If there's one word that encapsulates my experience at 'Grind' in London, it's "contrasts." From the tantalizing flavors of the breakfast dishes to the frustrating service hiccups, this restaurant offers both the highs and lows that make for an interesting dining adventure. Let's start with the surroundings. As I stepped into Grind, I was immediately struck by the vibrant energy and sleek decor. However, the unfortunate construction noise from the surrounding areas and the constant drilling and crane operating sounds were like an unwelcome symphony that disrupted what could have been a more peaceful dining atmosphere. It's worth noting that the management might have little control over this, but it did impact my overall experience. The servers, on the other hand, seemed to be grappling with the chaos around them. Breakfast hours are meant to set a positive tone for the day, but it was evident that the staff were overwhelmed, even at this early hour. A bit more organization and preparedness would go a long way in enhancing the service quality. Despite reminding them politely multiple times, we had to wait for cutlery, water, and extra plates, which can be quite frustrating. Now, let's delve into the culinary journey. The full breakfast, pancakes, and French toast were undeniably the stars of the show. The chef's prowess in the kitchen was evident as each dish was a symphony of flavors and textures that tantalized my taste buds. However, the brilliance of these dishes was overshadowed by the steep price tag that accompanied them. While I'm more than willing to pay for quality, the prices felt a bit too rich for a standard breakfast outing. It's worth mentioning that our bill left us with some sticker shock – a hefty 150 pounds for a breakfast for five is undoubtedly a steep investment. While I appreciate fine dining experiences, I also believe that the balance between quality and value should be upheld. In conclusion, 'Grind' has its charms and its challenges. The delectable breakfast offerings are a testament to the kitchen's skill, but the service struggles and the disruptive construction noises did put a damper on the overall experience. I hope that the management takes heed of the feedback and takes steps to improve both the service efficiency and the dining ambiance. With a bit of refining, 'Grind' has the potential to shine even brighter in London's bustling culinary scene.

Popped in here for a quick oat flat white. Absolutely beautiful interior and vibes inside. Was an absolutely beautiful cup of coffee as well, perfect temperature and taste. Can't wait to come back once seating is allowed again in May and grab some cocktails too. Support your independent local coffee shops! Great coffee and food. I’ve loved this place since I moved here 10 years ago but what was exceptional was the service from our waitress Roda who was incredibly kind, friendly and attentive when we needed to customize our orders. She’s probably the best server I’ve ever had- she made our visit on this occasion extra special :) I would highly recommend the grilled cheese, I had the breakfast burrito which was also delicious but it was premade so hard to customize. It gets busy at peak hours so expect to queue. Hope to come back soon and try more things on the menu!

Wonderful place, love it so much. Always lively, always buzzing. Kind and welcoming staff, great food, great coffee. Always a mood boost whenever I pop in for a takeaway coffee or a brunch.

As a Grind coffee subscription fan, stepping into their space was a treat. Super chill atmosphere, top-notch coffee, and delightful nibbles. But let's talk about those espresso martinis – hands down, the tastiest ever. Props to the bartenders for nailing it. Grind London's bar is a must-visit for a chill time and killer drinks. Highly recommend!

Had an hour to kill in the early evening so popped in for a drink. Good atmosphere inside with lots of people enjoying great looking cocktails. We ended up sitting under a head lamp outside and had delicious hot chocolate with complimentary nibbles to snack on. The person serving us was very friendly and it was a lovely, if somewhat quirky, visit.

This was quite a spontaneous lunch trip as I came here to wait for a friend and this place happened to be nearby Old Street Station as soon as I walked out. Nevertheless, I was satisfied with my time here. I liked their sleek interior. I’ve tried a lot of matcha lattes in the past year. The matcha latte I had here was average and had a weaker bitter matcha taste to it. On the other hand, I liked my banana French toast served with dried banana pieces, chocolate sauce and cream. Whilst it appeared to be heavy, it wasn’t overpowering. The toast had the appropriate butter-y taste and a good burst in flavour from the banana. Slightly on the pricier side for the meal, it was nice to try.

