After a fabulous lunch at Borough Market, this is a great find. The ship, a replica, is Real History. You will be amazed as to how this little beauty could have survived a journey around the world. Clocking up over 100k miles it finally came to rest here in 1996. Guided tours. Tickets available on board. 'Pirate heaven' for kids. Continue walking along the South Bank. There's so much more to see.

Really impressive to see even though its a replica. Built to the actual size of the original Golden Hinde a war ship that sailed in the late 15 houndeds. Real craftsmanship worth a visit only £5 to go on board .

This reproduction of the golden hind is stunning, it was the Apollo moonshot of the Elizabethan era, the original under the command of Sir Francis Drake sailed 250,000 miles on an around trip around the globe, that is the distance from the Earth to the Moon, a bold undertaking considering that due to the currviture of the Earth you can can see only fifteen miles such a brave undertaking for a small ship, brave men journeying into the unknown, the ship itself is amazing, I find it impressive compared to it's later naval counterpart HMS Belfast, smaller but no less impressive if you are visiting borough market it is only a short walk from Southwark Cathedral and admire the courage of the sailors who ventured into the great blue unknown to discover the world in a tiny ship.

I do appreciate the work that has gone into creating the full size reconstruction of this 16th Century warship. However I can't give this more than 3 stars as a tourist attraction, particularly as I had just come from HMS Belfast which represents much better value for money than the £5 entry fee for the Golden Hind. There is little to see inside this ship and when you descend to the main deck if you're anything above 5'10" you have to stoop. But when you get down to the gun deck, you really do have to squat. It's a shame the ship is surrounded on three sides by buildings limiting the light coming inti the area. Only the north side is open and facing onto the river.

Really interesting to see, how pirates sailed in the past on such a Historic ship. The Tickets Are affordable, but After 15 Minutes on board you‘ve seen everything. It would be cool of some corners would show more daily live like beds. At the moment there are only some canons to see.

The experience was a bit underwhelming as an adult to be honest. I guess the narrow dry dock doesn't do justice to the ship, nor does the scaffolding. The animators/staff had a great time, though, so it could be very different for small and curious kids.

A beautiful ship. Really worth a visit to see how car we have come! I really would have have not wanted to traven half away around the world on it but to look at it is totally fascinating. Saddly we could not go on it due to works on going but still worth going to look from the outside. 5 stars go and see it!

I was visiting the Southwark area, so decided to have a look at The Golden Hind museum ship. As a ship famed for circumnavigation of the globe, I was really looking forward to visiting. I was very disappointed to learn that this museum is in fact a replica of the original ship. The ship is much smaller than I thought it would be and there's not an awful lot to see.

Though if you’re a big guy like me you will struggle to fit and your back and knees will kill you but this is the most fun I’ve had in so long. This escape room is so cool combining the 2 World navigating voyages of the Golden Hinde in a fun, educational and fun experience. Some clues are more challenging than others, but if we did it in an hour, anyone can because we are dumb 😂 Get over there and solve a mystery as your walk through history.

The first interesting thing is definitely the location. In the centre, between tall buildings and by the Thames, makes this corner of London quite special. The other interesting thing is the price, just £5 to have a visit. And it’s a pleasant time going through the ship (that’s a replica) and having a small understand of how people could have lived there. I definitely suggest to have a visit. After years it was the first time I got inside, and it was definitely worth it.

Replica of the Golden Hinde, of Sir Francis Drake fame. Well worth a visit to see inside and the conditions that were endured as he sailed over 250,000 around the world. Came across this by chance, and so glad I did, very interesting and the team doing the work are doing a fantastic job. You can donate out of hours via the wireless reader, think it’s set at a minimum of £3

We did the Escape Room on the Golden Hinde with our children (10 and 13) and had the MOST fun experience. The game takes place all around the ship, your crew having to solve clues, open hatches and make difficult decisions (dun dun dun...) with the help of the most amazing ' ghosts' (the staff is seriously amazing, providing both help and entertainment along the way!!). Can't recommend this experience enough - totally worth it. From the French People Crew

An absolutely incredible experience. So lucky to have this. The ship is beautiful, and gives you a perfect picture of what it must have been like to live on the boat. Staff are very friendly, and very knowledgeable. Sarah was great with the kids, showing them how to clean and load a canon…and sharing really interesting history with us adults. I can highly recommend a visit. It is great value for money. They also host primary and secondary schools.

For such a small fee you get an awful lot for your money. The guides give frequent well told animated histories of the ship. The ship itself is fascinating to explore (mind your head!) It is mind blowing to know it (bear in mind it's a 50 year old reproduction) circumnavigated the globe with only 60 sailors on board led by Sir Francis Drake. Children will love this ship, with lots of nooks and crannies to explore.

