Really tasty vegan Ethiopian! Portions were hearty and it’s BYOB.

Seems a little expensive for what it is because the food comes so fast that it can’t be fresh. Still, it has good flavour and is reason my filling. Place is cash only. Sitting by the window is nice as you get to watch the comedy of the high street.

Had this place on my list for a while! The value of meals are great, same platter for all to choose the Sampler or Traditional (see menu pics). Food: We chose Traditional Large Platter (2-3 ppl) for 2 of us. The food didn't taste very fresh (as with a few restaurants) and I would have loved more flavour (perhaps this is to cater for all, but I've been to other Ethiopian food places to compare). A nice variety on the platter though and served in a great way! I did enjoy the injera. Drinks: Drinks include canned soft drinks and Jungle Juice from a fridge stand, the latter was delicious! Can otherwise BYOB. Payment: No breakdown if menu and cash only! Other: Visited near 6pm on a Wednesday and there were plenty empty spaces. When we left near 7.30pm, there was a queue outside the restaurant! Seems popular for locals.

A great atmosphere is created at this cosy restaurant in Dalton. A cosmopolitan area of London. It got full quite quickly. A nice surprise too. VEGAN

Lovely little restaurant! It's like someone inviting me to their house to eat, the people who work here are so friendly and sweet. And the food was delicious.

Food was amazing! no question about it. and great value and big portion for what you pay. The only disappointment is the service/server! When we entered the place and sat we asked for menu and were told since only type dish served, we can order for to people (the sampler) so we didn't bother looking at the menu from the next table. we ordered 1x can of coke which should be around £1. when we asked to pay the server had told us £17 for two people (when it shouldn't have not been more than £12-13 for two people sampler dish plus 1x can of coke so £14 ish as is what I just found out is what my friends paid. It's not even about the £4 more I feel I had paid but I feel cheated by the server trying to pull one on us not giving receipt and telling us the amount to pay with words to whom I gave £20 with the change to keep. so words of advice. check the menu for the price if there's any price update and ask for a printed receipt. Edit: in response to the response by the owner: I appreciate the response and explanation. I understand now about the charge and have changed my rating. Like I said, I was having a conversation with friends about where I have been when one said they had an amazing food for £12 which is when I realised maybe I paid more. Maybe when someone asks for a menu, if one Isn't available as all priced the same like we were told, an offer of the two (a sampler for two for £12 or a traditional platter for £16) would help first time customers understand what's available and choose which we were not offered. The food is amazing and I will definitely comeback.

Wow, I was suprised the amount of flavour without over compensating. First time trying Ethiopian food and now not the last time. £6 is a good deal for a takeaway and now looking to take my partner here. The shiro is my favourite ( red/chickpea spicy lentils) all was great and clean.

Been a few times before, but today experienced the worst service, which was disappointing. Was made to wait outside in the cold for 15 mins, we were then seated in a forgotten part of the restaurant, having had no one else leave and with 4 tables free. Our order wasn't taken for another 10 mins. Our portions were small in comparison to other Ethiopian places in the area... For £20 they could definitely pile on the lentils 😂 No cutlery was brought to us but was to tables around us, and when we paid she didn't give us our change back!!

Great Ethiopian food! I always loved injera and this one doesn't disappoint. Very vinagry and tasty. I also like that you have ONE option (in small or large size) and the staff just brings it to you straight away. Service is quick and practical. And they are not hoovering over you. Not very spicy. Four different dishes: one more spicy and the other three very mild. But all very tasty. Would come again!

This place is an Ethiopian restaurant that is beloved by the locals. As we were nearby, we decided to take away their Sampler of 6 different dishes and Injera. The sampler of dishes including lentils, peas, and vegetables tasted ok but nothing special. We have never tried Injera but it did taste weird and too sour for our liking. The sampler and injera were only £5 which was very cheap, however, I wouldn't say the value is excellent as the food was average. It was quite a small restaurant although it seems cozy and the owner seems nice as well.

