This
is
a
superb
college,
within
the
heart
of
Oxford.
Only
women
were
once
permitted
to
study
here,
but
in
recent
times
it's
now
mixed.
Somerville
is
probably
one
of
the
most
inclusive
colleges
and
somewhat
more
relaxed,
than
others.
The
attractive
grounds
are
immaculately
kept,
with
interesting
planting
throughout
the
year.
Students
are
allowed
to
sit
on
the
lawns,
which
is
not
something
other
colleges
will
entertain.
It's
a
secure
place,
as
all
entry
points
are
fitted
with
heavy
gates
and
card
readers.
The
dining
hall
is
empowering,
as
portraits
of
significant
female
figures
adorn
the
walls.
If
you
are
fortunate
enough
to
be
invited
to
a
Formal,
the
service
and
food
is
very
good
with
three
courses
and
most
dietary
requirements
covered.
Take
your
own
drinks.
If
you
are
visiting,
limited
parking
spaces
are
available
on
the
adjacent
streets
with
1,
or
2
hour
slots.
Larger
car
parks
are
a
5
minute
walk
away.
The
location
is
excellent
with
bars,
restaurants
and
shops
closeby.
Somerville
has
a
'locals'
feel
to
it,
as
quaint
Victorian
properties
line
the
streets.
For
those
who
enjoy
rural
areas,
Port
Meadow
is
near
by.
Located
next
to
the
river
Thames,
it's
a
fabulous
place
for
running
and
swimming.
Somerville
accommodation
includes
older
and
more
modern
buildings.
Students
are
responsible
and
respectful
of
communal
areas,
which
are
kept
reasonably
clean
and
tidy.
Professional
cleaning
staff
attend
every
week.
Bike
racks
are
available
and
dotted
around
the
campus.
A
marvellous
place
to
study.
