Pro: - We were able to get an early check in at 10. - The location is perfect! Very central and with two underground station near. - Lobby and lounge area were majestic - There was a kettle coffee, tea and two bottles of water in the room - Water pressure was great. - Staff is always very kind and smiling. We were able to leave our luggages until 5pm (apparently they offer luggage storage until midnight, so big plus). Cons: - hotel didn't respond to messages sent a week earlier so we weren't able to find out if we could check in earlier until we got there. - The room (209) was very small but i guess it's normal for central London. The room wasn't the cleanest for a 4-star hotel. Ceiling near window was dirty, the lamp shade had dirt marks, there was a spider above the bed. View from the room was a dirty wall. - We couldn't understand how to work the water temperature. - There wasn't a mini fridge (but my fault for not checking) -the photos shown are quite deceiving cause wide-angle was used so rooms are actually smaller. Overall great stay, but rooms are small, need a good clean and refurbishment

Traveled here in 2019. Last stop before returning to the states. The lobby and first floor are beautiful. However, the view from our room was... disappointing. We were sub-level so our view was...well, the picture describes it better. The room was small and it was difficult to move around for two adults. Even harder to reorganize everything for the trip home. But we made due. The bathroom was right up against one side of the bed, tumble out and there you are. It was also serviceable however, there was no lip for the shower, so there was just water everywhere and there was nothing you could do about it. On the positive, it was close to food and shops and a great location for the last night of knocking around before heading home.

We went for a deluxe room and it was still ridiculously small. Specially the bathroom with a shower cabin so tiny, a 90kg person can hardly fit in. Apart from that all was good, room was tidy and the personal was friendly. We enjoyed our stay but thinking about the tiny shower cabin will make us smile for a long time :)

Grand and disappointing. While the feature pictures of the entrance and lounge rooms are very nice, the lower budget accommodation was very different. If you're aiming for a room where you are unable to fit a case between the bed and wardrobe, and a window smaller than A4 paper, then this is the place for you. Staff were not particularly interested in issues I had during my stay. My original room had an issue with a ceiling light which wouldn't turn off, which I was met with 'we're fully booked' and 'can't you sleep with a light on' before insisting they were going to discuss the issue with someone else. 40 minutes later I contacted reception again with someone who was unaware of the issue, before another member of staff visited and again played with all the switches. I was fortunately moved into a different room about 11pm, about an hour after reporting the issue. The second room was a fair bit larger, but felt as though I was in a sauna. Asked staff about it the next day and I was told they would be able to do it remotely and would bring a fan to the room. Staff were uninterested in looking at the temperature controller in the room and left the fan in the doorway. I'm glad I was here for work rather than paying for it myself. I nor any of my colleagues will be returning here.

As you walk into the hotel you are taken back by the beautiful decor and style of the lobby. However, the total experience was let down by many other factors. Firstly, as we walked in, everyone, including the staff would stare at you. When we approached the staff, they were quite short and rude. Second issue was the supposed "superior double" room. The room was definitely nothing like the pictures. Extremely decieving. There was nothing superior about it. The room was tiny, barely enough room for a couple. As you walk around the bed you have to turn side ways to squeeze into this side part of the room. The bath room was so small that the bath would not fit a grown man or woman. To pay this price for a closet type space is ridiculous, not to mention the "view" (see photo). Overall, this hotel really felt like a let down. The initial view as you walk in was gorgeous, but staff and room really let the whole experience down.

The hotel is situated only minutes from 2 different underground stations and 2 blocks from the Bog Bus Tours stop number 37. Plenty of dinning options - from fast food to full-service and fast casual. They don’t have laundry facilities, but there’s a self/service laundromat only 2 blocks away. The area is safe, quiet and very clean. The hotel has the old charm of the city, but yet beautiful and the rooms have been renovated. The ONLY thing we found it could be better, it’s the shower - it’s a small stall raised above the ground and it’s hard to get out - having said that, everything else was great! We will use this hotel when returning to London and strongly recommend to anyone looking for a nice place to stay during their visit to the city.