Nice little restaurant. BYOB, friendly staff and good value for money. Sharer came with 3 different curries and vegetables. Nice balance of flavours to each, all worked nicely with the (slightly vinegary) flat bread. Food was £7 (cheaper if you eat out). Staff were very good at making sure masks were on when surrounding/speaking to customers and there was plenty of hand sanitiser around (front desk and on each table)

I was going to give 1 star but I am giving 5 as I used to own a cafe and I know how hard it is to get the average back up as customers use reviews as ways to complain. I am kind of doing the same but I feel this needs to be addressed by the owner. There's a waitress who works there who's really rude. I have been coming here for years and the owner is really lovely and the food is great (a bit too much oil perhaps but that's probably the way is served in Ethiopia). I have been treated with contempt in more than one occasion and with very rude manners. Although I find this quite refreshing if compare to the fakeness of some other places, I think there is a limit and this stopped me from going there. A couple of times I was reminded that the restaurant was going to close in half an hour, despite the fact I had already finished my meal and about to ask for the bill. During my last visit I saw and heard the waitress telling the customer to get up and get the water (tap) himself... Now, I understand it is free but the drinks menu does not seem that appealing if there is such a thing, I don't even remember. I think you can BYOB but they do not encourage this too much. I am not going to go there in a while hoping the service will improve to an acceptable level rather than feeling almost under assault.

First time trying Ethiopian food and was really excited. Only decided on vegan for a friend who only eats vegan food. Cash only restaurant. I was surprised by the limited options of food and although the platter was tasty I was hoping for a bit more of a kick and flavour. I feel like this was tailored for European palates as it seemed very tame and this was the restaurants main demographic although it is run by bona-fide Ethiopians. Not a fan of the injeera as its sour, maybe I'm used to my Somali friends sabayaat so this took me by surprise. Don't think I will be returning but was nice to give it a try.

Is was fine. I ate the whole thing. But, it wasn’t good as some other Ethiopian food I had before. The beans was watery and not mushy for some reason, the Engera was sooo thin and the whole thing was just not flavourful enough. I don’t know if it’s a case off differences coming from different part of the country but it didn’t feel authentic enough. Again I ate the whole plate because it was tasty but their is room for improvement.🌻

Delicious vegan Ethiopian food! The flavours were delicious and everything tasted so fresh. The takeaway box is very good value for money. We had one box with rice and the other with Injera. This place is cash only, there’s a cash point not too far away!

I am surprised by the high rating of this place; the food was definitely not worth the money—tasteless. We ordered the large platter, expecting to love it, but ended up leaving more than half untouched. The service was also unfriendly and impolite. The small space and tables couldn't accommodate the platter. The waiter accidentally dropped some of our food, and when I informed him politely, he seemed annoyed. After providing a replacement, he advised us to be more careful. To add to the disappointment, at closing time, we were informed they only accept cash (not mentioned anywhere). My friend had to run in the rain to find an ATM. The lady, possibly the owner, continuously asked about my friend, rushing to close. This overall experience ensures I won't be returning to this place.

It has been a good few years since I last visited Andu. Returned with a friend for a quick and hearty meal and was not disappointed. The service was lovely and the food was brilliant. the portions run large though so no worries about being hungry after! Very sweet little local, and brilliant ethiopian food. It is BYOB and cash but don’t let that put you off. it’s truly fab.

We visited Andu Ethiopian Vegan Café for lunch on a Monday afternoon, which was a quiet time to come. We ordered a medium traditional platter (serves 2) and a jungle juice, which was similar to a mango milkshake. The food was prepared quickly, was well presented, and was very tasty and filling. We couldn't finish all our food, so we took the rest home. The staff were friendly and polite, and the food was reasonably priced. Cash only business and easily reached from London Overground stations, Dalston Kingsland or Dalston Junction. Will be nice to visit again sometime.

