Can’t get enough of this hidden gem, the nostalgic journey has been the best experience of “Time Travel” with continuous history of brands and our evolution to create/change new and sustainable development of brands in the future. Worth a visit and the staffs are lovely, with hand-picked gift shops items that would inspire your creativity and innovations.

First time visiting. Staff were pretty friendly and welcoming. Nearest tube station was Latimer Road, just a few minutes walk. Although the museum isn't huge, it occupies one floor, there's just so much to see. It's like a hidden gem, so nostalgic too. All the packaging of products along the way brought back lots of fond memories. See for yourself. There's also a cafe there too but it was closed when I visited. Overall it was an enjoyable day, I actually spent almost two hours in there. You'll be surprised!! Go on, give it a visit. Best of all, it's displayed in years, so from a certain decade, it will bring history to light...

Costs £10 for adults and it’s more than worth the value. Not the largest museum but absolutely packed with interesting displays and good narratives. It is chronologically arranged and I particularly enjoyed the pre 1960s stuff. Very informative, to the point it took us 2 hours to go round. There was an additional exhibition of some popular brands in another room. Also a good cafe and nice garden for the summer. I think this is one of the best small museums in London. I’d suggest British tourists will get the most from it as it can be fairly nostalgic. However, foreign tourists may enjoy if they want to see what everyday items the Brits have become attached to down the years.

Small museum but it took us about an hour to actually take our time to look at the vast amount of items. Very interesting display. Worth a visit. Cafe, shop and bathrooms present also

You have to go there if you see my words. I just walk by this museum and I get inside, that was amazing, each of categories are clearly and have the things that you have never thought about. It just like a time tunnel. Me and my friends met the gentleman who is the owner of these stuffs, that was a nice experience to chat with him. Wish this museum will have more people come and cross the special time tunnel!

The space isn't very large but it's packed full of amazing things! One of my favorite museums in London. It's free to visit and the lady working the desk was extremely friendly. They have a little search game for kids to play and my 7 year old had a ton of fun with it (and so did we!) Highly recommend!

This is an excellent museum. It is organised in a very systematic fashion and is easy to follow. A trip always brings a sense of nostalgia with it. The 9 pounds entry fee is reasonable (this isn’t a museum which receives direct government funding) and is a similar rate to other smaller niche exhibitions such as the Cartoon and Pollock’s Toy Museums. Those who like this place should also consider a visit to the V and A Childhood Museum in East London. The Castle Museum in York and Edinburgh’s Childhood Museum might also be of interest. Half my first degree is in History, and those who have a wider interest in the discipline might desire a more detailed narrative. However, this is readily available online anyway.

I went here last minute as my original choice was closed for renovations. I am glad I did go because it was really interesting and they have a lovely collection of things. I spent about 90 minutes doing a slow walk taking it all in because there is so much to admire. It's definitely worth a visit for people who like old toys and games as well as learning about the social history through the eyes of branding and adverts. Ticket cost £9 for one adult.

This is a great little trip down memory lane. The museum leads you through the ages and finishes up with today's brands. You can see it all in half a day, so it's just the thing to squeeze into an empty morning or afternoon. A simple cafe there will get you a few snacks to eat, but you will want to go elsewhere for a more substantial meal.

We visited the museum on a weekday in the school holidays and it was pretty quiet. The museum is fairly small, but they pack in a lot of exhibits. There are two main areas - the Time Tunnel which takes you through branding from Victorian times to the present day, and the Branding Hall which had displays of individual products grouped together from throughout periods. The older sections of the Time Tunnel were interesting, but the areas from our childhood were where we spent most time as they were most nostalgic for us. There is a cafe and a lovely little outdoor garden area. We spent just over an hour at the museum in total and I would say most people would only spend 1-2 hours there, maybe longer if you visit the cafe. There were a few quiz sheets for children to do as they go round the museum and my 9 year old enjoyed doing one of these. He enjoyed seeing brands he is familiar with in the different time periods and also hearing about the things we remembered from our childhood. Definitely a family friendly venue.

