It’s an incredible gem to find. The gallery is not big. The impressionists collection is fantastic. Located at the top floor of the gallery, it has paintings of Monet, Manet, Van Gogh and more. The rest of the collection worth checking as well. The building itself is interesting and inspiring. Particularly the staircase. The gallery is located in one of the wings of the Somerset House and the view of the inner yard is nice from its top floor windows. The Gallery is a bit pricey as for its size. I personally think that the experience is worth these money.

The permanent collection, includes a bonanza of acclaimed Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. Massively impressive: sustains an air of authority and expertise. Faultless mounting, lighting and curation - I emphasise faultless. A dedicated “Bloomsbury Group” Room inspired by their “loose” dis-association attempts to evoke the period design ethos. Located in the inestimable Somerset House, find the Courtauld, a cornerstone of London’s Art Establishment. Essential London

(Translated by Google) If I lived in London this museum would be one of my most loved recurring goals. Only the masterpiece of Manet "Bar alle Folies-Bergère" is worth the price of the ticket, how can one not be hypnotized by this magnificent work, but this is only the icing on the cake of a museum that offers the visitor a series of Impressionist gems post-Impressionists: And can one not mention Van Gogh's "Self-portrait with blindfolded ear"? Sublime. But it did not end here. Noteworthy are the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque paintings (Botticelli, Rubens, Parmigianino ...). And we want to forget about the exposed paintings of the twentieth century (Modigliani, Matisse, Kandinsky above all)? Not a chance! In short, here you will find a real summa of art history, put together with meticulous patience by Samuel Courtauld, a British art collector who lived between 800 and 900. In my opinion then the extra touch of this collection is given by the beauty of the rooms of the eighteenth-century Somerset House that host it, held in a wonderful way. Here too, great attention has been paid to the illumination of the paintings, which enhance them by putting the spectator at ease. I was then impressed by the bookshop and the publications for sale. The wealth of information contained in the catalog of the collection, for example, is really exhaustive and denotes the genuine passion for the art of the author, light years away from similar publications of other museums, designed more as souvenirs for tourists.

This art gallery is beautiful. It was not crowded or noisy like a large museum. We enjoyed leisurely strolling through the peaceful, uncrowded rooms and sitting on the benches gazing at the world famous art. The gallery isn’t very big but it houses world famous art from the early Renaissance to the 20th century. We enjoyed the Impressionist paintings the most where Van Gogh’s iconic self portrait Bandaged Ear is on display. Claude Monet and other famous painters share this space. If you love art, this is marvelous place to spend some time.

Went for the Van Gogh's self portrait exhibition in April 2022, ended up enjoying the impressionist paintings more, away from the crowd. Huge collection from middle age to contemporary time. Will surely visit the gallery again.

Enjoyed a full morning here, building and art equally fascinating. Beautiful courtyard and multiple cafes. Cute gift shop, disappointing selection of postcards though. Would recommend a visit, did cost £10 entrance but it all helps to keep it running.

I went the gallery for the first time for Van Gogh exhibition and I wish I have been here more often. The exhibition featured a great range of Van Gogh's self- portraits, allowing you to see the change in his art style and technique. There was certain time when the exhibition room could be very busy. If you hang around a tad longer, there should be quiet time and more space to enjoy the painting. You can also see the works of Monet, Manet and many other great artists in the gallery. I didn't have much time after the exhibition so couldn't give myself enough time to enjoy these artworks. Will definitely visit the gallery again.

Impressive gallery within the impressive Somerset House. The Courtauld Gallery starts right from the ground floor all the way up to the top floor (aka 3rd floor). It’s a busy place to go to, lots of people coming in and out. The cafe opposite the gallery is packed non-stop. Courtlauld’s staircase is a beautiful stairwell that leaves you astonished and leads you to the top floor where a breathtaking painting wall-to-wall is. Numerous halls with permanent and temporary exhibitions. Staff are on the snotty side; a bit blunt and rude at times but I guess they deal with masses of people daily which makes them heroes in my eyes. I visited the Van Gogh self-portraits exhibition to witness that master mind of expressionism and I was not disappointed. I’d highly recommend this gallery at any given point in time under any circumstances. Very clean facilities.

