Was a random find while walking along the South Bank, and was very enjoyable and informative..... ended up spending about 2 hours. Very reasonably priced too. Staff were very nice and helpful. Overall very pleased, and definitely worth a visit!

I’ve Been in london for over 30 years and never came in here before but today I’m really glad I did! It’s a fairly small museum of around 5/6 small and large rooms but each is packed with information and atmosphere! This is definitely not a tourist trap, it’s a genuine part of london history and considering other ‘tourist’ attractions in the area it’s very cheap. Wonderful and knowledgeable staff too! Highly recommended.

A must place to visit. A dark piece of history. Place of horror, tortured and starvation. Even some you're still used today in different part of the world. Good price too. £6.00. At the end you are given 10 multi-choice questions. Got to get at least 9 questions right, otherwise they won't let you out. Free photo in the clink on line.

Really great and interactive museum. We went on a weekday so it wasn't busy and we could take our time. Very good information laid out throughout the museum.

I'm glad I decided to ignore the bad reviews and went to the museum anyway. It's a small museum, cheap and interesting. I spent a little over one hour there and what I liked the most is that you can touch and hold some objects and feel how heavy they are. Keep in mind it's not a massive and modern museum and you will enjoy the visit.

Super cool, it’s like a hidden gem. Very few people are aware of the real click prison situated at London Bridge. I took my daughter there and she quite enjoyed it. Even though it’s really creepy and some of the photos I took came out sort of distorted some how, as if there was something there in movement. Nevertheless 🤷🏽‍♂️. I will never know why they came out like that. I really thought it was really cool also makes you wonder the torture happened to the prisoners while there and truly how many died there. I recommend you the reader also go there and have your thoughts about it.

8 pound entry, not to bad but also nothing really unique I’ve never seen before. A lot of stories to read that are good. Little bit crowded. There are better prison museums to visit in other cities.

The Clink Prison dates back to 1144 making it one of England’s oldest and most notorious prisons. Positioned in the heart of modern-day Southwark and built on the original site, The Clink Prison Museum presents the scandalous truth of Old Bankside through a hands-on educational experience. There are opportunities to view archaeological artefacts, experience the sights, sounds and smells of the prison, handle torture devices, and to view and hear all about the tales of torment and many misfortunes of the inmates of the infamous Clink Prison.

Brilliant hidden treasure. A great little museum with an equally great price tag. A collection of 10-15 rooms / scenes with some amazing artefacts, many if which, including the torture devices, you can have a play with. Not sure who had more fun son 7 or Dad 48. The entrance makes it look very imposing and scary but there's more than a little "Horrible History" to the interior including a great little rat hunt for the kids which is harder than you'd think. Staff are awesome and really friendly. Overall it probably takes you an hour or maybe 90 mins but well worth it.

Small museum but very interesting with reasonably cheap tickets. It's all about medieval torture so great for older children or teenagers. There is a lot of reading and not so much interaction but all very interesting nevertheless! Id say you'd get about an hour at best.. Highly recommend if you're are in the area. You also get a free photo at the end of the tour...ps the door is a pull not push. I thought I was locked on the booth and panicked..was calling for help and they guy came and said to pull the door!!! Eeekk the embarrassment

A wonderful afternoon in the Clink Museum. Box office staff are friendly and helpful. Very informative of London's early history & the displays are artfully done. Definitely worth the money £6.00/£8.00 per person/visit. Would highly recommend.

The Clink Prison Museum stands as a fascinating dive into the gritty history of London's oldest prison. While the concept and location promise an enthralling exploration of medieval justice and incarceration, the execution in some of the displays falls short. Despite this, the museum offers an insightful peek into the lives of its infamous inmates and the harsh realities of the past. It's a worthwhile visit for those curious about the city's penal history, though there's potential for a more impactful presentation. A unique experience overall, reminding us of the layers of history beneath our feet.

Little Hiden gem! This has to be one of my new favourite museums, you can interact with so much and gives you a good look into how we treated prisoners and how we tortured people. I will definitely be coming back 😀

This museum would definitely be okay to visit if you have abundant time. If you are a traveller with less time, I can promise you that visiting this museum will take a good amount of time (1 - 2 hrs). I took somewhere around 1.5 hrs which later messed up my other itinerary for the day. It's mostly pictures of who's who got tortured, Catholics who got exiled, considered as traitors at that time. It talks about the prison conditions at that time. There are very few relics from the past, but don't expect many of them. Many things which you see are replicas.

It didn't even come close to the expectations I had for it. I went thinking it was going to be amazing, as another prision museums that I have been, like Alcatraz, Philadelphia or Auschwitz, but no. It's too much short tour and almost without recreation. The story falls short and when there are some people, it is impossible to see things well because the space is narrow. As another people said, I think it should be a free tour.

Amazingly I was the only one there during my visit today, but I'm sure will be busier during half term week. I wouldn't come just to see this attraction, I did as an add on to visting the Shard nearby. There's only a part of one wall left of the original prison, but the rooms have lots of information boards and a fair number of exhibits. One of the more unusual exhibits is the copy of Cromwells death mask. I think kids will love the touch screen exhibit which details all the different types of torture during those times. Pretty gruesome.

