A lovely place which promotes culture and philanthropy. Ornate wood features inside including a large wooden sweeping staircase. Also two beautiful stained glass windows. We visited here when the John Ruskin exhibition was on. Free to get in and you can attend evening events for a small charge. A small coffee shop serves sandwiches, cakes, hot drinks, and soups at lunchtime. We certainly will be visiting again for other events.

A Grade II Listed’ extravagant tour de force (formerly Astor House) commissioned by 19th.Century millionaire William Waldorf Astor, remains an eccentric and flamboyant showcase for contemporaneous craftsmanship. Elaborately decorated and fashioned in woods, marbles, stained glass, metal works and accoutrements. Practically defines ‘over the top’ opulence and lavish luxury. Currently utilised as an exhibition, function and event venue. Staff friendly, enthusiastic and engaging.

I went with a local charity that had organised an outing for us. The staff were very accomodating of all the needs of the group I was with (it is a charity for an older group of people) and made everyone feel welcome and happy. There was a volunteer guide there for us too (Mary), and she was wonderfully knowledgeable and obviously very interested in history and current use of 2 Temple Place. There was an exhibition on, so the blinds were closed, but I will make a trip back when the blinds are open. A real hidden gem on the embankment.

To be perfectly honest I was a little underwhelmed. Certainly the architecture is nice and the stained glass windows lovely. But the rooms are empty. I suppose I was hoping for old paintings on the walls, some period furniture and books on the bookshelves. A slow amble through all the rooms takes around 10-15 minutes.

I visited here as part of London Open House. It is a very impressive hidden gem. It was owned at one time by William Waldorf Astor and is well worth a visit if you can make it during their limited openings.

I love this place I found a website called Ianvisit, which happened to mention this place to visit over the weekend It's also good to look at the 2 Temple Place website for opening times as well before visiting the nearest tube station, which is Temple This place has two stunning places. The first is the stair case & the second is the long hall. You have to make your way upstairs, which is amazing, and then you enter the main hallway, which is breathtaking I would advise going here while the exhibition is on, which is on until April, I think I need to return to see this place without the exhibition on But I would recommend

Two Temple Place is just such a outstanding and beautiful building with brilliant exhibitions, friendly staff; fantastic interiors. It is a truly gem hidden away from all the tourists in a beautiful part of London. I have been to three different exhibitions and I particularly enjoyed the 'Age of Jazz in Britain'; nice combination between visual arts and beautiful music at the same time.

Just round the corner from Temple underground station and just off the Embankment sits this beautiful former home, now an exhibition hall. I went for a glass exhibition and it allowed free entry to the home so gave an opportunity to see the amazing wooden carvings, frescos, pane glass windows and intricate decorative engravings all through the halls. It’s a great building to look around and the exhibit was good too. Staffed by volunteers and not open every day so visit the website to be sure of opening hours. Lovely place to while away an hour or so. There’s also a souvenir shop inside if looking for a gift.

Happened upon this museum and spent an hour looking around the exhibition of African pottery. I had the say the building was as interesting as exhibition. The is a clay room at the end where children mould a few pieces. A fun thing to do out of the rain.

This an interesting house, some lovely carvings. Good coffee and a choice of cakes. Lunch was full of variety and enjoyable. The unbound exhibition was full of interesting textiles especially the Alice Kettle and a very fine example of Kantha quilting. The shop had great variety.

A magnificent big house with mahogny wood panelling and staircase, decorated with interesting wood-carved historical and fictional figures. It often has interesting exhibitions going on. Staff are warm, friendly and delightful. It is a beautiful but also intimate venue, really worth a visit.

Two Temple Place housed the offices of William Waldorf Astor. The building is absolutely gorgeous. It's not generally open to the public (it's now home to a charity called the Bulldog Trust) but every spring there is a free exhibition. Even if you don't think the art will be interesting, you should definitely visit just to see the beautiful interiors. You should also chat to the room stewards who are wonderful and can tell you many of the building's secrets!

A great free exhibition of glass, historic and contemporary. Lovely cafe on site; cake recommended. Displays include a large uranium glass high chair. The largest piece of uranium glass I've seen, and most beautiful.

A wonderful Thames side Victorian Gothic building with stunning carved wood decoration and beautiful stained glass windows. The current, very popular, exhibition is The Glass Heart, featuring the history of English glass making, for art and industry. Non-members can only visit during exhibitions. The current one runs until 21 April. And it's free to enter.

