This is the worst place to stay ever, I had to stay here because its the only room I was able to afford such last minute, I did not read reviews before I came. No lift, so not suitable for disabled people, my room was a converted cupboard on the 3rd floor and the other rooms all had a separate hallway for their rooms. When I entered my room, I realised I had made a mistake as this door would not shut, the lock had actually broken, so to shut the door you had to slowly but forcefully hold the door shut and then turn the lock. This somehow worked after 10 minutes of trying. Not only this, but after a long day at work I was about to shower and there was no hot water, this also flooded the entire bathroom and continued into the "bedroom" as a lone woman, I didn't want to go down to tell reception this as 1, this was 3 flights of stairs and 2 as there was such an issue with the lock I didn't want the staff knowing I was going to be showering. However judging from the reviews they know the hot water doesn't work. There was no soap in the sink either/no kettle etc. The thing that surprised me, was clean sheets and towels. Especially when the dust was so thick on the floor and the shelf. The bed itself was completely lumpy and somehow wonky, the floorboards were also loose meaning that you tripled over on the screws. I accidentally deleted photos of the actual bedroom, but luckily kept a picture of the lock. Please don't stay here, I have travelled Europe and stayed in hostels, next time I will pay more for a hostel rather than stay here.

I was excited to have even found a hotel in London for the weekend until I walked into Somerset hotel. As soon as I walked in, I didn't feel safe, it smelled like paint, dust, must, it was awful. I sat on the couch while I waited for the gentleman to check me in, as I was waiting, I looked around to the heavy dust sitting around the reception area. Trying to handle the smell. I was hoping that as the time went on, things would get better. Nope. I was shown the stairs to go to my room 423, the carpet was awful. Walked into my room checked it out, bathroom was gross, beds were made, carpet was nasty. I knew I could stay there. I didn't even have another hotel booked...but I just HAD to leave, I couldn't stay there. Please read reviews BEFORE booking hotels. I did pay them for the first night which I really shouldnt have as that place is not suitable for any decent person to stay in.

Absolutely the worst hotel ever I have seen in my life…. The room was disgusting, bed bugs, moldey bathroom it had a black toilet, no hot water. No where to hang clothes no kettle we had 3 single beds when a family suite was requested the beds were broken with no head boards the walls were falling apart the doors had no glass there was chewing gum and dirt all over the stairs the room smelt like someone had urinated on the floor with a bit of gone off cheese. We requested a refund no hotel staff and were told no and then ignored and not answered Yeah the were women renting rooms at an hourly rate it was filthy £100 per night I wouldn’t even let my dog stay there such an terrible experience. Checked out the same night they would not refund my money either I would not recommend anyone in the world to stay at this building I would say hotel but it does not even qualify as a hotel

Filthiest place I've ever been! Woke up next day and I had bed bug bites all over my body. Contacted the hotel but they didn't even care to reply.

I stayed at The Somerset for 2 weeks in May. The staff are absolutely lovely and helpful. The rooms need updating but there are renovations going on in the Hotel, so it will happen over time. Sheets and bedding was clean and the bed was comfortable. If you’re looking for a secure hotel in London they are great. If you’re site seeing and only need a clean place to sleep, the Somerset is perfect. Cheap and Cheerful is what I’d say. Close to Baker St station, good food close by, easy to get into centre of London, very central locations, safe for single travelers

I booked through Hotels.com and apparently they use a service by the name "oyo rooms"- upon arrival,we were greated by a very sympathetic gentleman that explained to us that the hotel no longer works with "oyo" and they would refer us to the correct booking location. Horrible experience to go through, especially after a long flight. The only positive thing I can say is that the staff are very very kind and attentive. Besides that, the room was on a crooked floor, there was black mould in the bathroom, the toilet looked unclean, the walls were paper thin and we had one day without warm water at all. Overall, should have booked a hostel. Could have Had better experience.

First room my boyfriend and I went into the window was broken and wouldn’t shut properly and the bath and shower head had mould room (412) then was moved to room (211) slightly better until the room flooded due to damp and crack on the ceiling… don’t stay here! Not worth your time!

Should not be trading untill everything has been brought up to code. The building is a fire hazard and there are multiple accounts of breaches towards health and safety. Do not stay here, the reviews are proof enough.

Terrible hotel I never experience before. I reserve hotel but because of my schedule change, I try ti cancel or change my booking. HOWEVER EMAIL, PHONE both of them nobody reply and noone get a contact. IF they didn't reply until the last date for full refund, It will be a worst hotel service. There is not a hotel. it is worse than hostel or guest house. I don't know who gave them 'two stars hotel'. I can't give them a star

Despite the reviews posted before by others, I decided to give this one a try. Stayed late December 2022; Very friendly checkin by older gentleman, good humor too. Room was a single bed for me on the second floor, nicely hidden in a corner. Yes, it’s not a large sized room. But it came at a very affordable price for being in the city. It was clean. The bed; clean. Definitely no bedbugs as reported by others. Bathroom; clean and functional. One miniature of shower gel was provided. There was WiFi and a TV, both of which I didn’t use. At the reception, crisps and candy is available for free. Also free coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Comfortable seating area at the entrance. Honestly; this should be my pick again for a future visit to London. I can only recommend based on my very recent experience.

