Great Cod and Chips. Light batter, large fish portion, good chips. 9/10. The finest chippy I've ever been to. Pricey but this is central London. Though it's well worth it, considering quality and taste. £15.95 + service charge Takeaway is cheaper

We didn’t had a much pleasing experience in this restaurant. It started with a relatively rude reception and order taking. Later, other clerks were more friendly. I was served with a long neck that was half way drank (they promptly replaced it). I ordered a fish and chips, but the food was ordinary, I expected a lot more taste coming from a place that is dedicated to serve fishes. Also, it was relatively expensive. The same plate at any pub served by Greene King, for example, is not also better, but doesn’t come with an embedded 12,50% service charge. The frying is done in the same ambient as the tables, therefore, we left smelling. Wouldn’t recommend.

IT WAS QUITE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! You guys will never guess the adventure i lived to come here, but it was comptely worth it. This is one of the best places to eat fish and chips in London and i would go through that crazy adventure 1 million times just to come and enjoy their fish and chips

we wanted to get some fish and chips but also wanted a place that wasn’t greasy and also offered alternatives so looked online and found Golden Union. It’s a relatively small place so there’s a wait but the service is pretty quick. we got the fist bits plus chips, battered halloumi and chips, a bread roll and gravy. the batter on fish and halloumi were really good and not greasy at all. the taste was good if not a bit bland - the gravy we got on the side definitely helped! the chips were average. portion size was really good as fish bites were really plentiful. the bread was extra and was basically a regular bun with lots of butter. overall a nice place to get good fish and chips and other!

Casual dining with no frills. There were a few empty tables when we arrived around 7pm on a weekday night. Waited to be seated as the server needed to set our tables. We ordered one portion of the Haddock & Chips and coleslaw to share as it looks pretty large (we’re glad we did because it was huge and my partner didn’t have much of an appetite). fo Food was decent but not mind blowing. I’m glad i added on a curry sauce later on as it went really well with the hand cut chips. Overall would return for a no frills and quick meal.

Ordered Cod fish. The batter wasn’t bad, fish was fresh, disappointing they didn’t have mushy peas, tartare dip was a highlight. Overall, not the best fish and chips I’ve had. The chips were below average in my personal opinion. Staff were very friendly. The atmosphere was good for what this restaurant has to serve, although it was a bit smelly inside, we left with some greasy smell in our clothes. Not a big deal but thought of mentioning it for the people in charge to look into the issue there if there is any.

Wanted to give a try after reading couple of reviews. However, food didn’t meet my expectations. Fish was lacking of taste and same goes to fried Halloumi as well. I’ve ordered coleslaw as side dish and it wasn’t tasted like a coleslaw at all.

Took my boyfriend here for a British fish and chips experience. Did not disappoint him ! We ordered the cod and the haddock, both were nice but we enjoyed the haddock better, there are other fish and non fish options as well. Everything was freshly cooked so food were served hot (which we love). We arrived around 14:00 and were served immediately but saw people arriving after us waiting a bit so probably avoid weekends meal time if you don’t want to wait in line.

This place’s atmosphere was amazing, it had such a cool 80’s diner vibe. There was a free digital jukebox and it was fun being able to play your own songs. And the food was great, especially the milkshake. The milkshake was light and fluffy/floaty while not lacking any taste and it had a homemade feel. Our waitress was Bianka, she was very sweet and helped us with the menu. Overall great experience.

Golden Union Fish Bar is the perfect place for those looking for good and fast food. The fish and chips is very well prepared and the place still offers typical English pastries and pastries

Excellent fish, good portions and perfect batter. It was very delicious. I tried it with the curry sauce and it was a pleasant surprise, really liked it. The chips were a let down though. Cold chips, and they sneakily loaded up my bowl with lots of tiny pieces of chips before covering it with normal size ones on top. They could have done better with the chips, or else it would have been perfect.

Out of all the central London chippies I’ve been to over the years, this is the one with the best fish without a doubt. Meaty, with airy batter, and crucially not too oily: it doesn’t sit like a brick in your belly once the pleasure has faded. Chips are fine. Vinegar could be stronger but you can’t have it all. And that’s a problem common to all chippies in the city.

Best fish and chips down south. Yorkshire tea! Great fresh fish - try the coley. Lovely staff and cool decor.

One of best fish and chips I have ever had! We ordered onion chips on the side and that was also so tasty. Fish was not so greasy and all and the decoration inside is really beautiful, giving that 80s vibe. Price is a bit expensive though, therefore 4/5.