Small museum of old prisoners and how they was treated in old days . Creepy place but definitely worth it

This museum is interactive and rich with British history. There's many life-like props you can actually touch and take pictures with. There's information provided at every turn, lots of precious and old artifacts and eery music to help with the creepy vibes. Its situated by many shops, restaurants and even the famous Borough market so when you're done you can just grab a meal or snack and or find another museum.

An interesting to place. The closest tube station in London Bridge just a few minutes walk. The experience is nice even though the visit is quite short. The Clink is a prison that operated from 12th century till the end of 18th century. You can see how the prisoners lived. Maybe not the best place to visit for persons who don't really like dark spaces. Tickets can be bought online or at the entrance.

I took my two children (7 & 9) to have a look around. I thought it would be interesting for them to find out about the first prison and having walked past it for years, thought we should visit it. It was easy to find, you do have to go down a few stairs to access the museum, it's not very large, so don't rush to get around, we were done in 20 minutes! The person who was on the door was helpful and entertaining, he also ran the small shop! It was interesting and we did find out a lot about prisons of the past, plus lots of scary looking devices that my children found fascinating. I think we would have got more from it, if my children were older, plus it might be a little scary for some.

The museum prices are really worth it. Not to expensive either. £8 per person (Adult) and you get to ring the bell chime to call the so called ‘jailer’ who comes to let you in when you buy tickets. Then the Jail door opens and you can experience the Jail/Museum and how it became the jail from the 1144-1780. All statues and items from the times are there and you can explore it all and touch them and all sorts. Real fun and you get a free picture at the end (unlimited)

The museum was an amazing surprise and experience. We have stumbled upon it while we were walking and we decided to go in. It looks a bit creepy and I was a bit scared but it is just a museum. The creepiness lies in the history of the place. The offer a free photo inside the museum behind the bars which is really great memory. I totally recommend the visit.

Well worth the visit if you’re into learning the history of England, and being able to touch and feel the instruments used in old times. Great for families visiting the area. Here’s a few photos so you get an idea of what to expect.

Where the saying "thrown in the Clink" was named after. Neat little museum regarding the history of the prison which stood on the site hundreds of years ago. Some of the info boards are targeted for kids, but I think kids would be bored here, not much interactive displays.

  • 4/5 luana s. 1 year ago on Google
We had not planned to go but we had some spare time so we gave it a chance. The price is honest and the museum is full of interesting information but they should be better organized: in my opinion the content is very fascinating but not well managed. It is absolutely worthy the price. There are no toilets available. I recommend not to bring children. Don't miss the opportunity to take a free picture in the prison: it's really fun, if you get the right timing!

On my door step and never been before. Well worth a visit really cheap £8 adults £6 for kids and a family deal for 2 adults and 2 kids. Free photo at the end you can download. So much history didn't know it was the oldest prison in England and so glad I visited. So much history and horrors to learn. Not very big or long to go around but for the price and history lesson you can't go wrong!

  • 4/5 Jonathan 11 months ago on Google
Very small museum really, but lots of information around. Certainly has gory elements and the stuff to make your skin crawl. Depending on your pace, you could be in their 20 minutes or you could take 40 minutes to an hour. Seems to cover a very large time frame in its existence from its foundation past the Great fire of London, past the Black Death. Must have been a fair size complex in its life. You don’t really get a scope of it today.

The kids seem to have enjoyed it, they were able to try out some of the items. It's not that big, so it's best to take your time, for the price. Lovely lady, at the reception. Strong London account, loved it. Had a little joke on the way in, about being able to try out the items.

  • 3/5 Zoe 10 months ago on Google
It was fine. Badly laid out, a little gimmicky, but I love rats and swords and they had both rats and swords, so that gets 3 stars from me. If you’re going because you’re expecting a serious museum, you’re not really going to get that. There’s some interesting reading, but the highlight is TORTURE and RATS and AHHHH.

  • 4/5 Ioana C. 2 years ago on Google
Very easy access to this small museum/ prison. If you are passionate about history, give it a go. Is interesting, but it lacks of sparkle. Small, few interesting history details. Nice experience, but not impressed.

We stumbled upon this museum and were excited to see what it had to offer. However, we were gravely disappointed. There is quite little historical information provided, nothing has been updated recently, and it smells overwhelmingly wet. Definitely not worth the price of admission.

Very informative museum with lot of hands on experiences on display! It was interesting seeing the history of the various forms of torture

  • 3/5 Sam M. 8 months ago on Google
Meh. It really is just a museum. It's just placks on the wall with writing to read. Everywhere!! Props are dated, it's good that you can lift the ball and chain for instance to see how heavy it actually is. However it is just walking around reading. If you don't read everything you will be in and out in half hour if that. If you like to read and want to read everything, you could be in there over an hour. There was just nothing to it. With everything else around it could do with a more interactive spin on it or at least actors reading out or acting parts of it maybe.

This museum on the Southbank is built near where the original Clink prison was in Southwark. Family admission is 18.00 and this is a very good place to bring children although there is a lot of moaning and some instruments of horror, although they will learn a lot from the very realistic presentations.
