Very awesome and casual traditional Japanese diner in the corner of the busy China town district. If you’re looking for less of a noisy environment this is the perfect place! Plenty of seating through 3 floors and customers are seated spaciously throughout. Lovely views of the lanterns and the high street. Staff was very helpful and polite. They were able to recommend us things and guide us through the menu well. We preferred katsu curry tofu soba, katsu egg sauce with pork and rice bed and seaweed salad. Everything was empty when we left the table! The only sad thing is that they didn’t have takeout boxes. Beware that they also don’t take tip and have a cashless policy. Excellent place and highly recommend!

Super cute restaurant in Chinatown. My friend and I arrived at 10:50 pm and were able to order before the kitchen closed at 11 pm. Service was quick and efficient, and the food was delicious. They don’t accept tip, which was peculiar and interesting. I would recommend!

One of the best Japanese restaurants I have ever tried in London. Authentic Japanese cuisine, honest prices and nice service. Highly recommended.

I love this place and their food. I always have the chicken katsu curry (its so tasty- the best i have ever had), my partner always has the chicken teriyaki bento box (also amazing) and we also recently tried the chicken don katsu curry which did not disappoint, SO tasty!! They don't take reservations but you do not have to wait that long - even if you have to wait though, it is really worth it. We have been dining in this place for a very long time and i recommend it to everyone.

Super super delicious food and the very best staff there, so lovely! For the ones who feel extra hungry, they provide a bigger portion for free :) Our meal was extra nice since the tofu was so crispy and the sauce this tasteful I haven't eaten such exquisite Japanese food before.

Small but cozy. It just happened to walk in there as it just opened for the evening and sat for a meal. Not many options but nice and tasty food. Free Japanese tea and constant top-up. Very nice and polite staff!

Authentic Japanese food, not expect wide variety of selection but it’s really the traditional small scale restaurant I have tasted in Japan. Good food, good service, good location. Awesome: Japanese tea and big portion is free. P.S: all if the staff can speak Japanese and English.

First off the service was impeccable, the staff were so so friendly . I understand you can’t tip here but they definitely deserved a hefty tip. The food was so quick which I was glad about but this did not affect the quality. Fresh, delicious and large portion sizes. Everything I got was from the sides as I wanted to try a lot of different things, and a bit of sushi. The Inari was definitely a stand out dish. Thank you for a great dinner❤️

We had super high hopes for this place as it has super good reviews. The food was alright though. We had several bento boxes, the Udon soup and the tofu curry and it was all just very average.

The place is in the middle of Chinatown but doesn't seem as touristy as other restaurants surrounding it. In fact, it appears very authentic, all staff speak Japanese, there is a good selection of Japanese dishes. Interestingly, the first page of the menu says that tips are not common in Japan and have never been accepted in this restaurant. All money left on the table will go to a charity of the restaurant's choice. Generally speaking, a very different and positive experience.

Nice to discover an amazing authentic Japanese restaurant in the heart of Soho! Using Japanese ingredients to make delicious dishes with a very varied and appetising menu on offer. My favourite was 揚げ出し豆腐。The broth was incredible, just like I was back in Japan 🥹 No wait time needed for a table, and staff were very organised and quick with taking orders. Will definitely be visiting here again! 🫶🏻

Pretty authentic and delicious Japanese food. Somehow did not have the same footfall like some other places even though it is in a very busy Touristy area . Service was attentive and courteous. We had a bento box and a curry udon for mains and shared an appetizer of chicken karaage. Everything was fresh and scrumptious. The karaage chicken was very crunchy and delicious. They also don't add the optional service charge like other places in London. Would visit again if I return to the area.

The place feels authentically Japanese, from the font of the menus to the food. The salmon don (7/10) I had was nice, though I wish there was just a little more salmon. The spinach (8/10) was great—I love the sesame used in it. This place is very busy, and there was a long queue outside when we left.

Authentic, homemade style Japanese food. Ordered the chicken katsu curry which was hearty and perfect for the winter. Really delicious, mild curry with crispy katsu chicken and a really generous portion of rice on the side. Service was friendly and quick and I enjoyed the overall homey Japanese interior decoration and atmosphere. Didn't have to wait too long in the queue fortunately and would definitely come back very soon!

