The church building itself was closed when I visited, but the churchyard and Hogarth memorial were well-maintained.

Just passed by or gone around it, was closed so didn't see it inside. Small cemetery at the back. The church is typical Medieval stone built and one of the oldest in Chiswick. Worth to take look while around.

The church and its graveyard are well worth a visit. Located on Church St, in Old Chiswick, just off the Hogarth roundabout, the church is by the Tames and has a stillness and beauty, which is truly special The church is grade 2 listed, but it is the grave yard that has some hidden treasures. William Hogarth 1697-1764 is buried here. Hogarth was an English painter, engraver, and social critic, famous for The Rakes Progress. Hogarth lived in Leicester Square but had a Sumner house in Chiswick, a few minutes walk from the church. The other notable grave is that of Frederick Hitch, born in Southgate, morth London, died 1913. He is the only taxi driver to have been awarded the VC. Hitch was awarded the VC for bravery at the Battle of Rorkes Drift. Routes Drift may sound familiar, it was the actual battle on which the film Zulu starring Michael Caine was based on. On his return to England, Hitch became a cab driver and his funeral was attended by a large number of London cab drivers. These are just two hidden gems in the graveyard at St Nicholas, Well worth the visit

Beautiful Church of England temple located at one side of Fuller's Brewery. Accessible by car from Hogarth Roundabout. I have only been once inside for a classical music concert and it was magical

It is said that the head of Cromwell was retrieved by his daughters, the body was left in a ditch. Both daughters are buried, below ground level in a crypt in St Nicolas Church Chiswick, close to the River Thames. In the late 1880`s the Church was being renovated and an additional coffin was found with no name. The vicar fearing that it held the head of Cromwell, bricked up the entry point and further sealed it, not wanting it to become a visit for tourist or attended by anti Cromwell factions . Its still sealed to this day .

It is an interesting Village church on the edge of central London, and we visited it during a walk exploring the area. It is mainly famous for the Grave of the artist Hogarth.

Nothing like having your own private church.

Built on a pre-Christian religious site. Named after the Saint of fishermen and sailors from when Chiswick was predominantly a fishing village. The ragstone bell tower dates from 14th century. Whilst the rest of the church was rebuilt in 1882. Some famous dead lie either in the church graveyard or in the attached Chiswick Old Cemetery also known as Chiswick Burial Ground. These include the painter's Hogarth and Whistler. Whistler's tomb stands out from all the others as it is in greened bronze with wee feminine figures stood at each corner of it. Frances Cromwell and Mary Cromwell Cromwell's daughters. And the Duchess of Cleveland Barbara Villiers who was the Mistress of King Charles 2nd. Sadly I couldn't find Hogarth's headstone, although I believe it's one surrounded by iron railings so I might actually have taken a photo of it and not realised.