Fascinating to look back. So much to see! I was very interested by the Ww1 objects. Cigarette advertising has certainly changed!!!! 😅

I loved it!!! I used to be a graphic designer, so seeing the progression of some of the well known brands is amazing, and some that haven't changed at all! Back in the 80's I went on a college trip to see 'The Pack Age' when it was in Gloucester, now it's moved nearer home I will definitely be back for another trip! Brought my 2 young daughters and her boyfriend, didn't know if they would like it? They enjoyed it too! And the shop is fab!

Incredible museum. I hope it never closes so people can keep learning about these specimens for free. Really happy we got to see this and it was a perfect destination after visiting the British museum. Close walking distance and it was interesting to see the UCL area.

A fascinating place to visit and totally free. The exhibitions are organised around the walls of one large room with a study area in it's centre. Exhibits include animal skeletons and preserved animals pickled in formalin and stored in jars. I found the Micrarium particularly interesting as never seen a collection of so many tiny creatures mounted on slides. If you need to access toilets the front desk are very trusting and will give you a key fob to get into the main university building to use their toilets. Also interesting to note the acknowledgement given to the injustices of slavery and the wealth produced from this trade which has underpinned the funding of previous staff salaries and the contents of this museum.

Very short experience. Lacked depth. This museum has so much potential to evaluate the depth of brand history. They simply demonstrated products across a timeline. There is much analysis that could be done. Nice cafe and garden there.

Such a fun and fascinating museum. A definite when visiting near Portobella Road, it's a short walk and you will not regret it. It brings up so many memories.

  • 5/5 Peter H. 4 months ago on Google • 36 reviews
Exceeded my expectations - it is not only about household brands but, for example, events such as the Victorian Great Exhibition, Coronations, wars, pop culture, toys and more besides. A small but comprehensive gift shop and pleasant café and paved garden broadens the appeal of the museum. Spent far longer than I expected the exhibits were so interesting, displayed in the main through a time tunnel taking you chronologically from early Victorian times to our age. It was a very enjoyable four hours which was both informative and nostalgic. The staff were uniformly helpful and engaging. Altogether a winning combination and, despite a long journey for us to get there from Sussex, one I would like to repeat.

A wonderful walk through time of about 2 to 3 hours that encourages exploring brands and advertising from different angles. The walk starts in the Victorian era and goes right through to 2010. There is also a couple of separate rooms with exhibitions that currently include a display of shopping lists, art created by young people and an exploration of brands and social activity. I think this is an incredibly detailed and clearly loved collection of products. There is some really interesting and eye opening history along the way. It was really interesting to see how society shaped brands and then brands shaped people. It was so interesting to see the transformation from the very floral, painted tins of Victorian times to the loud 90s and 00s! This is great fun for young and old people. I think younger people will really be entranced by all of the memorabilia and being able to see what their grandparents and parents played with, how they shopped and what their shopping looked like. The inner child in me was delighted to stand in the 80s, 90s and 00s surrounded by sounds from my childhood and magazines I read as a teen. Go. Be swaddled in the past and spoil your eyes for a few hours!

Possibly the best museum in London, a true hidden gem. The exhibits provide an look at life throughout the last 100 years, showcasing everyday items that provide an intimate view into the real lives of ordinary people. The later exhibits will surely trigger nostalgia for anyone who grew up in the UK, but by no means is that the only appeal. A great experience for any age group, and always worth a second visit! Note that photography isn't allowed in the museum so I am unable to illustrate my review, but rest assured everything is displayed very clearly and the exhibits are all fascinating!

The place I’m going to review is none other than the Museum of Advertising (labels, prints and more ,which concern the advertising of a certain product).Indeed,it is known, how advertising has been used by nam, since ancient times and this we can ascertain seeing the ancient advertisement found in the archaeological excavation of Pompeii..Who better than a Museum to tell visitors about the evolution of advertising? In this regard , the Museum of Brand Packaging and Advertising was open to the public in London in 2005. The creator and founder of this unique museum ,is Robert Opie .The entire collection exhibited in this museum offers tourists a pleasant journey through the history of advertising and its most famous logos ,from the Victorian age to the present day. Also this museum is worth a visit if you are interested non the subject.