Nice place for a quick meal in London. The size of fish was great and the chips (fries) it came with were also nice. Service was quick I do wish that the fish was served on top of some paper or on a drip tray as was swimming in its own oil a bit, which made it a bit soggy as I was eating. It also does not feel great to have a pool of oil sitting on the bottom of the plate.

10/10 great experience at golden union. Friendly staff and bustling with people! Could be little crowded but food is great. Took a little longer than I expected since it was at peak dinner time. Portion is huge so if you can’t finish it, ask for take away box.

We tried both the haddock and Pollock and both were delicious. It was quite a large serving but the batter was so light and the fish was so juicy that it was so easy to eat the entire platter.

Excellent place in London but it is definitely London prices compared to your local fish and chips place so beware! Around lunchtime there is quite a wait for the food as I think the kitchen is small. The food was good and decent portions, too.

I loved visiting here on vacation! It's the best fish and chips I have ever had! There's a free jukebox to play songs you like and its wonderfully cozy especially on a rainy day! 10/10 will come back next time.

The fish was delicious but the chips were a little bit of a letdown. They were a little cold and dry. The fish was amazing however. The portions were also very generous. All in all we liked it.

We simply love this place! We visit London 2-3 times a year and whatever happens, we always end up here. And - just to be completely honest - between these visits, we also dream about coming back for the best fish and chips we ever had. Definitely give it a try and order the large tartar to your meal! 🤤

Had "Fish Bites & Chips" with "tartar sauce (additional charge)" "Cherry Coke" had to wait for a table for few minutes but worth waiting and dining here. The fish bites were great! It was very delicious "crunch outside soft inside". Even though I was full when I had the half, I just couldn't stop myself from eating the rest. However, service was decent (just taking an order and bring us the food), when we had to pay a gratuity for dine-in in addition to the price of the food.

The place to have proper fish and chips in town and locals know it! There can be waiting for a table for at least 30 minutes but it is worth it! The chips with vinegar are perfect and the fish is freshly made. The batter on it is light, fluffy and crunchy. Just perfect. I had a pickled egg as well. Not the best tasting egg. I would have kept it longer pickled but that didn't diminish my experience. If you are willing to dosh out, you could even have prosecco with your oder for laughs. Alternatively there is a good selection of beers and ciders. Highly recommended for locals and tourists.

We popped by for dinner during our London hols. The place was packed but they were able to accommodate us. The ambiance is a bit like the Happy Days milk bar (if you're old enough to remember Happy Days) with a free jukebox. But we're not there for the ambiance but for the fish and chips. It was great.. the batter was so light and also not oily. The fish was done just nice. The chips were also nicely done. They had this cute tomato ketchup bottle. We had fish and chips from another shop in Paddington (we didn't feel like getting out) but this was much much better than what we had. Will definitely return to visit when we return to London for whatever reason.

We chose this spot because they offer a plant based menu that caters to vegans and specially came here to try the pies which were disappointingly all sold out when we arrived for dinner. We were going to leave but our server told us the vegan “fish” (made of banana blossom) was one of the best vegan options there. Hesitant at first, as we are vegans who don’t like dishes that actually resemble meat or seafood, but we were pleasantly surprised since it was flavoured nicely and actually felt like we were having a flaky banana blossom and not something that looked and tasted like fish. The vegan tartar sauce and curry sauce were excellent compliments to the meal! The gravy is also vegan but was okay. Chips were nice but not the best I’ve had. It was okay in the end and satisfying.

Fish is very fresh, I had cod and it was yummy. However the seatings are a bit squashed, we sat at a 2 people table and there is a table right next to us and another 2 strangers were sitting there, it was a bit like sharing table, & there is another seat right behind, I had to move the table a bit forward so my husband could have enough space as there is another person sitting right behind him. Four people table were more spacious though. Waitresses were friendly, they asked if we liked the fish and made sure everything was ok.

Note to self: Haddock is the only proper fish and chip. Yummy. Other fish, no yummy Mushed peas really taste like mushed peas . Baby barfed all out 🤮 Avoid scampi. Suspicious nuggets of seafoo Fries are great. Gravy is da bomb Cornish ochard golden cider taste yummy No brainer cider smells heavily of fermented cheese. Not for the faint hearted. I didn't mind it. Staff is great. They washed my baby cutlery for me. Toilet is lonely. They can do with more toilets

Awesome, laid back spot serving a British stable. Not just serving but executing it flawlessly. The "it" in question is fish and chips. The fish is fried to perfection, leaving you with a light, crispy crust and delectable fish that you can taste and enjoy. The crisps (fries) are plentiful. Do yourself a favor and get the house made tarter sauce. I highly recommend Golden Union.