Food was delicious and authentic Ethiopian food, with some of the lightest injera I’ve ever tried! It was amazing 😍 only downside was the rude hostess. I didn’t hear her say cash only at the start of the meal as she spoke so quickly but when it came to pay she just sighed with frustration and said “I told you it was cash only. Go Tesco’s across the street”. I apologised and went out to draw cash, when I came back she was outside on her break and said a quick sorry. If I was local I’d have lots of takeaways from here but I probably won’t go back to eat in again.

Absolutely nothing to complain about - delicious authentic food, simple no fuss menu, really excellent value for money (we’re talking a tenner each maximum for a full belly - the platter for 2-3 people filled up 3 of us who were very hungry and still had some left over!), and efficient no frills service. One thing to note - cash only and BYOB :)

good option for vegans and to have dinner with friends. the plate is served to be eaten shared. there’s only one option the difference is in the way they serve it. for us it was our first time eating Ethiopian food and we enjoyed it a lot and ended up with full tummies. service isn’t great and there’s not any natural drinks options but you’re allowed to bring your own bottles though.

Amazing authentic Ethiopian food, very glad I stumbled upon this during my search for a new Ethiopian spot. Service was amazing very friendly environment and the smell of the traditional coffee ceremony was exhilarating, the beautiful smell of the buna reminded me off back home. Will come down again soon 🙂 Highly recommend!

The restaurant is small but nice inside The service lady seemed nice The food was a serious let down, no flavour. I seriously expected more in taste. This was my first time eating Ethiopia food but I don't believe Ethiopia food is this tasteless.

Have been a few times when in the area. Love it! Nice simple dishes, affordable and relaxed vibe. The traditional injera flatbread is so nice in the stomach (basically you won't get indigestion) - very healthy. When the dishes arrive it doesn't look huge, but trust me on this - it's really filling because it's so nutritious. Tunes were good also. Note it is cash only.

Don't expect fancy, but do expect tasty. Set menu of vegan Ethiopian dishes served on and with very moreish injera. Price is quoted per person, and food arrives quickly even on a wall-to-wall full Saturday night. Seating is close to each other and you help yourselves to water and cutlery you may need. BYO with no charge for corkage, which is a really nice touch. Don't think they do bookings, so be prepared to wait a little bit.

I wanted to try Ethiopian food so headed to Andu. The lady there didn't seem friendly enough to explain but just said Sampler or Traditional, not very helpful. So chose the Sampler , was good. Paid £9.50 that was for a sampler and 1 can of sprite, not exactly what I expected.

Lovely little Ethiopian restaurant in Dalston. £7 per person, all vegetarian. You don't get to choose what you eat but what they bring out is delicious. The amount of food they bring is incumbent on the number of people eating. You do get to choose between rice or flatbread. Very nice if you want genuine Ethiopian food!

I miss Andu cafe during lockdown! Easily the best value restaurant and takeaway in Dalston/Haggerston. Its a great healthy, convenient and low cost option when you dont have time to cook or for a casual meet up with friends, since its BYOB and the food is served to share. I recently visited Andu's Vegan Cafe after work, following high apprasial. My initial exposure to Ethiopian cuisine proved to be exceptionally delightful. The staff exhibited a high level of hospitality, seamlessly accommodating our group of eight despite the initial booking for six. Despite it being a typically busy Thursday evening, we were quickly seated within minutes, and the service was notably pleasant. I highly recommend Andu's Vegan Cafe and look forward to returning in the future.

Well that was an experience! Recommended by a close friend as to the best Vegan food one can try in London. From the moment me and my wife walked in, the authenticity was present, the ambience was lovely and all the staff that dealt with us were welcoming. Now the food was DELICIOUS! For those that are new to the cuisine, you’re about to have the experience that’s one of a kind. Much respect to everyone for giving us a great night, can’t recommend this enough !!!
