The Fashion and Textile Museum is a contemporary fashion museum in Bermondsey, London. Founded by British designer Zandra Rhodes in 2003, the museum is part of the Newham College of Further Education – one of Europe's largest further education colleges.

The Swinging London Exhibition was excellent today. This isn't a large space but it is well set out and it is used effectively to display clothes, images, furniture, patterns and textiles. For someone born just (just) a little too late to be part of the Swinging Sixties, I found it interesting and informative. Staff and volunteers are helpful and the shop is nice. All in all this exhibition is well worth a visit and isn't expensive for the amount of work that has gone into setting it up. The point about the cloakroom, made by another reviewer is valid but I don't think they have the people available to monitor the coats left. Admittedly, it was quite warm on the higher level. We kept our coats on to be honest. Don't wear a posh coat, then, if you want to hang it up!!! 😋 Otherwise, all was well and though there's no cafe, there are plenty of options locally. Great small museum! Another impressive event!! Thanks everyone!! I'll be back!!

The museum is so much smaller than I excepted, We paid 22£ for tickets but finish in 5 minutes… Firstly I thought there would be a permanent exhibition area that presents the history of British fashion design or representative clothes and textiles, but very disappointedly and unfortunately there’s only a small area that exhibits very limited and unexciting a few pieces of clothes. I was speechless and very disappointed by the presentation and organisation. From my point of view and all the fashion museums I have been to, I absolutely disagree to paid 12£ for this exhibition and it was unworthy. I strongly recommend that the organiser can evaluate the amount of the exhibit pieces first then price the tickets, otherwise it would be highly possible to let visitors leave negative feedbacks and have negative impact for its reputation.

Went to see an exhibition about 60s boutiques and their impact on the counter culture. Some interesting facts but not curated that brilliantly and the clothes were quite disappointing. Not as dazzling by any means as the exhibition photo. The best thing was the projections upstairs of 60s news articles and magazine covers.

I’ve visited the museum three times now, photos are of my most recent visit the 1930s Night and Day exhibit. It’s a lovely layout and always well presented. Staff are friendly and the ticket prices are reasonable for the exhibit. Only issue is the cloak room isn’t monitored so I do fear putting my coat in there if it’s an expensive one. Other than that a great place to spend an afternoon or evening, love the complimentary wine on some of my visits.

Besides being a spectacular building, the staff were super friendly and helpful. It’s not a large museum but I found the space to be well utilised. The Andy Warhol exhibition running in Summer 2023 lends really interesting context as a precursor to his work as a pop art pioneer.

Worth a visit if you love fashion. Its good to support the small museums like this one if you can. The exhibits are not large so its a good place to go if you have an half an hour to an hour to spare. I live around the corner from the venue. I went to see the recent Kaffe Fassett exhibition which I found interesting, lots of colourful patterns. The gift shop is very good and a great place to pick up gifts for fashion friends.

I have mixed feelings about the exhibition about Zandra Rhodes. I feel there is room for improvement in terms of what is displayed and how it is displayed, how things were lit.. I liked the interview with her and her sketchbook on display, along with photos of the print-making process she does. Wish there was more of her at work and in the process.. because that’s so interesting to me. Anyway I liked it. I’m sure someone who works or studies in the lines of fashion and design would love it or enjoy it more.

Nice exhibit space - well laid out, well lit, very informative info-panels. I went to the ‘60s fashion exhibit which I loved ! And for bonus points it’s in a great neighbourhood and only a couple of steps from London Bridge Station.

Very disappointing museum for the £9 admission fee. Interesting exhibition about swinging London fashion but that was about it. I was expecting something about the history of fashion and textiles in the UK but nothing. The only redeeming thing was we used the 2 for 1 railway ticket offer to save £9 for my wife. Museum needs to try harder if they are going to attract more visitors.

Space architecture (and size) and exhibition were both a bit disappointing. Fassett exhibition is about 30 pieces that did not evoke anything in me, as per its own description not necessarily made by professionals. Do not recommend Personnel were kind and professional at all times.

The staff were very rude. I noticed the museum and wandered in on my way to the white cube to look at the shop and to see what was on. There was a section with a sign saying tickets needed, so I didn't go in there. While in the open section with no sign asking for tickets, a staff member came up to me and started loudly questioning me on whether I had a ticket in front of members of the public. I apologised and attempted to explain that I hadn't seen any signs, but the woman was aggressive in her manner and showed no kindness, sympathy or apology for the lack of signage. It was very embarrassing and unnecessary and I was made to feel I had done something wrong, when I had only inadvertently wandered into a place without signs or staff restricting entry. I am perfectly happy to pay for tickets for exhibitions and I regularly do in other galleries. The problem was the signage was not there!

Glorious day walking round the Zandra Rhodes exhibition at the Textile and Fashion Gallery-the guide, Teresa? was so good . It is really worth booking a tour as it really brings the exhibition to life. There are videos and projected fashion shows. I am just so amazed by the continued creativity of Zandra decades later. Magnificent. Big plus the area around the museum is so vibrant- you can spend a whole day being amazed and entertained.

The current exhibition (Winter 22/23) features the work of Kaffe Fassett. No sign of Zandra when I visited, but the always fabulous Diane was in attendance.

