Absolutely love coming here. Nice food reasonably priced and a great community atmosphere. The vibe and energy is great and the staff are super friendly. The food menu is delicious and the portion control is just right.

Perhaps unusually, we were at the Standard on a Friday for a wedding al though we usually meet here for a few drinks. However, as usual, the staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious and the venue bright, clean and nicely laid out and the drinks reasonably priced. So very thankful that our friends had their wedding celebration here.

I popped into the Standard for a Sunday lunch and was not disappointed! Beef was juicy and tender, roast potatoes crispy and soft inside, good portion of vegetables too. Staff were very friendly and attentive; even when they were very busy with several large tables (book to avoid disappointment). Will definitely be back!

I put that rating as I didn't actually leave the table I was sat at! One of the staff, did approach and ask if everything was ok and if we had everything that we needed, which I found to be very helpful. I will visit again at some point, but this was my first ever visit!

Just finished lunch at this amazing pub. Food was incredible..Nachos were beyond ....Prawns with feta ...succulent and so fresh and the 4 of us had roasts .....all plates were empty... The three bar staff went above and beyond....visiting from Amsterdam to see family and I will have to go back before I leave.

My wife and I visited when they had a big band and charity afternoon. We were instantly assisted in getting in with my wife's wheelchair. It was beginning to be busy but we managed to find a table. We enjoyed our meal. The band were great and we happily made a donation. Staff were great serving quickly. They also cleared the way to the disabled toilet. They showed us out the back way to avoid the crowded area by the band. We had a great few hours with a great atmosphere.

We used this venue for a team building evening and could not be more impressed with the pub. It was quite busy when we were there but the staff, even though obviously busy, were very polite and attentive. The food came within 15 minutes and was absolutely delicious… Thanks guys for letting us host, we’ll see you soon again 😍🙏🏼

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the best pub in Blackheath , and it exceeded all expectations. The atmosphere was lively, and the staff, not only lovely but also exceptionally good looking, added an extra charm to the place. The service was top-notch, I cannot wait to visit again this Saturday. This pub has truly set the bar high for a memorable night out. Highly recommended!

Amazing pub. Great community spirit serving top notch food served by friendly competent staff. They’ve got the ambience just right with their lighting and volume of music. Loads of space and family friendly.

Caroline, the manager, was very friendly and welcoming as I introduced myself as new to the neighbourhood. Fish and chips were A+ (though I like my peas a little mushier). Nice to see Guinness 0.0 on offer, and have already told someone else about it. The El Bar Malbec was superb. All in all we had a great meal and will return again.

I like this pub very much BUT. The Standard is an iconic landmark and indeed the entire area around it takes its name from the pub. The bus stop is registered as Blackheath Royal Standard and it defines the difference between what is a real community and the slightly pretentious Village across the Heath. Essentially it is the local boozer and as such more than fulfills its role. The food is excellent in my experience if a little overpriced and the atmosphere could best be described as laid back. But therein lies the problem. As a visitor rather than a local, I note a certain sleepiness among the staff. They’re always pretty friendly but you could come away with the impression that they’re over reliant on the historical status of the venue and don’t need to try too hard. I’m being hypercritical but with another 15% of energy, it would get 5 stars from me no problem.

It seems I gave the Standard a 3* review six years ago... Either it or I must have had a bad day. Seeing as I regularly come here for a quick beer; occassionally for the great food and sometimes for the music... I thought it was about time to update my entry. It gets 5*'s all the way now. Love this place.

Nice pint. Nice pub, looks very nice, comfy seats. Rather expensive though, nearly 10 quid for a glass of wine!

