Queen's House is a former royal residence built between 1616 and 1635 in Greenwich. It is the centre of Greenwich for hundreds of years, the beautiful Queen's House has also been at the heart of royal life. The Queen’s House is famous today for its extraordinary art collection including works by Great Masters such as Gainsborough, Reynolds, Turner and Hogarth. And don't forget to see the iconic Armada Portrait of Elizabeth I, climb the Tulip Stairs (many saw ghosts here), etc.

I spent a delightful hour exploring the Queen's House in Greenwich, taking in the beautiful art inspired by naval themes and Greenwich itself. The Tulip Stairs are breathtaking, and the Great Hall, with its black and white geometric tiles, is equally impressive. The architecture of the building is also noteworthy. With no entrance fee, it's definitely worth a visit if you're nearby. However, it might not be very engaging for children due to the prevalence of old master style paintings and the numerous stairs.

Very interesting to be able to visit the actual house of Queen Elizabeth the 1. Very beautiful house and the meridian line is just up the hill. Very good to take children and learn a bit more of British history.

This bright white villa was at the cutting edge of architecture and design when it was completed in the 1630s. During the 17th century the Queen's House was a royal 'House of Delights': a luxurious retreat for Kings and Queens, a place of pleasure for court favourites. Btw it’s the heart of Greenwich.

I had a great experience visiting The Queen's House in Greenwich. The architecture of the building is really prominent. There is a gorgeous hall and a magnificent spiral stair: The Tulip staircase. The exhibition of portraits is one of the best I have seen ever. Staff is very friendly. I want to come back to see the gallery more in detailed.

The entry for Queens House is completely free. We need atleast 30-40 min to see the House. Their are many paintings, Armoury, jewellery... Particularly the paintings are just wow.. it looks so real... The closet station is Greenwich station. It's about 5-10 min walk from Station. Close to Queens House you have other attractions like Marine Museum, Observatory, Greenwich Park.... All these are must visit place.

Anyone visiting London should also visit this area, including the Queen's House, which was designed by architect Inigo Jones and sparked a design revolution when it was completed. For four hundred years you gaze admiringly at these masterpieces. I was most impressed by the spiral staircase, which I think is absolutely wonderful.

I had an amazing time visiting and exploring the Queen's House in Greenwich. It's definitely worth a visit since admission is free. The location is great as it is near the National Maritime Museum and Greenwich Park, which means you can spend the whole day exploring the area. The Tulip Stairs are a must-see, they are beautiful and breathtaking. The Queen's House itself has an amazing architecture that is worth seeing and photographing too.

While in Greenwich we spent an enjoyable hour in the Queen's House. Initially we went there to see the Armada portraits of Queen Elizabeth I which didn't disappoint but we saw so many other interesting portraits and sculptures while we were there. I thought we would be straight in and out but that wasn't the case with lots to see. Recommended.

The Queen's House is one of the most important buildings in the history of British architecture, being the first consciously classical building to be built in Great Britain. open to the public daily, free of charge, along with the museum's other galleries and the 17th century Royal Greenwich Observatory, which is also part of the National Maritime Museum.

🫅🧭🏛️⛲🏰🌐🗾Queens house former royal residence between 1600's . It's architecture done by indigo Jones. It became a famous art work home now. It's famous for it architectural similarity to roman construction. It's quite different from other British buildings. The house is now primarily used to display the museum's substantial collection of marine paintings and portraits of the seventeenth to twentieth centuries, and for other public and private events. It is normally open to the public daily, free of charge, as well as other museum galleries .

A great starting point for anyone spending the day in the Greenwich area. Enjoy the queen's house but before going in remember to donate (these marvelous museums are keep in perfe t shape thanks to donations), next scan the qr code so you'll have the audio tour. It will enhance the experience of every room, marvel yourself with the sights and the data from the guides, perfevt match. Take your time and enjoy, recommend to always look up, some of the best decorations and mural are on the ceilings, so look up. Wonderful place, mesmerizing environment and even better locaticon, you can spend plenty of time just enjoying the gardens with a cup of tea, coffee or just gazing at the horizon. Next you should definitely go to National Maritime museum, right next to Queen's house and if you are still hungry for more.. go to the 02 and get a ticket for the Upatthe02. Best way to end the day

The Greenwich area overall is one that I recommended checking out, between the Queen’s House and the Naval College there is a lot to see, specially on a rainy day! The house hosted some great art and there are finishes within the home which are really detailed and rich. Check out the conservation in action area and speak to artist restoring marvelous works of art

Queen's House is worth a visit whilst in Greenwich. It's free to visit and not far from the Old Royal Naval College, so you can make a day of it if you're a history buff. Queen's House has loads interesting artifacts and paintings. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. It's suitable for all age groups

Lovely gallery at the Queen's House in Greenwich. I always feel so humbled compared to great artists in history. Many portraits of the royals and friends of the Court, but also a lot of naval inspired motives. I quite liked the modern inspired selection the gallery also offered with an interesting point of view in the current society we live in.