It is just amazing. The setting is beautiful. Manet, Monet, Sickert, Ruben's etc, they have so many, even the ceilings are painted yet every painting has plenty of space. The Peter Doig exhibition was interesting, his paintings draw you in and seem to glow. . In every gallery found myself sitting in the centre of the room to take it all in. Staff are friendly. I'd like to go back and do a tour. Excellent discount for students.

This gallery has become one of my favorite galleries in London. The gallery itself is so beautiful. Theres a lot to see in the third floor especially, but one thing that disappointed me was putting Van Gogh’s Self-portrait with Bandaged Ear in their special exhibition with another extra fee. But still besides that, there are great pics to see and worth visiting here!

A world class art gallery run by a trust. Whilst not being the largest of galleries, it has become a favourite due to the exquisite curation, the gorgeous settings and the very tasteful, rich collection. You could easily spend a good few hours admiring this great selection of art, spanning from Italian middle ages and Renaissance, British pastel works and French impressionism. A gorgeous staircase dominates the settings offering great beauty spots for pictures. The souvenir shop is a delight in itself. Located on the lower ground floor, the entrance is set between and arched fore-room. The selection of merchandise is exquisite and rather vast, the displays are perfection and the general vibe is just the right balance of relaxed sophistication. Entry ticket is around £10 but totally worth the price.

I went to this gallery on Saturday and even though there were many people I wouldn’t say it was overcrowded. There was enough space to enjoy the stunning paintings as well as the staircase. The normal entry was £12 and didn’t include Van Gogh, for which you need to book in advance. I wish it was free as other galleries in Somerset house. But if you don’t mind the price and the size of the gallery then I definitely recommend as some of the artwork is really beautiful.

The Courtauld Gallery is an art museum in Somerset House, on the Strand in central London. It houses the art collection of the Courtauld Institute of Art, a self-governing college of the University of London specialising in the study of the history of art. The Courtauld collection was formed largely through donations and bequests and includes paintings, drawings, sculptures and other works from medieval to modern times; it is particularly known for its French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. In total, the collection contains some 530 paintings and over 26,000 drawings and prints. The Head of the Courtauld Gallery is Ernst Vegelin. The gallery closed on 3rd September 2018 for at least two years during a major redevelopment called Courtauld Connects.

Anyone who likes the Early Impressionist & Impressionist like Manet, van Gogh, and Cezanne must visit the LVMH Great Room on the third floor. On the 2nd floor, Rubens & 17th century. On the 1st floor, you'll find in the Medieval Gallery a Courtauld Bag! This gallery is really worth a visit. There are lifts for easy access. Lower ground floor you will find gift shops, toilets and lockers.

The Courtauld Gallery exceeded our already high expectations. The attentive, courteous staff and the elegant classical historic facilities provide an enhanced environment for a unique (but limited) collection of some of the world’s finest art. Rather than an overwhelming inventory of a larger gallery, we appreciated the overwhelming beauty of a few Renoirs, a few porcelains, and a few Arabic silver works among the other gems of this eclectic collection.

Coming to this was a truly amazing experience, as this gallery contains all the best impressionist painters displayed under one roof. The creme of the crop. It allows you not only enjoy some lesser known painting from stars like Manet, Pissaro, Gauguin, Matisse, etc. but also find some new fabulous artist who are just not as known. So far my favourite museum in London was National gallery, but now in my heart it has a really tough competition. At least in terms of intensity of emotions, Courtauld gallery has really exceeded all of my expectations. It is a paid gallery, unlike most of the other amazing London galleries, but it's well worthed. Be sure to visit the museum before it closes down for reconstruction, as the interiors, especially the stairs, are also quite stunning and you also don't want to wait for 2 years to see this beauty.

A fantastic building the Gallery was very well displayed allot to see and look at we were very impressed and it was worth the visit very reasonable price we had a good time Neighborhood: Trafalgar Square / Embankment With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.

