I was very disappointed with the dinner. We didn't have to wait a long time for the table, so that was great. I had the big plate pork T-Bone and my friend had the Salmon and both dishes were a bit disappointing. The Salmon was basically only the Salmon, definitely needed a side dish, but for the price we thought it didn't need the side dish, and nothing was said when we ordered. The pork was very very dry. And the vegetables with it had some burned parts, literally black! I understand it could be slightly burned on the tips, but in this case it was at least one of the sides of the veggie, black. We order another small dish that was the Ham Hock Terrine but we didn't finish it, because the Ham was literally out of the fridge, cold and tasteless. Definitely not returning. For the price it was, I'm very surprised.

I love this place. Wine prices average for the area. Staff very friendly and attentive. Food prices also reasonable. We had the duck with mash potatoes pancakes and much more... Everything excellent. Atmosphere was relaxed. You def should consider when in Soho.

They have several branches this one doesn't accept reservations, we went for breakfast it was empty but in just half an hour the place got packed. Extensive menu options, huge portions, the pancakes and French toast was underwhelming we didn't like the butter maple syrup sauce extremely heavy and doesn't taste good, wish they consider serving it with simple maple syrup.

Went there for team lunch. More of a brunch place if you're into that. Had steak and eggs with crispy potatoes. Very good price and portion. Steak was cooked perfectly. Potatoes were a tad greasy. Booth tables are a bit small. Coffee was amazing. Overall pleasant experience. Staff were fun and friendly. Make sure you get the spinach. It's good for you! Noisy coffee and smoothie machine if you're sitting next to the bar. The back area is more quieter.

This place is unbelievable, great choice of food and drinks. The staff are extremely nice and welcoming. The gent at front of house is exactly that, very accommodating and polite. The food, the pair of us had the pancakes. Along with a couple of coffees. Absolutely 5 star all round! The best we’ve come across in London so far without fail! One thing I would add, I don’t personally believe in added gratuity on the end of any bill. I think tips should be given for great service and not compulsory. We gave an extra 15% to our waiter but it’s really not needed in a place like this when the staff are so good.. I didn’t get the waiters name, but if they were all like him, everyone should be tipping 15% with the service he gives. Will be back for sure!!

We stopped for lunch - had a seat at the window and watched the world go by. Fun and interesting area. Great decor inside! We had a simple cheese quesadilla and an utterly amazing beet taco! Chips were good - but chips are always good!!! Had a drink also - everything was delicious.

It's a nice place to chill. It was not the best brunch we've had, but it was good. The table was a little dirty. Although we didn't have a reservation, they had a table for us to squeeze in.

We were there on Friday evening / Saturday morning and the place is nearly full (around 1.30 am)! Service was quick (though a little abrupt - probably a little under staffed I think). Food was delicious- the Truffle chicken was great and the doughnuts were light and fluffy with lots of cream. The only issue we had was that I asked for soy milk for my tea and got an oversized glass of it!! But as I didn’t request this when ordering my tea- didn’t correct them and was ok with the extra charge.

We absolutely loved this place! Very warm and friendly staff. The food was so yummy and the tea and coffee was great. Also pretty good sized portions. Meron are server was lovely and gave excellent service. We will definitely be going back to Balans. It's our new brunch spot.

Good option for dining at Soho!!! I have mixed feelings with this place as I used to go there when it was a small place at different location on the same street. It has lost a bit of personality but food is good and it is very lively at all times. Will be back on my next visit to london!

This place is amazing, the food was great, the staff attentive and kind and so cozy an atmosphere. We had our plane home cancelled and was happy because then we could go back for another meal. Especially those pancakes, never had them more fluffy and delicious....

Appalling. We had a booking for dinner (we have visited various branches of Balans over the years). We have a mask exemption and explained this upon being asked to put masks on when giving our reservation details. We were then asked to provide proof/exemption card. - I explained that no official exemption card exists but I would download one to satisfy the request if preferred. Despite this, the Manager was not happy with this and said that he required further proof or we could not come in. Having showed him the government guidance that quite clearly states that those exempt do not have to provide proof or disclose their private medical information, he refuted this (after me having shown him this information from the gov website) and read it. He said that he had to follow the governments guidelines out of fear of Westminster Council clamping down on him. I said I fully understand this, however this is the government guidance and we have a valid reason for exemption and that to refuse us entry on that basis, amounts to discrimination. He said he suggests we take that up then and refused us entry. I was astonished that a venue such as Balan's would take such a discriminatory line. However we left the venue as requested, walked a few steps down to a fantastic restaurant (that we may have otherwise not discovered) and had our meal. This restaurant did understand the guidance and we enjoyed excellent food, cocktails and customer service. - we will always book here if in the area from now on. So not only have Balan's lost any future custom from our circle, they have now been reported for this too in the hope that no one else has to suffer this treatment.

