The best Fish & Chips in town. Not Halal restaurants as they provide non -halal food and drinks but they claim their fish n chips are fried with peanut oil. So we only ordered seafood dishes. The restaurant is classically decorated but very pretty. Most importantly, the food is served with excellent taste but the sauce is very limited as it is bottled. Prices are very reasonable in this area.

Service was horrible. I waited for 30min and it was just me. I ordered fish and chips. They forgot about the only black man sitting in the entire place. The fish was ok. I got the halibut instead of the cod we eat in the states. It was ok not great. Yes they give you less here than you get in the states however they give you more fries. The best thing about the place was the music. Great blend of funk blues and RnB. They also have it in the restrooms. Nice plus

Poppies Fish and Chips is an absolute gem! From the moment you step inside, you're transported back to the 1950s with its fantastic retro-style decor. The ambiance is simply fabulous, creating a delightful dining experience. Now, let's talk about the food. The fish and chips here are not just good; they're exceptional. The taste is fresh and delicious, making every bite a savory delight. The batter is crispy, and the fish is perfectly tender. It's a taste of perfection! The attention to detail in both the decor and the food presentation shows the dedication of the restaurant's staff to providing a memorable experience. Whether you're a fan of the 1950s or simply appreciate top-notch fish and chips, Poppies is a must-visit. Your taste buds and nostalgia will thank you! Despite it being the end of the day and the staff possibly feeling tired, their friendliness and dedication to providing great service shone through. Their warm welcome and attentiveness to our needs made our visit even more enjoyable. It's evident that the team at Poppies Fish and Chips truly cares about their customers, and that's a testament to their commitment to excellence.

Best Fish And Chips we’ve had so far. Simple and straight to the point. We ordered both the Haddock and Cod versions. Delicious! Crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. Highly recommended! But do note to come either before or after the peak meal hours. The lines can get crazy long.

We got a server that seems new? We wanted to order two mains and a starter for the 4 of us because we were fairly full. The server said the fish is small and gestured about 5/6 inches in the air. He also said we should (but it felt like we had to) order 3 mains. One of our orders is a whole fish but he assured us that ALL the fish are about the same size. That aside, when it was time to pay, he rudely took the receipt out of my hand when I was looking at it so he can punch in the right numbers for the card machine. He could’ve politely asked. The food was very British, everything done right. But because of my experience guess who won’t be coming back. Also, there’s a takeaway shop right beside it. The food comes from the same kitchen and it costs less. Definitely give that a go.

What is a trip to London without having fish and chips? This was a stop I had to make, and of course, I had to try it at Poppies. After all, they're probably the most well-known restaurant for fish and chips. Well, all of it blew up when I was served my order. The fish was really bland and unseasoned. Thank God for salt and pepper shakers.

Admittedly, it was my first time trying fish and chips in London. The quality of the dishes was nice, as to be expected. We tried the cod fish and chips and the chicken pie. The service was quick, but given the simple menu I wouldn’t expect less. It was a little pricy I think for such simple dishes; £25 for fried fish and chips seems excessive. Overall, I’d recommend it if you’re in London trying London things but I don’t think it’s something worth going out of your way to try.

Awesome fish and chips experience in London! The place has been there since 1952 and if you love the authentic 50s atmosphere you'll love this place, which doesn't feel artificial in recreating that age! The fish is really good and the regular size is just enough. Small but good choice of drinks and beers as well!

Just a chip shop with nothing special in terms of service or atmosphere. Apparently this chip shop has been around awhile and had several famous people there apparently. As for the food, the halibut was more crispy and the cod was more buttery. The chips were thick and fluffy, but I would've preferred them to be crispier. Curry sauce was great for flavor, but it seemed to be diluted. Would've preferred if it wasn't so watery. Mushy peas were good. The beans I could have done without, nothing special.

Best Fish and Chips I’ve had. The batter was light and the fish was really fresh. The Haddock is fantastic. The halibut portion was a bit small tho for the price. The dessert was alright as well. Anyhow, it’s a must if you’re in London.

These might be the literal best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Sit-down quality food with fast food/short order speed! The atmosphere was very interesting and seeing how they packed a restaurant into this SOHO building was worth a visit in itself. While the beer selection was admittedly limited, the options on drought were delicious—a great way to have a heavy or light lunch and have a chat with some mates. Not too much else to say. It’s a great place for some fish and chips. Go if you want this amazing and authentic England staple. And don’t pass on the gherkin!

Best fish and chips I've had. I'm not an expert but have had my share. Flavorful haddock, nice light batter, excellent salty chips. Highly recommended.

We came to this place for their fish and chips (which were under-seasoned and underwhelming, although the chips were nice and fluffy), but we didn’t know how ASTOUNDING the sticky toffee pudding would be. It is hands-down the best I’ve tasted in my entire life. It’s served warm with vanilla ice cream, and it is soft and sweet without being overly sickly. We got one to share, and it was delicious! I’ve recommended Poppies’ sticky toffee pudding to numerous people, and they’ve all had rave reviews. Would come to London again just to have this sticky toffee pudding!