The museum is so much smaller than we expected. We went to the textile museum mistakenly thinking it would show the history of textiles. How wrong we were We paid 22£ for tickets but spent five minutes walking around war inspired costumes waiting to get to the main museum Maybe we were wrong to think that that there would be a permanent exhibition area that presents the history of British fashion but when we asked where the main museum was we were told this was it and we were very disappointed It’s a very long way to go to London to pay over £20 to go to the toilet 😳

Amazed and inspired by the exhibition celebrating 150 Years of the Royal School of Needlework. Well curated and nicely presented, in well air conditioned spaces! Loads of variety in the items on show, and in most cases you can get right up close to see the beautifully detailed work

The museum is in a lovely location with a lot of potential but far too small for the price paid. Note that the museum display only one exhibition at a time and has limited display. The quality of the item displayed is good but sadly not enough to recommend the place to visit

The only part of the Museum that isn't accessible is the ticket desk. There's a disabled toilet. Ground floor flat from door to exhibition. Then you ask a staff member to take you through a locked door to the lift to see the upstairs.

Visited this lovely musuem to see the 150 years of the Royal school of needlework exhibition. It was laid out well and had a nice flow. There were some beautiful pieces including coronation gowns and student artwork. It has an interesting history of which I didn't know. The is a small shop with some lovely items in. A visit for any budding student or craft worker

Wonderful place for people interested in the business of creative craft making. The variety in the exhibitions they put on here is excellent and well worth the short walk from London Bridge. I was a regular here but have let things slip in recent years and hadn't visited for several years. I went back a few days ago and things haven't changed...it's still the same and I am overjoyed at it! What I like is how close you can get to the exhibits and I really get to study the pieces in detail. The gallery is in a small space, but that works in its favour as you don't get bombarded with things to see (unlike in the British museum!). They also put on fine special events and workshops, I have been to a few and they are excellent. They have special guests from the Royal school of needlework and Savile Row putting on classes and masterclasses as well as many other talented craft workers. There is an excellent shop selling printed matter and craft items and a nice cafe. I love the FTM because I really believe they want people to enjoy the displays and come away with some more knowledge & inspiration. I don't feel like they want to take your money and I think it is wonderful. I will be back very soon, will keep checking the website for new exhibitions, events and classes and promise not to leave such a large gap inbetween my visits again! Do yourself a favour and visit soon.

Very interesting exhibition viewing war and propaganda through the lens of fashion. Entry fee is on the expensive side for a relatively small exhibition (2-3 rooms), however I understand the cost goes to support the museum

Kaffe Fassett: "The Power of Pattern" exhibition at the Fashion Textile Museum (visited on 04/10/2022) from 23 Sep 2022 to 12 March 2023 Tuesday-Saturday 11:00-18:00 An all-enveloping vibrant fusion of colours and textures on the walls as well as the floor. (See photo 1) More than 70 original pieces, not all Kaffe Fassett’s work but his artistic vision through his selection of pieces by artists from around the world, related to Kaffe by his designs, the uses of his fabrics, his inspiration mixed with his own creations. The star of the show for us was Taiwanese quilter Danny Amazonas’ cosmic masterpiece ‘Levitate’ over 2 metre high, it is made up of Kaffe’s fabrics & was inspired by Sci-Fi television. (See photo 2)

(Translated by Google) For a paying museum it's very very disappointing in 20min you went around, £ 9 is too expensive, we expect at least has beautiful exhibitions, it is not. I advice you the museum of natural history or war, they are much more impressive and interesting thanks to beautiful staging and courses of about 2 hours and FREE! (Original) Pour un musée payant c'est tres tres décevant en 20min vous avez fait le tour, 9£ c'est beaucoup trop chère, on s'attend au moins a de belle expositions, il n'en est rien. Beautiful space & exhibitions - though have unfortunately experienced rudeness & attitude from staff at the front desk which genuinely tainted the experience for me. It's exactly this that can taint the industry & can exclude. Ironic when the sector can be so vocal about 'inclusivity'. A concession, is a concession & it's the intricacies that make the difference.

I visited this small but impressive museum, it was probably my lucky day when I visited because the exhibit (Weavers of the Clouds) was just great. Great pieces, stories of the people making the pieces, the description of materials to create the pieces, everything well curated and organized. I felt that I paid the right price for the admission, and I had the pleasure to walk around the neighborhood, had a cup of coffee, and learn about this part of London. Thank you

Excellent gallery with very well curated and researched exhibitions. I've seen one about art deco fashion a while ago which was absolutely fantastic - ruch and varied. I'm looking forward to the Andy Warhol textiles one before it closes. People complaining about the size of the gallery should do their homework before visiting. It's a modest size but more than makes up for this in the quality of the exhibitons / content

I Love the f&t museum.. it is a brilliant size, Just big enough to hold everything you need to know but never overwhelming. (the last tate exhibition I went to had TWELVE rooms!!!) The range of exhibitions is wonderfully wide. Wallpaper, twenties dresses, sixties fashion (through which I lived), fabric designand printing and print, zandra rhodes herself.... Great curating and a tempting shop. have a very enjoyable afternoon with some great eateries nearby. We don't want to lose it.