Food is dry and overcooked as you can see from the poached egg. Lobster is not worth the money when it's this overcooked. The bloody Mary is way too sour and watery. However the service is very good and the waiters are very nice, however it is a very male heavy establishment with no female waiters in the morning service. Don't waste your money here, go elsewhere.

Lovely vibey brunch spot. French toast is nice but a bit on the dry side - they are generous with the toffee sauce but I wish the bread was a bit more soaked. Pancakes are light and fluffy, but again a bit on the dry side.

A shame the kitchen (and service) didn't match the quality of the bar. Came here for dinner in mid Sept 2020 with a small group, this was my third or fourth visit and I had recommended this place for dinner as it has been good before. Unfortunately this time the food was very 50/50. Half the table enjoyed their food, the other half didn't at all. Shame, this place used to be a solid recommendation, but with the pushy table staff asking us if we wanted new drinks every few minutes, 50/50 food reliability, the great cocktails on offer at the bar aren't compelling enough for me to return again.

Had a late brunch with a couple friends there. We all ordered pancakes and they were very good. American style, fluffy with great toppings. Waiter was so funny and had great conversation with us. Restaurant is super spacious in an excellent location in the heart of soho.

FOOD IS DELICIOUS! It was extremely busy on a saturday afternoon and there was a queue outside, so I am relieved that my friend made a booking in advance. We ordered fried chicken pancakes and eggs in hell. Pancakes are star of the show. I love the combination of sweet and savoury & the spiced syrup provided just the right amount of that. They have a bunch of non alc drinks and i quite enjoyed the peach jasmine soda. However, i have taken off a star because the avocado side my friend ordered was only half an avocado and they charged us 4.5£ for that.

Ealing branch: I don't usually write reviews; however I have to this time! I Would give this place zero stars if I could. Food was inedible! How this place gets such good reviews is completely beyond me! My boyfriend and I thought it would be nice to go for a little brunch and were unfortunately very disappointed by the food. It's only good if you're going for drinks as the ambience is quite nice. But now going back to the food... the pancakes were thick and doughy with an abnormal texture. The blueberries with the pancake tasted like old mushy grapes rather than blueberries. The fish was not fresh, tasted like cold old oil and the mushy peas tasted like they had been in the fridge from the year before with no cover. It was so clear everything was not at all fresh! The chips weren't any better! The chips were hard and nothing like how chips should be.They would've been better if they were cooked in a microwave. And my usual favourite tartare sauce was actually disgusting, tasted like old onions which I couldn't believe as even Mcdonalds do better tartare sauce. Had to splatter ketchup over my plate to mask the smell of the fish. Their dishes looked really good on their instagram which contributed to the disappointment in person. I'm not one to make a fuss when I'm dining somewhere as most of us but this was too bad. Also, I didn't think they could bring out anything better than what they had already brought out so I didn't ask for a new dish. A real let down as they were real simple dishes and BRITISH. Overall, was an absolute let down and won't ever be going again. Absolute waste of money, was pricey too.

My husband and I have been staying in Soho for a week on vacation. We’ve eaten at Balans No. 60 almost every day and love it. Great food. Great service. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Fantastic ambience. And the sign inside is accurate. You will want to “abandon all plans” as soon as you step foot in here.

I was discriminated against. Refused entry. I am exempt from wearing a face mask. As I have a medical condition that prohibits it. I tried to provide evidence but it was disregarded. By law medical evidence is confidential and should be only shared with gp. The manager was hostile and rude. May I note not a medical professional. You say you were following government guidelines. But i think you were following your own interpretation of what they were. The restaurant was fully packed with tables not far apart. Maybe a 2 feet apart. So not the 1m social distancing rule. Which the government clearly states. I have been a loyal customer for years. Had a bad experience with there food in Westfield. I said I'll never go here again but thought I'll give there soho branch a try. Which was a mistake. Although I booked a table me and relatives were refused entry and discriminate against. Thankfully it only took as a few moments to.find a restaurant down the road that did understand the law and welcome and our business. I wont be returning to Balans again. They have lost three customers for good. Plenty more.