It was a disappointing experience... Not only did we wait in a long line, but we also ended up paying a whopping 12% service charge for mediocre yet overpriced meals. Despite them “mentioning” that the service charge was optional, all of this was discussed after the payment was taken. It was highly suspicious when they came directly with the POS device to withdraw money when we requested the bill. Despite the grievances of dozens of people, their continuation of this scam, especially for a restaurant with a high tourist density, is very upsetting.

Fresh fried cod in light batter, served with chips and tartar sauce. Had to eat this since its one of the UK's signature dishes, and I really love how soft and flaky the fish was. The batter was also light salted and you can add more salt on the side if you wish. Personally I found it to be perfect with the super crisp batter. The ice cream soda is also solid stuff. Worth every cent eating here! They have a service charge added automatically to the receipt but I didn't mind it since the service was good and prompt.

Excellent Piece of fish and candy to go for my son. The warmth and proximity of this place is something you can't match. Their signature Fish and chips is totally worth your belly. We also ordered a portion of mushy peas and every bite was a mouthful wonder. Thank you for a time check experience. Cheers!

One of the best fish and chip shops in the area, Poppies delivers in every regard. Me and my mate got a Haddock and chips and a pie and they were absolutely cracking. Loved every morsel, and will defo come back.

Great atmosphere etc and nice staff but value for money shocking. The picture is of my LARGE fish and chips for £23! I don’t know if it was just me because when I looked around the place the other diners had pieces of fish hanging over their plates, I had this tiny thing. Measly portion of chips too, all very disappointing because the taste of everything was delicious.

Food was better than expected. We had the cod, halibut and the sausage. The curry sauce is a must. Prices are not cheap. Service was great. Checking us from time to time.

Best fish and chips I have ever had. Really friendly wait staff. Very fast service. Price for a single fish dinner and a pint of beer was almost $50. But everything here is expensive.

Recommended by our cab driver to our hotel for a solid fish and chips, we went here for lunch shortly after checking into our hotel and a short walk around Westminster and it didn't disappoint. Easy to find as it's near to Chinatown and Leicester Square. It looks quiet from the outside, but it's indeed busy on the inside. We had both the harddock and cod, you can't go wrong with either but we've become haddock fans. Make sure to sprinkle a decent amount of malt vinegar in addition to the lemon wedge and tartare sauce. The fish and chips were super fresh and yummy, staff very friendly and a good atmosphere. Well worth a visit!

Our first London meal was an excellent one. We started off with jellied eels out of curiosity. Very much NOT our thing, but this appeared to be a good preparation. Easier to stomach with the chili vinegar and hot sauce. The fish and chips were outstanding. Massive piece of crispy fresh haddock served with lemon, tartar sauce, and best of all malt vinegar. Great chips too. And we really enjoyed the mushy peas! Finished off with sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Perfection. So perfectly rich and delicious.

Have you tried @popsfishnchips in Central London yet? Their lines are insane, and attests to the quality of their products! Also, strange addition - but the vinegar does add a certain zing to the meal ;) Did you know that the concept of battered fish with chips was introduced by Spanish and Portuguese Jewish immigrants to Great Britain in the 16th century?

The atmosphere is good, lovely place to spend some time for dinner. On the downside, when you ask for tap water, you are greeted with a small glass of water, do I have to ask for another one once finished? Isn't it easier to fill a jug? Fish was good, but nothing too extraordinary, anyway, too pricy. Chips were good, lovely little jar with the sauce in it. The fish cake was too dry, without a proper flavor. The sticky toffee pudding was okay, but the caramel itself was not too creamy, rather runny. I wouldn't take it again, same for the fish cake.

Everything in this place is perfect. The fish is really crispy, as well as the chips. Employees are so kind and helpful. The only thing i haven't liked at all are the small tables.

One of the best fish and chips in London. The Croat is super crunchy and cod is really fresh. I got the small portion of fish and chips and the size was pretty good for lunch. They also offer roasted chicken with curry sauce

Here is a decent fish and chips shop. However, it was very busy there as it is in Soho, of course. I ordered a hot seafood platter, and it was delicious. I love calamari and scampi the most, but tartar sauce is a bit meh for me as it was tiny with the very big fish&chips.

Glad I finally got to try fish and chips in London. The fish was fried nicely and was not greasy/oily. It went really well with the their in house tarter sauce.

Really giving the vibes needed for a fish and chips place. Fast service, very tasty. The sauces were great also. Friendly staff and it is worth the price. Would reccomend making a reservation though, we were lucky that we found a place, but from my understanding it is full all the time so better safe than sorry

Total scam! They charged us a 12.5% tip without asking us. The bill said “optional service charge” at the very bottom, but it’s very easy to overlook if you’re not meticulously checking and they don’t ask or inform you about this charge when they take your card to charge the bill. When we realized this it was already too late. On top of that, we ordered the calamari appetizer and got literally 4 small pieces of calamari and when we asked if that was the normal portion size, a man who appeared to be the supervisor seemed to be offended by my question and said “yes this is normal, welcome to London” and he even told my brother that he should “teach me how to act” because of my complaint. Very rude! I don’t recommend this place at all and will not be coming back.