Beautiful old house, stained glass windows, intricately carved staircase. A little hidden gem in London. Only a few rooms are open to view with a small gift shop upstairs. Free entry and definitely worth a look if you are around temple.

A golden opportunity to visit an interesting exhibition in a fabulous historical building. Free admission was a bonus as was the wonderful selection of snacks and drinks in the lovely inhouse cafe. The explicit features in the building are a delight for anyone to admire and examine.

I enjoyed exploring this historic house again as part of the art show Eye of the Collector . The original dark-wooden panelled rooms and staircase give a fairytale, gothic air, even though many rooms are sunny and coloured by stained glass. If you can find it open, do go and visit!

It’s just near the Temple tube station. The stained glass exhibition was lovely and free for public. For those who are interested in glass making and art of it, definitely recommended. Donation is optional but would advise to do so, it’s to help it stay free for everyone.

This beautiful building isn't open to the public that often so it was excellent to see it's interior. The reason it's open at the moment is the building is hosting the lovely exhibition 'The Glass Heart' until 21st April 2024. Thoroughly recommended.

Visited the Glass exhibition which is free to enter so definitely value for money! (Open until April 2024 I think) 2 Temple place is also a gem of a place and the volunteer stewards are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the building, it's ornate decoration and history. There's a cafe too. After visiting take a walk around the Temple grounds, an amazing open space, it's like entering a different world!

One of London's truly hidden gems. Few people know about it, and it doesn't help that it's closed for half of the year... Still, what a fantastic building. The interiors are a true delight to behold, with some magnificent woodwork on the stairwell, as well as some excellent stained glass on the upper floor. The exhibitions are consistently good, if small. The place in itself is an event. I love it.

Didn’t take a chance to get in because of the review, stating that there’s not much to see their be on the architecture in south. However, that being said, the outside of the architectures, beautiful, and worth a walk past it.

This is a hidden gem. As an artistic venue it is brilliant itself with a gothic style beautifully furnished with a great stained glass window and architectural features. The exhibition was Stateless by various Asian artists and that was very interesting in itself. I think there is a week or two left to see it and I highly recommend it.

  • 5/5 Paola C. 1 year ago on Google
This hidden London gem, it has free entry and lots of well-informed volunteer guides to talk visitors through the variety of architectural features and characters from history and fiction, depicted in various media. The exhibitions almost detract from the beauty and charm of the place. An absolutely fascinating building, not to be missed

What a beautiful building and interesting concept. Former home of Waldorf Astor on the Thames that opens to the public and a gallery. The exhibition on Jazz in Britain was lovely, but the the most excellent part of the visit was looking at the house! I wish I'd had a tour of that. Do buy the book about it to learn more than I know, but the carvings on the staircase posts and woo panels alone are worth the visit! There is a stained glass ceiling and several stained glass windows, and a secret door in the library.

An absolute must see "hidden gem" that I suspect 99% of Londoners are unaware of. Perfectly preserved interior, interesting exhibitions, surprise features that a guide can tell you about.

  • 5/5 CUDD L. 5 years ago on Google
This is another hidden gem in the heart of London, located on the north bank of the River Thames. This is a once private house belonging to John Ruskin (2 Temple place). It's a stately home hidden behind an old Victorian park very near Temple underground station. Who will want to visit this place? I think anybody interested in Art, History or how the rich and wealthy lived in the past. You can get up close and personal, take pictures (so long as you don't use a flash) and they also have guided tours and other educational activities. Is is not somewhere to bring your children.

An excellent venue, interesting in its own right. The annual special exhibitions in late winter are invariably well worth visiting. They tend to feature unusual items sourced from various regional or local collections on a particular theme. This year's display themed on specialist textile collections is no exception with beautiful examples of historic costumes, fabrics and artefacts from various countries including the Balkans, featuring exceptional sewing skills. Modest in scale the exhibits can be enjoyed without becoming swamped by too much material in this case literal and metaphorical). All free of charge!

  • 5/5 Sophie G. 5 years ago on Google
Mind-blowing neo-Gothic Victorian mansion, home of William Waldorf Astor. The austere facade hides a beautiful and opulent interior with wood panelling and intricate carving, reflecting Astor’s passion for history, literature and all arts. Absolutely outstanding. Rarely opens its doors so watch out for exhibitions and go see this gem.
