This memorial is to Sir Joseph Bazalgette, a 19th-century English civil engineer, whose major achievement was the creation of a network of sewers for central London. Improving sanitation and which was instrumental in relieving the city from cholera epidemics common at the time. The memorial is of a bust sculpture of Joseph Bazelgette and is located on Victoria Embankment, opposite Embankment Station. Nothing amazing to see,, but worth a quick detour if in the area.

This is a kind of memorial that you just run in to. Hidden in plain sight! Born 28th of March 1819, SirJoseph Bazalgette was a civil engineer and chief engineer of London's Metropolitan Board of Works. His major achievement was the creation of a sewer network for central London. Because of "The Great Stink" in1858, authorities asked him to solve the problems. Bazalgette work was instrumental in relieving the city from cholera epidemics, while beginning the cleansing of the River Thames. He died 15th of March 1891.

Lovely hidden bit of Latin epigraphy in the heart of London. “Flumini vincula posuit” - translates to “he placed chains in the river” or “he placed the river in chains”. Big up his sewerage system!
