I have visited now on a couple of occasions for different exhibitions and find them intriguing, thought provoking and enjoyable. Not all are what I expect them to be, that's part of the enjoyment. Staff are helpful and considerate has a great book store and excellent cafe. Will be going again. Would happily become a member of I didn't live over 100 miles away.

Reception team are welcoming and friendly! They invite you to view all of the current exhibitions, and start on the 5th floor. Disabled access via lifts is great and the WCs are on most levels too. Cafe is on the ground floor, always a bonus and outside seating is available too, small artistic benches. The exhibition's were great, Deutsche Bank Photography Prize was emotional and thought provoking, including sensational imagery too! For the record, included a variety of LP covers from various musical genres. I appreciate the work on the researcher and curator, and do see further development from this exhibition too. It would be great to look at modern digital culture and its impact on the photographer/artist creative direction.

A wonderful experience at the Photographer's Gallery! Daido Moriyama's work was presented in an outstanding manner. Very inspiring insights into his work, which make you eager to take pictures yourself. Also great that admission is free after 5 pm on Fridays! However, the regular admission would be completely justified as well.

Photographers’ Gallery always has at least one floor with intriguing content. However, they should refresh their curating team and show to the younger generation that the old-school print making is equal rival of the digital media. For catching the crowds you need more curiosity. I felt each floor disconnected from one another. There is plenty if space for a great story telling. Sometimes less is more, overall, great place, would recommend it to anyone. The cafe area is just perfect. I will bring back a few models for portraits.

Really enjoyable break from the hustle and bustle of nearby Soho and Carnaby street. Well laid out exhibition starting on the top floor. There’s a really great book shop in the basement and as well and also a cafe although we didn’t ordering anything from there so can’t comment on quality or price, but it was busy so that says something in its self.

Outstanding curation. It was impossible to separate the brilliance of the curation from the brilliance of the photography. It was shocking, I was really blown away by my visit of the Daido Moriyama retrospective. Deeply inspiring and exquisite. Highly recommend it but to be fair, this gallery has never done anything other than impress me.

If you are into photography, don't visit this place! I live in London and I regularly visit photo museums, exhibitions and galleries all over the world. I have given this place the benefit of doubt many times, but I am sorry to say that it has disappointed me on most occasions and I was out again in 10 minutes. The gallery does not focus on photography, it is only interested in exploring the fringes of photography. The exhibitions feel far fetched and pretentious (screen shots from computer games!!!??? really?) The floors are very small already but on top of that the exhibitions are very fragmented with too many topics covered and too few and too small photographs for each photographer. Usually the names of these mostly famous and highly regarded photographers are very prominent on advertisements, to lure people in and to find only a handful of small pictures in the actual exhibition is very disappointing. Despite the lack of space they always seem to find space to exhibit things other than photographs (documents etc). I seriously question the capability of the people curating these exhibitions and would question whether their desperate need to appear "artsy" is greater than their love for actual photography. I would recommend them visiting the shop in the basement, which is the best part of the gallery and holds an excellent collection of books, equipment and paraphernalia. Maybe this can provide some inspiration for what the next exhibition should look like.

Lovely open space gallery. The exhibiting I went to see was well curated, and I am a fan of how much they support local and young artists and organise educational programmes for young kids. Nice outing for central london away from the noise

I love this gallery! Splits different collections onto different floors and seems also quite a hub for photographers! Also, it’s free admission after 5 (it closes at 6 but one hour it’s just enough time to wonder around the whole gallery!). It seems to get quite a few different collections change over often. Good to see some really really good art and get inspired!

The latest Helen Levitt exhibition is a must see for any street photography enthusiasts, although entry is not free it's worth every penny. the shop in the basement stocks all sorts of 35mm film as well as prints from previous exhibitions.

Thoroughly enjoyed all the exhibitions open during my visit in early June. I would highly recommend this gallery. The location is great, the spaces are nice, the staff are very welcoming and most of all, the photographs on display are beautiful.

Really enjoyed the Helen Levitt's exposition. I had never heard of her work and I enjoyed the way she portrays movement. I very much loved her coloured photos which were a little gem to see.

An exceptional place, a must visit for anyone who is intrigued by at least a little photography. The gallery is on several floors with not very large halls, but manages to hold attention. So, in the center of lively, fast-paced and intense London, this is an island that will make you stop to look around and admire one of the wonders of humanity - Photography 📷

An absolutely MUST see in London, if you are into art. Small but very profound place. The exhibition is changing from time to time so the visit is never the same ☺️ and a book store is mind blowing - you find there everything on photography including newest magazines.

Central location is good and easy to find. Place is immaculate and there’s clean toilets on almost all floors. It’s got a cafe with decent seating and a shop in the basement selling all sorts of photo bits and books. Exhibitions are hit and miss as with all art. Cost was reasonable and a different place to stop off on the way to the station.