Had a great day/night in this pub for our works Xmas meal. The staff were amazing being so friendly and helpful. The landlady Caroline couldn’t do more for us and made our meal and time really nice. We will be coming back on a regular basis and couldn’t recommend it more. The guy with the tash was very friendly & helpful as well 😊

Went to see a gig - excellent. The first thing was the friendliness and service from all of the staff (bar tenders & chef) but ALL OF THEM. From laughing at my bad jokes, to food recommendations & willingness to alter ingredients (all of the spicy stuff had something sugary/sweet with it - not my bag). The portions are generous and the food quality is EXCELLENT! The cauliflower wings are not listed - they were great

Food, service and atmosphere very good. Unfortunately all real ales were off apart from one that tasted like grapefruit juice. Also music being played was a bit too loud to enjoy normal conversation.

Always a joy to visit this pub. Friendly staff, lovely food and a great choice of beer in tap. Great to see the craft beers changing regularly so always something new to try, add the nduja croquettes to a must try, amazing!

I’ve been a regular at the royal standard for 7 years now… ever since Caroline and Mark took over. In that time they have turned the pub into a hub of the community. It’s very much and family pub and has great entertainment. The service is always great and their staff are always friendly and attentive. The food is also really good every time we’ve eaten there. I feel compelled to write this review because I noticed the very unfair 2 start review somebody have them on Christmas Eve… if people would only take a moment to consider how hard these people work in order to look after their guests, especially over this busy period, they may be less eager to write such petty reviews. Well done Royal Standard, we appreciate you.

We had a lovely time at the Royal Standard for our Christmas Day meal. Our party had some challenges (e.g. 1 person in a wheelchair) and the staff accommodated us beautifully all the way through, right from the way they had set up our table. They were clearly busy, but always took the time to look after us when we needed it. The food was tasty and came out in a timely but not rushed way, and it was very helpful having a hamburger on the children's menu for one of our party. There is an attached car park too which was very helpful for us in terms of access and convenience. I would go back if we find we want to go out for Christmas Day again.

What a great pub! great atmosphere, great food and friendly professional staff. Great music and events here too , its such a treat to have in the area. New Years Eve here was especially good and real a blast, really well put together and the atmosphere and vibes were fantastic.

Lovely pub, warm atmosphere and very friendly, helpful staff. Christmas lunch was great and good value. A slight delay on last course but the Prosecco and truffles more than made up for it

Visited recently for a wedding reception. Great venue, lovely staff and tasty food. Definitely a venue worth considering for an event - decent amount of indoor and outdoor space and they're definitely up for a party. My only (minor) criticism was that the only non-alcoholic beer was only of the insipid ones...think it was Peroni. Would be lovely to see another bottled option (Ghost Ship, Brooklyn) or even one on tap.

Lovely clean pub with a great food menu, service and outside area. 4 of us came in to have some food and drinks and nothing was a problem for the staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit!

Big cow burger + halloumi fries were great. Delivery experience flawed by 2 fails: the minor one they possibly accepted too many orders, it seems Deliveroo could not find a rider available so order had to be redone with little delay. The major one is represented by the little pieces of bamboo that can be seen sprouting out on the left. I hadn't realised they were pieces of the burger skewer and accidentally chewed one. Luckily I am not a child and I didn't swallow it but that never should happen; they also added a slice of bacon (not listed in the ingredients), I don't eat bacon and I assume they did it to make up for the delay but better add a drink, there are people that cannot eat some items, for religious reasons or allergies. Just use thicker and stronger skewers and perhaps check the contents before sending out the order.

Walked in after a busy day, tongue driving me to the bar!! Meet by a friendly face (Mark I believe?) offered me a pint of choice, booth to sit and menu to browse, even got a complement on my attire 😁👍. Ordered food, prompt, lovely and well priced. Overall very good experience

We come here regularly for drinks, for meals and for the Vicar's Knickers Pub quiz which is absolutely the highlight of our week. It's not for those who like a serious quiz with questions about quantum physics and the like, but a light-hearted but of fun which cheers up Tuesday nights enormously. The Standard is such a lovely pub, with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is consistently tasty and they have a good selection of wines, beers and soft drinks. They're big supporters of live music too. Hope Caroline and Mark never leave, and extra an shout-out to Alfie for all round awesomeness

Came to our friends local Pub for one final evening out in Blackheath before we made our way back home. The food menu had a descent selection for a pub. We started out with a Mac & Cheese bite appetizer. They were creamy and delicious. They went down in no time. I then decided to try my very first Scotch Egg. The meat exterior was very flavorful. It was very good, I will definitely be looking for these back home. I then had the Crab Cakes main course that came with Potatoes. The food was all very tasty. An overall great meal for our group. The service was very good and very friendly and the atmosphere was great. I really enjoyed my experience here and will definitely be visiting again when we return.