A weekend in London to visit Hyde Park for Winter Wonderland. The location of the hotel is great, but that's all. One of the worst London hotels I've stayed in - and for the price we paid that came as a shock. I'm baffled as to how this hotel is 4* rated. On arrival we were actually given a room upgrade to a 'Club Suite' which we were excited about. Until we got to the room and it was the size of a shoebox. I understand the size of London rooms too, I've stayed in small rooms elsewhere across the city but this was on another level. I can't imagine what our stay would've been like without the 'upgrade'. The bathroom was so compact you couldn't move in it, the sink was so small it was impossible to wash or fill up a bottle of water. The room was dirty, the facilities are massively outdated, the hairdryer melted, the bedding was horribly plastic-like. You can hear every movement and conversation outside in the corridor. The bar and on-site facilities all closed so this hotel it literally just extremely dated rooms the size of a cupboard. The images on the booking websites are so misleading it's a surprise they're allowed to get away with it. The staff weren't very welcoming and it seemed like everything was an inconvenience. This is the first negative review of a hotel I've ever written, but honestly feel hard-done by. I'd strongly suggest looking for another hotel.

The room smelled of dampness and mold. We were a travel group and had 3 rooms. Only ours stank. We called the house service, who came with a room spray but dismissed our concerns. Initially, he said it was probably due to the ventilation/heating, and we should just turn it off (December, -3 degrees Celsius outside, with bad windows). You could even see the dampness in the wall, the wallpaper was swollen in several places. Back at the lobby, the house service man even claimed he didn't smell anything in our room and that what we were saying was not true. What an incredible audacity! All fellow travelers smelled it, disgusting, and the worst part was that the window couldn't be opened. We were on the ground floor, and these were fixed glazings. They did not or could not offer us another room. The hotel was supposedly fully booked. The night was very unpleasant. Judging by the tables the next morning at breakfast, we can't believe the hotel was fully booked. 2/3 of the tables were unoccupied from 08:00 to 09:30. Strange for a fully booked hotel...

We booked three superior double rooms for one night (24/6/22). The rooms certainly weren’t those shown on the website and we were given rooms in the basement. Rooms were dark and dreary. Bathrooms were extremely small and it was a struggle to get in and out of the shower (despite the fact that we are all average weight). The curtain was hanging down in our room. This was reported but no action was taken. The hotel definitely did not demonstrate that it was anywhere near a four star hotel and we were all very disappointed. On reflection, we should have complained. We were all very tired after a long day of travel. We also paid top dollar rate for one night. I would not recommend this hotel. It was the worst hotel that I have ever stayed in .

Service was good, except they completely ignored my request at booking time for a high floor. Now I can understand it is a matter of availability, but giving me the lowest floor? Until now I haven't had a single hotel who couldn't comply with this request to some extent. So this one is the first. Breakfast was good but not very rich and hardly varying (I was there 6 days). Rooms might be ok for one person but very small for two. Personal bathroom also small. In this space, a shower would have been a better idea than a bathtub. No counter near the sink but only on the other side (weird). Location is amazing, near Hide Park and a tube in a minute walk. Indeed the Hotel is in a dated style but that is not a bad thing. Will probably not return.

Lovely staff. They were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and cute. Loved the whole decor of the hotel! ❤️ The breakfast was great too! Definitely a place to stay at when you are in London.

Rooms are small as expected, but clean and renovated. Quiet. Service was daily and did a good job. The hotel itself is a masterpiece of history. Great location, close to underground and bus stops, lots of restaurants, grocery stores and gift shops on a parallel street. Highly recommend. Would stay there again.