One of London's lesser-known gems, and one of my favourite places to visit. Stunning, evocative paintings (mainly naval themed) draw you in and take you back in time to a world that was. The Queen's House is the perfect home to these works, so restful and peaceful, allowing you to go at your own pace and to take it all in without distraction. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful, and love to share their knowledge with you if you ask. And of course, it's in Greenwich, such a lovely place to visit any time of the year.

The staff was also incredibly nice and knowledgeable. Going the extra mile to explain stuff and recommend what to see. Give it a try - it's free.

Finding The Tulip Stairs by chance was like finding a hidden gem in Greenwich. I loved how they showcased the entire house with such detail and care. I highly recommend visiting if you're walking along Greenwich Park or visiting Greenwich Museum. The crew staff were very friendly and warm. The toilets were okay, it was kept clean and tidy but had some issues with flushing. Overall, it was a great find.

This is a medium size art gallery/museum located in the historical 'Queen's House' adjacent to Greenwich Park and a short stroll from Greenwich town centre. Free admission is a major plus point. The artworks on display are primarily maritime with others relating to the royal connection of this site. There is quite a lot to take in but the museum is well laid out with a specific route to take through the building. In addition there is an explanation of the use of each room. The attendants also were helpful and informative.

It looks beautiful from the outside, like a good place to have an event or a wedding, definitely photo shoot from the outside. Once you enter and start looking around all you see is paintings on walls and that is it. No furniture what so ever, it's like the place was completely robbed but left the paintings behind. At least the entrance was free because its not worth more than that.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! The experience was incredible, that we could enjoy the art works devoted to the kings and queens in their rooms. Imaging how they’d meticulously scrutinise the portraits, the paintings in the era without photography. Impressive, very impressive. Come and take the tour. Worth the time.

A fine and historically important paladian house by Inigo Jones. Visit a bit spoilt by the intrusive racket of "music" that someone decided was appropriate for a display of Woburn treasures.

  • 3/5 Robin R. 1 year ago on Google
An amazing place that was absolutely packed when we visited. Given that it's free I'm sure that was also the appeal. Filled with a vast collection of paintings and naval history, and for someone not especially interested in seamen it was still a joy to experience. We booked tickets ahead but people seemed to be entering on the day itself without a reservation, but given that they are free tickets it's no harm in booking ahead!

Beautiful construction near Greenwich Park. The House was Queen Henrietta Maria residence. It is an amazing construction, very well maintenance. The building it is from the 1600’s. Today together with the other Royal Greenwich’s Museums has the world’s largest collection of the leading marine artists of the 17’s. The insides rooms, are not very amazing, except for the ceiling of the kings’s room that is really gorgeous and the queen’s ceiling room as well. Also, the tulip stairs effect it is beautiful. It is worthy to visit as it is free entrance.

I found the Queen's House art gallery very entertaining with a good variety of paintings and sculptures, in cluding some very famous works. I was lucky enough to attend at a time when the Woburn Collection (from Woburn Abbbey in Bedfordshire) was on loan to the gallery. This included several very well known works, most excitingly a portrait of a triumphant Elizabeth I, pictured in her most regal finery with a backdrop of windows giving on scenes of the defeat of the Spanish Arnada. Particularly interesting was to contrast the Woburn version with that already owned by the Greenwich museums, which was displayed next to it. I combined this with two other great visits - to the Maritime museum and the Cutty Sark. I also wandered the Thames footpath and the large, pleasant Greenwich park as well as having a stroll around the vicinity of the Royal Observatory. All of these great and contrasting sites are withing a very short walk of each other, making for a superb day out. The Queen's House Gallery is free to enter but you must book a slot during the covid crisis.

Had to wait until after lock down for the Queen’s House to reopen to have a chance to go see the Armada portraits but it was well worth the wait! I booked online for the ‘free’ admission and it was a smooth and easy process. Even if you just go to see the three Elizabeth I Armada portraits it is worth it though once there you will spend a lot longer looking at all the other interesting exhibits they have! After all for a long while this was pretty much the home of the Kings and Queens of England! The views down to the Thames from the Great Hall and the spiral staircase are also beautiful! Definitely worthwhile making time to go visit and often forgotten when visiting all the other places around Greenwich.

It's Situated next to Greenwich Park. Is a former royal residence used nowadays as a tourist attraction. It's a nice place to visit especially for painting lovers. The closest public transport stops are DLR Cutty Shark and Greenwich station or bus stops National Maritime Museum stop G and F. The River Thames is in close walking distance. Other attraction close by are the National Maritime Museum, Old Royal Naval College, or you can take a nice walk in Greenwich park see the Roy Observatory or just seat and look at the sunset over London.