I visited from the states and did not have high hopes for English food. But I tell you, I was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful the food was. I ordered the Full English with French Toast and it was delectable. I truly enjoyed my meal. The service was great! We didn’t have a reservation, walked in and were immediately seated. Didn’t wait long for our meals. Our waitress made meal recommendations and explained different food items I was unfamiliar with (I.e black pudding). I will most definitely be back.

Excellent place for brunch. We visited London and a friend of ours recommended this place and we had a great time. The food was tasty and the service was very good. There was a problem with our reservation and even though they found a table for us.

Have been twice recently. The starters or sharing plates were very good, though the tacos were a little bland. Lasagna bites were excellent. The first time I went the steak and burger were both underdone compared to what we had asked for but the second time the mains were better. The service from Ben was very good.

Definitely too overrated place. 1. Small portions that are absolutely overpriced. The potato bread avocado on the picture is 12£. And is not like there was something special about it. The other portions don’t even come with toast in the price, you pay extra. You can get full english in other spots for this price. 2. Service is super slow.

Firstly, the servers are so nice and friendly! A good space with window seats. Fun if you love to people watch. I tried the chicken dish, I wouldn't say it's fabulous but it's an interesting Asian British fusion and I don't mind having it again. The cocktail was good!

  • 4/5 Sam C. 2 years ago on Google
Perfect atmosphere and lovely decor in the heart of Soho. The Full English was delicious. The Pancakes are insanely sweet and the portion size is huge! Given only 4 stars as the service was a little slow and we we're charged twice for 1 portion of baked beans.

We visited Balans for lunch during the week and was a very pleasant experience. I didn't want to eat anything too heavy and Balans hit the spot as they serve all day breakfast . We had "eggs in hell" and pancakes with bacon, fresh juice and a coffee. The bill came to £27 which I though was reasonable for the West End. The staff were friendly and polite and made the experience very enjoyable. I'd definitely recommend Balans if you're in the area.

Absolutely amazing! Been here a few times this year, every time is amazing, last visit (September 11th /London pride) our waiter (the guys who looks like Roy from IT crowd) was an absolute babe! Even when I split my drink all over me he was there quick as a flash with paper towels. And the food is always tasty and filling ☺️✨

I'm very into coffee, the cappuccino was basic, sorry. But the food made up for this. I had the fried chicken pancakes and my partner had the full English, both delicious! I wish my pancakes had had more kimchi (only about a teaspoon worth on the plate!) And I wish it had been spicer, but otherwise it was fantastic.

Balans No.60 Soho was lovely. We had brunch there and the food was delicious; the best pancakes I’ve had for a long time. Completely affordable but top quality. The staff are great, they’re super polite and friendly. The decor inside is super quirky, exactly what you’d expect from Soho!

Went for lunch yesterday for the first time. It was great, lovely inside and had table by window. Meal was great - fish and chips and eggs florentine. The pudding at end was simply divine. The waiting staff are very good and efficient. Will come back as a great Soho spot to eat.

The place has a lovely vibe, very friendly staff and nice seating area. However, the food is pretty unimpressive in my opinion. I had Egg Benedict with salmon and it was okay but the muffins aren’t that fresh. On an additional note, the flat white I had was really good. Was nice for a quick brunch, don’t think I’ll come again.

First time i visited this Balan soho restaurant, before opening time at 10am. Peoples already started to queue outside. Ordered a full english breakfast here, it was really good breakfast here and the portion is decent. Friendly staff here and quick service, we don't have wait too long for the food to be serve. Advise to book a table, otherwise you have an hour time to finish the meal. 😊 Overall, the food and service is good, i will come back next time for the breakfast again.

My girlfriend and I had a lovely time at Balans. The atmosphere was lovely and friendly and our waiter was great. He made the experience all the better. Food is great too. We both had the curry and I highly recommend it. Wine menu is also fantastic and when I didn’t know what to order our waiter gave a fantastic recommendation.