I visited this museum in early January 2020. I was so excited about what wonders I would see once inside. However, I was quickly disappointed when I came face to face with with several shocking and vicious racist advertising pieces from the past. This content was displayed without contextualized commentary explaining it or its disgraceful history. Instead, these pieces were displayed (along with old Cadbury chocolate bars and cosmetics) as if they were delightful whimsical attractions. What was even more disappointing was that one of the attendants at the museum went out of her way to justify this offensive display when I raised my concerns with her at the end of my visit. Further, I was told that the head of the museum would call me - it is May 29, 2020 and I have heard nothing from the museum (COVID notwithstanding). If you do not support disregard for humanity which is rooted in vicious racism then I would advise you not to waste your time or money at this establishment.

A fascinating look into pre-modern ethics zoology. It's not a huge museum, and you'll probably make your way around in an hour but the exhibits they have are so interesting. Make sure you look above eye level as well, as they have shelves upon shelves of jars and skeletons. There were a few families visiting too, and volunteers explaining the history behind the museum.

This museum is part of University College London and is still used for teaching. The museum is actually quite small, but is packed with some of the most amazing exhibits of skeletons and other preserved zoological specimens. Even though the museum is small, it takes some time to get through the exhibits just because there's so many of them. And then the high quality of the exhibit means that very best of them are worth spending more than a minute to really appreciate. Don't miss the museums quagga skeleton, thylacine skeletons and samples, the rhino skeleton, all the preserved worms and of course the skulls of elephants and the extinct elf. The museum could've been a one time teaching room which would explain architecture with it's libraries and upper (but inaccessible) upper level. There's some amazing skeletons of hominids on the upper level. I'd loved to have been able to stand on the upper level, but just satisfied with a photogenic picture of it. Awesome.

The Museum of Brands is an absolute gem for anyone interested in the history and evolution of branding and consumer culture. From the moment you step inside, you are transported on a captivating journey through time. The collection of exhibits is truly remarkable, showcasing an extensive range of branded products, packaging, and advertising materials spanning several decades. One of the standout features of this museum is how it effectively captures the essence of different eras, allowing visitors to experience the nostalgia of bygone days. It's fascinating to witness how brands have adapted and transformed over time, reflecting societal changes and trends. The museum's thoughtful curation creates a dynamic and immersive experience, bringing brands to life in an engaging and educational way. Additionally, the museum offers a delightful café, where you can relax and reflect on the fascinating insights gained during your visit. The well-stocked gift shop is also a treat for brand enthusiasts, offering a wide range of souvenirs.

A relatively small museum, but you can still easily spend a couple of hours in here. A brilliant and fascinating collection of brands and packaging through the decades. Brilliant way of seeing the evolution of products and branding, and actually surprising just how many brands have been around for so long. A brilliantly nostalgic journey of things we saw and had as children. If you're in London, this is a must visit attraction.

A literal time-tunnel through the history of brands. Bookings were spaced a few minutes apart before going through the museum's one-way system which mostly worked but got bunched up in places where people were particularly interested in a given display. Large variety of brands on show and definitely worth a visit if you want a hit of nostalgia.

Brilliant reflective exhibition on at present - Displays of Power: A Natural History of Empire which acknowledges the painful origins of much of this collection. Excellent little museum full of curiosities. Where else can you see a Gibon skull, or a jar full of preserved moles?

Phenomenal collection brilliantly curated and much more interesting and attractive than in its prior location. Of particular interest are the micrarium with several thousand slides as well as glass lantern slides (photo) beautifully displayed as well as the dizzying array of specimens including everything from Portuguese man o' war to water buffalo to a tiny dik dik and a small slender loris. Definitely worth a visit!

