HORRIBLE experience!! I would give them a negative star if it were possible! They do not care about student concerns and take several months to address your issues.Their response rate is even worse than some of the universities in my country South Africa!

The students and some teachers are what make this place, but as an institution it is rotten. Going against its own ideals through countless amoral practices and delaying student graduations from covid classes until December when other unis in London provided them months ago. Uni admin is useless at providing timely support and at most instances will stop replying without solving the issue.

SOAS was once a prestigious and respectable institution, however, in recent years the quality of teaching has become very poor. The SOAS administration is non existent. They never reply to emails and if they do it is 2 months later. You can send emails to the head of department, the board of directors, the chairman, the president, it doesn’t matter, they won’t answer. You can phone them, and they are clueless and useless and tell you to email. This university doesn’t care about students and offers zero support to them, it doesn’t care cause it makes so much money of international students, and lives of its historic prestige. My advice: don’t go to SOAS as your money will be better spent on literally anything else.

Nice location lovely place to spend academic time at. Events free to the public are often part of their events so well worth keeping an eye on.

Thee entrance to the main building has been redesigned and is absolutely stunning. Lots of photo opportunities for students, graduands, alumni, etc. New reception area as well with screens and more. Not just the front entrance has had a face lift but the foyers on every floor have been refreshed. There's new style sitting on each floor with tables that can be used as a study or chill out space. There's also a new canteen in the Paul Wembley Wing that's open for 2 hours everyday and serves really good food.

I wouldn't recommend this university because they let this type of person continue to be leaders: Jack Lee - the president of SOAS Korea Society, said in his official post he only wants like-minded people. He is a racist and he pushes back some nationalities and makes the culture here unhealthy.

One of five UK national research libraries, with great collections of books in many languages of Africa, Asia and Middle East.

DO NOT ATTEND SOAS. Teaching is fantastic, but not worth the appalling behaviour of the administrative staff. Spend hours asking for very simple changes to be made. Would recommend any student to stay clear of SOAS.

SOAS saved my life - I can’t put it any more plainly than that. If people have bad experiences here - it’s because they don’t know how hard life can be or what redemption looks like.

The online master program is decent, but not exceptional. It is mostly reading a bunch of pdf documents and writing some papers. There are no live or recorded lectures. I have, however, had one course “tutor” who was exceptional, and I hope to have him again. The online administration is horrendous! Every term so many students have difficulty registering for the next course. I have recently registered for my 3rd term and none of the registrations have gone smoothly. For a supposedly world class university, IT (online admin) is unbelievably disappointing.

1- star review for the lack of student support. Email any admin point of contact, and you will never hear back. I have reached out numerous times to mitigating circumstances, appeals, online student support, with no success. But it does not stop there. Markings are inconsistent among instructors. There is no standard grading process, as it is complete bias based on the instructors own opinion. Instructors change questions the week the assignment is due. Weight of markings change without notifying students. They leave harsh feedback, enforce their own political opinion. Write an academic paper against their views and be prepared to fail. SOAS continues to disrespect students with their behavior. They lack basic ethics and professionalism a university should have. Stop banking off of international students, respect your students and their perspectives. Practice professionalism by responding to students timely. Notify changes to students in a reasonable timeframe. But most of all, support your students. I regret going to school here. It has been the worst decision I made in my life.

I’m really disappointed by what the new management has done to the building over the summer. It used to be a comfortable and friendly space, now it’s been modernised and securitised to the point of feeling very unwelcoming. I probably won’t be coming to campus to study when there’s so many alternative cosy spaces around Bloomsbury that don’t seem as hostile to students.

I found bed bugs in some upholstered furniture at SOAS. I contacted multiple admin teams and I haven't had any kind of response from them. Students and staff beware 🙃

Despite all negative feedback. I really like this place and I have many great memories here. I keep on going back year after year for events or to meet professors or colleagues

I have studied for a summer school in NGOs and Social Movements:The Politics of Protest and change for three weeks on campus few years ago in 2016.The location in Bloomsbury is very cosmopolitan and the course is very deluxe verified from University of London on campus and it can be a classical qualification as School of Oriental and African Studies, University London.Participation in the course was one of the key elements of this three week summer school programme.Students from around the world 🌎 can be met at this University.

I had a shocking and traumatic experience simply trying to enter SOAS as a guest student. I was harassed by a member of staff who yelled at me repeatedly and refused to let me in the building whilst reception completely ignored the situation… not coming back.

As per usual, it was amazing!!!! - what a delightful fusion of educational unity, a sight for weary disillusioned eyes, a veritable feast of colour, language, movement and celebration of difference - fascinating 😀

This is an honest review of the current situation of law students at SOAS, which I feel as though A level students who are making their university choices need to be aware of. There is undeniably a huge level of friction and miscommunication between law students and SOAS staff. If you ever email admin or student support, expect no response or a really late response. Staff delete students comments on forums and reprimand students for expressing their respectful views about how they feel on certain situations. Although SOAS claims to moderate coursework and examinations, there are significant inconsistencies in the level of marking and feedback provided by academic staff which seriously needs to be investigated because it has detrimental impacts on students overall performance in their degree and affects their whole future. How can they expect students to perform well or improve if the feedback is inadequate and non-existent? Keep in mind students pay £9250 per year for their guidance and advice. Most importantly, this year the examination format for law students at SOAS has changed considerably in comparison to other law departments in other universities. SOAS expect second year law students to sit three hour timed examinations, where there are two or three questions per module and the word count is 1200 words for each question. Whereas other universities notably Warwick, UCL, QMUL etc have considerably longer exam times than SOAS students, which puts us at an unfair and unjust disadvantage. Furthermore, there are other departments within SOAS which have 24 hour and 48 hour examinations. SOAS displays a huge lack of respect and professionalism as students were notified of this change at the end of March and one month before students have to sit these examinations. Also, throughout the year students were told to email and petition to different members of staff and were told at the last moment who actually has power over the exam format. As a result, students now feel stressed, disrespected and defeated as their emotions and interests were played with. SOAS needs to learn to respect their students and notify them of important information and changes well in advance. Please do not disadvantage yourself by coming to such an institution.