Specifically visited to see the Guardian Striking Images exhibition. Very disappointing. Over 200 small snapshots arranged without rhyme or reason, most of which had little or no contextual information. The decision to leave some of these photos with the original editors' cropping marks was pointless. There were some very interesting images in amongst the mediocre; just a bit more thought and care by the curators could have made this an inspiring event. As it stands it comes across as lazy and unimaginative. Come on TPG, you seem to be losing your way!

It remains one of my favourite places to visit in London due to the quality of the exhibitions, the reasonable entry fees, the calm and welcoming atmosphere and the small but packed shop and cafe.

Small but excellent Gallery. The show we saw of photos from the Russian Arctic was fantastic. Photos that looked like paintings, taken with very little light. However it was the last day. So you've missed it.

Very important institution for photography, culture and social encounters. The library offers a very wide range of photography books and they sell also a lot of kinds of film rolls. The entry prices are not so expensive and the exhibition I went to were interesting and well curated. Photo by Helen Levitt (exhibition 2021)

One of the best photographic galleries in London. Recently saw the Diado Moriyama exhibition there. The show is over all 5 floors. There is also a good book shop downstairs. There is also a small sized cafe.

Cheap museum in the center of soho, dont expect much actual photographs, id say there are maybe 100 pictures currently in 5 storeys. Maybe different exhibition would have more pictures. You can play with camera obscura. In cafeteria youre not allowed to eat your own food

Great spot for all creative people. Based in heart of Soho, on a narrow street right next to Oxford Street and Marks and Spencer. Somehow quiet and hidden away from all hustle and bustle of the city, so if you're looking for quality coffee and a bit of silence, it's perfect place to go. They also have little shop downstairs and exhibition gallery upstairs, so you can just pop in to see the artworks or buy some books, postcards etc. Industry professionals come over there and place is intimate and cosy, so you can easily spot some famous photographers there. Also it's great for people watching, if that's ones thing, cause lots of interesting individuals cross its doors.

  • 2/5 Adam E. 7 months ago on Google
I loved the collection but the quality of your own merchandise sold in the shop downstairs is below par. I bought your tote bag and after a month of light use the print is already coming off. I wouldn't mind if you were selling it for £4/£5 but £10? I was truly stupid to have bought it. I am posting it here to alert any future buyers -stay away from their merch.

First time I've been to it's "new" location and, although the previous site in Great Newport Street, seemed larger (?), this is still a great space to view works over several floors. Good bookshop (and it sells 35mm film too !) and excellent cafe (the cakes !!). Well worth a visit.

This was the second time I have visited the gallery. Worth your time and you can explore the latest exhibition which was on Japanese Photographer Daido Moriyama. There are four floors to explore with regards to the exhibition and there is a café and shop too. The staff were friendly and helpful too.

This place isn’t free for everyone, but it’s worth the price because it’s got amazing exhibitions of photography! There’s a toilet on every floor (which was a blessing for me at the time) and there’s a nice cafe/shop on the lower levels. Definitely worth a visit.

  • 4/5 Adrian M. 1 year ago on Google
Varied exhibitions more from the art end if the photography spectrum. £5 to visit on the day- take the lift to the top floor and work your way down. Decent cafe and shop. Still wish they had even more space.

Amazing photography gallery right in Oxford circus, 2 steps away from Liberty. Small fee (for London) compared to the quality of exhibitions. 8 pounds on-site or 6.5 online. The coffee place at the entrance is great too for a break from busy Oxford circus.

I've attended an amazing retrospective on Chris Killip. It was well organized with stunning photographs well displayed and having lots of information around. The place is tiny and cosy but handled in a good way. There is a convenient lift, bookshop and cafeteria.

Great to be back at the gallery again post lockdown! A striking exhibition of photos by Sunil Gupta - a retrospective. Highly recommended, it's showing until 24-Jan'2021. Also showing is a moody exhibition of photos by Evgenia Arbugaeva, also highly recommended. From the gallery website: From Here to Eternity is the first major retrospective of UK based photographer, Sunil Gupta (b. 1953, New Delhi India) and offers a complex and layered view of Gupta's unique transcontinental photographic vision. Hyperborea - Stories from the Russian Arctic marks the first major UK exhibition of the award-winning Russian photographer, Evgenia Arbugaeva. Featuring brand new work, this exhibition is the culmination of a long-term project (begun in 2013) focused on the remote land and people of the Russian Arctic

Great place to hang out. Has a cafe with reasonably good coffee depending on who is serving. Gallery entry is free before 12 am I believe. Don't eat the food though!

  • 3/5 STEPHEN H. 3 years ago on Google
It's okay in my opinion the café isn't as good as it used tobe in It's previous incarnation. It's trying to hard tobe something it's not; and the food is not upto the quality of what it is amining to be. As for gallery space, it's obviouslbetter as it has more floors but again it's trying tobe an upmarket elitist gallery of "ART" run by curator's for curators and 'wannabe' curators; and it's shied away from be a photographers gallery and become a photographic artist's gallery For example, (no names mentioned) if an artist uses the photographic medium to capture their art in situ then, displays the print from that documentation of their work as art is it art or is someone having a laugh? You decide...
