Incredibly noisy and disruptive. Every week on Friday, Saturdays, Sundays, people are yelling in the common areas or in their rooms and banging on people's doors. The management team here does nothing, no fines, no warnings are issued and this behaviour is effectively endorsed. Doesn't help that the windows and doors have gaps and block out no sound at all, I can hear people's conversations 5 doors down, with both doors closed. If you're thinking about this accommodation, read these comments, then think again.

I have to agree with almost each one of the bad comment here. And on top of those, i would like to add another one which i believe is something that all international students care about the most - the attitude of management team towards racial discrimination. I experienced racial discrimination the first time here, thanks to Chapter Old Street. As a Chinese, me and my friends who live here put on stickers that represent Chinese culture during Chinese New Year and they were torn down by someone living here. From the photos you can see it was by no means an accident but done on purpose. And our doors with those stickers on them got banged on during not just midnight but also midday, which made it certain that it was not just someone got drunk and did it randomly. Despite we wrote several emails to and had a face-to-face meeting with the management team asking them to deal with it, and despite the promises they gave us, they did not let us check the security camera nor did they send any emails telling the residents how unbearable this behavior is whatsoever. I don’t think it is a good place to stay for us international students because obviously this place is not inclusive enough for its residents to celebrate festivals from different cultures. I cannot believe I’ve wasted my money on accommodation like this for a year. My advise for anyone who’s considering this accommodation is: DON’T. It does not deserve your money.

To those of you who don’t want to read the whole review, the moral of my story is that you should avoid this place like the plague. Chapter couldn’t care less about student wellbeing and customer service, all they care about is money money money. The facilities are incredibly limited and worn down, they put no effort into their social events, and you could find nicer and quieter rooms at the nearest psychiatric hospital. Save your money and sanity and pick another student accommodation instead or share a flat with your friends. Firstly, the management at Chapter are some of the most cowardly and insensitive people I have met. My laptop was stolen at reception nearly 7 months ago while I was away on holiday. Approximately three weeks after the incident occurred I ask the manager to check the cctv footage, she waited over a week to finally check and then told me that the cctv couldn’t retrieve footage over a month old. How convenient. I then started the gruelling six month process, which is still ongoing, of asking the Chapter team to look into the situation and find the person who stole my laptop. They continuously ignored my emails and my calls, and still are, and would feed me lies and false hopes when I asked about it in person. 7 months later and nothing has come of the “investigation”, I am still without a laptop and the funds to replace them. Secondly, the noise levels in your room are unbearable. Of the 9 months I lived there, the only days I could sleep peacefully were when the construction stopped on Sundays and thats if I was lucky enough to not have drunk people yelling outside my window. I emailed the team about this and they said that the noise would tone down in two weeks, which surprise suprise it didnt, and they wouldn’t allow me to move rooms. I eventually had to leave to live with a friend because I couldn’t handle the noise and lack of sleep. And yes, 9 months later the construction noise is still ongoing so unless you want to wake up feeling like you’re in the front line trenches of WW1, avoid staying here. Lastly, I can’t emphasise enough how much of a rip off this place is for the horrible facilities it offers. First of all, they claim to have all these social events but they will always cancel or “reschedule” them last minute because they’re understaffed. The only events you’ll be getting here is a plastic fold out table with tea and cookies once every other month. Secondly, the rooms resemble more of a highway motel than a student accommodation that charges 360 pounds and over per week. The shower was filled with mold when we arrived, we had to clean it with bleach ourselves, and the beds gave me back pains they were so incredibly small, thin, and springy. My friend stayed over and got a literal bruise from the protruding springs. And to the Chapter member that’s going to reply to this review, don’t even bother. Nothing you say can cover up how badly managed this place is and the other reviews vouch for it, and no I will not send you my feedback via email because you just won’t reply!!

