😠 Wow. Has this gym ever been maintained or upgraded? The equipment is rusting, many broken, and plastic seating nearly ripped on all the equipment. Such a shame - being a centrally London gym that it has been forgotten about. Sadly, I won’t be returning. People often mention equipment, staff, friendly, great, good, clean, busy, Great, machines, weights,

I like this location! Generally less busy than other locations, which is great news for me! Great facilities and equipments, 2 floors gym, lift service for anyone who can't walk down the stairs, hand sanitisers in place, water taps and refreshments available, personal trainers on the floor for any assistance, nice people no trouble.

Waterloo London Gym downgrade! My branch was closed for 10 days for an upgrade. Us members have put up with a lot of rubbish, especially in the last year. At one point 7 machines were out of action for multiple months, with others in a serious state of disrepair. The gym reopened Wed 16th Aug. We are still missing 9 pieces of equipment. • Seated Leg Curl • Converging Chest Press • Lateral Raise • Diverging Seated Row • Diverging Lat Pull Down • Preacher Curl Bench • Landmine Post/Attachment • Prone Leg Curl • Triceps Press In some cases the new machines have arrived with less weights/plates (e.g Rear Delt/Pec Fly, Legg Press). I flagged this up to the Waterloo Gym Manager. She told me this was how it may stay? Obviously, that is ridiculous. You cannot expect gym members to start going backwards in their progress. Amazingly the gym manager seemed unable to grasp this. In addition, the replacement machines are missing arms with options for disk weights, and the single 2.3kg weights have gone. Can The Gym Group tell us when we will have the above items back? I have been a continuous member for 6 years. Worked hard to progress my training and build muscle. Now left with holes in my training and can no longer train as heavy. How is that an upgrade? Pics show the missing equipment.

Have been going to this gym for a few years, was glad that an upgrade had taken place, though I had zero notifications from emails or the app that this was taking place (I had been away so I didn't see the physical signs put up). Unfortunately the upgrade has removed equipment a number of pieces of equipment and not replaced them at all. There is a ton of empty space that needs to be filled and should have missing equipment items put back in. Surprised by this change and the uncharacteristic poor communication.

After supporting and being a member of The Gym for many years on 25/05/22 I experienced one of the worst and unimaginable discriminatory incidents. Taylor Spencer who is supposed to be the manager on the day failed and abused her position. My pin wasn't working and I showed her my membership number and asked her if she could kindly let me in. She was really unhelpful and had no trust that I was a member, although she had seen me frequently, as I attend the gym 5 days per week. She said that she couldn't let me in and had to go and check my membership... After several minutes she came back and with a very authoritative tone, she said the reason why your pin isn't working is that you have a student membership, which I don’t. At that point, I told her that my pin reflects my date of birth and therefore impossible due to my age, I am 50. She continued to abuse her position, and continued to repeat herself telling me “I am the manager you are not getting in today” she has no intention of trying to resolve the issue. She made various discriminatory remarks and was very blatant making references that I was a foreigner, yes I am Italian. The very unfortunate thing for Taylor Spencer is that the computer made an error. This was later confirmed by Kirsty Murney (Customer Service Executive) who has written apologizing that it was a computer error by the GYM, had she bothered to look into she would have known this herself at the time. Given her position as a Manager, I expect a certain level of intelligence, and should be respectful, understanding, and caring towards their members, I am the client after all. This was an act of a power-hungry stance, attempting to throw her authority around. Taylor Spencer is unfit to be a manager and shouldn't be representing the image of the GYM. >

Gutted. I have been going to this gym for the last 10 years and I really loved it. I brought over so many friends that subsequently joined as well. There was a great variety of equipment, not necessarily new but that doesn’t really matter because it was very well stocked, so many different piece of equipment that had built up over the years with the adding of different weights, gears, bits and bobs that made the difference from all the other gyms around. I couldn’t believe I was paying so little for such a vast choice. Sadly, with the new refurbishment all of this has gone, the gym has lost its identity and its core and has become like every other gym around: less weights, less equipment, less variety therefore less challenging and that’s what it was all about it. The staff is still professional and friendly but those little extras would set it apart from all the other gyms in the same price range. Very upset and disappointed.

