Weird and wonderful, the museum is a celebration of all things bizarre. The bar upstairs has a huge range of absinthe to choose from. Although it's quite small, the museum has lots to see, so is well worth a visit.

This is truly one of the few hidden gems in London that I really enjoyed; it’s packed with quirky, weird and fun things that I would never expect to see in a museum. As a small business owner, I totally agree with them charging a small amount to support the excellent work in maintaining and coming up with such an idea, and if you take your time to look at every single piece you’ll be just as impressed too. It’s easy to miss with the overwhelming attention to details so they even have a poster that tells you the things you can find. I took it upon myself to make it an Easter egg hunt. Overall, I highly recommend it if you’re open to different cultures and mindsets. I would bring more friends back again.

By far the best, most intriguing, eye opening, quirky, intimate museum in London. And the Absinthe bar is amazing too! Everyone should go here at least once in their lifetime.

My third visit, this time on a rather warm Sunday in September, and we were given a friendly and easygoing welcome by Mitch and Olivia. Had a drink in the bar before visiting the museum (cocktails are London prices but pretty much worth it for the taste). You will really want to take your time in both the bar and museum, if it's not too busy (at least 2hrs), because there is so much to look at for a deceptively tiny venue (be warned, some content is 18+)

Absolutely loved all the weird stuff down in the museum! Feel like £10 might be a bit overpriced for the size of it, so I'm happy they have a option for people with lower income. Super cool place!

Such an exciting and strange collection/museum of oddities. It holds one of the best taxidermy displays I’ve ever seen, and some seriously creepy sculptures and occult artefacts. The atmosphere is fun and light hearted and the staff were so friendly and encouraged us to take our time and enjoy everything at our own pace. I can’t wait to come back and visit again.

Part absinthe/cocktail bar, part museum. The exhibits range from the absurd to the bawdy, but never take themselves to seriously. Take an hour to look through all of the cabinets and you might find treasures such as David Bowie's biscuit crumbs or a genuine merman's hand. When you enter, the staff will ask you if you want to take a drink down with you, and I recommend that you do. If possible, take some time to try the absinthe upstairs before you go down, but watch yourself on the spiral staircase if you do. It's a wonderful, rare spot which adds something essential to London's cultural array. I hope it never changes.

Amusing collection of curiosities & ephemera in the basement of an absinthe bar. Lots of preserved animals & putative magical objects. Take the stories with a grain of salt. Fair warning, some people many find some of the exhibits distasteful or vulgar.

What a hidden gem! Oh my, that was one of those experiences you can never forget. Fantastic collection of the most peculiar things you could ever imagine. There is even poo of Amy Winehouse! Apart from that they serve fantastic cocktails with absinthe (or absinthe alone). What a place to be!

Inside the absinthe bar but you could just ask to go to the museum. Entry is £6. Spiral stairs entry is very steep and it is cramped downstairs so you have to squeeze past visitors. The earlier in the day you arrive, the easier it is to manoeuvre I imagine. Very small museum but packed full of the strangest curiosities. I love this kind of irreverence and spent over half an hour in here. Some very funny artefacts here. Well worth the entry fee.

When you go in, there's a bar and two areas for drinks. There's a very narrow staircase to go downstairs to the museum section, and it can get very crowded and stuffy. I think it was good to go do something different. The museum has a lot of mummified and preserved bodies/body parts, items of the sexual nature, and nudity. There is a section on self-harm and can be triggering for some.

Characterful absinthe cocktail bar with an interesting collection in the basement. The bar itself is decorated with curious items. You can just go to the museum, which is open quite late, or have a drink first to get discounted entry. Cocktails were great and the staff were very friendly.

An intriguing place filled with the weird and wonderful. I had the museum all to myself when I visited (my boyfriend opted out as the imagery was a bit too much for him). Sadly didn't have a chance to taste anything afterwards in the cafe, but they definitely have a very large collection of drinks. Staff was very friendly as well. Bought a beautiful crow skull as a souvenir.