Great location, the rooms are spacious and well arranged. However if you want a decent night of sleep, go elsewhere. The rooms facing the courtyard are unbearable: people just gather there at night to shout, listen to loud music with speakers and smoke weed. The courtyard is supposed to close at 11pm (tho when I booked I was told 10pm) and security is supposed to clear the place but they never do. Students living there are so noisy and disrespectful to others: phone calls in the middle of the night in the corridors, loud music at night and during the day, doors are being slammed all day long. Management team doesn't care about issues you may raise (people screaming in the corridors, cleaning not done...). The hygiene is not ok at all : on the first floor there has been big vomit stains for more than 1 months (which I reported), the laundry room ceiling is crumbling because of mould, the walls are just so damaged in the common areas. The trash area is awful. The cleaning in the common areas is poorly done. Other issues I faced started on the day I moved in: the mattress was broken and I had to switch myself from another room because reception was too busy, and the cleaning was poorly done in the studio, it was still smelling of cigarette and the floor was dusty. The microwave broke down the next day. There was a leak coming from the kitchen sink. I had to contact maintenance countless of times because of the shower pipes being blocked due to bad maintenance in the building. Lifts are always out of order, the automatic lights in the corridors don't work... Also, I registered to the student portal to get emails/info but I never received anything and ended-up with maintenance entering my studio without me knowing to change some lights or do other building maintenance. This is unbelievable. About the laundry service, it is a scam: managed by Circuit, they take a huge sum of money for the washing-machines/dryers and it is not working properly: clothes get damaged and their refund process is horrible and lengthy, the machines are so dirty and the clothes come out dirtier than when put in there before washing... Also it's good to mention there is a club with a rooftop facing the residence and when they put music up there you can't sleep. There was no proper check out. I left the room cleaner and in better conditions than when I moved there a year ago. Overall, not a good experience which is a shame because rooms are good.

Chapter Old St. is a total win! 🏡 Location: Prime Shoreditch - close to everything cool! Rooms: Modern, chic, and comfy. Staff: Super friendly and on it! Safety: They have a 24/7 reception service. Events: competitions, festive nights and so on – fun galore! Verdict: Homey vibes + city buzz. Highly recommend! 👍

I have stayed with chapter for two years and I have had a lovely time here. Overtime the management has changed and now they don’t care what’s happening. They charge massive rent and then have construction going on everyday starting at 8 am even on the weekends. No one responds to the emails you send. Would avoid the place because you can never get a good night sleep anymore and no one to actually respond and resolve issues

The day I arrived (I advised via mail that I was going to be late on a Sunday) I had to wait for more than half an hour as the receptionist had not been advised that I was arriving there. I showed him the email several times until he decided to call the manager (who needed to check several things). I also have to say that it was late (10 pm on Sunday and I still did not know if I was going to sleep in the bed I had already paid for months ago). After that, when I arrived at the room I found a really thin mattress and a terrible shower, which I asked to repair but it pressure was still very bad. The laundry was expensive and terrible, the place was very dirty (as the floor of the corridors which are quite disgusting due to liquid from garbage). Getting into the laundry thing was also tedious, but finally, I managed to get a card to top it up and pay for the laundry. I find it very expensive when I think about the price I paid for the place.

Poor service. Electricity and internet is always cut off without any compensation. You can't imagine when everything in your room need electricity, the only thing you can do is sitting there at midnight or in the morning...

I thoroughly enjoyed our time at Chapter Old Street. They offer great amenities and the reception team, including Jonathan, Daniel, William, and David, contributed to an amazing experience with their exceptional service and friendliness. This truly was a great chapter at chapter.

Facilities are good. Really bad ongoing noise problem from people socialising after 11pm in the courtyard between the two buildings. Have raised this issue to the building management several times but seems like they haven't done anything effective to resolve the issue.

You will regret if you live here. The sound of construction around is very noisy. Construction on time every Monday to Saturday at 8:00 a.m.

This accommodations in the perfect area, right on the edge of zone 1. The building itself is lovely and maintained perfectly by the kind cleaners. The reception team are always accommodating and happy to help. I’ve had a great stay so far and couldn’t recommend more.

Extremely disorganised and unprofessional service for this price range. Management team replies only until you make the payments and refusing to handle any problem. Waiting for a refund since February, managers are coming up with excuses for avoiding to complete a simple refund I am entitled to. No record of payments in their system, no record of move out dates. Extremely unprofessional company.

My room was not cleaned properly when I arrived. There are also broken furniture. My neighbours were extremely noisy. I reported noise problem during night hours (like 1-3 AM) over tens times and nothing has changed. These students acted like their room is a dance floor — singing, dancing, screaming at night.

These people don’t let us use the facilities available. The table football and the table tennis are in the common room but they lock the room at 12? That’s completely unreasonable since we don’t disrupt anybody. What’s the point of pretending to have good facilities if you don’t let people use them? Not worth the money... AVOID

“No water No Wifi” is absolutely true. I waited so long last night for the water. And they don't even pick up the phone when I call the maintenance team to fix this problem at 10:30pm. When I woke up this morning, there is no WiFi around the whole building. And I write this comment 4hrs later because it is still not working.

Unfortunately I had the worst booking experience up until William assisted me and was patient enough to cater to exactly my room preferences. He was outstandingly helpful and extremely polite. William seems like a hard-working person who actually wants to help out. Usually i don't write reviews but I honestly think he fully deserves it.

