Having been a member of many gyms, I can honestly say this is by a long mile the best. If you are serious about reaching your fitness goals in an incredibly friendly environment then this is the place for you. I personally love the vibe of the gym from the front of house team, personal trainers and members. It is the little personal touches that make City Athletic far superior to other gyms. They have actually built a community of members who engage and train with each other. The staff know my routine, educate me and are always a great source of support and inspiration. The locker room and gym is always immaculately clean and the high quality of personal trainers available is excellent. If you want to train in a gym that leaves ego's at the door, helps you get results and has you excited and motivated to return, then join City Athletic!

Hidden gem - large workout space, always spotless, relatively quiet most of the time, so you never need to wait for anything, and lovely showers

I've been training in bodybuilding and fitness for 17 years and City Athletic is by far the best gym I have ever trained in. The equipment is fantastic and well maintained and clean. The facilities are excellent and the towel service is a welcome bonus for me especially on my leg days. The staff are amazing, really helpful, really friendly and they are always ask how you are. The atmosphere in there is absolutely jumping really positive and I have had the best workouts that I have ever had in there. Finally I highly recommend the protein coffee there too!

Brilliant gym. All the staff really friendly and welcoming. Never seems crowded - I've almost never had to wait for equipment during the four years I've been a member. Very well equipped with everything you need and very knowledgeable trainers who are happy to share their expertise. I run and ski mainly and the gym has absolutely everything I need to train strength for those activities.

I've been a member of 6 gyms in the last 8 years due to relocating around the country and I've never felt the need to leave a review before, but I wanted to for City Athletic because of how impressed I have been. I've been a member of local leisure centres and also big corporate gyms in London with all the bells and whistles. My experience of City Athletic is that it has the best from these two opposing styles of gym. It has the friendly "local" feeling of somewhere like a leisure centre, but with all the expertise and equipment you might find at the gyms that charge extortionately. In fact, I would go further and say the credentials that are demonstrated by the staff at City Athletic are second to none. Also, it's in an amazing location for me and I can never believe how quiet the gym is. Highly recommended.

Overall an okay gym. £120/monthly is too high for literally just one basement room with 2 racks and very limited equipment. Generally there are no queues which is the only positive compared to other gyms in the area.. Their plates/barbells are not of good quality, they feel like cheap commercial gym weights. Their staff are generally good but expect some of them to give you unsolicited advice. Members not keen to share equipment when needed. They tell you it’s no contract but you need to give 1 month notice so it’s technically 2 months contract. I only trained there for 2.5 weeks and had to pay 2 months.. I just can’t see why someone would pay that amount of money when there are a lot bigger gyms with better equipment in the area for less. Not sure how they even get people to sign up, unless they are like me, who just moved to London and had no idea what’s up in the area.

Almost reluctant to post a review as I don't want too many people knowing about this gym. I've been a member for 5 or 6 years and love it. It is not a massive gym but I think they cap the membership to make sure it never gets too busy - I train before work and lunchtimes and can always do my program without have to wait for a free squat rack etc. Classes are 30 mins so ideal for lunch breaks and there are normally only 4-5 people per class which means the instructors can make sure everyone is getting the most out of the session, whatever their fitness level. Most importantly for me, it's a great atmosphere to train and that's down to the instructors and PTs who are great people and genuinely happy to give you their time and advice when you need it. If you're ever trying something new there will be someone to help. Strength and fitness-wise I am a different person to the one who joined a few years ago and I owe a huge part of that to CA.

I've been using this gym since it opened and it's a very well run outfit. All of the trainers I've worked with are knowledgeable and engaging. The gym itself is never too busy, even at peak times. Good, well maintained facilities and a decent selection of training equipment. Also sits below a Sweatshop (for training shoes), Perfect Balance clinic - both of which have been very useful at different times. Thoroughly recommend.

I have been a member for the past two years and can confidently say City Athletic is simply the best gym in London. Clean, incredibly well-equipped and never crowded. Staff is great and always helpful

Friendly, spacious and oh so very clean. Staff is professional, I feel very safe. Not over crowded like some other places, so happy I've found them.

Really great place to work out and focus on attaining your fitness goals. Staffed by a really friendly crew, there is never any hesitation in providing advice to you if needed. It's capped membership means that it is never over capacity, and it's rare not to be able to use the equipment you planned to. One of the least intimidating gyms I've ever been a member of, there's an emphasis on pushing yourself rather than posing. Cannot recommend highly enough!

By far the best gym I’ve ever worked in. The facilities, range of gym equipment, standard of customer care, and quality of personal training are all second to none. And recently, the founders Shaun Stafford and Ben Claypole have opened another fabulous gym near Victoria, which I intend to use on my weekends. I look forward to working here for many years to come :)

I have been a member for about 2 years and despite the small size I must say I am very happy with the gym and the facilities. The small size tends not to be a problem due to the fact that they have a member cap and even during peak hours finding a free treadmill or a squat rack is not a problem. Staff are excellent and equipment is always well maintained and clean. Very much recommended!

Great place to train, good facilities, friendly and helpful staff. Greg, Jamie and Ann all helped me out loads. Lost over 20kg since training here. Have sadly relocated but would deff come back.

Great gym in the heart of the city with all the equipment and knowledge you need.

Great gym with really good facilities. It's got most if not all the equipment you need and the trainers really know what they're talking about and are always happy to help. My favorite thing is that I don't really have to bring anything with meh for a session. The female changing rooms have all the toiletries (decent quality stuff too) that I need.

I Had a social distanced session with James McCann, in a London park. The session was excellent, he is very knowledgeable and professional. I'm a little unfit but he was very patient and supportive. Would highly recommend a session with James.

This is a fantastic gym, very clean, up to date and new equipment, loads of PTs who are always happy to help. Been a member since coming back from maternity leave in 2015 and haven’t looked back, I’ve become fitter and stronger than I’ve ever been and feel so welcome every time I visit.

Been a member here since it opened. Fantastic gym - for me it beats the rest in the vicinity, 2 of which I've been a member of in recent years. The staff and trainers are top notch, the gym and the changing rooms are clean and well maintained, and the other members are (usually) happy and polite which you often don't get in gyms. I'd highly recommend City Athletic. Historically I've changed gyms for a fresh perspective every couple of years but this is the first I can safely say I'm going to stick with. Definitely give it a go if you're considering it.

Great little gym. Helpful engaging staff. Perfect for a midday workout in the city. Wish I hadn’t wasted so many years in John Reed and Fitness First.