If you enjoy Macabre curiosities definitely worth popping in. Slightly on the expensive side for the size of the museum but given it’s location can not complain too much.

The surrealism is real, I didn't expect this museum below a cocktail bar. It is an amazing museum with lot of curiosities, however there's a considerable amount of dust down there. We paid 3£ each The insects collection is completely amazing. Just wow. Incredible.

I used to spend so much time in this bar/ museum / taxidermy class... So when I moved back to London, one of the first things I wanted to do was t take my kids there (they are used to this style of aesthetic so, nothing shocking for them). I was super excited and them as well. But we were received not once, but twice we so much disdain (the first time we weren't allowed to enter because it was 5, and the second time we almost couldn't enter because they don't take cash and wouldn't let me ask fellow human beings to exchange coins for entry fees. Fortunately, a woman from an other shop helped and they were extra rude to her as if, she told me later, they were pissed of we managed to enter). I wanted to offer a cocktail at the coffin table downstairs, which I was told they don't do anymore (even though there is a sign on it saying you can enjoy cocktails there), so, ok, no cocktails. The museum didn't change a bit. Just dustier, and the charm from before probably left with the absolute kindness of the previous workers. It was my biggest disappointment in London because I kept my museum book as a treasure all those years. It used to be grand and extravagant. Now it's just posh and full of itself.

It was such an odd but awesome experience. There were so many weird, creepy things in that museum. Lots of dark stuff. I was especially interested in the grimoir they have in there. They also have an awesome bar, where I had one of the best cosmopolitans of my life. I would definitely recommend giving this place a visit. Such a vibe!

Mixed response, the museum is so close to brilliance but let down by a few lapses in judgement I guess? The museum is at its best when it's eclectic, a few punchy items or displays but more or less higgledy piggledy. Gives the vibe of a Victorian eccentric collector who has lived through the 20th century and in to the early 00's. The problem is that some of it is overdone and ends up losing the humour, maybe being childish (in a bad way) and a bit kitsch. Ends up breaking the mystique of the place. It feels like it needs rearranging or taking a few of the items out of there to soften some aspects, so that when the museum does try and use shock value, it takes. I understand that it trades on and goes for this idea of saturation, and a complete lack of curation that makes it a 'curiosities' museum. However, the problem is that it's firstly, in need of a refresh, it would be Avant Garde for a late 90s early 00s museum, but now is a little bit silly. Second it needs just a touch more refined curation, just to check it's not overdominated by a single theme, and finally, give the best items greater prominence. The museum currently feels like it was curated by an edgy teenager in the early 00s who wanted really to make a sex museum but had to add a couple natural history bits and a few celebrity things to make it a curiosities museum. To be fair, the artist may even like this review, so who am I to say anything. Let's down the otherwise excellent cocktail bar up top!

incredibly interesting museum on the item viktor wynd has collected over the years. some things scary, some slightly odd but everything completely weird. from a jar of urine to a taxidermy goat in a suit, you can spend ages looking through everything before leaving. there is also a cocktail bar on the ground floor as an added bonus. staff are all very friendly. will definitely be returning

As it mentioned in description, it’s not for everyone’s taste. But I love it so much hahahaha. I seldom leave review on Google map but it’s so interesting that I strongly want to praise it (? Ticket with student discount is £6. Though someone said in the review that it doesn’t worth the price, I was thinking: these are what I can see with only £6? The collections are very unorganized, weird, and a bit creepy, but at the same time so fascinating. It’s suitable for those who have open mind and boundless creativity😉

A (spectacular) museum without the rules of a (regular) museum. A direct insight, in the absolute most literal meaning, to Viktor Wynd's fascination and exploration of the humane, mundane, extraordinary, and beautiful. Browsing through the vast world of things, some labeled with text and others with only your eye and imagination as story line, you explore various skeletons and leftovers from this world along with adorable new worlds created from dead animals in beautiful bespoke clothes and handcrafted surroundings. Definitely worth a visit - of not only for the tasty cocktails you have before and after the visit. Enjoy.

