I really liked staying at Pickwick Hall, characterful house with many period features. A little shabby in places but not to it's detriment. Room was pleasant and comfortable, large too. Showers and toilet were fine answered shared, I'm not sure if there's any private bathrooms. Breakfast was basic but of good quality and plentiful, staff were very good. Finally the low price belittles the quality. I recommend this hostel.

Lovely hostel. Nice staff. Continental brekkie as much as you want and comfy bed. What more could a tired Yorkshireman need? Booking an en suite next time. Thanks.

I am not one to leave negative reviews but this place deserves it. Other than the good location and friendly staff this place is awful and should be shut down. Massive stains on the carpets, stains on the 'new' bedding, curtains hanging off the rails, huge holes in the walls both in the bedrooms and in the bathroom, massive water damage in the bathrooms, no lock on the toilet doors, no working lights in the bathrooms... i could go on. Worst place I have ever stayed. please avoid

Stayed for a night in a private room. Staff where really friendly and accommodating. They let us leave luggage after we checked out so gave us an extra day of exploring! Beds are super comfy and free breakfast. Excellent location, easy to get to alot of the major attractions in Central London. Excellent value and everything you want from budget accommodation. Would stay again!

Great location is almost ideal. Tube nearby. Nice to have fridge and microwave and sink. Common bathroom old but relatively clean. Shower room needs maintenance, rusty, a bit of mould. Free breakfast toast and cereal. Coffee tea. Nice small common area. Staff helpful. Not a fan of the bed too soft. Heater helpful. I paid 55 pounds which is on the high end for something like this compared to other budget hotels with ensuites.

A fantastically clean place with really nice little rooms. Caters to a non-party crowd, which is nice if you are coming in to explore or for work etc. The staff is incredible, and will go out of their way to help. I had a meeting the evening of my checkout, and they had no issues letting me come on back in to iron a shirt and freshen up before leaving the hostel for good. The breakfast is simple, but good enough. Would highly recommend.

Couldn't prop the windows and the rooms were stifling hot. The guy who greeted us was pretty short during the check in process. It was okay, but I wouldn't stay here again, especially for the cost.

I leave 5 stars, not because this a 5-star place but it was what it was and met my objectives when booking - clean, dry place to sleep while traveling. The place needs repairs, but I would not describe it as dirty more just things need painting, carpet replacing etc. Bedding and bathrooms was clean and shower water was hot. Room had two twins and sink. Breakfast is provided, but as noted is coffee/tea, toast, cereal, and that is it. We were in Room 6 on the second floor and as in previous comment, it has a shared balcony with no way to lock the window. Kind of weird. Patrick was lovely host. Again, not a 5 star place but try finding somewhere not a basement for 70 pounds a night in the heart of London near the tube, completely walkable and lovely Russell Park a block away. It is 100% what I expected.

Nice affordable place to stay in London, don’t expect much but for a few days it is ok, excellent location, very close to subway and bus stations, shops and the British museum, and the manager and staff were very kind.

Perfect location, very friendly staff, lovely rooms! One note - this place has four floors and no elevator - you might be in for a lot of stairs and a warm room (if the forecast is for a toasty week as mine was). Just a thing to be aware of if you're staying there :-)

All great things to say about Pickwick Hall. Both the building and room felt secure. The location was quiet, central and felt very safe. Our room was clean and comfortable. The owner, Patrick, is so sweet and was accommodating when we arrived before our room was ready and also held our luggage the day we left. Great value if you’re looking for somewhere safe, clean and simple.

Positives: quiet, tea & toast for breakfast, large rooms, excellent location Negatives: quite dilapidated inside - the floors are uneven, carpets coming up at the edges, holes in some of the walls, paint chipping off everywhere (worse than student accommodation), toilets didn't flush and no hot water in the shower, didn't get told any basic info by host, 1 bed was comfy but other uncomfortable with spring missing, felt a bit grubby Personally would not stay here again - price was not particularly cheap for 1 night.

Bring your own shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrush. Too many drawers and cabinets in a small room. Creaking floor and too many doors. Pillow smells like BO. Small fridge and microwave oven available.

A really great BnB. Patrick is a friendly and caring host. His breakfast is delicious and the rooms are quiet and very clean.

After having booked a room months ago I tried to contact the owner multiple times via the contact form, his email address and two different phone numbers and never got any answer at all. When I finally got him on the phone 5 days before our planned stay there, me being already in England at the time, he told me, quite unabashed, that the reason I had never gotten an answer was a double booking and he had no room for us anyway. He said something about not being able to see the double booking (having informed me two minutes before that that was the reason he had never answered) and looking for another room in another hostel for us and getting back to me the next morning at the latest, which of course he didn't, and when I called again he told me he needed some more time. I was then forced to book another hotel (It was the weekend of the London marathon, I don't think it is necessary to mention the availability and prices for this period when booking four days in advance...).

Not sure why this place has such high reviews, it's worn out and falling apart. Cracks and holes in walls, too warm also and hard to open windows. Positives are it was clean in the rooms and the shower was hot, and of course the location

For the price this place is great. The rooms are certainly in need of a lot of renovation but the cost, friendliness of staff and location make up for the fact the rooms are so poor. Didn't try the breakfast but it was a continental style.

For the price, this is amazing value for money. The rooms are warm, and the ones at the back are quiet. The beds could be comfier but again, value for money. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and willing to deal with any problems you might have, and the location is really central. Thank you so much for a nice stay!

Lovely staff, and very good value it is a cheap hostel in the centre of London however there are a few quirks and our door to our room didn't close.

Stayed here twice during a recent vacation. Great location - walkable. Private rooms were comfy. Liked that the rooms had their own sinks/mirrors. Friendly staff. The biggest con were the showers. They need drain cleanage asap. 2nd floor showerhead needs to be replaced as well.

Upon arriving we were shown where our room was and when breakfast was served. There's no one around when you needed to ask anything, I had no clue we could use the kitchen as there's no kettle in your room. There's no coffee, only tea. I couldn't get any extra pillows. Breakfast was literally toast, cereal and hot drinks. No water, no cold drinks. Don't know who was running the place apart from an old man.

Great location, simple and clean, attentive staff and affordable rates. What’s niot to love about this place?

The hostel is as described - clean, basic, great location for a reasonable price. However, the large window in my room could not be locked and opened onto a balcony that was shared with two other rooms. Felt unsafe as it could be potentially opened from the outside. Addressed this with the man working (lovely and helpful man) who tried contacting owner. Waited 2+ hours for owner to answer. Owner was v rude and did not appreciate my safety concerns, stated that it would be 'virtually impossible to get into the room (not very comforting for a young girl traveling alone). Gave out that I had not responded to the email he had sent while I'd been at work. I was very upset and distressed. Left the hostel and had to get accommodation elsewhere. Got a refund. Would not recommend.

I booked months before but had my booking cancelled on the morning of my arrival due to change in reservations. I suspect the room was rebooked for a higher price. My booking was transferred to an extremely tatty local hotel without kitchen facilities who also tried to charge me in addition to what I had already paid. Based on my experience, I suggest to avoid.

Fabulous 3 day stay here. Exceptional value for money when compared to private rooms in other hostels. Excellent location, lovely staff, breakfast included. Can't ask for more given the price you pay. Yes it is an older property but I would absolutely recommend it.
