This station shut eventually in 1994 after years of under use and is used for training, testing out of concepts, fil and TV work and you can also visit on a Hidden London tour (which I did). The tour guide was a former LUL worker and she was very knowledgeable not only about the station but in general about the Underground as well. The two main parts to this are the visit to the platform made redundant in the early 20th Century which were used to store valuable items in the World Wars (including the Elgin Marbles and pictures from the National Gallery) and the platform closed in 1994 (although, as it still has a connection to the mainline at Holborn that can be energised, it could be seen as being mothballed)

Great abandoned station with old stock train in the platform. Lovely wooden ticket office. Unfortunately the lifts no longer work so have to use the stairs

An interesting place but not a lot there. I suppose it's more the historical interest of an iconic station. Worth going but beware there are a lot of steps to go down- and then back up. The main items are the old lifts (not working), old posters (that could be fakes from film crews), and some old tube stock. The guide is very knowledgeable and keeps the interest up during the visit. You do have to book and to get in early to get a place.

Excellent visit on one of the rare 'Hidden London' tours. Only a small group of 20, so easy to get around. Very pleasant and knowledgeable guides.

(Translated by Google) The atmosphere of the old London underground has been preserved, and it feels like a time slip back decades ago. It's no wonder that it's a place for shooting various movies. One of the best places in London (Original) 昔のロンドンの地下鉄の雰囲気が保存されててまるで数十年前にタイムスリップした感じです。色んな映画の撮影場所になっているのも納得。ロンドンの中でも特にイイ場所の1つです

A time warp, perfectly preserved, apart from the lifts not having worked since 1994 (when it closed)

Booked 2 tickets for this tour in November 2018 (tour date in February 2019) will be unable to attend on the date I booked due to breaking my leg. Was told that no refunds or transfers to a later dated tour are possible - hence the 1-star. Utterly shameful.

If you love abandoned stations on the tube then this is something you will love! I've actually been on this tour in may 2023. Very easy to get to via Holborn and temple stations. Lots of information about aldwych and it was also a great tour around the station. The entrance is on Surrey street (the rectangular entrance at aldwych) and not the strand entrance. We also got to wander around the platforms a little bit. Great experience! Highly recommend!

Good, informative tour - but for how much it cost I was a bit surprised at how quickly it was over. I suppose there's only so long you can drag out a tour of a tube station and I can't fault the guides on their knowledge, as I felt I came away having learned a lot. They were also very accomodating of my mother who had a bad back and couldn't walk up and down the stairs very quickly - I'm grateful to the staff for helping her out as best they could because I'm sure the delays were quite annoying! Excellent experience for the train geek in your family.
