OK gym, but major flaw of playing music waaaay too loud. When 100% of people are wearing headphones, clearly they don't want to hear top 40 blasted over it. Please please please turn it down. Or better yet, off.

Really! 60 quid per month for a non-premium gym!!!? No pool, no rock climbing wall, no ball courts of any kind, no towel service etc. It is really just your average gym with average equipment. Sure, you can lift weights, do various cardio etc. But nothing on offer to make this chain gym worth the asking price. There are a plethora of better value gyms that charge less than half of what they want. My advice, look around - you will find a much better gym for a better price.

Waaay too overpriced. I've never been to a more depressing gym. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Overpriced for what you get - there's always several machines out of order, as well as the speakers/microphones in classes, and it is way too over crowded at peak times, you have to stand and wait for a machine and there is minimal floor space . The latest thing to be out of order is the drinking fountain - it has had an "engineer on the way" sign stuck on it for weeks now. One more thing - the bathrooms are terrible. Usually a toilet is blocked, and you can actually smell a damp and musty odour in the bathroom when you walk in. Not once have I seen someone in the bathroom cleaning and there is no roster to show how regularly the bathrooms are being cleaned.

Staff are really welcoming and the refit has sorted out the poor state of the gym. Biggest complaint is the overcrowding and the volume of the music. Music is always loud in gyms but this is pushing it and ruins a good workout.

It is getting slightly better because both new manager and new fitness manager are working on it hard but very little can be achieved with the steam room that never works and cleaners who simply don’t do their jobs. The rest of the team should get a grip as well and at least don’t make derogatory comments about the new management if they don’t contribute to the gym themselves.

Super helpful staff. The changing room is delightful. Everywhere is clean and fresh. The lockers are much more spacious than other gyms I have visited. There's a variety of equipment available, even at busy periods. The only gripe I have is that it's a little on the expensive side.

I joined Fitness First in Brixton a year ago, and I can confidently say that it has been a game-changer in my fitness journey. From the moment I stepped foot into the gym, I was greeted with warmth and enthusiasm by the friendly staff. The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming, and it immediately puts you at ease. I have to give a special shout-out to Shawn, who has truly been a standout. His dedication and commitment to ensuring an exceptional gym experience are unparalleled. Shawn consistently goes above and beyond to make sure I feel comfortable, motivated, and supported during my workouts. His personalised guidance and expertise have truly transformed the way I approach fitness. I can't thank him enough for his genuine care and attentiveness. One of the first things that struck me about Fitness First in Brixton is the cleanliness and hygiene maintained throughout the facility. It's evident that the staff takes great pride in keeping the gym spotless and well-maintained. The equipment is always in excellent condition, making each workout seamless and enjoyable. Since joining Fitness First, I've experienced a remarkable transformation in my fitness routine. Previously, I struggled to find the motivation to go to the gym, but now I couldn't imagine looking back. The positive energy, friendly community, and exceptional service at Fitness First have made my gym sessions something I genuinely look forward to. If you're looking for a gym that goes the extra mile to provide outstanding service, Fitness First in Brixton is the place to be. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a clean, safe, and friendly environment to kickstart or enhance their fitness journey. Thank you, Fitness First, and a huge thanks to Shawn for making every visit an absolute pleasure!

This gym is amazing! The staff is fantastic, the place is fully air-conditioned, and it's impeccably clean. The changing room is spotless and odour-free, unlike some other gyms. Shawn was incredibly helpful, giving us a thorough tour of the facilities. Addendum: Jane, my personal trainer, was outstanding—patient, punctual, and incredibly organised. Her constant encouragement and thoughtfully planned workout routines positively impacted both myself and my fiancé..

I attend occasionally via ClassPass - Team are all exceptionally helpful, has great equipment. I also like that I see members of the team often having a look around to make sure items are away, or cleaning which I think is great. Particular shout out to Aaron, who has been very welcoming when checking in and getting started.

Jane is a friendly, supportive and great PT. I’ve really enjoyed training with her over the last few months and would recommend her to anyone in Brixton who’s looking to get back into fitness and weights.

This gym saved me during my honeymoon. Most gyms around London seemed to be trendy group classes only or fitness centers like anytime fitness. This was an actual warehouse gym like I am used to here in Chicago, and it is full of people who actually care about their workout. Also, shout out to your employee Shaun for being so friendly. Will be back during my next trip.

I worked with Jane on a weekly basis and have really seen the improvement in my strength, confidence in the gym and understanding of my form. I really recommend Jane if you’re looking for someone to help you improve in a supportive and encouraging way. I’m really motivated by how much I’ve improved!

Membership manager Ylenia was extremely helpful and communicative helping me fix an issue with my Direct Debit. The rest of the staff was also nice and welcoming at all times. The gym may get busy at peak times but there are always treadmills and other machines available. I am changing branches as I'm moving to a different neighbourhood , but I highly recommend.

My favourite Fitness 1st gym in Brixton because the people are nice as well as members. The cleaner Mary does an amazing job mean in the changing rooms every single day.

