The food was ok. Great presentation and the taste was good. The sticky wings were very tasty. HOWEVER, the servers came up to every table mid meal to coerce guests into leaving a positive review. Giving customers a card that encourages guests to review the restaurant and get a pudding in exchange is one thing, but constantly questioning the table on if they have left a review and questioning why they haven’t left a review is a different situation. The staff were friendly but the corporate pressure they probably have received to press guests into leaving a review is something I cannot look past. I could feel the discomfort from all the surrounding tables. This “review” situation left a bad taste in my mouth and makes me not want to come again. I believe that a lot of these reviews are inflated due to the pressure the customers receive in the restaurant to review. After the customers leave a review, the staff check. Therefore I believe to avoid awkwardness some customers may leave outstanding reviews that are not fully accurate

Came here for an impromptu lunch with friends. It wasn't very busy at all so getting a table for 3 was quick. Staff were friendly and service was relatively quick. Food also came out fairly quickly. The portions are quite big which reflects the prices as it's not that cheap. I ordered the prawn kari which was nice. Not sure how authentic the dishes are, so wouldn't necessarily recommend if you're looking for very authentic Asian food.

Nice, clean place. Great servers. Very friendly and fast. However, the food had no flavour whatsoever. ZERO taste. Therefore, no more visits to this branch. Also, they serve warm beer. Big let down. Pricey place for what they offer.

I visited banana tree two weeks ago. Starting out with the Vietnamese coffee; the condensed milk in the coffee was just the sweet comfort I needed on a rainy day in London. We received the mains in some 10-15 mins, pretty quick. The portion was super generous, I took away my pad Thai home in a box. It had a slight kick to it which I enjoyed, with the sprouts and crackers adding a good crunch. My friend enjoyed her black monk noodles and finished all of it.

Beautifully decorated restaurant, helpful staff (thank you Nathalia ☺️)and quick service. We ordered Pad Thai and Crispy fish - both dishes were excellent! They also do a 2 for 1 cocktail or mocktails.👌

I came with my mother to Banana Tree to celebrate an important date for us. The cleanliness of the outside of the restaurant was excellent, with well looked after windows, doors and signage, and no rubbish or debris to be seen. I was given a warm welcome and a member of staff standing at the door explained the concept of I believe her name was Sai. I would rate my meal as excellent value for money, due to the great portion sizes, high quality taste and low price. Based on this experience, I would highly recommend Banana Tree to people I know, due to how great value for money the delicious food was, alongside extremely friendly and efficient staff and management like Ahmed. Thank you, Luis

Came to this place on Sunday 29th October 2023 with my friend and his family who are regular customers here along with his brothers family from America. Loved the food, I would recommend the Banana Tree Spiced Noodles. The service from Kareem was absolutely outstanding. If you are in the Angel Islington area then I would highly recommend that you dine out at Banana Tree.

It’s ok. There are far far better choices out there for Asian food. Small portion and very saucy. Food is warm but not hot. Quite salty and sweet for me. The curry set cost me nearly £18 (with service charge) but I didn’t feel I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the plane white rice which may sound a bit ironic. What’s more ironic was I walked into a burger place for a “top up “ after here. 🙄WiFi is a faff. When you fill a form, you have to provide names, emails etc. I never understood the point of this and annoying. The service is all right. Staff is generally pleasant.

We had a great meal and it was a lovely evening out. The service was incredibly fast and all the staff were very friendly. The appetisers (veg gyozas, veg spring rolls, vegan peanut satay) were deliciously tasty and piping hot. The drinks we ordered (all mocktails) were a good size and not overly sweet - very refreshing. Our mains (Vegan Singapore laksa, blackened monks noodles, chilli kafir lime and cashew nuts with vegan bites, and tamarind aubergine with jasmine steamed rice) were so nice, great portions and such unique and different flavours. For dessert (banana profiteroles, chocolate fondant) it was nice to try something different and they were both equally delicious. Overall a brilliant experience, a great range of vegetarian and vegan food and great service - highly recommend!

Yummy assorted southeast asian dishes just south of Angel. A great place to get a taste of laksa, tamarind fish, beef rendang, and satay with peanut sauce. The happy hour currently features 2-for-1 cocktails or mocktails – love the lychee and lime.

