Probably one of the best hostels in London. We booked a private room for 4 with bathroom but we reviewed a free upgrade to a 6 bedroom because of some maintenance activities going on the other. Staff was very gentle and helpful. The hostel has a bar which seems opened all day and a buffet for breakfast. You can have continental or full English breakfast at reasonable prices. The place is clean, rooms quiet and well maintained.

A complete review with some tips for travellers: Excellent service, condition of rooms, showers, hygiene and cleanliness. The beds are single-sized beds. There are elevators and that makes a difference. There is a large living room area at ground floor level, where there are charging sockets and tables and chairs to eat in. You can bring your own food and eat in. They also serve their own hot and cold food during the hours that they cook and serve food. The keys are regular metal keys with a keyring to your room number. I never completely liked electric cards,in my own personal view. Am glad YHA kept the keys 'traditional'. Regular metal keys are so much better than plastic cards! There are sockets located next to every bed, with a rather odd looking small 'tray' with short edges on the sides, to hold your mobile phone whilst charging. Tip: If your phone is bigger than that then you'll have to lie down next to a larger sized- bag, so as not to lose your phone whilst sleeping or drop it down on the floor. This is also handy when charging up your laptop. I tie the bag straps around the metal frame of the bed, which keeps it in place whilst am sleeping. Each guest has an MDF locker, roomy enough to have small (cabin sized) to medium sized suitcase, plus other things can fit in altogether, so quite a roomy and handy locker to have. Tip: You can tie your clothes around the metal frame of the bed, if you don't feel like opening your suitcase and rummaging for your clothes that you are planning to wear. I sleep next to my tied-up clothes, as they lie flat next to me, upon the bed, and am fine. Just make sure that they don't dangle down towards the person sleeping below you, if you happen to sleep in the upper part of the bunk bed. Tip: You can buy the padlock from the reception area downstairs. £2. Padlock isn't waterproof, as it gets rusty when water touches it. Shower rooms have small hooks as far as I recall, with metal bars for you to fold your towel upon them. Please be aware that in some shared rooms, there isn't always a table. In the room I stayed in, there were a couple of chairs and a couple of padded square seats in the room, but no table in the all-female room that I stayed in. Tip: Always pull the curtains as night falls, as when the day comes, the light can wake you up, especially early in the British summery mornings! One guest forgot to do that and woke up several guests. So a sleeping mask for the eyes would be of benefit. Sleeping ear plugs too, if you are sensitive to sound. (Some females snore lol!) Hahahaa! I would suggest to YHA not to have the curtains positioned in a way that people cannot reach to close it. One curtain was like that and woke some guests up from their sleep. Tip: I place shower items in a plastic zip lock bag (shampoo, liquid hand soap and conditioner bottles) and after I am done with showering myself, I place my shower items in the plastic zip lock bag and that way, avoid having my other items in my suitcase get wet. Thank-you kindly, YHA. Please do keep up the good work and thank-you to all the team that helps it remain a comfortable and safe place to stay in. Enjoy your stay here, I have for many years and will continue to return to it. ❤️❤️❤️

Disappointing visit to the YHA, water was barely warm and extremely low pressure for the first three days and two nights, despite pressing staff, it was hard work talking with them and we felt that they really didn't want to deal with it. We were eventually told that it's because we were higher up in the building and that it was normal. Slight improvement on the third day, but nothing significant. Not enjoyable at all. The tap remained barely warm. Towels are extra, no bath mat, nor any hand towel for the bathroom, for a private ensuite room paying up to 130 a night, it would have made a big difference to have some basics which would have cost the hostel little to nothing. The bathroom fan was so loud (literally think of an aeroplane level of noise, no exaggeration!) it would wake anyone up if you wanted the loo in the night. If you are on the top of a bunk bed and are 6ft 1 or over, you can't lie flat as it isn't long enough. Cleaners tried to come in whilst we were changing clothes even after we shouted no, they aren't supposed to during the stay, not sure what they were up to, I'd assume it was just a mistake but it was inappropriate. Shower curtain mouldy and needs cutting back so that it goes inside the shower, whoever fitted it didn't have the common sense to realise that if it hangs outside the ledge to the floor, then water will pour all over the rest of the bathroom floor! I might be wrong and happy to be corrected, but the luggage room didn't seem to have any CCTV for the belongings. The lounge and communal areas downstairs are abysmal and not up to the standard of any hostel, an absolute dump. Much higher standards at other hostels for similar prices, we made a mistake and I'd advise anyone reading this to look for a more central, better equipped hostel even if you're paying more.

