Wow! It’s hard to describe how amazing it is! And I would not like to spoil your experience as it is stunning. I went there early in the afternoon and left after sunset, the change of colors in the sky, on the rocks due to the light, on the water, plus the green and the wildlife made our experience there one of the best ones. Bring water and sunscreen as it doesn’t have shops around(thanks God) and please take a bag to place your rubbish as I didn’t see any piece of trash and we need to keep it that way for our future generations. Enjoy of this incredible piece of the UK!

A wonderful walk with lots of beautiful view! The name Downs is derived from the Old English word dun meaning hill. The South Downs National Park is the newest of the UK’s 15 national parks having only received full protected status in 2011. Its most obvious feature is the South Downs range of chalk hills running from Winchester in the west, across the counties of Hampshire, West Sussex and East Sussex, terminating where it meets the English Channel in the form of the spectacular white cliffs including Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters near Eastbourne but the South Downs National Park also includes the western Weald area which offers a complete contrast from the grassy Downs. The South Downs is home to a number of rare species, including the Adonis blue butterfly that thrives in chalk grassland. It is thought that the chalk ridgeline of the South Downs Way has been used by people for more than 6000 years. Cissbury Ring, just north of Worthing, is the second largest hillfort in England.

Absolutely stunning coastal area for a nice hike and relaxation. Went on a sunny day with clear skies and it was so peaceful. The rolling hills are spacious to walk on so there’s plenty of space and doesn’t feel crowded.

We have recently got into walking and have been to Norfolk, Lake District, and Peaks. South Downs National Park is beautiful with rolling hills, cliffs, and of course the ever beautiful sea. Dozens of walks with easy, moderate, and difficult paths to follow. Very well maintained with lots of pubs to take breaks and many villages as well as Brighton or Hove if you want to take a rest. Really enjoyed our 3 days here with lots of happy memories. Will definitely be coming back.

Old Winchester hill is a very nice walking area. The slopes down into the valley can be challenging and not for those who aren’t used to climbing hills. Overall a nice place to spent a sunny Sunday afternoon. And dog friendly - but please don’t leave your little black bags hanging from trees as a couple were spotted. Poor show from some dog owners.

A superb place for a quiet walk. Hills, woodland, pine forests, and a range of distances to suit all abilities. Search online for Singleton South Downs walk, we mostly followed this route.

From what I understand, the South Downs National Park stretches along from the Sussex Coast to the Hampshire Coast. It covers Beachy Head, Burling Gap and the Seven Sisters cliffs. A great area for spotting wildlife too, and views of Eastbourne from the Downs.

I have hundreds of photos that I could post here, where to start. The South Downs National Park is an endless gift that keeps on giving. Everyday is different, it is an oasis of flora and fauna, steeped in history as the hills are in magnificent height, equally offering vistas on a million walks and a million years of history. What you can not find interesting here is not worth knowing. These are areas of outstanding natural beauty, yet they are offered in such a way that gives access to all whilst hinting that everyone needs to look after them. Enjoy and protect, say no more. For starters why not spend an evening up The Trundle, overlooking Chichester and the Solent, recently given Dark Skies National Park status, one can watch breathtaking sunsets, followed by the chance to observe the stars in a truly magnificent setting. 🌌 ⭐️🌳🌲🍂🍁

Did the chalk stones walk. Quite a quick one (2-3hrs) with some nice views. Could be made longer or shorter as cut back and forth through the woods and The South Downs Way (sometimes seeing deer!). Fine for dogs off lead. The chalk stones were interesting but not always obvious which direction to take at crossroads!

Lots of things to do here. Biking, hiking, photography, picnics or just relaxing. It's a great place for identifying trees, plants, mushrooms, birds and insects.

It was crowded even on a weekday because of Easter break. We didn’t really go to the castle, we just walked around the gorgeous little town area instead. I think it’s was worth it. Drank some coffee, ate delicious cakes and drove off to our next destination. Two hours, not more should be enough in this area but that depends on your personal preferences. Some practical information, there are clean public toilets with supplies of water and soap available near the bus stop just across the street ahead of the parking lot. At least at the time of our visit.

The cliffs are just stunning. Walk along the beach and admire the grandness of these massive chalk cliffs. Experience first hand the progressive erosion and the effects on the scenery throughout the years.

A beautiful place with the most beautiful views throughout the entire drive. It has stunning rolling trees all throughout the national park drive, but there is not much to do in the town centre. Just a small cafe, and long walks. Luckily we were there on a nice autumn winter morning, and had a great day.

Testing, testing.. How to enjoy the South Downs in a wheelchair. It's not easy even if there are no stiles, no kissing gates. Because there are ruts, and mounds, and grass hummocks - enough to trap a drive wheel and worse... worry about tipping sideways. What I did manage to see, and smell, has been lovely, but Kingston Ridge is still a distant goal.

Lovely circular walk from Steyning via the pig farm. The old Shoreham cement works in the distance.

I'm not sure I want to tell the world about this place. The Yew tree forest is very special, sacred even and I hope it will continue to be protected. Come in silence and you will feel the energy of the ancient trees.

Lavington Common is a great place to walk the dogs and watch the wildlife or listen to birdsong. It still has character on a wet April evening. Handy carpark too!