It was the first place we visited in London after arriving from the USA. Totally worth it! The staff was great and totally understanding about us missing our reservations because we got lost trying to find them. One of the best parts of my London experience.

Clever business idea with a quirky cocktail bar perfect for dates, very low light adds to the mystery. If you have a drink, entry to the museum costs only £6: the collection is better than expected, particularly if you read the notes below each item, nothing really scary, just a bit gross. Make a reservation as the place is quite popular and seats are limited.

Terrible, spent >£10 for a thin cocktail and yet more for entrance to the 'museum' which is just a basement soaked in knickknacks and formaldehyde, and then the staff actually came over and complained to my friend for not leaving a tip, despite our drinks being late and costing more than a small African country! Utter tourist trap, and the staff are rude. Go to the neon cocktail bar instead (edit: God's Own Junkyard).

This was such an excellent experience, I could have spent hours looking at everything. I don't want to give too much away as I personally think going in with no idea what you're going to get just adds to the experience. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed!

Had the best time tonight, we were early but they accommodated us any way! Friendly and knowledgeable staff, felt right at home. The museum was amazing so many things to look at I was on my element! Then we headed up so sample some drinks which were lovely! Got myself some books and post cards! Hopefully come again in the future would love to see what other oddities will be added!

This was a great experience, exactly what I expected from a cabinet of curiosities. The museum is small but so full off different oddities that you could easily spend several minutes looking at each and every display and still notice somme new stuff when having a second look. Some of the objects displayed will make laugh, some other will make you quite uneasy and some will seem completely random but the all atmosphere is sure to make you feel something and you won't stay indifferent to what you'll see. After the visit we had a drink with my boyfriend, let me tell you it was the coolest bar we've ever been to, and the cocktails were particularly nice and tasty. Unfortunately we were really tired by our trip so far so we couldn't stay to have another drink. The staff there was really pleasant and the service was really good. Overall we really liked our visit , I will recommend this place to my friends who are amateurs off unusual places and experiences.

  • 4/5 Alfredo F. 1 year ago on Google
Eclectic and eccentric collection, somewhat claustrophobic but definitely worth exploring. I would probably reconsider the curation concept and reduce the number of objects on display, so they can be presented on rotation. This would probably also attract more returning visitors. Looking forward to going back and maybe run into Viktor himself! :)

The museum is inside of a bar. The things (Exhibited items) are interesting and some of them really surreal. You don't now if it's what it supposed to be or just a fake - it's all about what you believe in. The Viktor Wynd's wunderkabinett is worth seeing. The entry fee was 6 pounds. Just go there if you are in London.

This is a very strange museum as the title would suggest. It's a bit of a squeeze so worth booking ahead. You will probably not spend a lot of time there either. It costs £10 to enter. Might be worth sharing the occasion with drinks upstairs in the bar but I haven't tested those for quality.

The staff were great and so knowledgeable about the absinthe they offered. Very friendly and good at giving advice and tips on how to have your absinthe. There were so many to choose from and if you were undecided, the staff were able to recommend something for you based on your drinking preferences. They also had a few unique cocktails which we really enjoyed as well, with pretty much all of them having a absinthe/ herbaceous theme to them. There is a little food menu which we didn't see until we were going to leave, but we'd definitely come back for another visit soon! The museum itself was definitely filled with some amazing little curiosities! So much to see and lots of very random things that you wouldn't find elsewhere (as well as a few things you could find in the Natural History Museum). Even if you dont like absinthe, the museum is worth a visit in it's own right!

If you visit London and want something different from the V&A or Camden town norm then this is where you want to go. I had found this on google and definatly wanted to see what it was about. There are no other words other than weird, mystifying and bizarre. There are things there you'd expect and things there you never want to see again :D Afterwards we had a cocktail in the bar upstairs which was nice then tootled off back to reality.
