Extremely busy, Good coffee, great baked goods, customer service needs work. I saw a customer asked to get up and leave because they were seated alone outside (with coffee and a snack); reason: "a family with a dog has paid for eat in, but can't be sat inside, hence this seat is needed"

The best pastries and baked goods around. Always busy at the weekends. I’d say coffee is slightly better at Redemption down the road, but Gail’s is a cornerstone of the Dulwich Village area. It’s hard to resist popping in when the smell of freshly baked croissants and cinnamon buns can be smelt from a block away. This Gail’s also has outside seating so great for anyone with a dog or for enjoying a sunny day. If it’s really lovely weather, get your coffee and pastry to go and eat it in Dulwich Park just 5 mins away.

Undeniably good coffee but customer service is not great. I ordered an oat milk flat white, wasn’t told the price, just handed over the card machine and when I questioned it, I was barked it was £3.90 because “you’re having it in! It’s an extra 40p because you asked for oat milk!”

This branch has gone downhill of late. Popped in on 1/10/23 to buy cinnamon rolls and bread. Staff seemed put out that their chit chat had been interrupted by me and were anything but helpful. Despite being told back in July that my old skool loyalty card would be honoured until redeemed, this was dismissed with a "you need to get our app - the card is no longer in use". I'll be taking my custom elsewhere from now.

Sorry guys but not into the revamp at all. Why have you lost lots of your indoor seating?? Also if ordering to eat in, you now have to stand and wait whilst holding your food tray (and any children you may have)for your drink, and then try and find a seat - which there aren’t any of? Massively inconvenient for families and will mean we can’t visit anymore as it’s too tricky to juggle all the elements. Rather than them bringing your food/drink when it’s ready whilst you get seated. Not sure why they’ve changed something that worked perfectly well?

Why do companies decide to renovate places without consulting with local users or the staff who actually work there? Was such a nice cosy and comfortable place to go, now the beautiful leather seats at Gail's Dulwich Village have been replaced by a hard wooden bench barely wide enough for my average sized bottom (seriously, try it) and headache inducing lighting. Staff clearly clambering over each other because they have less space behind the counter than before. A renovation but with less display space for bread and food than before? Makes no sense. A beautiful cafe ruined.

Stung for 17quid and had to wait long for coffee. Told to sit and enjoy my bun and come back to counter for coffee later!! Full of very patient tolerant people doing same thing.

As a resident of Dulwich Village, been going to Gails for many years. Me and my wife went in yesterday (29/10/2022) around 11am possibly looking for same soup. A lady on the tills who was happy and cheery serving other customer with a smile until we approached her face dropped. We the. Proceeded to ask if there was soup, to which she then rolled her eyes and went to check behind her. There seemed to be soup in the small cauldrons, but she then turned around and simply just said “no” with a unsettling face. Not sure if ill be going back here anytime soon, but its the first time we felt unwelcome there maybe being the only Asian people in the shop at the time.

STAFF ARE RACISTTTT!! Went here this morning (29/10/22 at 11amish) and queued up to order. When we got to the front of the queue the lady at the tills face dropped and looked disgusted at us. I was really confused as she was happy and smiley with the previous customer and as soon as she looked at us, her face completely changed. I asked if they still had any soup and she rolled her eyes as she went to check. By that time I just wanted to leave as this was extremely poor customer service and as the only non white person in the shop I felt like this was deffo the only reason she treated me how she did which made me feel extremely uncomfortable

After a family meal at Pizza Express, we saw this place shining invitingly from across the road. So we went in, to find a nice clean modern bakery, which presented its cakes quite nicely. The little cakes we brought were quite nice. BUT the service we received from the lady staff member was quite unfriendly to the point of being rude, which didn't''t fit in with the place we saw. As said the cakes we brought were nice and the bakery was quite bright and clean. We won't be going back again, just purely on the service we received. Shame.

One of the best bakery's you'll find in London for sure. I've pretty much tried everything on the menu and never been disappointed. Always fresh and always tasty. Babycino was nice and foamy too.

Yesterday my partner and I had the worst cappuccinos here, if you can even call that coffee a cappuccino. The milk was burnt to such an extend it was undrinkable for 10 min afterwards, not to mention I asked for oat milk in mine and I got normal milk. Unfortunately we were in a rush and only tried the coffee after we left, so did not have a chance to return it. Very disappointing!

I became a regular during lockdown. Going for a walk & having a takeaway coffee from the Gail. Spacious place and cautious staff. Edit on Jan 2024: They changed the layout looks better now but there should be more indoor seating area, difficult to find a place lol. I like their chocolate&hazelnut muffin and parmesan chicken, give it a try 😋

We love Gail's pastries - we tend to have them for birthday treats and then go mad on their delicious croissants, cinnamon buns and fabulous bread. Unfortunately for the second time in the last few month's they omitted to include all the items - arrived home to find no cinnamon buns! So disappointed but can't really drive back when family gathered round ready for brunch... So careless.

Abysmal service, contemptuous of customers. I have lived in the village for 20 years and have visited Gail’s regularly prepared to put the prices to one side because of the quality of the produce. The service, attitude and contempt of customers today was so bad I will never go back. This branch is doing it’s bit to ruin the brand name.

To be honest with you this is nice place with nice coffee and cakes I’ve never had a problem here and if I did trust me it would be addressed instantly I just think there are to many people that are just to picky or just love to moan about nothing so do your self a favour and stop talking rubbish. Gail’s is lovely

I have visited here twice now. The place is always busy but the staff are quick with the orders. The food is overpriced at times and the quality not always up to expectations. For example, I ordered a hot chocolate that sounded great from the menu but it arrived in the smallest cup and was verily mildly chocolatey. Appropriate for a child maybe but not what I was expecting.

Stunning! Edit: Great selection of freshly baked bread - proved to be very tasty as well. Ready to go sandwiches - the chicken burger and the avocado & salmon were incredibly tasty. Prompt customer service with a nice smile. Will definitely revisit each time I'm nearby!

Great staff, hot chocolate, coffee and food. Lovely ambiance. Being a confined cramped place during the mornings suggest 2 things: (1) notice be put and enforced that it be "laptop free" to prevent hogging of a tables with a cup of coffee - have seen this rule in many other coffee shops.(2) Dogs be kept out for hygiene. Wishing the team all the best.

Great pastries and decent coffee . However the customer service could include a Smile and there were a lot of uncleared tables .

I went with my autistic child and my wife , we go on a weekly basis, and the customer service is bad , staff are extremely rude with no patience . I remember a young man with dark blonde hair was serving us a hot Chocolate to me and my child and he was so rude and had no respect towards me or my autistic child. I am so disappointed! That should not happen again. People should be kinder :( I am thinking of report it to the local council Southwark council training standers.

I went on a busy Saturday morning and there wasn’t a place to sit. I had two sandwiches, one was really good and tasty. But the second one the bagel was a bit stale considering the price.

Just been into the newly refurbished branch of Gail’s in Dulwich Village and I have to say I’m very disappointed with the outcome. The seating capacity has been reduced enormously and it’s now basically turned into a grab a coffee and go joint. Such a shame and I for one will be taking my custom elsewhere.
