Magnificent stately home, once a royal residence. Been lovingly restored to art deco style in the 1930s but still retains some of its medieval history. Nice gardens and great views towards the city. Fascinating place to spend a few hours. Very friendly helpers.

Great historic Palace. Beautiful Art Deco furnishing. Nice kids outdoor area and clean cafeteria and seating area. Limited menu but adequate. Souvenir shop sells good things and wines. Yummy. Lovely trees and gardens. Very tranquil and peaceful not rushed. Parking only £3.

Absolutely fantastic. A hidden gem that is well worth visiting. A fantastic story from medieval times until the art deco period. A great mix of history and very modern (for it’s time). Beautiful gardens too.

If you want to escape the crowds and noise of central London for half a day, this is the place to go to. Easily reachable with public transport. The interior is art deco, so not a typical castle. The garden is splendid, and a nice walk.

An absolutely fascinating and interesting place to visit. The Tudor hall is very grand topped by the magnificent hammer beam roof, and also stained glass windows. The house is grand in a different way, also magnificent, but for the art deco throughout, and so modern for the 1930's. All well curated and the recommended route around makes sure you see everything. Don't forget to wander around the gardens.

Very cool art deco house. Sadly when we visited the gardens were mostly closed but still very much enjoyed our visit. They also have a few special talks/tours during the day.

A truly majestic place to come, where sights and sounds abound at every turn. The palace can be navigated thanks to a thoroughly engaging audio guide that breaks down each room and even the garden outside and once you're done with that, there is an achingly beautiful garden to explore with benches that offer spectacular views of the London skyline. Of course there's also a café for those who'd like a break from exploring. This place will be money well spent and a day out thoroughly enjoyed by all. Give it a go, you won't regret it. Oh, and be sure to check out the six minute film that gives a brief rundown of the palace's history - quite interesting.

This place is the first on our list for weekend getaway. Lovely gardens, playground for the kids, lovely cafe in a green house. The Eltham Palace (house) is a great place to visit as well. But we've been there 10 or more times, so we mostly come for a walk in the garden. And I'm in love with rotang chairs and tables outside in the garden. We always take a chance to seat and enjoy this place.

An enjoyable visit to Eltham Palace. As a fan of Art Deco architecture, I had a thoroughly enjoyable ‘step back in time’. It certainly helps when the weather is bright and sunny, the light lifts the colours of the interior. Take your time to enjoy the self-paced audio-guide tour. You can also have a picnic in the allocated area or try the cafe. Parking is available but can be limited during busy periods.

Christmas lights event has been really wonderful. Beautiful setting, all staff are incredibly friendly with big smiles (despite the damp weather). Highly recommend!

The light showcasing was really pretty and nice, although I would heavily suggest one brings out their own car here and it did seem like a more family fun event. It wasn’t particular a long walk and I would’ve enjoyed it more had there been more variety for food and especially something for vegetarians. Overall the display was really pretty and you do get some great views of the city as well.

Visited with family and pretty impressed. What an absolute 1930's ExtravaganzA. As members of English heritage parking was free of charge. Enjoyed the movie and audio guide. Was impressed with basement and what a snooker table. Great playing spaces. Cafe was tiny and cheerful, Victoria sponge cake with coffee was 👌

This is a wonderful place to visit. A magical mix of medieval, Tudor and Art Deco. The lovely gardens are rather parched but still beautiful. The house, with its choice of audio guides, is amazing. The avocado cake is delicious and the educational entertainment was excellent.

We were a bit hesitant when we found out entry wasn't free, but in the end didn't regret our visit at all! We ended up spending a few hours here. The house itself is splendid. Though its age shows, it's well maintained. The art nouveau design and facilities sure were ahead of the time. The park is very pretty with a moat, rock garden and many different types of trees. There are plenty of shadowy spots and benches, some offering beautiful vistas of London. Definitely worth a trip. Go by bus and you'll see more of the SE-London towns around. Tickets are a little cheaper when bought online.

We joined to enjoy the lovely outdoor spaces and playgrounds. Great for little ones to explore nature. The playground isn't large but keeps kids happy for a couple of hours. The tearoom next door isn't cheap but very useful to recharge and get a caffeine fix. The grounds are large and well kept. I would definitely recommend joining as you probably won't spend all day here so day tickets can seem a little overpriced. But a membership means you can pop in and out and have a lovely quiet play wherever you please.

Really liked this place. Was unaware that it even existed. It has lots of staff all very knowledgeable along with a short video explaining the history of the palace and how it was restored on the 1930s. The gardens are spectacular and it has a large children's play area and nice gifts shop and cafe. Would recommend the cream tea. If I lived closer would visit just to see the gardens again. Well worth the admission price.

Amazing place. I'm surprised I've never discovered this before. Lovely grounds & so much history inside the building. The eating place was very nice too... Surprisingly as I'm usually disappointed at these places. Wonderful helpful friendly staff. Great childrens play area. Fair sized car park & overflow parking too. All in all a great day

Beautiful place and amazing atmosphere. I loved the art deco, learning a lot in each room about the history of the place and the significance of the travels and how it influenced the look of the Palace. I would recommend visiting. Volunteers at the Palace and the bookstore in one of the rooms were very friendly and chatty.

Really beautiful place to visit during the festive season. Great for families with young children under 10 years old. Lots to see and food stalls too. Hot chocolate and hot dogs 🌭 sold for a treat. You can even get giant marshmallows to toast on an open fire. Fun fair too but small scale. Highly recommended if in the Eltham area.

