โ€œDemocracy is essentially an attitude of reverence towards our fellow men" -the quote on a wall of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Memorial in North London. This property was bought by govt of Maharashtra & was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in 2015. Place is very well maintained by Indian Embassy in UK. Dr. Ambedkar lived in this house in 1921-22 while he was studying in London School of Economics.Of the four floors, the basement serves as a meeting room, and a photo exhibition showcasing Ambedkarโ€™s life and achievements are spread across the ground, first and second floors. The first floor also has a library with a collection of Ambedkarโ€™s writings and a comfortable reading space overlooking the garden. UK government has threatened to close this place due alleged breach of local planning rules & complains from locals about nuisance created by visitors, however I have learned here that Indian Embassy has appealed against it and they are pushing very hard to save the memorial status of this place. Nevertheless this memorial of one of the greatest Indian reformers and pioneer of social justice in India, is an ultimate source of inspiration for all Indians across the globe.

Must visit places for Indians ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Very inspiring. I was the only one inside when I visited. The biggest con is the days they are open, which is only during weekdays. Fortunately, I was able to make it. Do check out the book "Constitution of India" while you visit. Share this place with your friends to learn about the man who created our constitution.

The door was open but told I couldn't visit without an appointment. Even though nobody else was visiting, there was no mention of how to book an appointment.

I visited in November 2017. The place is a pilgrimage for Indians as it's the place where great mind, father of Indian Constitution stayed. However I opine as the person present there could not not converse in English or even Hindi language. He could not even tell the number of books kept there or for that matter anything about the place. That is not expected. It's a shame...! Appoint some knowledgeable person.

My visit to the Ambedkar House in London was both edifying and awe-inspiring. This museum commemorates the life and work of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, a luminary jurist, economist, and social reformer who is widely considered as one of the most consequential figures in modern Indian history. Born in 1891 in Mhow, a town in Central India, Dr. Ambedkar battled discrimination and prejudice due to his low caste status. Nevertheless, he emerged as a highly accomplished scholar and leader, obtaining a PhD in economics from the London School of Economics and playing a crucial role in drafting the Indian Constitution, as well as serving as the country's first Minister of Law and Justice. The Ambedkar House, located in a stately Georgian townhouse in the Camden neighborhood of London, is a fitting tribute to this phenomenal individual. The museum houses a wealth of information about his life and work, including an array of photographs, personal effects, and letters written to his family and friends. One of the most intriguing exhibits is a collection of Dr. Ambedkar's books and writings. He was an astoundingly prolific author who wrote extensively on a wide range of subjects, including economics, politics, and social issues. He was an unwavering champion of the rights of Dalits (formerly known as "untouchables"), women, and other marginalized groups, and his ideas remain a significant influence on Indian society today. My visit to the Ambedkar House was an enriching and humbling experience that underscored the significance of combating social injustice and striving for equality. I heartily recommend this museum to anyone interested in Indian history, social reform, or simply wishes to learn about an extraordinary individual who devoted his life to improving the world. This place is must visit to see how Dr. B R Ambedkar stayed at London and his contribution to Indian Constitution. This place is now own and maintained by government of India. Entry is free and it opens on weekdays only. The nearest tube station is 'Chalk Farm' from there it is 5 minutes walk. Toilet is available at the top floor of the house.

We visited the place with lot of hope, but sad to say that we kept ringing the bell but nobody opened the door. Checked with neighbouring house and they mentioned the place is hardly opened. Sad that it is not open during day time as well. The caretakers of the place should ensure its accessible to visitors. We tried calling the mobile no. but noone answered.

We are coming here for the 3rd time. And still It is not open. This is very disappointing. We are messaging on Facebook but got no reply. When called on the number, it starts ringing inside but nobody picks. By doing this, you are degrading its integrity. Manage the museum properly or mark it as shut on Google.

Travelled for more than an hour from Tilbury to chalk farm to visit this place on a rainy day but it was locked. No one to answer the door or a number for assistance. We had checked the opening days and timings before visiting. It was a disappointing moment for us yet we were happy that we could get here till Babasaheb's house.

Great little museum. They have an extensive collection of his written work and space to sit and read. I also enjoyed looking at the pictures of Ambedkar. You can see the bedroom he used to stay - the rest is a library and museum. Well worth a visit.

Worth seeing this location and a terrific initiative from the Indian Government, the staff Mr.Fahad was quite helpful in discussing Ambedkar's life history and his achievements.

I loved the neighborhood. It's very calm and soothing. Dr. Ambedkar's house is a massive two-storey house building that consists a huge library, bedroom and living room. Every room has his memorial along with other memorable things. The house is very quiet and calm. I had an amazing experience witnessing his things, books and photographs representing the social work and life scenarios. It was a surreal experience.