So cool! This is such an important part of history, and I loved being able to see it. It is being renovated, so there is a lot of scaffolding covering the ship. The entry fee to go on board is not that high. It was £6 per person or 18 for a group of four

One of my most favourite locations in London. A stunning boat full of history and excitement. I recommend pre booking your tickets to ensure you get on. The boat has a lot of see and do onboard. There are no refreshments on board but there are loads of pubs and restaurants around. It is just around the corner from Borough Market which is full of tasty treats

Really enjoyed my visit to The Golden Hind. Being on a sailing ship was so interesting. I highly recommend waiting for the tour, the tour guide was absolutely fantastic, happy to answer any questions and gave us so much fascinating information about Drake and the ship. A couple of parts of the tour were interactive, which made it fun for the children that were on the tour, which was nice to see. Well worth taking the time for a visit.

Wandering about London on the south bank of the Thames, I came across this old sea vessel and was pleasantly surprised. It looks authentic, and it should, because it’s a replica of the original sailing galleon captained by Sir Francis Drake. It certainly looks the part, and at first I wondered if it was an original. But after thinking a bit more I realised there was little chance a vessel this old from the 1500s could still be in such pristine condition. While it is a replica, it is also an actual sea faring ship that has seen a good amount of real ocean sailing. Anyway it really is an impressive sight that you should check out when in the area.

Very good experience with young kids. The guides are funny and knowledgeable. They entertained and taught us a lot about life on board of the ship and the story of Sir Francis Drake. There is a picnic area for schools and toilets on site. Careful very low ceiling!

Great piece of history that can be explored from the street or aboard (though watch your head). They sometimes run special events which I'm sure pay for the continued maintenance but can impact visiting times. There isn't too much information for reading at this museum so if you're interested you research it prior to visiting.

Amazing ship and a great little visit. Really friendly, enthusiastic staff: especially the young girl who did a really energetic and engaging talk on the process behind firing cannons, getting all the children involved in demonstrating each stage. My son didn't stop talking about how he had put the cannonball in the cannon all weekend! The ship is impressively evocative and an interesting visit, really gives a feel for how 16th century sailors had to exist.

(Translated by Google) Replica of Francis Drake's ship the Golden Hind which sailed the seas of the globe in the 16th century. Drake was one of the most formidable captains of the English Royal Navy. He was knighted in 1581 by Queen Elizabeth I who was the daughter of Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn. The story goes that the body of Sir Francis Drake rests at the bottom of the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Panama.

Way overpriced for a less than mediocre quality pint of guinness. Considering they were playing the 6 nations it should have been better. The views and the fried pickles were the only redeeming factors.

  • 5/5 Florin P. 4 years ago on Google
Absolutely lovely. Get aboard and enjoy a walk around the ship. Compared to today's ships, it seems impossible that this little beauty could carry enough crew and provisions to sail the seas.

(Translated by Google) The Golden Hind was an English galleon (a frigate) best known for his circumnavigation of the globe between 1577 and 1580, captained by Sir Francis Drake. He was originally known as The Pelican, but was renamed by Drake in the middle of the trip, in 1578, as he prepared to enter the Magellanic Strait, calling him Golden Hind to greet his patron, Sir Christopher Hatton, whose crest armorial was of 'hind' gold (the heraldic term of a female deer). Hatton was a major sponsor of Drake's journey.

A smashing look back in time at a ship that played a really important part in our history, preserved in a hidden part of London surrounded by people who don't really understand its relevance but love the fact it's a boat with the gerkhin in the background. Climb aboard to have the "pirate" experience or ignore the fact everything is about parents trying to stop kids from crying and attempt to engage as an adult with an important relic.

Good for the price: £5. There weren't too many tourists when I visited, which made the experience better. It was a good opportunity to walk around the ship's decks slowly and see things in detail. The staff was polite and helpful, with the exception of the ticket office. Do not expect a History lesson. In fact, I was shocked to hear the young lady at the ticket office say she thought this had been the first ship to circumnavigate the world! I actually heard a tour guide, unrelated to the Golden Hinde, say that same thing to a group of tourists. I was so shocked and couldn't help but intervene - quite rude, I suppose. I guess soon they'll be saying John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto) discovered the Americas. The Golden Hinde would benefit from having a pre-recorded audio tour. I would've paid £2 extra for that. It would be interesting to have a map show the voyage of circumnavigation, Drake 's bio, and accounts of his raids. As a teacher (sadly not a History teacher but an enthusiast of the Discoveries) I can say that the Golden Hinde could easily be turned into a top educational and entertaining option for school trips. What did sailors eat and drink? How did they find their geographic positions using maps and the stars? What is the trajectory of a cannonball? How much can you load the ship, considering it's displacement? How did they fight? Who did they fight and why? I wish there had been more History and more stories. Simply put, no story, no soul. It's urgent to write and teach the visitor the stories of Golden Hinde.

We didn't even know this ship was there until I was looking for somewhere to take John on his birthday. A little piece of history hidden away in London, interesting and not pricey to go aboard, I love visiting all the ancient bits of history we have around us.

Get lots of talks about Francis 'the privateer' Drake. Great to learn about what life was like then on board the Golden Hinde.
