Beautiful old music hall tucked away in the East End of London. It’s only been partially restored but is still gorgeous. It’s full of quirky old staircases and the entrance door is a masterpiece. In keeping with its music hall roots it stages fairly small shows for fairly limited runs. As of March 2022 it was showing the all male version of HMS Pinafore (wonderful). Ticket prices are very reasonable. There’s a bar serving drinks and fairly substantial snacks. Highly recommended.

Fascinating venue! It’s an old Victorian music hall that I can call jaw-dropping. The restoration brought up its beauty in amazing way. Visited last month to see Christine Bovill’s show. The bar is on ground floor and it’s really cozy with a very wide range of spirits for all tastes and pockets. They also privately hire rooms for birthday celebrations. The hall itself is otherworldly. Staff are extremely helpful and obliging. Clean toilets. Overall it was a stunning experience. I cannot recommend enough this place. Well done to all those who keep it open and functional.

This is a bit quirky and it feels a bit as if it is a disused theatre where someone decided to put on shows without doing it up first, but it is a very interesting place to visit. It has a lot of history involving social reform, religion, and the Battle of Cable Street. Although it has pillars in the auditorium, their twisted shape means they don't restrict your view as much as those of some West End Theatres, but the floor of the stalls is quite flat rather than raked so you may have heads blocking your view - unless you are in the raised seats at the back.

This is the oldest theater outside London's city limits. It is one of those secrets of London. The play on the day was excellent equivalent to any West end play. In the afternoon the bar only serves drinks. Nice staff and pleasant patrons. To get here by foot you walk from Aldgate East and cross over Cabal Street. Another secret of London. The battle of Cable Street. Look for the plaque on the corner or Wiki.

We just had our wedding in Wilton’s and it’s been the most amazing day! The venue and its atmosphere is absolutely stunning and was exactly what we were looking for. We had the entire building to ourselves which was great to spread out to get ready, serve drinks and mingle as well as entertain kids in a separate area while the main auditorium was turned around between ceremony, dinner service and party. While we were not too involved in the logistics as we were lucky to have a wedding planner, everything went smoothly and without a hitch. All our guests were impressed with the venue and we were almost happy about the pouring rain on the day which only added to the atmosphere! Highly recommend this historic building and the lovely team to anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion!

I have never been to a music hall like this. The atmosphere is amazing. The building is so old but so nicely preserved! It's really worth the experience! By the way this is the gin and tonic that I ordered. What a fabulous glass haha

Venue is an old church, rustic and charming with a sense on intimacy. Bar and dining area atmosphere are relaxed, staff bright bubbly and fun...not always easy to find somewhere to sit, but works out eventually. Pizzas are fantastic including gluten free ones. Seating in theatre is very cramped ..not sure chairs have to be linked in order to fit in but you do end up very close to person sitting next to you.. well worth a visit xx

Came back to the Wilton’s Music Hall yesterday night after what felt like ages. It is still as stunning as it was plus the refurbishment looked amazing, giving It’s old glory back to the place. We attended the HMS Pinafore show and the cast was incredible, worth a visit for both (and the bar)

This should be a must visit for anyone in London! Saved from development, this 150 year old original music hall is the definition of shabby-chic..... except this is the real deal! Regular performances from various of the performing arts and a great bar where the original pub was serve to make for a great evening. The bar is available even if you're not booked for one of the shows. Well worth seeking out!

First time visited Wilton Music Hall is I think the oldest music hall in London. Reminiscint of the old TV series The Good Old Days. A fine historic building. Saw The Merchant of Venice 1936. Which brings the Shakespeare play up-to-date against the rise of the British Fascists under Oswald Moseley between the wars. And the historic battle of cable street which occurred on the streets outside the hall. Where the good people of the east end, English, Irish Catholics, dockers, the African community stood with their Jewish neighbours to resist the black shirts of Moseley. A play sadly relevant today against the pretext of Palestinian rights demonstrations support the Hamas party which has denied the Gazan people the vote since 2008 A worthwhile play which is touring England. A historic building to visit.

This is one of the best performance spaces in London. I love the shabby chic aesthetic - you can really imagine going to this place when it was a music hall. I hadn't been for a while - my last show was a brilliant gig we stood up for - and this time they had comfy seats for a sit down performance, which is fab. We saw Sasha Regan's all male The Mikado which was riotously funny and so enjoyable. If you like Gilbert and Sullivan get and see one of the performances at Wilton's - you won't be disappointed, especially with the prices! The staff are polite and helpful and the bar is lovely too (a little small - can be hard to find a seat) with what looked like decent food.