Great location for good coffee. They do smoothies and cocktails too. I have been here before but sitting outside, I always stop by to have coffee when i passed this area. Friendly staffs here always ask your feedback on your experience here.

Nice place as you exit Old Street Station. The cocktails were great, and they had some on special offers for £8. It was a sit-down service, but we didn't feel the server was very friendly. Despite the warmth inside, overall it was a good experience.

The original Grind venue which was formerly a mobile phone shop. Went in here for a late lunch. Very atmospheric interiors with rustic touch, monochrome elements and neon letters. Decent spot for working. I ordered a butterfly pea latte and smashed ago on toast. The toast was very tasty. eggs were cooked well and liked the addition of lemon juice garnish with the food. The latte was also very well made. Not the densest amount of ingredients but still delicious. Nice spot for a coffee break or a first date. Very casual with a bit of East London edge.

Quick pit stop for coffee while my partner attended Moorfields Eye Hospital. Ordered Iced Vanilla Latte £4 grabbed a seat outside as it was a sunny and drink was brought outside. Tasted good, all the vanilla was at the bottom and needed to have a good stir.

Assumed a place that was dedicated to coffee would do a brilliant coffee but I assumed wrong. Average at best. It was a very watery consistency and burnt lingering after taste on the flat whites we had. However, nice member of staff and the place looked like a pleasant place to sit in.

This is always super busy and it is very popular, that's why it took me so long to give it a try. But when I was passing by it was quiet, I wanted a coffee and chill for a while so I've decided to give it a go. Had a white americano and it was a nice for a coffee break.

Omg ! From the awesome die for food, to one perfect brew and to top it all - our waitress Jess made us feel right at home. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for one of the best cafes in town!

Came here for my girlfriends 21st birthday! It’s absolutely amazing. The food is great, the coffee is great and this is our new regular.

Absolutely delicious food - menu is mostly all day breakfast. The sweet potato hash and mushrooms were especially amazing. Coffee and juices nice too but quite pricey. It’s lovely to be able sit outside in the sun but currently with Old Street roundabout works ongoing, it’s quite noisy and polluted.

I got a cappuccino and the vegetarian breakfast. Staff were super super friendly. The waitress Rachel was going above and beyond, so high energy and nothing was too much trouble with her. This was my first time here and I expected the food to be a bit of a tourist trap because it’s such a pretty cafe but I was completely wrong! Food was amazing and coffee was even better. Couldn’t recommend this spot more

I am regular at the this place.... coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. The staff are always excellent.... very personable and always serving with a smile... always looked after by Pav and the team. It's not always easy to find a well made flat white... these guys nail it every time. Also I have tried the vegetarian breakfast and the quality of the cooking can't be faulted.... Overall a great experience... these guys got me through working from home in the summer of 2021!

Can only unfortunately rate the lovely cappuccino I had to go - changed my mind and sat outside on the patio, was no issue and got a carafe of water served as well - the service standard (that I experienced was high). As to the coffee, you can tell the quality of roast and flavour profile (on the sweeter side - yet velvety smooth and delicious) was very high and worth the added price premium.

Absolutely amazing. Cute vibes, excellent food, and delicious coffee. The staff is so kind and attentive. Just go here… you’ll love it!

I can only rate the drinks and their pods, I love their coffees, matcha & chai lattes. The baristas are really skilled! It is a cool environment to work, not so much to chill. Unfortunately the old street construction site ruins a bit the vibe but is not their fault.

Love this place right next to Old Street station, best coffee in London and absolutely the best double baked almond croissants. Super atmosphere and fast service

  • 5/5 Naima T. 3 months ago on Google New
It's one of the best coffees and croissants I have had... a little on the expensive side. Was charged 2 pounds service charge for someone to bring coffee to our table... a little extravagant, I must admit.....