This place is TINY. If you are into weights, then stay away from it. Doesn’t have the bare minimum, the machines available have seen better days, the fee weights area is packed and it is always crowded. It has, on the other hand, a good selection of cardio machines (treadmill, elliptical, bike and steps) and it is apparently very good at classes (the saloons were big) It wasn’t a fit for me, might be a fit for you. Gave 3 stars because the staff was AMAZING! Else would have given 2

Spinning in Brixton Gym with Neil three times a week is a rave for me. From good music to one of the best spinning workouts I’ve done, and I’ve been spinning for over 15 years. Brixton Fitnessfirst might be small but has a big personality. All staffs and management do their best to make you feel at home but you do have to leave and go to your house 🤣🤣🤣

I recently visited Fitness First Gym, and I must say, my experience left me with mixed feelings. While there are certainly some positives, there are a few significant drawbacks. It appears that they recently rearranged the gym floor, resulting in a lack of dedicated space for stretching or floor exercises. Instead, they have chosen to accommodate additional weights in this area, despite already having a designated space for them. This decision creates an unsafe environment as people are left stretching in the middle of the floor, constantly at risk of interfering with others using weights. It's not only inconvenient but also poses a potential injury hazard. I strongly believe that separate areas should be allocated for stretching and weightlifting to ensure the safety and comfort of all gym-goers. The classes were okay.

The gym is well equipped for my training. Alex is an amazing coach ,always gives great advice and new exercises. Gym clean plus you can relax and detox in the sauna or steam room. Recommended 💪🏿

Honestly love this gym; it feels like home. Whether I’m just using the sauna and steam, popping in to converse with staff on my breaks or doing a class this place REALLY keeps me grounded and happy. One of my favourite classes is the Pilates class with Ellen; highly recommended, she’s so kind and make sure everyone is comfortable, healing, stretching and channelling their breathing so everyone is getting the most of the class. Her classes are literally great and even fun and effective for beginners. In conclusion I always ensure I attend the class even when I’m late I make sure I show up because this class facilitates peace and balance for me 100 out of 10 :)

Absolutely love this place. It’s a decent size, unreal location, and the staff are amazing. I particularly want to give my personal trainer, Jamal, a shout out. He has supported me both in and out of the gym with diet tips and regular training sessions. I have seen incredible results in just 3 weeks and would highly recommend Jamal and this gym to anyone. Even the music in here is decent 😉.

Brixton Fitness First is one of the gyms I've been going to for years - great people, lovely vibe! I always enjoy the classes there, especially Ellen's Pilates and Yoga! Her Pilates is currently on Thursdays lunch time. It offers an excellent variety and is enjoyed by many. Ellen is friendly, down to earth and very good to work with and learn from. Classes with her are great fun. Ellen knows how to approach clients, according to their abilities and levels. Looking forward to many more classes with her, Yoga included. Thank you, Ellen, for being there!

Beware of this place if you want to cancel your membership, there's a sneaky money grabbing clause in the contract that requires 30 days notice for cancellation, so I'm now going to be paying £50 for month I won't be using. Not only that but they wouldn't confirm that, if they have to close because of the virus, whether they would refund money or not. I suspect they will pull a fast one and simply "pause" membership while they are closed. I'm surprised that such a large company doesn't have a contingency plan for this. They also increased the membership fee each year for the three years I was a member without any explanation or warning.

Joined and went once and only once then left for a different gym. The clips for the Olympic bars are rusty and difficult to get on. Hurt myself a few times and ended up giving up changing weights altogether as took 5 mins every time! Small free weight area. Two racks with not enough safety bars. Limited space and weight plates rusty so hard to get on bars. Needs upgrading ASAP.

TERRIBLE. Joining was one of the worst decisions I've ever made. Really old equipment and a small space. I've been trying to escape a 12 month membership with them - but it's very hard to do so without being exploited with seemingly random admin and penalty charges (their customer service is AWFUL).

  • 4/5 Zi W. 2 years ago on Google
Decent gym for decent price. There’s a limited amount of equipment, eg 1 bench, 1 decline bench, 1 smith machine etc. So gets quite challenging in peak times, otherwise does the job.

Absolutely love this gym - the staff are so friendly and the manager was super helpful, and went above and beyond to improve my session. As a result, the members are really kind and supportive too, and it feels like a proper community atmosphere. The steam, sauna and showers are super clean - in fact, 90% of the time I’ve been there, there’s actually someone cleaning! I just wish the weights area was slightly bigger, as this one is small in comparison to other FF. Looking forward to trying out some classes

When I first started looking for a personal trainer, I was both out of shape physically and at a low ebb emotionally. Jane immediately understood what I needed and put together a clear plan – recognizing what was achievable in the best possible way for me. As we started our sessions, she showed me a different way of approaching physical fitness – alleviating my fear of weights, focusing on my technique and posture and always patient when it took me a while to get a particular exercise. She is extremely supportive and encouraging, making me laugh and always getting me through the final set of reps. She has also helped me find the right balance between knowing when to push myself and listening to my body when it has had enough. Both in terms of achieving my short-term goals and through putting in place a balanced and structured exercise routine in the long term, Jane has made a tangible and hugely positive impact. I feel stronger and fitter, more in control and in tune with my body, more confident and happier – and inspired to continue on my physical fitness journey. For anyone considering starting personal training, I would not hesitate in recommending Jane. The gym itself is a great place to work out – is always clean, and the vibes from staff always friendly and approachable. Ali (West Norwood).