The worst place to stay! The lift hasn’t been working since the past 4 days and everyday the staff gives fake hopes that it would work and we are working on it but the fact is they aren’t. I stay on the sixth floor imagine using the stairs for 4 days!

We have been staying here for almost 2 months, and unfortunately we got Covid and feel very sick. Thus we have to order foods and groceries. Unfortunately, even though we have notified that we are tested positive covid, the receptionists do not want to help to either allowing the delivery man to deliver our orders to our unit, nor helping us to get it delivered upstairs. When I informed them we are positive covid and feel unwell that could not pick up the deliveries, they responded back that as the isolation is no longer required for anyone who tested positive for covid, they asked us just go downstairs to pick up the foods/deliveries. Can they at least put some HUMANITY? We are not well enough to pick up the deliveries downstairs so at least they let the driver/delivery man to go upstairs? and it is to my surprise that apparently they don't care if some one positive covid accessing public areas/facilities within this building : ( Whilst we understand their policy for the receptionist not supposedly help to deliver to the unit and for not allowing third party delivery courrier/driver to deliver to the unit, but can't they give some exemption under certain conditions ie when the tenants are sick? Does it mean that if we are staying in this place, get sick and not well enough to pick up our order, then we have to wait until we get our friend come to help us? Last week as we couldn't pick up the deliveries downstairs and the receptionist refused to help, thus I said should you then throw away those deliveries? and guess what, we never received nor found those deliveries..

Alright guys: First things first, if you are going to London for a quite time and no noise, you shouldn't go to London at all, y'all. Second, if you think, you get bomb-ass big rooms in London; again reconsider your choice going to London once more. I can recommend the accomodations from the bottom of my heart, I had a great time over there! I went on my own and it was a blast! The rooms were clean when I arrived and it was so modern. I forgot to bring an adapter with me and the staff borrowed one with no charge, even offered me to have it. Also ask for a blow dryer, if you didn't brought one with you, like silly me did. The roof top was amazing. The view was amazing, you could even see the Shard building. Overall, I had an awesome stay.

Jan 24th 2020 - I really enjoyed the Bubble tea & Hot Pot event at Chapter Old Street. Starting with the warm welcome from Sherwin, I got to meet new people and eat good free home-made food! I look forward to other events with more people too (especially if it involves with food)!

The worst house! The reception never reply emails. If the reception asks you something, they will ignore your needs and send you an new email about their needs. And too much rubbish in the building. The noise around you. The parcel is never collected immediately .

A really enjoyable experience living at Chapters Old Street so far. The customer experience is second to none. The staff is extremely friendly (shoutout to William and Jonathan) and have readily assisted me in several occasions. The facilities at the accomodation are top notch and the resident community is quite tight knit. One of the best student accomodations in London and would definitely recommend to anyone attending university in Central and East London.

Visited a newly moved in nephew from China. I was really impressed with the quality. More like a hotel than a student residence. I would recommend to anyone sending their young person to study in London. Its location (10 mins walk from Liverpool Street Station) is superb as well!

Very friendly and helpful staff, but the most common sentence of the staff was 'I'm so sorry'... The fridge was all wet cause the freeze was totally full of ice, the microwave was broken, the toaster was missing, the housekeeping didn't visit our room not once while our stay, the room keys stopped working while our stay.. For our purpose the room was quite ok and suitable, but only after several requests from us. Very good location, easy to reach by bus and underground. Thanks for the staff to be so friendly and helpful! Thanks for letting us have the room before basic check-in time!

I stayed at Chapter Old Street in July 2021. The team is the most helpful and welcoming. Maria especially was so quick to communicate with and thanks to her I was able to book a room for the next week. The building is located really close to Liverpool Street and Old Street stations which is very convenient and allows you to access almost all London Underground lines. The neighbourhood is very nice and within walking distance of Shoreditch (Brick Lane, Spitafields Market) as well as the City of London. The facilities are very well maintained. I would recommend it for anyone looking for accommodation in the area.

Had the nicest stay at Chapter Old Street. I definitely recommend. Rooms and amenities are very good, and the location is perfect. However, what made my stay so pleasant was the way I was treated by the staff. I've been around much, and I have never been treated like I was treated by William. His level of professionalism is outstanding.

I had an amazing experience staying at this accommodation from September 2022 to September 2023. It truly felt like a second home thanks to the wonderful amenities, including the fantastic location, well-appointed rooms, and beautiful courtyard and rooftop areas. Jonathan and William were the best receptionists. Both were always welcoming and ready to assist with any maintenance or general issues 24/7. Their hospitality made all the difference, and I couldn't have been happier. Highly recommend this place, a student accommodation couldn’t be better.