I had the best Chicken Katsu Curry here! The staff is extremely kind and friendly, the dishes are exquisite and I highly recommend this restaurant! A real gem and I look forward to going back with friends! They do not take tips nor charge a service fee, however if you leave a tip on the table, they will donate the sum to St Martin’s-in-the-fields’ Unit to help the homeless! Such big heart!

Love love love!!! Service is excellent 10/10. Food is 10/10. Cleanliness 10/10. We ordered noodle soup, chicken katsu curry, nigiri sushi set & age-dashi tofu. Very very good!!! Portions are very generous but if you want a larger portion of rice its free!!! Great meet & greet - as soon as you are seated you are offered Jasmine Tea for free! Always a plus!!

I came in late after a long day. The staff were super kind and courteous even after they'd had a long day. The chicken in batter was so gentle to the taste I ordered more. The staff let me stay a bit longer as I was enjoying my tea in the quiet. Really lovely restaurant. Thoroughly recommend it.

Sehr authentische japanische Küche. Sehr lecker. Wir waren zu Mittag essen, der Service war sehr gut und das Essen sehr lecker. Der Preis ist für London absolut top.

I’ve been twice, first time I was impressed and most recently not so much. We had the two Katsu curry options, which perhaps weren’t good options but wasn’t fussed!

Excellent traditional Japanese food. The stuff was very helpful and fast working. The atmosphere felt like we were in a restaurant in Japan. A bit pricey for our Greek standards, but good food and service quality make up for it by a lot. Great work!

I came here to try out their Gyudon and its probably the best Gyudon I have tried in London. They offer large portion size free of charge (Regular size and Large Size are the same prices). Unlike other Gyudons I tried in London, every pieces of beef in the Gyudon here are delicious and not over-chewy, the Gyudon here is not too wet too, which is good, hence 5 star for the food. The restaurant itself is built with a Japanese wooden construction theme, which stands out well in the middle of London, scoring 5/5 for atmosphere of the restaurant. Furthermore, they don't take tips or add service charge to the bill, thus 5 star for the service. They only open after 5pm on most of the weekdays and their website says they dont take online reservation, but their restaurant is quite big and I had no trouble getting a table walking in for dinner.

A fantastic place to have lunch/dinner at! Tokyo Diner has its rules, which is truly wonderful, i.e. they do not serve tuna (environmental reasons), and they do not accept tips (cultural reasons) - which is wonderfully explained at the very first pages of the menu. Food is simply delicious and authentic, and tastes even better with the hospitality it is served with - tea and water are on the house. Staff -all speaking Japanese- is very welcoming and nice and makes sure you have everything you need. Very casual and cosy atmosphere with a lovely view over the street. Huge plus for Tokyo Diner's sustainability statement: whenever it's possible, they look for sustainable sources of supply. All electricity used comes from renewable resources. No tuna is served until it can be reliably proven to come from sustainable aquaculture. Thanks so much, Tokyo Diner, for your sustainability efforts! 🌍 Useful info: - Vegetarian options available. - Toilets clean and available, but it's not wheelchair accessible (1st floor). - Cashless policy - No parking available.

This place transcends the madness that is Chinatown and Soho. Calm, cosy and serves wholesome food like you're in an izakaya in Asakusa, Tokyo. Pay attention to the subtleties and niceties of the service. They even forgone the greed of the London hospitality industry carrying a remnant of covid-19 of exorbitant "not so optional" service charges (some up to 15%). TD decided to follow the Japanese way, where tipping is considered begging. As for the food, you'd be hard pressed in getting better value. The karaage was crunchy, the soba perfectly al dente, and the charashi was a bowl of fatty, oceanic goodness. The food is generous, hearty, fresh, and delicious. TD is a class act and a breath of fresh air.

Small, Japanese diner - it has a very cosy, warm atmosphere. The service was great - free Japanese green tea + refills. The waiter was very kind and helpful with the orders, we had specific dietary requirements which he tried his best to meet. The food was okay value for money, would recommend to try out. They also offer free larger portions of rice.

Reasonable authentic Japanese fare. I ordered a selection of sashimi, which was fresh and nice but I would have preferred a little more variety and for the portion it was slightly overpriced. The udon noodles with cold soup was reasonably nice but the soup was a little too bland. If you’re looking for somewhere to have an authentic Japanese meal where the dining experience is more realistic of that of a restaurant in Japan, this may be the place for you. Also all the staff can speak Japanese.