One of the great houses right in London. It’s pretty unique as it has 1940’s style of decor inside, Tudor’s hall and Roman bathroom… lovely mote and ground for an afternoon stroll. Great for a family day out. There is a free parking for member or £3 for a day. Cafe on site, but you can bring your own picnic. Activities through out the day. There is a play park for the children and the cafe is right next to it.

Lovely place.Palace which became a family home.Very different to the English heritage sites we usually visit. Lots of guides to answer questions or give you information. Two places to eat,one by car park and one in the palace. They are both quite small with a limited menu.We had pasta of the day. There's a good play area near the cafe by the car park. The gardens are lovely to walk around with plenty of benches to sit on for a while to take in the surroundings. When we went yesterday,English heritage had an event on.It was 1940's day out. There were a few characters dressed up who did activities throughout the day such as semaphore, singing and dancing, and UXB's!!!! The day's entertainment finished with a "concert " in the great hall.We had a great day!

This is a magical place, where medieval meets 1930s Art Deco. The history is as glamorous as the building. Don’t miss the ladder and trapdoor for their pet, and the super gold bathroom. Favourite room has to be the entrance hall, used for mega parties. I wish we were allowed one now, on many levels!

Lovely art deco mansion. Easy and relaxing to visit. Nice grounds and you are able to wander through the mansion taking your time. Some of the rooms are in average condition but nice to see it open for the public. Run by English Heritage.

We had a lovely morning here. The house was well laid out and not too busy. There were more rooms open than our last visit The cafe looked better catered than previous visit. Staff were friendly and helpful. Gardens were closed due to weather but will go back later in the year. Definitely worth the visit.

Great little day trip, only 20-30min by train from Central London. The house itself is very impressive with unique art deco designs that blend well into its more medieval past. Fantastically organised and informative audio guide. The grounds are great for a scenic stroll and offer a view of Central in the distance.

I found this palace to be absolutely fantastic. It has so much history behind it and it is a wonderful place to see some wonderful Art Deco objects and designs. I also enjoyed looking around the gardens and grounds There is a very pleasant café on site I found the staff to be very helpful and willing to answer questions about the palace. Certainly worth a repeat visit.

I really loved the Palace. Its monument to art deco. Lots of fun with and without kids. BTW you will be asked to leave pram outside (under the roof) before going inside the Palace.

An absolutely great "palace" to visit. So much history and beauty. I attended here with my family as well as my in laws. Friendly staff, always happy to help. We were offered the audio tour, however we declined and made our own way round, which was very calm and peaceful. There were dress up stations, which both adults and children could use, to immerse yourself in the history of the palace. Some amazing views of London as well a well looked after garden and land. You can see the pride in the landscaping with the flowers and borders. The day we visited, there was children's activities, which my 11 year old son joined in with. He tried his hand at the archery, and did pretty well for himself. Plenty of seating and benches around the grounds, which is great for both myself, my wife and my father in law, as we all have various health problems.

A beautiful place to spend a day! The gardens are lovely with plenty of places to sit and take in the views. The palace is stunning with so much to see and bursting with history. There are plenty of toilet facilities and places to eat with lots of choice.

It's beautiful here. A summers afternoon with my toddler and baby and other half. Lots of photos opportunities. Playground was nice, my son enjoyed playing here and we had tea, cake and icecream on the benches. We didn't go in the house as it was so lovely outside and we was enjoying the weather. Going down to the lake with a pushchair isn't ideal but we carried it but it does have signs that say whether you can get through or not. We will definitely visit again.

If you can bear a little bit of London traffic it is well worth the effort to visit. Once at the site there is an adequate car park (charges apply) and the visitor reception, toilet facilities and café that you would expect. The base admission price is at the higher end for English Heritage sites and on reflection we decided that this was the time to go for an annual membership to get best value for money. The interior of this site is particularly special with its art deco style addition to the surviving medieval hall, a significant number of rooms with period furnishings are available to explore. Throughout the house are information panels describing the use of the building throughout its history. Once the inside of the building has been enjoyed there remains the gardens that wrap around the palace. It is not the largest of estates but very well planted and maintained, the moat that runs along two sides adds to the beauty of the site. Also visible in some locations are the foundations of some of the original palace buildings for those who enjoy a ruin. A very good day out, highly recommended.

Beautiful art deco additions to a medieval great hall. Lovely, peaceful gardens to stroll through -- so hard to believe it's so close to London traffic and noise. Joined English Heritage so parking and visit was free.

Probably a forgotten gem in the city. One can easily spend a whole day there and forgets there's a thing called time. Time is simply freezed. Many thanks will never be enough to thank for the staff and volunteers who have spent enormous effort to keep it in good shape. Don't forget also the generous donors!

Absolutely stunning. Not too large to walk around. Suitable for elderly and a small play area for children. Nice tea rooms with indoor and outdoor seating

Exquisite, astonishing, mind-blowing, and many more great words to describe this historical landmark so representative for London and the whole UK. The castle that was home even for Henry VIII when he was a child has a sad story but with a happy ending thanks to the generosity of the millionaires Stephen and Virginia Courtauld who refurbished the old building and added and extension to it plus a modern touch. What impresses most is the house itself, which was built in the art deco style. Bird-eye maple veneered walls, aluminium-leaf ceiling, and black-and-silver doors with animals and birds are only a few examples from this style. The gardens are extremely well maintained and can be compared to the extent of the gardens from Hampton Court. It should be advertised and more people should visit it.

The Art Deco house has design in every aspect of it: spacious, beautiful and exceptionally functional. The interior flows into a medieval hall with a huge hammer-beam roof: the third great example after Westminster Hall and Hampton Court. The grounds, on the sunny early autumn day we visited, were lovely for strolling: well-planted and well-tended. Good coffee, cakes and lunch. Very highly recommended.