Certainly stayed at better places. Room was so small was unreal. Went for a shower and when the water hit my arse it then poured past the flimsy showerscreen onto the bathroom floor. Breakfast was very basic and not worth the £15.00 we were charged. Then to top it of there was no bar open " due to covid"

We came for a 2 day stay to go to winter wonderland, booked a ‘superior double room’ which was a tiny box room and hadn’t been cleaned! The images online are not like the hotel itself, the room was tiny. By the curtain was a packet of coke cola from the previous guests, as well as balloons by the cupboard. We told reception about this and they said a lady would come and clean our room. Their supervisor came to our room and inspected, said that it always happens!! ‘that the cleaner misses this part’ and put her finger along the wall to discover a layer of dirt and dust. The clean promised then never happened!, the coke and balloons still remained there for our stay. This is appalling during the Covid-19 pandemic and bad Customer service. They also said there is shampoo and conditioner which is not the case. When leaving they took our card and didn’t not ask how our stay was.

19/7/23 till 22/7/23 The hotel is quite dated. Staff depending on who's on only a couple were nice, some don't acknowledge you at all whether your coming in or checking out!! The room was so small it was a struggle to get into bed, very claustrophobic no room to move. There was no fan in the bathroom, it was one cluttered small room. We found it too far from city london & you have to be lucky to get a honest & decent taxi driver, who doesn't take you through every lane way & follow a bus till you end up paying triple the price!! Won't be going back nor will I recommend this hotel to anyone!!!

I stayed 8 nights and was very happy with the hotel. The lobby was beautiful and our room was nice. Always clean and although small it was comfortable. We stayed in a club room and I would recommend because after speaking with others I think we had more space. The location is about as good as it can get. Lots of places to eat near as well as two the stations and several bus stops. I would recommend staying here.

Ok so yeah the room was small it seems a lot of people are trashing this fact. But what you get for the price is amazing! Great location. Clean and well equipped room, staff are really lovely too. I'll definitely be staying again.

We stayed here one week. Very Victorian home turned into hotel. Rooms are nice. I had single room, very small but you’re only there to sleep! Shower had weird partial glass door, so taking shower got bathroom wet. Beautiful breakfast buffet included. Staff very nice centrally located in London. If you rent a car, though, parking is very limited. If you’re staying in London, it’s convenient and Hyde Park area is very nice. Took off one star due to parking issues.

Location is great for winter wonderland and the tube but that's where it ends. The hotel room was boiling and wouldn't cool down even with the windows open. The noise from either outside or other rooms was unacceptable and we ended up with bites on us out the room. Which resulted in several lumps and us going home a day early. I've spoken to the manager but now they have stopped communicating with me.

Walls are super thin so the wall and our bed were shaking all night due to our neighbors having "fun", wifi was pretty much non-existent. Sink did not have cold water. The shower didn't have any way to stop water from leaving the tub so spent quite a bit of effort to not flood the room, clearly an issue because all the tile on the floor was loose and sharp. Window leading outside was broken and held together by clear tape. Overall, we got what we paid for. Staff was friendly, room was clean, and the location was great.

This was the perfect stay! I really loved the location of the hotel and the staff was always so friendly anytime I saw them. The room was just perfect size for a solo visit. Considering I knew most of my time would be spent exploring the city, I enjoyed every second at the hotel! I will definitely be staying here for my next visit :)

Con: Rooms are extremely small, description of ‘deluxe double room’ does not match said room and is very deceiving. Room could be (a lot) cleaner. Pro: Location is good. 3 minutes walk from both Bayswater and Queensway station. Pro: helpful and friendly staff Con: £20 deposit per night which was not mentioned in the booking information

Honestly awful experience at this hotel. Stayed one night in a single room. The room was basically cut out of other rooms, was tiny (you could touch both sides of the room at the same time), and dirty. The carpets were stained, the bathroom was shoddy, there were holes patched up in the walls, and the door to the room was clearly an old door taken from elsewhere that did not quite fit into the frame somehow. Super noisy, next to lift with doors slamming all night. Location was fine, staff were fine, but do not recommend at all.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel, considering the price point and location - I was expecting run down and a tiny room in a service cupboard. What I got was a small, but adequate double room that was well decorated and comfortable in a wonderfully preserved old-world grand boutique-style hotel in central London. The staff were very friendly and keen to accommodate me, the bed was deliciously comfortable and the bathroom was adequate. I’ve already booked a room for my next London stay because this has raced to the top of my list for affordable London hotels.