Great spacious gym at a very affordable price. Only gripe is the number of users who keep slamming weights, and the on-site gym trainers who ignore said slamming. All the slamming translates to sharper depreciation and damage of your equipment, which translates to higher operating costs, which translates to higher fees for members and lower pay for trainers.

This gym has improved over the past two months. The changing rooms and equipment is now cleaned regularly. Friendly and approachable team. The lunchtime classes are great but can get hot in the studio. Really satisfied and would recommend as a budget gym in Waterloo area.

Really great gym for the monthly cost, I’ve been going here for the past 2 years on and off and I can say for sure this is the best gym experience I’ve had. What has made my experience even better though is signing up with a PT as they have so much knowledge to share, it has literally made me so much more confident to keep going and push myself on. A big thanks to Tim Bullici who is teaching me so much and in a patient no pressure style. I look forward to my Gym sessions now rather than dread them. Buzzing for the next even while I type this and that is all down to Tim. 100% recommend.

Lots of free weights/squat racks, more than most, nice vibe. Some health/safety issues with PTs training clients running up and down the main floor, and unbearably terrible music but these just my pet dislikes. Overall friendly and convenient.

Harassed and mistreated by Waterloo staff. PT Fabrice unprovoked harassed me while I was working out. The GM Cheryl backed up the harassment. They both lied about the reason of the harassment by referring to gym rules. Only that gym rules were never shared by the PT Fabrice who harassed me. Gym rules were only shared after I launched a formal complaint with corporate about the harassment. And btw - I did squats with my shoes off. Apparently it’s against the rules. Only that PT Fabrice never mentioned rules and just harassed me for doing squats in my socks. I guess budget gyms employ budget staff.

I want to make a complaint about two personal trainers who keep looking and not helping those who don't know how to do the exercises while at the same time mocking and laughing behind their backs Rachel Sun and Theo White, this Rachel always has a bad face and does I frown at people, today when I picked up less weights because I don't have the strength I was made fun of by both of them! I want to thank Tony Gouveia who really helps and is extremely pleasant in the training room.

This is overall a great gym for the price, it is one of the less busy the gym gyms i have been to and is also a nice place, my favourite The gym gym personally. Fabrice (the manager?) was a standout, extremely nice and approachable, he asked for feedback and offered to help me giving me valuable advice, definitely speak to him if you are starting out in the gym or have questions. I would not complain as much as others have in the reviews recently, although I understand that equipment being taken and not replaced is unpleasent. I would, however, agree with the sentiment that space management isn't great here, other the gym gyms are a lot more packed with equipment which unfortunately in London is necessary to maximise space in this expensive city. There are quite a few empty spaces where a whole machine or two could fit without making the place too packed. As I mentioned to Fabrice, I personally would be interested in a traditional incline bench, a maybe one other bench, another Hamstring Curl machine, another ab/pullup Station and most especially a cable shoulder machine, i love those and they are rare. Some stability equipment for runners would also be great. A Sled (unless it's upstairs?) Would be a big plus. Great place, keep up the good work!

I had money stolen from my wallet, very blatant they go through your stuff ,manager unavailable to report to, no procedures inplace for incidents like this. They should have posters in the changing room saying thieves operate in this area and take extra precautions, spoke to stuff he was not a little bit surprised by the looks of it must be regular occurrence

Decent gym. PT training courses are super annoying, though - big loud groups of trainee PTs taking up room alongside paying members like myself. It's a commercial use of the gym which provides 0 benefit for us members.

Good yum overall, wide range of equipment and spacious. If you happen to work out with kettlebells, their bells are not great and both the weight range is fairly limited (20kg max) as is the amount of bells available.

I joined this group of August 2022. Damn nervous as I’d never joined one before and naturally hesitant. However, this gym is fantastic. There is always plenty of space for workouts and a good amount of weights. The most poignant thing about this gym however, is the staff. They are so friendly. I have to thank them for making me as a new comer so welcomed to the gym. Amin & Theo in particular who always ask how my day is with a smile. They certainly foster what I can only call “good vibes” at the gym. Everyone is chill and keen to encourage you on your last set. I must also say that since been a member I have used the multiple membership to travel to other sites such as Bristol, Woking and Guildford and the atmosphere just isn’t there. My final point would be the cleanliness. Everyone has a good ethic to wipe down after use and the place is always hoovered. Hope this review brings clarity to anyone who wants to join.

