable for the price

The hostel was good. There is no elevator so be weary if you've got a lot or large luggage. Breakfast is free and consists of boiled eggs, bread with various spreads, cereal, milk, and coffee. I stayed in a four person shared room on the top level so it was a bit of a hassle bringing my two large suitcases to the top. But once there, the room was clean and comfortable. The bunks could be updated as they are these older metal ones that creak a fair bit. The mattresses were also a bit then. But the sheets were clean, and they provide free towels. The bathrooms were also very clean, and I believe they clean them twice a day. They're all different from one another and beware that the one with a tub's shower won't work consecutively. As in don't turn it off and expect it to turn back on right away. The service was friendly. And they provided the use of a luggage scale for free. Location wise they are also very close to bus stations and the train station. Overall it was a good hostel to stay in.