Nice hotel with air-con in rooms. We had a club room with king bed and pull out sofa and, while the room is small, we had plenty of space. Robes, slippers, and toiletries provided. We had a couple issues during our 3 night stay that were very promptly addressed; these are the reason I gave 4 stars for the room. There’s an issue with the cold water: there is none at first. In fact the water is so hot it should be a liability concern for the hotel. We called the front desk and maintenance was sent up within minutes. All he did was run the tap and shower until the water ran cool. So we had to go through this process each time we showered. Also our power outlets stopped working one day but that was also promptly corrected. Breakfast is very good. Staff are nice and attentive. Hotel is within a couple minute walk to Bayswater tube, couple more minutes to Queensway tube. This location is very quiet. I do recommend this hotel.

Lovely historical building with polite and helpful staff...very good location. Room was small and tired looking..in need of a re-fresh. It appears that the management have little time to look after the building and judt want to take the money. Breakfast was average...nothing special, but acceptable. No way a 4 star...3 star at best.

Good value hotel with easy access to Tube services and Hyde Park location. I stayed here whilst visiting Winter Wonderland and enjoyed my 1 night here. I found check in to be quick aswell as checkout as everything was paid for already. Recommend on value and easy access to locations.

  • 1/5 Lin S. 4 months ago on Google
Staff is SO rude and disrespectful. I was shocked at how I was treated; it almost felt like they were doing me a favor and not like I was paying a hefty amount for my stay. I wouldn't recommend this place even for those on a budget. Try a different place in the area or in Kensington. You'll get a better bang for your buck and will likely be treated much better, with at least basic/minimum respect.

Room was available much earlier than check in time specifies and the front desk were very welcoming, sending someone to help me to my room with my luggage. The room was very comfortable, compact and had everything that I needed for my short stay. The only snag worth mentioning with my room specifically was the tiny fixed glass shower screen is simply inadequate for preventing water going across the room - this is an easy fix should the hotel wish to address it. The location could not be more convenient for going to the city with the Queensway tube station on the very next street - this takes you on the central line straight into the city centre in <15 mins and around 4 stops. The area is also full of cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and various other small businesses. The hotel is also <15 min walking from Paddington station where the Heathrow express train departs and trains to other regions such as Oxford arrive and depart. The hotel has traditional charm and offers extremely good value for money and convenience. I will return in the future!

Let me start with the positives - great service, the person in the reception as well as the other personnel were really nice and friendly. Luggage store - they provided the service 2 times, both before the check-in and after the check out. Location - fantastic location as two nearby stations, Bayswater and Queensway were only 3 minutes walk, additional KFC, Subway, Super market, five guys were in walking distance. The bed was comfortable, and they provided free water, tea, and biscuits. Negatives - I paid 204 pounds for two nights stay (Sunday and Monday), and i booked a superior deluxe room. But sorry to say, from no point of view, it looked like a super delay room. The room was small compared to what I expected, and it felt really unfortunate to enter the room as the door could not be fully open because of the cupboard. The worst experience and the main reason of 2 stars - the bathroom was really very much tiny, it is for sure perfect for kids below 10 but for a grown up man like me, I found the bathroom really small. The toilet was so close to the bathtub and basin. It was really uncomfortable, small, and spoiled the mood of staying in a hotel to a great extent. I am honest. It had some positives, as mentioned, but considering the negatives, I would never stay in this hotel again. So my recommendation would be to read my comments and decide whether you would like to stay here or not.

I have stayed at many hotels in this area, and this is the best considering what you pay for, and what you get. My daughter was here last week and got a smaller room on first floor. I usually order on the hotels home site, I cutt the middle man, and usually get a better deal. I got breakfast for free and a room on the fifth floor with a street view. Very clean room , a bit small, luxurious finish, nice bathroom. Beautiful dining room for breakfast. Oh yes, this is my hotel.