(Translated by Google) A small but very interesting museum. Many stuffed animals. It is very close to the subway and the British Museum. Very nice collection of all kinds of animals. (Original) Un museo pequeño pero muy interesante. Muchísimos animales disecados. Esta muy cerca del metro y del Museo Británico. Muy bonita colección de toda clase de animales.

As it is free you lose nothing by visiting and there is much of interest in the sometimes gruesome specimens. The exhibits rise to the ceiling so are not always easy to see but many of the skeletons show you features of animal anatomy which you don't see with David Attenborough! Currently has a rather silly woke exhibition about the role of Empire in exploration and discovery, but you can ignore it.

Can we keep the jars of moles and so on and so forth but lose all the stickers & stuff apologising for how they were collected, particularly where they obstruct views of the exhibits?

Amazing experience! Absolutely great place. 1 hour and half wasn’t enough for me to learn the exhibition. Definitely my next visit I’ll spend more time!

Interesting and worth the journey to get to but they could do more. A fascinating journey through the history of branding. We’ll laid out as a timeline from the advent of commercial merchandising to the present day. Certainly brought back lots of memories. I’d have liked more depth of information in some places. The large final area seemed underused and the much publicised Mr Men feature consisted of a disappointingly small single display. Reasonably priced café with lovely outdoor seating area. Nice decoration in the loos too!

I found this museum after googling for things to do on your own in London. I had the BEST time. It is very nostalgic, even for me, someone in their early 30s. The staff were super friendly, was only disappointed that there was an event on so couldn't go into the garden. Other than that it was really interesting and I really was interested in some of the marketing back in the day. Which had the shock factor most of the time.

Amazing. Welcoming staff, very quiet and the kids loved it. Great to see the timeline of how things have changed. Garden was beautiful. Can not fault. I would definitely recommend and would return again.

Such a cool place! It's amazing to see not only how advertising has changed but how products have changed. A wonderful collection.

Really pleasant and easy to follow experience. I love these type of museums with quotidian objects that you get to see evolve throughout modern history. It makes for a great and lengthy visit if you appreciate getting stuck in the details of the different exhibited objects Could use some more explanations at times, but it's really enriching in any case.

Love this little museum! Exhibition is interesting, informative and educational - a lot to discover about the brands and how they developed and changed over time. I was with kids and they had fun. My favourite part that keeps me going back is their beautiful outdoor garden, were you can sit and work, have a coffee, meet friends... Everyone is polite and nice there. Highly recommended.

Incredibly cool museum. Great for a brand and marketing nerd like me. Could spend ages in there looking at everything! Plus a great little gift shop =)

The museum is small but very interesting. It was an enjoyable day and it was worth visiting it. One could spend ages looking at the items. The packaging of products made me feel somehow nostalgic. A very quiet place, not appropriate for children but the staff were really polite and welcoming. It is a hidden gem!

Absolutely loved this place! A step back in time to see how brands have changed over the years. Makes you feel a little old when you’re looking at some products from your decade and noticing the change. Very reasonable entry charge at £9.00. Staff were super friendly and helpful at the desk. The little cafe attached is again, very reasonably priced.

Absolutely a gem!! Nostalgic and informative, this walk through time will remind you of ALL the things you forgot about. From the late 1800's to the 1980's the displays and audio will send you back and have you pointing and saying 'oh yeah! I remember those, or my grandma had those' It has a great little cafe for coffee and a scone, sit and watch a compilation of old TV commercials, then see the other rooms with city tapestries and a vast scotch collection. Very nice and friendly staff, includes a small gift shop with some really great nostalgic items. Cost is very reasonable. Highly recommend.

Really interesting little museum in Ladbroke Grove West London. They have a huge array of products dating back to the Victorian era. So interesting to see how brands have changed (or maybe not) over the years. There is also a lovely little tea room with a most beautiful garden (such a surprise in a busy area of London). Well worth a visit and make sure to make time for tea and cake.

A cute little museum with brands from over 100 years ago. It was a nice history trip, very interesting to see how brands and advertising has evolved over the years. They have a small gift shop at the entrance, I would like to see some more variety in the products they sell there. Recommended visit if you are in the area.