Fantastic refurbishment of the Impressionist&Pointallist rooms and also the Post-Impressionist galleries at the Courtauld Gallery in London, means it is light and spacious and showing more work! And a lovely little section with a small range of artists' work from the Bloomsbury We had a wonderful guide to the exhibition, from Helen Higgins. It feels so light and airy there and spacious. The exhibition 'Reworking Manet' was superb! Again, we were guided around, which made such a difference. Helen had co-curated the exhibition with artist Jeremy Deller and, put simply, it involved teenagers from a range of schools across the UK responding to a famous Manet painting of a female bar tender. For relatively young people, the responses were incredibly mature, interesting and diverse! From modern art approaches to a fab bomber jacket to work showing an understanding of the feminist perspective, all pieces were of a high standard! Thanks to Helen and the Courtauld staff for all the great work that you do! It is much appreciated! I'll be back!! Regards.Maggie

Would have given it full 5 stars if it wasn't for the rude staff member who asked me to "keep your distance" from a painting when I was looking up close at the brush work etc the painting had no floor markings indicating such, and was covered with glass. You go in here stress free but after that the staff member totally ruined my experience in here. No other staff asked me this beforehand or after when I was looking at other paintings close up. I saw other staff enforcing strange rules to others but picking and choosing who they enforced their rules on - some people had to wear their rucksacks on their fronts/chests yet others who had the same sized rucksacks had them on their backs and staff said nothing - clearly judging customers on how you look/dress. This gallery isn't a very relaxing place to go, instead it causes anxiety about the next rule someone wants to enforce on you so won't be going in here again!

I really enjoyed the exhibition on display and the staff were nice too. The whole gallery is beautiful to be honest and I would definitely come again to bring friends or recommend to others. I’d definitely going to the gift shop too- many products are expensive but there are some bookmarks for £3.50 and postcards for cheaper than that. The Courtauld Gallery in London is a small but well-curated museum with a stunning collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and modern art. The gallery is housed in Somerset House, a beautiful 18th-century building on the Strand. The Courtauld's collection is particularly strong in French art, with works by Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Gauguin, and Van Gogh. In addition to its permanent collection, the Courtauld hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions throughout the year. Recent exhibitions have featured the work of Picasso, Matisse, and Rembrandt. The Courtauld Gallery is a must-visit for art lovers of all levels. The collection is small enough to be seen in a few hours, but there is enough to keep you engaged for much longer. The gallery is also a great place to learn about the history of modern art.

An underappreciated gem among the museums and galleries of London, the Courtauld Gallery gives you time and space to experience many iconic paintings from the Renaissance to the 20th Century, such as Bruegel the Elder's haunting Landscape with the Flight into Egypt, Manet’s enigmatic A Bar at the Folies-Bergère and Cézanne's melancholy The Card Players. The gallery's Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collection is particularly strong, but there are also plenty of other pieces of interest, as well as separate exhibitions and displays (although I was disappointed by the surfeit of Roger Fry and lack of Vanessa Bell in the Bloomsbury Art & Design display). Perfect for a leisurely Sunday afternoon.

The Courtauld Gallery is one of the very best art galleries in London and perhaps one of the finest collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist are in the world. This is where you can find famous paintings like Van Gogh's 'Self-Portrait with bandaged ear' (1889) and Manet's 'A bar at the Folies-Bergere (1882). Two of our personal favourites are Cezanne's 'Man with Pipe' and 'The Card Players' (1882-1886), and there much more from the likes or Gauguin, Monet, Renoir and other masters of the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist era. At the Courtauld Gallery, you can also see a few works from the Medieval period as well as paintings from the Renaissance through to the 20th century. While overshadowed by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works, for which the gallery is renowned, there are some very nice pieces to be seen in these collections as well. The Courtauld Gallery also features impressive exhibitions throughout the year. See the Courtauld Gallery website for special exhibition details. In the end, The Courtauld Gallery is a gem of a museum and place that art lovers will want to consider visiting when preparing their itineraries for trips to London.

One of the best collections in London (only second to the Wallace collection in my opinion). The Courtauld has a great diversity of chronological curation from medieval art which is fantastically preserved and presented up to impressionist masterpieces. Student discounts are great as well as ArtFund pass holders. Take at least an hour to see the whole thing, including the drawing room.

(Translated by Google) The framing of this table in Wikipedia is inaccurate, which distorts all the work of interpretation of the work. Only the Courtauld version is accurate, but the colors are disastrously bland, bluishly appalling ...