We visited Banana Tree for my Mums birthday and had a table of 5. From the moment we walked in the staff were extremely hospitable and moved us as requested with no complaints. Once we ordered, we were extremely impressed with the food! I’m vegan and had plenty of delicious options and my quite fussy Grandma was very satisfied. We loved the food so much we ended up having two starters each!!! The cocktails and fresh juices were also amazing and all such good value for money. Our waitress was so helpful and stayed smiling no matter how many times we needed her. Will definitely be returning soon, Mum liked it so much she had a takeaway order delivered two days later! Thank you so much to all the staff at Banana Tree Islington :)

Served by the smiley and polite Doris. Our food came within good time and everything looked as yummy as it was delicious. I used to be a regular here when I was studying closer. The decor has had a revamp and the place is great for a catch up with friends, business outing or a date :)

This is the second time I had travelled from Turkey Street Enfield to Banana Tree Islington to have the delicious Thai Food .I was received with smiling face by Karim who very well remembered that I had visited with my children & grand children earlier to celebrate my wife’s birthday. After occupying a place for 2 of us a young smart girl Shreeya came to take our orders and the hot food was served very quickly . We eat Laksa and Pad Thai which was very tasty The restaurant was full being Saturday night ,the atmosphere was very beautiful and food very very tasty & the service by Shreeya was incomparable. We left the restaurant with a memorable dinner and will visit again & recommend every one to visit this restaurant if you want to try healthy , tasty Thai Food .

I was here with my work colleagues for Christmas lunch. Ahmed took care of all our needs and explained how the menu works. Food was great and service too, I would have given 5 stars but because of the seating I’ve given 4 stars. We were a group of 5 and 3 of us sat on the long bench which was quite uncomfortable, the benches could do with some cushions.

I’ve come to banana tree Islington a couple times, since it’s close to my university, but yesterday we truly had the most wonderful experience. Being hosted my Ahmed was such a pleasure, he was so welcoming and kind to us throughout our dining experience. Ahmed genuinely made our visit all the more enjoyable due to his exceptional hospitality. The food was phenomenal as well, packed with lots of flavour, leaving us very satisfied. All of the meat is halal, which is a huge bonus. I personally recommend the sweet and sour chicken. Definitely going to become a regular customer.

We had a great experience at Banana Tree Islington. The food was delicious, it tasted fresh and so well presented. My favourite was the Laksa soup for starter. There are so many vegan options and variety of vegan alternatives (vegan pieces, tofu and another one I don't remember). Prices are OK, I would expect a little less. Also 2 for 1 cocktails.

Food was really lovely. Ordered the tamarind aubergine dish and my friend ordered the tai green curry. Both were delicious. Service was great. We were served by Erik who swiftly showed us to our seats. He was very friendly and helpful especially as my friend has some allergens. Overall experience was great. Would highly recommend a visit.

The food was decent (lacked some flavour and spice) but the vibes were really nice (good for group dinners) and our waitress Jana was super lovely 🥰 You cant go wrong with 2 for 1 mock-tails either!

  • 4/5 Henna B. 10 months ago on Google
For starters, I had the fritters and chicken satay. The fritters or amazing crunchy on the outside soft on the inside full of flavour, my favourite dish I had that evening. The chicken satay evidenced being marinated for a good period of time. It came with a peanut sauce which complimented it very well. The beef rendang was full of flavour and went well with the jasmine rice. However, the laksa was not as exciting as I was expecting it to be, maybe because I was comparing it to another restaurant. I personally did not feel satisfied. The soup part had flavour of coconut and chilies but for the noodles they didn’t carry any other flavour with them, so were bland. I understand why they have two for one for mock tails as they are quite basic and nothing special.

Went to Banana Tree yesterday and had the most amazing green curry dish I've had in a long time. They really know how to season the food to the point of perfection. Incredibly tasty. Such an amazing experience.

This was a Last minute, walk in bookings on the way to Sadler's Wells Theatre in Islington. Never been before, food was so yummy and staff were very pleasant & helpful. Will definitely be bookings here again on my next Theatre visit. "Should really keep this one a secret" as it was that good.

Excellent food and well trained staff. Banana Tree serves one of the best desserts ever. After my terrible experience at the soho branch I'm glad to have come across this one where staff communicate and treat customers well. I can easily recommend this particular branch and I'll definitely visit once in a while to get more of the Balinese 'Pulut Hitam' Rice Pudding...if you haven't had this make sure you try it...this dessert on its own is worth a visit.