Beautiful theatre keeping a lot of the original features. Has great areas/nooks for a drink and a bite before theatre or just to enjoy their yummy goose sausage roll/pizzas and other nibbles. Was told by a friend there are times when you can hire the venue for events too. Seats in theatre was reasonably comfortable.

Such an amazing historic place. Small cosy theatre with bare walls and wroght iron bannisters, stone floors, it looks a few hundred years old. The bar is great, can come have a drink even without theatre tickets. We'll worth a visit.

In the heart of historic East London this is a gem. Good food, fair range of ales and wines tasty food, unique atmosphere. Then you also have a unique survivor of a theatre/ music hall . Friendly, welcoming and relaxed in a stunning environment.

Beautiful venue, steeped in history and a hidden gem of a building surrounded by modern London. Lovely pre bar for snacks and drinks. All seats get you close to the performances. Good facilities for all, including good accessible access. Friendly staff. A real treat.

I have visited Wilton's on many occasions & always enjoyable. My last visit was on Sat15th Feb 2020 - matinee show & at the interval l felt unwell & sat in the Mahogany room in the second half. Just to say "Thank You" to the members of staff/ first aiders who kept a discreet eye on me whilst l sat in the Mahogany room.

Absolutely wonderful place. Steeped in character, really good shows, plenty of bars with seating and food. Wiltons is quite a historic place. Its run by a charity I think and although its probably structurally sound, it certainly shows its age. I liked the roughness. I really felt that I was going back in time. My recommendation would be to look at whats coming up and find something you’ll like. Dont wait for a must see because just going to Wilton’s is enough of an experience.

Hugely atmospheric venue steeped in history, with lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Watched the Box of Delights here over Christmas 2017, which was a fantastic experience. The downstairs bar has a decent range of beers and a limited but great food menu. Sadly the excellent cocktail bar upstairs is now relegated to a gin bar only.

Well...what can you say! It is glorious. Even more so when you see a show as incredible as Midsummer Nights Dream (2020). Simply stunning venue. Excellent staff. Just a bloody dream really.

Great venue, but the seating space was horrendous! The legroom meant I was cramped in for 1½hours of the performance. Thankfully, the performers were excellent, but I couldn't wait for it to finish 😶 beautiful hall though

What a place, a hidden gem. I live close by and wasn't aware of this great venue. I attended a wonderful play and definitely will be back for more events.

  • 5/5 Stanley D. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent venue to see a show. More importantly, a pint of Amstel was a very reasonable £5.20 and a portion of fries £3.50. The seats aren't the comfiest and are pretty small and close together, but it's an old historic building so I'll let them off! From glancing around around the theatre, it didn't seem like any of the seats sold as restricted view online would be that bad at all.

Wilton Music Hall is one of the most beautiful theatres I have ever seen in London. Why? Because it's captured and preserved the Victorian style better than anywhere else. Stepping through the threshold felt more like stepping back in time. It's not shiny or modern, neither grand or vast. The walls are worn and the paint is peeling, and gas lantern long extinguished. But there is charm there that not many theatres in London can boast. It's shabby chic. Even the signage is victorian-esque. More than just a theatre, there is a bar with a decent selection of craft beers on tap and an upstairs dining area. You're welcome to catch-up with friends, drink and be merry at Wilton even if you don't have a ticket to a show. Honestly, one of London's great hidden architectural gems. It's easy to see why it's the choice of venue for many after-work drinks and events.

A restored music hall that now has a mixed use for the performing arts in a very varied way, magic, puppets, cabaret, dance. Once scheduled for demolition but saved thanks to donations from Spike Milligan and Pete Sellers etc. Noted for it's cast iron pillars. Near the Tower of London and well woth a visit. Grade II listed.

Amazing place! It was on my bucket list to have a family night at the Carradine's Cockney Knees up. Three generations of my family had a fantastic time. It is a wonderful space, very subtly conserved so it retains the feel of the original music hall. It is almost like walking into a space that has been placed into a time capsule and re-opened for the modern day. Also had a bar pizza which was great and wine isn't too unreasonably priced bearing in mind the type of historical venue that it is. Staff were also great throughout the night. Thanks for giving us a really memorable night out!