Amazing staff, loved the English breakfast. Had a coffee, and then went on with cocktails, which were also top quality. The location is also really good. Would definitely recommend to my friends! Pav was amazing 🔥🥰

Excellent food and lovely coffee 👌👍 We dropped into the Grind for breakfast on Sunday morning, the food was great as was the service and coffee. When we arrived it was quite quiet but quickly became busy - booking in advance is recommended.

Grind was our last stop on a marathon of enjoyment and much needed catch up and it was definitely a save the best for last. It was still in the time of dining outside and although there had been some showers we were able to be seated and given the cosiest blankets to keep us warm. We ordered the 3 small dishes as we weren't as hungry and tried some of the amazing cocktails. The view was beautiful as you're just in sight of the city and the ambience was just absolutely freeing. Would recommend this cosy spot to anyone looking for amazing service and yummy nibbles whilst on the go shopping or just taking a lil time out

I love a coffee from the Shoreditch Grind. Friendly staff and the best of independent coffee, even with a Starbucks next door. The outdoor seating is very popular.

Visited in the evening for some cocktails. Quirky coffee themed ones among the options which was interesting. Will be coming back especially since there's a "passport" loyalty reward scheme. We love a good stamp.

The sandwiches are presented very well, plenty of choice regarding where you want to sit, you can sit outside and watch the passersby, you can seek refuge inside and become a goldfish too or you could seek privacy towards the back next to the kitchen. The very very young staff adds to the dynamism of this place. The coffee/milkshake servings are a bit small though hence the 4 stars - come on, get bigger cups/glasses, it's only coffee!

One of the best coffees in the area (going there every morning before work), food is excellent (perfect spot for a brunch on Saturdays or Sundays) and the staff is super kind and client oriented. Definitely recommend the place

This is a classic coffee hangout in Old Street. I have been coming here for a long time (it must be more than a decade now). I love how their new brand look and feel has added further value to the overall quality of products and service offered by this iconic coffee hangout. It is one of the most hipster coffee places in London by far and I love to on occasions stop here and do some remote work from here.

Lovely place to grab a coffee or something to munch. Great music and the staff is extremely friendly! It quickly became our favorite spot at Old Street for our morning coffee ☕️😄

We came here for an iced coffee on a rather sunny day. Paul was extremely helpful and had a big smile on his face when he was getting the order, which is brilliant to see from hospitality staff (not all places have such polite and positive people!).

Grind was wonderful! The staff are amazing and very helpful. The coffee was beautiful and the chips delicious. Complete vibes, reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Delicious brunch, vibrant music and (obviously) best coffee!! We're coming here almost every day for reviving coffee, giggles and great music! Staff are like the cool kids from the block, they are so friendly and making amazing coffee! P.S.: I just had an amazing brunch while listening to Beyonce - I'm about to dance my way into the world 🌟🌟🌟

Had bottomless brunch and an English breakfast which was delicious. Lucia our server was great, very helpful and polite. It's really noisy inside with the acoustics so better to sit outside if you can get a table.

  • 5/5 Deb W. 1 year ago on Google
Had a lovely time here. Popped here for a coffee and also decided to have a smoothie. Was delicious. Sat outside as inside was so hot. Who'd have thought sitting outside right behind Old Street roadworks hoardings / concrete central would have been a nice experience but it was. (only in London!). Would come back.

Been coming to this Grind (Shoreditch) for 10 years now… never disappoints! Great coffee and fun atmosphere - but the real secret is the staff. Every time, every coffee, it’s a great experience. Questions on coffee? Just ask! Don’t see what you want on the menu? Just ask! …like this morning - was craving a bacon roll… Deniz sorted it without delay, even though it wasn’t on the menu. Deniz for the win! Honestly, if only every place could be as friendly and accommodating as the Grind. 10 stars if I could!
