One of the interesting minor attractions found at Leicester Square is the Swiss glockenspiel (clock with bells) that was given to London in 1985 by Switzerland and Liechtenstein as a symbol of the centuries friendship between the nations. The clock chimes numerous times each day, producing a nice melody and you can watch the figures stop the clock structure turning round while the small bells chime away. Its an interesting and pleasant experience if you are passing through the area and happen to be around when the glockenspiel is in action. Otherwise, just have a look, take a picture and move on to see the rest of Leicester Square.

Standing prominently at the entrance to Leicester Square is this clock, the Swiss Glockenspiel. Next to the clock itself is another totem columns displaying the emblems of the 22 Swiss cantons. Every hour, on the hour, the clock will chime, the bells ringing and the figures would move around the clock. Fun thing to watch. The caricature artists often sit here waiting for customers too.

I didn't know anything about this but wish I had longer there to have been able to hear the bells ring and get to see what it does. It was still really interesting and glad I got to see it.

(Translated by Google) The Swiss Glockenspiel opposite the M & M World Store between Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square is an ideal meeting place if you are lost in the hustle and bustle of the city. If it fits then the bells will ring nicely in Swiss style. I would not travel extra, but in passing it is quite nice and a change in London.

The Swiss Clock has been in Leicester Square for years. It plays a lovely tune on the hour. This clock is a survivor. When the Swiss Centre was demolished and redeveloped in the 1990's, the clock survived and the Swiss Tree, and was placed in its current location. The Swiss Tree was unveiled on the 15th April 1991, on the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation. This was a token of lasting friendship between Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

In my first visit to London, after purchasing some goods at the M&M's World, I was talking to my SO about where to go next. Suddenly, some bells started to ring from the clock with a beautiful melody. It was quite nice, and the whole artistic composition, with all the mechanical artifacts signaling the hour, was lovely. We just stayed there, I don't know for how long, just to watch it and enjoy.

Interesting monument. The music appears to be recorded as the bells do not chime. It's also a bit noisy.

I think this is London's greatest tourist attraction. The bells have a beautiful sound and are not recorded bells. I love those 11 figures!

Swiss Glockenspiel is located in a bustle location in the very heart of London, near Piccadilly. Very interesting installation art like in Alps/Bavarian towns and villages...

London is full of pleasant surprises and I happened to visit this place at 5pm when the clock started playing a wonderful music. It happens every hour so don’t miss the opportunity if you are at Leister Square.

(Translated by Google) Curious clock very close to Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square. In normal hours it does not have great charm, but it has some schedules, which can be consulted on the Internet, when the hour is activated and the figurines that make it up begin to move. You have to be careful, because you can go unnoticed if you do not look for it, as there are always many people walking around the area.

In continental European countries such as Switzerland and Germany, similar musical clocks with a strong taste of fairy tales are very popular. Now there's one in the middle of London. It was presented on behalf of the citizens of Switzerland and Liechtenstein as a gift for the 400th anniversary of the city of Westminster. It was erected in 1985 in the Swiss Centre in Leicester Square. However, due to the new construction of the square, the bell tower was also demolished in 2008, and was relocated here at the end of 2011.

We happened to walk by when the chimes and bells were ringing. It was interesting to see. My wife noticed that when the bells started ringing police officers appeared seemingly out of nowhere for the event. When the bells stopped ringing, the police officers dispersed. It was interesting. Not sure why they did that.

Great area of the west end and very close to Chinatown, Cinemas and theatres. All major land marks are within a good but not challenging walk, and even better at weekends when you don't have workers rushing around.