This gym used to have a lot of equipment in it but since the “refurbishment”, they have taken away a lot of machines and it’s not half as good as it used to be. A lot of essential/popular machines were taken away too, with no explanation as to why. A personal complaint of mine would be that they have the heating on very frequently, coming from the units in the ceilings. Even sometimes in the warmer months. I understand ‘working up a sweat’, but nobody wants to work out with heating blasting on them as it makes working out more difficult. The gym is however very well maintained, always kept tidy and the staff are very nice. My only issues are the equipment being taken away during the refurb and also having the heating on as opposed to the air conditioning.

Hi, I’ve been a member since 2012 and I can’t fault this gym at all! Due to injury I’ve not been in almost 2 years and now that I’m fit to get back into training I’m glad to see that they have kept the same standards that they set when they first open back in 2012. Unlike other 24/7 gyms, this gym is kept clean and equipment all maintained like they’re new. Also thanks to Richard for clarifying the multiple gym policy, staff here are friendly and helpful. Even though I’ve been to other gym group gyms, nothing beats Waterloo!! 💪

Situated underneath Travelodge Waterloo Rd, like others in the chain it has a full complement of equipment - cardio, resistance, free weights, and open workout space. Possibility of buying a day pass if you're just visiting. Clean, convenient, and the ability to access 24 hours a day.

  • 3/5 Rafal B. 3 years ago on Google
Good variety and amount of machines and free weights, however some of them are worn out (or maybe just need some TLC) They’ve added some sanitisation stations which is good. Been there a few times and I can see that the staff don’t really care about whoever’s working out and whether they’re doing exercises right or not. Overall, if you know what you’re doing you can get the job done, just don’t expect anything luxurious, it is a budget gym after all.

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE I had an issue with activating my gym account after paying for the membership. It apparently was a technical error from there side. The problem is that they really did not help with resolving this problem on the spot. Instead I was advised to call back tomorrow or alternatively get another membership and cancel the current one I got. The customer service employee was quite rude. Bare in mind I just started my membership with “Thegym” and already faced a problem. At least the gym is monthly renewals so if you don’t like it, you can cancel.

The gym is in a great location wherever you're coming from. It has multiples of almost every bit of kit, so you don't have to wait, even though it isn't hugely busy anyway! Sometimes you have to wait in other gyms because they literally have one piece of kit. I also really like the layout, some gyms mix the equipment all up, there's no order! With Waterloo, you have a Cardio area, a Freeweights area, a private upstairs studio for classes (which has a door leading outside for extra ventilation), and an upstairs functional area, amazing!

Lots of decent equipment, waiting time for kit is minimal to non-existent depending on when you go and the PTs I chatted with were great – big shout to Amin, who always had sound technique pointers and inspired me to get my level 3 qualification.

One of the personal trainers, Melek Abay, approached my friend unsolicited and started body shaming her while trying to sell her posture correction classes, which is just unacceptable. Saying things like ‘don’t worry about your weight, we can fix that later’ when weight was never even mentioned is the kind of thing that you’d hope anyone be empathetic enough not to say - let alone a personal trainer. People like this are the reason many people are scared to go to the gym in the first place, and should not be trusted in such an environment.

I’ve been using this gym 3x a week for the last couple of months after not training for 5/6 years. I had an induction with Dinush about a month in as I was super nervous about venturing into the weights area and have now been training with him for a few weeks to help me get back into the swing of things. My confidence has definitely grown in this time! Would just love there to be a weekend “Ladies Who Lift” class please. All in all it’s a decent gym and I love that I can check on the app beforehand how busy it is as I like to go in the day but when it’s fairly quiet.

Been at this gym for over 3 years staff there are lovely. Seen Tony around very friendly and informative on my form. A few machine's for the legs were stiff. Apart from that lovely quiet gym. Recommend If you are starting out.