Nice value for money. NO towels. Nice location. Check out at 10 am is very early and not convenient for someone who stayed up late the previous night.

We enjoyed our stay here. It was very clean and the dorm for 6 people was quite spacious. It was better than expected. Sadly we slept rather poorly because the rooms were very warm. The heat was on max it seemed and we could not turn it off. I would come back, but ask the staff to do something about the heat. The staff was friendly but sadly there was so luggage room, so you have to pay for a locker.

The place was clean and the rooms were very nice for a hostel. There were plug sockets and lights next to each bed and lights on the top bunks. There was also a fan and a window we could open which was good considering it was a very hot weekend. The staff were relatively friendly and the hostel is well priced. There's also and outside seating area and a sort of cafe bit where you can get drinks and food

It was a nice place with nice food and accommodations, however, in my room(310) our bathroom sounded like a screaming camel. As well as that, it gets quite hot very quick. However, it was a nice place to stay.

Lovely accommodation, the staff were helpful on giving us the best routes for the best places in London. We originally booked a three-bunk bed room, but as the en-suite rooms were free so she upgraded us for free. The kitchen had many appliances but it was quite small and cramped and there were limited seating. Next to the kitchen there was a small room with sofas, books and TV, this was clean. Also the WiFi didn't work in the rooms and only worked downstairs in the lounge area. Overall the accommodation was lovely and would go again.

Our experience at the Thames-side London youth hostel was below par. The private room for three lacked fundamental amenities like phone holders on bunk beds and, notably, there were no hangers/ holders for coats or towels. The showers were substandard with inconsistent hot water and low pressure. The so-called lounge was essentially a basement room with a sofa. Despite the commendable staff, the overall stay was disappointing due to these essential shortcomings. Beddings were basic as well. It is a hostel I understand but I have stayed in better hostels with exceptional services.

Great value and location with very friendly staff. Stayed in a ensuite private room. Was very clean. Only negatives were the shower: the basin of which needed replaced/ repaired as it was coming away from the walls, on my last day the water was at best lukewarm and the water pressure wasn't great. However, this didn't detract too much from my experience as a whole

Really good place to stay with a family in London. It's a fairly modern purpose built hostel so lots of choice on room sizes. A good breakfast too

I recently had the pleasure of staying at YHA hostel, and I must say it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and friendliness by the staff, who went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Shout out to Tracy & Gemma, amazing staff. The hostel's cleanliness is exceptional; I found my room and the shared spaces to be spotless at all times. The comfortable beds ensured a good night's sleep, and the security measures in place gave me peace of mind throughout my stay. What truly sets this hostel apart is the sense of community it fosters. The common areas are designed for social interaction, making it easy to meet fellow travelers. I made new friends from around the world while cooking in the well-equipped kitchen or relaxing in the cozy lounge. The location couldn't be better. It's centrally located, within walking distance of major attractions, restaurants, and public transportation. This made exploring the city incredibly convenient. I also appreciated the thoughtful amenities, like free Wi-Fi, lockers, and a variety of tours and activities organized by the hostel. The staff's local knowledge and willingness to offer recommendations enriched my travel experience. In summary, this hostel is a shining example of what a hostel should be. It combines affordability, comfort, cleanliness, and a vibrant community atmosphere to create a memorable and enjoyable stay for travelers. I can't wait to return and make more wonderful memories here. Highly recommended!

