Down St station is another disused underground sation (between Green Park and Hyde Park Corner on the Piccadilly Line which you can tour by booking through Hidden London (run by the Transport Museum in Covent Garden) It was unpopular almost as soon as it opened and closed in 1932. It was used as bunker during WWII mainly by the Railway Executive although Churchill was there for a short period. The station is creepy and absolutely filthy so dont wear nice clothes. These tours are very popular - despite the quite high price and you need to pounce as soon as booking opens. The tour staff and helpful and very informative. All the photos were taken by me during my own tour in Jan 2022.

Fascinating tour as there are two aspects to it. One is getting access to a disused station and the other is the conversion of it into an underground headquarters for wartime. Pricey but well worth it as it's in small groups.

This is a genuinely interesting tour, and I say that as someone who would not voluntarily go to a museum or seek out any sort of educational activity in my spare time. Yes, it is on the pricey side but that does keep the numbers down and deters the casual tourist, so it’s a small group of engaged people. The guides were great, especially Eeser who was very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. The floor was a bit wet at some points, and the handrails are filthy - don’t use them for support unless you want a sooty hand 🤣 but it’s certainly a unique experience. Only one suggestion for improvement, it would have been a nice touch to have been able to keep the little torches they provide, as that would have been a handy memento. Book before September 2023 as this tour has to close for two years to accommodate rail works nearby.

Very pricey for what it was (£90 per person). Felt a bit rushed to get through it all by the staff but they were polite and knowledgeable. I would go on another (cheaper) tour though.

Allow 1H45 for tour. Bring a brighter torch, although you are provided with one. Ticket allows you free entry into the Transport Museum at Convent Gardens. Will soon close for 2 years, so make so you visit in 2023.

Intriguing history of the tube and its wartime function but a bit overpriced in our view

Unique back in time tour. Great insight on WWII in a place where the events took place and is almost unchanged since then. It’s nice to be there and consider the Piccadilly Line passengers that commute over it everyday and do not even realise it exists.

It is an amazing once in a lifetime experience because you are not going to do it twice. However, for the price I would expect that it had been recreated as it was in wartime rather than derelict. It was good to see where Churchill and others ran the wartime railways. I needed to know where I was more explicitly in relation to the modern line so more maps and more explanation were needed as its disorienting down there. Also they lent you a small torch, I expected to keep that as a momentum. I suggest they watch 'Give em the Pickle' it felt mean at the price to take back the torch which would have been a good advertisement for them. Having said all of that I'm glad I did it and it included free entry to the Transport Museum which was great.

It's like a scoobydoo adventure a bit spooky and you find out how deep the rabbit Warren runs, the disused tunnels were closed down after WW2 so if there is ever an Alien invasion, this is the place to hide! this runs along with London Transport Museum tours and are worth it...

Brilliant tour. Lots to see and really interesting. Guides friendly and helpful. Be aware...Lots of stairs and some areas are poorly lit. My second hidden London tour and although this one is more expensive, I think it was worth it.

Some very dedicated and knowledgeable guides will take you down into this well kept piece of London Underground history. Make sure to wear study shoes and try not to touch the walls if you want to come out clean. The limited availability of tickets makes this something you must fight to go and see!
