Simple little castle, one of Henry VIII's sea defences, English Heritage so cheap as chips, well worth a visit if you're in the area!

Lovely little castle to visit. We tied it in with a walk around Yarmouth River to spend the day. Has a beautiful sea view up on the roof, lovely spot for a picnic lunch. Games room is a great touch for the kids, jenga, toss the hoop, dress up and connect 4. Small shop on entry, no toilets and parking is a short walk away.

Interesting place to visit, but hugely pleased I have EH Membership as for the size of it and time it takes to go around would be mighty unhappy to pay Β£6.50 per adult to get in. Good views of the ferry coming and going and other harbour traffic. Some display material to read and gain an insight of the history of the castle.

On the 25th April 2018 I went back over to the Isle of Wight on a coach trip around the island. The Isle of Wight is a county and the largest and second most populated island in England. It is in the English Channel, about 2 miles ( 3.2 kilometres ) off the coast of Hampshire, separated by the busy Solent. The island has been a holiday destination since Victorian times and is known for its climate, its coastal scenery and chines. The town of Yarmouth offers plenty of things to do and see from walking through the cobbled streets of the town to cycling along the flat paths which run beside the nature reserves. Visit one of the local pubs or restaurants and enjoy a drink as you watch the sunset over the Solent. The town is filled with a range of cosy cafes, shops and galleries and the main square is overlooked by a stunning 17th Century church. Walk up Yarmouth Pier and enjoy the view of the stunning West Wight coastline and even see the ferry coming in to dock from Lymingto. Yarmouth Castle English Heritage. A Tudor Castle in a beautiful seaside town. Climb to the battlements and enjoy the very best views of sailing in the Solent. As you watch the yachts pass through the narrow channel between Yarmouth and the New Forest, you will understand why Henry VIII built this, his final fortress. Commanding the mouth of the Solent since 1547, Yarmouth was the first Arrow Head Castle in Britain. Picnic on the rampart lawns and enjoy magnificent views over the Solent. Fantastic views from the sea across the solent and surrounding straight of water. Also a close up view of the ferry coming and going from the island. Ideal location for a picnic. Informative board relating to the development of the castle throughout the ages.

The castle has an interesting history and is worth a visit if your interested in medieval fortifications. Being an English heritage site you can visit with membership, which is probably the best value to way to do it (not sure if the regular fee is worth it). The main downside is this place is rather small, you could easily see everything there within an hour, with time to spare to watch the ferry. From what we could tell, it also lacks toilets.

Yarmouth castle itself is a strange sort of building tucked away down an alley, it's definitely worth a visit as it has an interesting story, half an hour should be enough, some lovely sea views, although it's next to the ferry terminal. Most of the castle has literally been back filled in. The old centre of Yarmouth is small and quaint, and the surrounding area is dedicated to all things relating to water activities. Take a stroll down the pier, all in all a lovely place for a trip out

Maybe it's just me, but this was the poorest and most forgettable historical experience in my entire life. A "castle", which is a big house basically tucked away between a dark alley and a noisy ferry port. 3 empty rooms in bad condition, not even furniture or anything from the time period, just a few texts on display that you could google, and some garden with a sea view. Absolutely nothing for Β£8.50 per person. We were done in 10 minutes, and it would have felt a wasted 10 minutes even if it was free. No wonder why there was no one else there.

A compact castle, originating around 1547 when Henry VIII had lost his flagship Mary Rose and was feeling particularly vulnerable to attack by France. Shows a unique example of an arrowhead bastion and is a very interesting way to spend an hour, particularly with the extra information provided by Sarah, a knowledgeable guide. Recommended

It's quirky and interesting. Nothing like you expect a castle to be as its too small, and hidden down an alley. There isn't much to see in the building or exhibits but it was a pleasant half hour walking around. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's the usual English Heritage prices which seem higher than they should be.

Interesting little castle with plenty of history. Fantastic views from the roof top across the harbour. Lots of information inside about the history of the place.

Well preserved Henry VIII costal defence. A small piece of history. Spectacular views on the top.

A small but historically interesting coastal defence structure with a pleasant gun platform upon which you can picnic and from which you can view the harbour and the transit of the car and passenger ferries.

Got to visit before it closed for the season! The staff go above and beyond here! Aiden at the gift shop was so helpful and lovely definitely started our visit off on a high note! Then Rae offered to show us around and provide lots of interesting information that we would’ve missed, she was so kind and informative and we appreciated her taking the time to show us around! Pretty views and a really cool establishment to explore!

I have just joined English Heritage and Yarmouth Castle was the first property I visited as a member during the October half term. I also had the great fortune of being shown round by a lovely lady called Rae who is an English Heritage volunteer. She was so knowledgeable and had lots of great stories and points of interest to share. It is a small location with stunning views of the Solent and the ferry terminal next door. 100% recommend for all ages.

Lovely afternoon out for all the family. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Very glad we didn't pay the Β£10 standard entrance fee and got in 'for free' with our English Heritage membership. Not much to see here (walked around and took some photos within 20 minutes) and simply not very impressive either. A stroll along the pier afterwards was far more enjoyable, it took longer and was totally free!

Quite a small castle you can finish it within 30 minutes. A bit of the history of the castle but not.too exciting. Part of English heritage

Won't take you long to take it all in. A little information around but it is a small site. Lovely view from up top, and worth a look if you are English Heritage member, though I wouldn't be happy if I paid full price for entry.

Small Castle right next to the ferry. Well maintained, but quite small and not much to see.

Interesting. It’s small and we read all the exhibits in under an hour but it is well done and worth a visit. I imagine it would be really good for kids 7-15, although there is something for everyone.