  • 5/5 Tony F. 2 years ago on Google
Food was delicious adequately portioned and reasonably priced. We arrive during happy hour, so got 2-for-1 cocktails. 2 starters, two mains and 4 cocktails plus a coffee for 70quid? Can't argue with that really! Lovely. Waitresses were helpful, polite and delivered prompt service. Definitely come again. Food was advertised as indochinese? Generally Thai, Malaysian and Vietnamese but wouldn't say Chinese I don't think. Nevertheless really tasty!

Banana Tree has remained my favourite restaurant for pan asian food. The staff are very professional and know everything about the food they're serving. The atmosphere in the restaurant is always lively. The dishes here are mouthwatering delicious. Every dish is full of different flavours with great amount of spices. Would also top it off by trying their desserts (chocolate Indo-Fondant). I would highly recommend this branch.

Nice Decor and I like the semi open kitchen but the food is tasty but my pad Thai noodles were a bit over cooked...seems it's pre cooked and added to the veg which was fresh. Also a bit overpriced for the portion size. You do get wooden cutlery and chopsticks too which was I nice touch although to save money they should ask which you require rather than give both.

  • 5/5 Zoe C. 2 years ago on Google
Great food, great service. The laksa soup noodles were so delicious. Get there in time for happy hour and make the most of their brilliant cocktails! I'll be heading back to try the pina colada. 😁

I was a bit dubious before because I have never been and it always at first glance seemed too expensive for me. Well I have been nicely surprised. They have a happy hour on drinks and food at the moment ( not sure how long for) so you can get 2 for the price of one. Obviously there are only certain things included in this offer but I found all things offered to be reasonable. I had the Thai sticky wings for my starter as did my mother who is a very fussy eater, and we were both left with a plate of bones. They were soooooo good. Highly recommended 👌 My vegetarian sister had the gyoza which she enjoyed throughly also. Also the portion size is on point. Usually in restaurants the starter will consist of for example 3 chicken wings ( if your getting chicken ) and some pointless garnish and are paying silly prices, well nor at Banana Tree. I had about 5 wings and I can eat alot so I was very impressed. For my main I had the classic sweet and sour chicken stir fry (they do have a vegetarian option also in the classic sweet and sour) and it was again a very decent size, aesthetically pleasing, yummy and super filing. My sister had the Thai green curry vegetarian option which she loved also. The flavours work so well together. For drinks we ordered the wild strawberry sparkler and the lychee and lime cooler. They are mocktails and super refreshing. I preferred the wild strawberry sparkler because it also has passion fruit in it making it the perfect level of sweetness for my palate. My sisters favourite is the lychee and lime. We ordered 2 of each they were so good. The only thing that was a bit disappointing is we ordered a mango sorbet from the children's menu for my son and it never came. And also his apple juice was one that you get from a cornershop for 55p, how do I know this you ask, it was left in the original packaging. I think even if they do get it bulk from somewhere at least put it in a cup, make it look pretty because you are charging £7.50 for that child's meal and that drink. Just a suggestion . Highly recommended for couples, friends and family's (as long as there are no fussy eaters because the food is very flavoursome) Definitely will be going again. Very good quality of food.

Perfect pan-asia casual restaurant at very reasonable prices. The famous noodles were a hefty portion with plentiful meat and veggies with a fantastic sauce. The chicken dumplings are a must get too especially with the sauce!

Delightful evening. Canteen style, flavoursome food. Wasn’t a fan of the kefir leaf prawn But the Thai green curry with chicken was 💕 Some foods are halal. Please check with them when u attend.

Great service and staff- brilliant server Viki who was very sweet and helpful even gave us some homemade chill paste to use with our dish and a lovely gesture for our sister who got engaged ! Food was good and the prawn starter was absolutely delicious ! I think for my fish main the tilapia could’ve been “fishier” as it lacked a fishyness to it but other than that all good !

A very pleasant surprise, the dishes are very varied and all the ones we tried were so tasty. The crispy chicken in sweet and sour sauce was perfectly cooked, so very crunchy on the outside but very tender on the inside. And the black rice pudding with coconut ice cream was so delicious, not too sweet, such a guilty pleasure! Not a typical Asian restaurant but so worth trying, very much recommended. Will definitely come back!

I had a lovely time at Banana tree, Angel. I went with friends and kids. They couldn’t swap out the fish in the red curry for chicken but eventually I had the chicken green curry. It was a soul warming experience. There were lots of choices for the kids too. Shreeya who served us was particularly nice. I would definitely recommend.