Stayed at the Grand Royale recently. Free baggage check (if early check-in is unavailable), breakfast is included, and the location is very nice (minute or two walk to the central line). The room and bathroom were small compared to American standards, but as a smaller person it was fine for me. To address some other reviews, the room was very clean and the shower had full walls (though it was a bit cramped). Staff were friendly and accommodating. The price was reasonable and there were a ton of guests coming and going. Don't bank on getting early check-in, that's the way it goes sometimes

The staff were amazing. Receptionist, bar staff, waiters. All staff were great. The breakfast was very nice. Had everything you would expect. The rooms were its downfall. We had a Clubman on the 7th floor. Twin beds. But far to close together! Basically touching! Was very comfortable for us work colleagues. It was amazing how they managed to get bath, shower (over bath) toilet and sink in such a tiny area. A man has to lean to the left to go to the toilet due the eves of the roof. The shower screen is tiny, due to the size of the room which means the floor, actually everything gets covered with water after the first person has a shower! I get it, you don’t come to London to stay in your room BUT……. Very small room! The bar area is small too! Strange area in fact. Looks like a converted theatre

Very decent place for what it's priced. Great location. Right next to Central line and Kensington Palace and ofcourse Hyde Park. The architecture and lobby takes you back in time. Rooms were decent as well. I see a lot of people complaining about small rooms, maybe I got lucky :)

Great Hotel for the family, our plans were cancelled due to Corona virus this December 2021. Instead we decided to spend Christmas in London and enjoy a week at the Grand Royale. Great service, amazing rooms (Always cleaned) and comfortable beds as well. only improvement I would say are the towels for the rooms. Everything was 100/100 Would go back again.

Very small rooms with peeling headboard but gorgeous atmosphere in common areas. Decent buffet breakfast. No cold water on the last day and front desk didn't seem concerned when I reported it. Also, didn't receive bath mat or hand towels on last day.

Unbeatable value for money, though I booked a deluxe double room which was on the small side. I wonder how much smaller other rooms could be. Also, I did reject the first room on a lower level (underground?) and the second room (on the ground floor). The third room offered was great. The staff was professional and helpful, even agreed to refund the prepaid breakfast I no longer needed. The common spaces are beautiful, including the breakfast area. The breakfast itself is varied and delicious. The location is not in the middle of the hustle and bustle, which is not a bad thing. The proximity to Hyde Park must be a huge plus at warmer times of the year. Two tube stations are nearby. I’d definitely stay there again.

Remember to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking a resort. This website will compare thousands of hotel sites and normally will have rates a lot cheaper compared to others! Thank me later! Sorry guys rooms need some work, extremely tiny room and this was a larger club room, almost no room to walk down the side of the bed, wallpaper peeling off, shower screen to small to be effective so water everywhere. Soundproof rooms as long as there is no one in the rooms next to you. Breakfast was good nice selection but kids juice cartons come on, no jugs of juice, polite staff and good location for hyde park.

Having booked online I wanted to make changes to my reservation. I have since emailed on three occasions with no response and called several times a day with no luck that way either. As a former hotelier I understand that the job can be demanding but its been over a week and I have had no response and as such have had to cancel my reservation. I have no idea how comfortable the beds are or what the rest of the service is like but I'd be hesitant to use this hotel in future given I have had zero in the way of customer service so far.

Great location for Hyde park. Not a view of the park, but also off the main road, so not too much noise. Reception staff were very polite and friendly. Room was small, but everything worked. Bed was comfortable and everything was clean and tidy. Good pressure in the shower and nice soaps

I have been staying in this beautiful, centrally located, and well managed hotel for well over a decade. My experience at the Grand Royale has been magnificent every time (including during my week-long stay this month.) The rooms are always clean; the food at breakfast excellent; the dining staff courteous and helpful; the porters friendly and solicitous; and the manager a model of professionalism. Yes, some of the rooms are small – and, yes, the hotel is lovingly worn – but this is a hotel with rare character, with preserved Edwardian architecture; a hotel located directly across from Kensington Gardens and within easy reach of three tube stops and a host of restaurants and stores. In decades of travel to London, I have not found a small boutique hotel as homey as the Grand Royale London Hyde Park.
