Leading from the southwest corner of Trafalgar Square into the Mall is Admiralty Arch, commissioned by King Edward VII in memory of his mother Queen Victoria. It was designed by Sir Aston Webb (who also worked on Buckingham Palace and the Victoria and Albert Museum) and was completed in 1911. The Admiralty Arch, which takes its name from the nearby Royal Navy Headquarters. It was originally used as the offices and residences for the Sea Lords, leaders of the Royal Navy. Today it is home to several British government offices. The traffic does not pass through the massive central arch - that is only opened for state occasions.

Sadly I got only little time to see this great place. It is trully a sight to see a majestic gate of the main road going to Buckingham palace. Beside this place, you can go to other attractive places around here: Big Ben, Buckingham palace, Westminster building, several monuments, etc. Recommended place to see for tourist in London.

Lots of history here so it was such a wonderful feeling to pass under this arch many times last year! It connects Trafalgar Square to The Mall and Buckingham Palace. Traffic on the roads can get busy around this area, but being on foot is always no issue. Nice for photo taking. Good memories!

Visited just prior to the State Funeral. The atmosphere was friendly, respectful and thoughtful. Many people there to soak in the atmosphere and leave floral tributes. We know how to deliver the big occasions however there was a small glitch with the flow of people, being told to cross the road to head to the Palace, then being told it was one way, and the road closed so you couldn't cross back again. Frustrating but these things happen and everyone dealt with it in good humour. Thanks to everyone on duty to make things easier for the general public, can't have been easy!

It's a must place to visit for the tourists or just anyone who would like to enjoy the city walks in London. Personally, just visited for Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations and it was a perfect spot to enjoy to watch a Fly Pass on the day. Be aware it is usually busy on special occasions and road is now closed off for public vehicles. It is pedestrians and cyclists route only now.

A beautiful structure that combines the features of a triumphal arch and office buildings. Well, it used to be office buildings until it was sold and will be converted into a Waldorf hotel. At the moment, much of the building is undergoing refurbishment while the hotel conversion takes place. Will be lovely again when it's complete. Pity I can't afford to stay, the sights of The Mall and Trafalgar Square would be amazing.

Not exactly a must-see landmark, but it offers a very cool atmosphere driving/walking through either eastwards to the Mall or westwards to Trafalgar Square. It nicely matches the nearby architecture and so keeps the area stylish and aesthetic. Take a close peek at some of the sculptures and for one of the seven London Noses

A historical landmark in London that serves as a ceremonial entrance from Trafalgar Square to The Mall and heading directly to the Buckingham Palace. It plays an important role during processions of different occasions. The central archway are used by the royals only.

The arch was designed by Aston Webb, who also designed the Victoria Memorial and the new façade of Buckingham Palace at the other end of the Mall. Admiralty Arch was constructed by John Mowlem & Co and completed in 1912. It adjoins the Old Admiralty Building, hence the name.

Really beautiful to see up close but difficult to photograph from any angle as there are roads that pass through it, and it is surrounded by other buildings. Don't miss it if you're at Trafalgar square, and you can put it on your walking tour route if you're coming from Big Ben or Buckingham palace.

Admiralty Arch is one of London's most famous landmarks. The Arch was built to house naval offices and residences. Admiralty Arch was designed in 1910 by Sir Aston Webb (who also worked on Buckingham Palace and the Victoria and Albert Museum) to provide an elegant ceremonial passage from the hectic Trafalgar Square towards Buckingham Palace.

Just beautiful. Sold to be 4 apartments and a Waldorf Astoria hotel, so there seems to be a bit of zig zag when walking around it. It will certainly be a special place to stay considering your just down the mall from Buckingham Palace and just out the door is Trafalgar Square.

From Trafalgar Square you can see a hatful of iconic sights and this is one of them. Plenty of places nearby to take the weight off your feet and settle down to watch the world go by. And, given all the accents I heard, it really is the world! A very atmospheric example of English architecture.

This serves as the gateway from Trafalgar square to the Mall that leads to Buckingham Palace. It was erected by Edward VII in a tribute to his mother, Queen Victoria, and was completed in 1912. It incorporated the old Admiralty building, hence the name. The centre arch is reserved for royalty in formal processions. It was designed by Aston Webb, who also designed the facade of Buckingham Palace. It has been sold by the government and is rumored that it is being converted into a Waldorf Astoria hotel.

It's been for over a year already a vast building site with much noise and much activity. It's turning into a Waldorf Astoria hotel in due course, with £12,000,000 penthouse flats atop it. It's constantly covered with the only change being what size is covered, how largeand the impediment construction causes to the greatly reduced road traffic and when. Cycling? Forget it!

(Translated by Google) This building, one of England's landmarks, caught my attention. In Turkish, we can call it Admirality Jewelry or Belt. I reached Trafalgar Square by walking from the famous The Mall street from Buckingham Palace where the parades were held and passing under this building. Aston Webb is the architect of this building, which was built by King Edward 7 in memory of his mother, Queen Victoria. The completion date of the construction is 1912. The Admiralty Jewelry, which is one of the protected historical buildings of the kingdom, was used by the Naval Command in the past and was also the mansion of the chief admiral. And this building was leased to the Waldorf Astoria hotel chain in 2012 for £ 60 million for 125 years. One of the noses known as the London Capes, which was installed by artist Rick Buckley in 1997, is located here on the inside wall of the Takin.