We come here reasonably regularly for drinks and the service is always prompt and the staff are always very friendly (even on a Friday evening) and competent. The food here is also excellent, and special thanks must go to one of the waitresses, Katharine, who always goes above and beyond to be polite to customers and to deliver the highest quality of service. She's awesome - just awesome - and I would strongly recommend her boss give her a pay rise or, better yet, make her manager. Can't speak highly enough of her :))

Following a great day out in the sunshine we didn't feel much like cooking, so popped into the Standard for a great warm weather early evening dinner. I had the pan-fried salmon special, and the Pecan & Cranberry tart + vanilla ice cream as a great sharing pudding. Nice relaxed dining all served by friendly young folk. Excellent start to Sunday evening.

We had wonderful time with a large company - friends with kids on Sunday afternoon. Very good beer range. Also the wine list was recognizable and not bad at all. Proper kitchen. Friendly staff! Enough to go back!

So visited for the first time with a large family group for a family funeral. The food was good, the service was great and the atmosphere was good despite the very loud quiz. I will return because it made a possibly grisly event far less horrible and the way that the staff worked with the family great to see. Well worth a visit and promoted above other pubs in the area.

We’re locals, and have been visiting the RS for years. We like the atmosphere mostly, we can meet friends and take our dog, and on the whole the staff are great. What let’s it down time and again is the food, or more specifically the lack of items on the menu. Almost without fail, the items we want are not available, last time it was steak, chicken schnitzel, chicken for the salad and sausage and mash. We were a group of 5, walk-ins at about 6.30 for dinner, and we ended up leaving after one drink because nothing we wanted was available. We used to joke that we needed to have at least 2 preferences from the menu before ordering so we had a chance of getting something we wanted. So we won’t be going back for meals, which is a shame because it’s otherwise a good local pub.

Been going here since I moved to the area last year and love it - staff are lovely and friendly (shout out to Little Joe!) and there’s always a really good vibe. Food is great too and music always on point. Thanks Guys! X

Extremely kind and welcoming staff! Exceptionally good Gin & Ginger Ale’s and the overall atmosphere is extremely relaxed and welcoming. We are in London for a quick trip but definitely making multiple trips throughout our visit.

Mark the lovely landlord always amazing when we come by and on this trip Joe who served us has amazing 5* service and helped out our very big table! Food was fantastic with a good wife range of options! Can’t wait to come back again!

I just want to complement the staff on how friendly and efficient they are and the Landlord and landlady Mark and Caroline who run a tight ship and know hospitality in an age where pubs are a dying breed! Worth a visit if you’re in Blackheath! They wont disappoint! Nice!

The Royal Standard is an absolute gem of a pub in the heart of Blackheath. From the moment you step through the door, you're welcomed by the friendly staff and the warm, cozy atmosphere. The decor is charming and traditional, with plenty of character and a homely feel. The food is exceptional, with a great selection of classic British pub dishes as well as some more contemporary options. Everything is cooked to perfection, using only the freshest and highest quality ingredients. Whether you're looking for a hearty meal or just a light snack, you won't be disappointed. The drinks selection is equally impressive, with a great range of beers, wines, spirits, and cocktails. The bar staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and always happy to help you choose the perfect drink to accompany your meal. But what really sets The Royal Standard apart is the service. The staff are incredibly attentive and always go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, you'll be treated like royalty. Overall, I can't recommend The Royal Standard highly enough. It's the perfect pub for a cozy evening with friends, a romantic dinner for two, or a lively night out. If you're in Blackheath, make sure you pay this fantastic pub a visit.