This place has been around so long, I’ve been coming here at least 18 years and it’s as reliable now as it was back then. There’s a great selection of food and an even bigger selection of drinks, including classic cocktails. The loyalty scheme is always fairly good. It can get really noisy in the evenings but it’s good music and great staff! Come for brunch and return for dinner; you won’t regret it!

  • 5/5 Fernanda L. 1 year ago on Google
They have an extensive menu with delicious options for every craving (sweet, salty, etc). I really liked their breakfast options. I loved the fact that the place is pet friendly and that even though reservations are recommended they also take walk ins.

Visited late on a Wednesday night and seated right away. It was fairly crowded - believe that's because it was one of the few places open late. Server was friendly, but service became less attentive as time went on. Ordered a couple beers, fish & chips, tortellini, and arancini. The food was okay but could've used more flavor/seasoning. Prices were decent. Would recommend for a casual late night meal.

  • 2/5 M G. 8 months ago on Google
There seemed to be only 1 waiter for the whole floor, so he was very stressed; he was very snappy throughout his interaction with us. This resulted in terrible customer experience. Food looked nice but lacked real taste. Not everything has to be drowned in maple syrup.

  • 3/5 Tanya A. 9 months ago on Google
The waiter was hot….. the food was not. Food tasted good but it was all just a little lukewarm. Would go back but make sure I asked for the food to be hot. Also if getting the steak and eggs ask for medium well. We asked for medium rare and the steak was a little too rare and a bit chewy.

One of my favourite restaurants in London. The menu is interesting, the food quality always good, the staff firnedly and lovely and the overall ambiance just makes Balans the perfect place for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or supper. I've loved being to eat outsdie during the summer and hope that this carried on next year. I popped in recently and had the Christmas meal. Perfectly cooked turkey, with al lthe proverbial trimmings, and a Christmas pudding with brandy butter. Great start to the festive season.

This restaurant used to have an avant guard menu back in the day. I haven't dined there for a while. It seems to have shrunk to serving burgers, fish and chips and steak, I can go to any other restaurantfor these. Was I wrong to expect a varied and adventurous menu? I had the steak, which although small for a rib-eye, was cooked the way I asked and like it. The staff were attentive and helpful and the food was ok. However, someone allowed a person to walk through the restaurant with a husky dog, to go and use the toilet ! It certainly wasn't a guide dog. As this industry is struggling in these times, I think the owners need to revive it to its former bon vivant.

Went for a birthday breakfast, asked if I could seat in one of the booths as soon as the door open (reservation was booked for 10am) was kindly told no because we were only two people but after some minutes went by and everyone else that was waiting to come in was seated, the person in charged come over and moved us to a booth. Which was really nice of them. Service was really good, very attentive, and helpful. Even manage to spill water over the table by accident the guy working on the day was so nice about it and help clear up the mess within a few mins. The only thing I can fault it the price is slightly on the higher end but the food was nice . Not sure if I would say it worth it. But for an occasion definitely. Salt beef sandwich was halal and very good which is rare also chicken is halal. thanks Balans Team @ Soho No. 60 for our visit!

The service here was really great. I got the 1/2 lobster. Actually the most disappointing part of this was the lobster which was dry/overcooked... The rest was delicious. The potatoes were also delicious as a side. Would have given a 5/5 if the lobster was better.

Really enjoyed the food at Balans. I had the scallops and duck breasts, and the portion size was just right and the flavours were delightful. A slight wait for everything to arrive because of how they're having to restructure due to the virus, but it's nothing massively worrying...I'd rather them take their time and take all precautions for safety! I will be returning in the near future!

I have been here with my boyfriend around 11.45am without any expectations, but the food were surprisingly good and the service of Fabio was fabulous. He was so busy with so many customers, able to deal with everyone even if obviously he was under stress because alone, but still smiling and trying to give the best service, and he did! Great tasty cocktails, nice variety of food but it is pricey for what it is. The vegan burger's bread bun was dry and is £16 without chips; whereas the meat option comes with; which is unfair, I think. The calamari was very good but the portions are small and uneven compared to my friends'. The presentation needs more care, attention and revamping. However, I did enjoy my Mushroom walnut parpadelle. I also thought the decor was quite strange and not sure what they are getting at apart from a generic "edgy" style 😂

Very nice bouncer but really rude waitress just now - Gratiela said in the ticket. Honestly made our experience really poor, someone has to show her some manners.