Good gym. Great helpful staff. Doesn’t seem to get overly busy to the point you can’t get on equipment but alot of equipment is not working or breaking down by the weeks, so it would be nice to get that fixed. Would be 5 stars with better / working equipment.

Throughly enjoy being apart of The Gym Waterloo and its community feeling. I started using the weighted section only a few months ago, and I feel I am able to approach the friendly staff who are always willing to help. For instance Amin often gives me advice and a helping hand with the heavier weights. Would definitely recommend this gym. Although, would love a full length mirror in the woman’s changing facilities.

In London for three days and our hotel didn’t have a gym. We signed up for a three day pass and were able to come over and use the facilities for a small amount of money. Good variety of equipment. Recommend you download the app and do your sign up before you get to the entry point though as the entrance is unmanned.

I've been a member of this gym for over 2 years and I wouldn't train anywhere else! There are loads of equipment, machines, squat racks and platforms for everybody to use. The staff are really lovely and helpful, particularly Amin - today the gym was spotless whilst he was on shift, he made sure everything was perfectly clean, tidy, and in its place! He is extremely welcoming and attentive to all the gym's members which really helps provide a safe and friendly space to train. I can't recommend this gym enough, there's a really lovely community feel to it and with all the different facilities and classes on offer there is something for everyone. You won't regret joining here!

Lots of equipment to work out with, just put a bit tight one next to another. 2 floors to work out, on 1st floor for streach and felex with great glass roof. Lovely staff.

This gym is spectacular! For a commercial gym you can’t get much better than this. The equipment is top notch and the staff are extremely friendly. Shout out to Tony, he understood that I was new to the gym and made no hesitation to help me out and get used to the environment. I’ve been going gym for around 2 years and I can say that there is no commercial gym that’s meets this gym’s standard.

Went in today terrible staff member. I told him I was new to the branch and asked if he can show me round. he couldn't be bothered to help me. He pointed out to machine's and walked away. To clarify he was not training a client or was busy. Half of the machines were broken the treadmill looked like it was from 1800's. Terrible branch, and I have been to some crazy branches. Never again.

Having started training at this gym 6 months ago, I completely disagree with the previous reviewer, so much so I felt compelled to write my own review. I have received nothing but encouragement and friendly advice from Theo (and Amin too) despite only starting with <10kg dumbbell chest presses. Neither trainers (nor anyone else in the gym) have made any comments on the weight and have instead been vocal proponents of steady progress. On the few occasions where I've needed help with anything, Rachel has also been an approachable friendly face, not just for me but time and time again for other members in the gym. I couldn't ask for anything else from the trainers here. My two issues with the gym (and the reason for 4*, not 5*) are related to the recent refurbishment ("upgrade") 1. The lack of small 2.3kg / 4.5kg weights on the pin loaded machines. Despite raising this several times this has still not been resolved. Presumably management expect members to be able to add 7kg to their lifts from one session to the next 2. The removal of the pin loaded row machine These two points have been a step back - not sure whether this was a local management decision or a corporate one but seems quite silly.

I have been coming to the gym group for over ten years now, I first started there when I was just 18. I’d like to say from my own experience that this is a fantastic place to go and train. I appreciate some peoples frustration regarding some of the old machines missing since the refresh. However, for 95% of body types it is more than substantial to get the results you’re after here. Especially considering this is a budget friendly gym. I have nothing but good words to say about Fabrice, Dinush and Tony. All of them are great personal trainers in their own right, but most importantly they are always on hand and willing to help others with a positive attitude 👍🏾

Decent gym but definitely some improvement is needed. 2.3 kg increment weights must be introduced into this gym and machines like Lat Pull and Assisted Chin Up need replacing completely. They are rusted and stiff rather than smooth when moving the weight. Organisation of free weights and other equipment is very good.

I have a personal trainer here and she has helped me so much her name is Abi and realistically she is the best PT there if you are trying to start out at the gym and see results straight off the bat.

I just moved here and I am very happy with closing the Waterloo Gym Group as my home gym. It always so clean and everyone and the workers are nice like Rachel here at the gym. It makes me motivated to come in and workout.