YHA Thameside is the BEST! I cannot recommend this place enough. The staff here are truly the kindest people and make sure you are comfortable and happy every single day. Their customer service is top notch and they always had such a positive attitude! The beds are comfortable with nice linens provided. The bathrooms are in the rooms and are deep cleaned every day. House keeping cleaned the rooms, bathrooms, hallways, and stairwells every day. The common areas (lobby, bar area, kitchen, shared kitchen) are very clean as they also vacuum and mop every day. You are provided with refrigerators and storage space for your groceries. As well as a fully equipped kitchen with all the kitchen supplies you would need to make your own food. The breakfast is a delicious, proper english breakfast along coffee, tea, juices, cereal, fruit, oatmeal, etc. You can book group dinners or purchase individual dinners for such a good price! The kitchen staff is wonderful and makes the best food! As a solo female traveler- the location was perfect for me. It is right along the Thames with a view of the city. Close to a bus station and two tube stations for easy access to the city. Rotherhithe is a very safe neighborhood and I always felt safe walking late at night. It is a quick walk to the Canada Water shops where you can drink, eat, buy groceries, and shop. Or a quick walk to Canary Wharf that is a modern business district with a large mall, many restaurants/bars/coffee shops. I had a long stay here at YHA Thameside and it truly felt like home! Thank you!!

I booked via Revolut and instead of a 6-bed room we got a 10-bed-room. Anyways we got to know nice Polish friends with whom we were in the same room, had to down a couple shots of Jäger with them cause "Polak wegier dwa bratanki...". The rooms were rather average. Minimalistic, but tidy and clean. Two small showers, two toilets. USB outlets. You can buy adapters and lock for the lockers for a few pounds, like 3-4 GBP. Otherwise staff was really nice. There's a small café and they also serve breakfast in the morning. Towel renting for 3 GBP. Free water station at the entrance. Really nice location, small walks around in the neighborhood very much advised. Also local pub visits and the nearby Cloudwater taproom.

Super clean and nice. A bit more of a walk than Google maps makes it feel like. You'll get a super newer hostel. Plus being near the water and almost have that feeling you're outside of the city at night. Maybe not the best location if you need to be in central London everyday but perfect for just about anyone else.

We were grateful for the 24-reception, as our train was very delayed, and we arrived about 2.30am. We had a very friendly and helpful welcome from the reception staff, including stamping our book of hostels visited. The hostel is only 5 minutes walk from Rotherhithe station, from where you can get to central London quickly by overground, DLR or tube.

Fun hostel. Definitely geared towards a younger crowd. Wifi is throughout the whole building but is best in the lobby. Beds are standard, rooms seem spacious. Bathroom is good enough, although the showers are not tall person friendly. Has excellent charging options for electronics. It's been a godsend for my phone's battery. The location is also excellent in terms of access to easy transit.

Amazing! Great location, very clean, modern rooms and excellent breakfast. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is also a bar at which you can order food and drinks. You can lock your bicycles away safe in a small shed. Absolutely recommendable!

Great location and clean, pleasant room with views of river and city. Reasonably priced lockers to leave our luggage so we could explore before checking in. Lovely, friendly staff. Extractor fan in bathroom could have been more effective.

Dinner is ok, with a salad bar and pudding included. The bar/cafe is good value for money. Breakfast is superb. All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially considering we had a group of 40 children with us! The rooms are a good size with comfortable beds. On hot nights the room was quite warm, but they do provide a fan.

Great location, inexpensive. Not the nicest accommodations, but great value for the price. Stayed here with my wife & 4 kids. It was fun to give them the hostel experience. Breakfast was good as well.

Clean, nice breakfast, and lots of space in rooms. Some of the facilities eg. showers are looking a bit run down, and not every guest sticks to the no noise between 11pm-7am (which is understandably difficult to enforce). For the price it's great as a base to sleep.

Lovely place, quiet room even though we we were facing the road. Beds are nice, fresh clean bedding, and very little sounds from the hallway. The area around the hostel is quiet and nice, green areas all around, 15 min walk from Canada Water underground. Stay here and pay way less for the same quality than you would somewhere closer to the city centre.

My worst hostel experience to date: Had to pay nearly 3 pounds for an extra towel. Rooms were extremely hot and uncomfortable. Bedding is like a plastic material that just makes you sweat profusely. There were NO working electrical outlets at all in our room. The lock on the window was broken so it was always just perpetually open. The shower was small, and the water temperature was very inconsistent. The toilet wouldn’t flush properly or wouldn’t flush at all. And the walls are very thin, you can pretty much hear what the entire floor is doing. Did not enjoy my stay.