Had another reservation at a weatherspoons but as the underground was shut we wernt walking 3 hours to get there(now we wished we did) as we still had to walk a hour to here. Saw this place and thought amazing. What we saw on their website were big clean bright rooms for a good price £60 for a night. Guy who greeted us was polite. Got in to our fist room. When we first went in to the room we could smell this weird fruit/moss smell. There were marks all over the walls and some red stains on the skirting( hate to think what that is). Dents all over the walls, Duvet was ripped, and had stains on it. The bath pannel was rotten and also chips out the bath. Shower head had grime all over it. Decided to check the bed and there were hairs all over the bed and under the protector. Spoke to staff who were very apologetic and offered another room. Even that room, took one look at the bed with stains and again hair on the mattress and on top of the protector. With a massive stain in the middle. Said to the girlfriend we can't stay here. As neither of us could ever feel comfortable there. We got our money back and left. Got next train home. This hotel unfortunately to say should not be open. At bare minimum cleanliness is a must and how much is a coat of paint. Also there was no kettle no tea coffee not even glasses to have a drink.

This is definitely firmly a 2 star place. The walls of my bedroom were not fully painted and the whole place just felt underloved and a bit dirty. If you're looking for a cheap place to get your head down there are better options on a budget.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Somerset Hotel during my weekend, and I must say that my experience exceeded my expectations in every way. From the moment I stepped into the lobby to the time of my departure, I was consistently impressed by the outstanding service, attention to detail, and overall comfort that this hotel had to offer. The first thing that caught my attention was the warm and welcoming staff. From the front desk to the housekeeping team, everyone was genuinely friendly and eager to assist with any inquiries I had. It's refreshing to encounter a team that takes such pride in their work, making me feel valued as a guest. Cleanliness and organisation were clearly priorities, with a neatly made bed, fresh towels, and all the necessary amenities thoughtfully placed. The well-appointed room offered a peaceful retreat after a day of exploring the city, and the comfortable bed ensured a restful night's sleep. What truly stood out during my stay was the unexpected attention to the finer details. Despite being a simple hotel, they didn't compromise on the quality of their services. The hotel's central location made it incredibly convenient to access nearby attractions and restaurants, adding to the overall value of my stay. While the hotel might not boast extravagant features, it shines brightly with its dedication to providing exceptional customer service and a comfortable environment. It's evident that the hotel management understands the needs of travellers and strives to meet them effectively. The seamless check-in and check-out processes further exemplified their commitment to ensuring a hassle-free experience for guests. In conclusion, my stay at Somerset Hotel was a wonderful experience that left a lasting positive impression. If you're seeking a budget-friendly accommodation option without sacrificing comfort or service, I wholeheartedly recommend the Somerset Hotel. I can confidently say that I'll be returning on my next visit to the area, eager to relive the relaxing and pleasant stay I enjoyed.

No idea why it gets bad reviews. People must expect rizz at hostel prices. The room was clean and pretty big. There is tea and coffee available in the lounge area, and sweets at the entrance. The bed was comfortable, and I had no issues while there. The place is far from perfect, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I'd definitely stay again.

Cute little hotel close to busses and the tube. It's an old building, but the room and bed/sheets were clean. There's tea and coffee in the lobby and the staff was were sweet and helpful. This hotel is on my list for my next visit to London. My son and I both agree on this.

Worth the price. Clean room and toilet. Great location(if u r from LHR airport, consider to use Elizebeth line to Paddington, then, in same station, u can change to Marylebone Station which just 2stops, its a walkable 4mins to the hotel)=total from airport to the hotel less than 1hour. Comfy mattress. Perfect the stay. Free tea and coffee(capsule coffea n super nice).

I booked long before I read the reviews...big mistake! This "hotel" should have a health & safety warning. Dirty, torn carpet on the stairs, unusable reception area and stairwell littered with boxes and baby paraphernalia. Fire doors with gaps where safety glass should have been installed. Dust and grime evident in all areas. A tiny budget room was what it said...budget. The window jammed open and wouldn't budge, slimey soap residue on the bath and a filthy toilet. The one saving grace was clean sheets & towels but no mattress protector...best not to look. It is such a shame that this place is in such a state as it is a brilliant location. Sort it out...

This place is something we call in Germany "Absteige". Lots of wear and tear all around the place and in the room. The room itself was simple but clean. The bath was slightly icky, but still acceptable. The WiFi was surprisingly faultless. Its an OK place if you have to stay in London once overnight, for work or in between travel. Its still a touch too expensive for the quality IMHO. If you want to experience a "victorian style" hotel, which seemingly wasnt renovated for ages, this place is for You.

My sister and I attended an event at Finsbury Park and so this location was perfect and easy to get there with the tube station around the corner. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the facilities are relatively good, they provide coffee pods for the coffee machine there aswell as snacks and tourist information. The room was basic but suitable for our needs and reflected in the price.

Eyaz was absolutely fantastic with sorting out our accomodation in the Somerset hotel. Initially you walk into an indulgent Victorian styled lobby, with an abundance of complementary biscuits and small snacks, and of course, well needed tea and coffee. The rooms are well maintained and couldn’t be faulted. The previous reviews on the Somerset hotel are extremely misleading and bring down the reputation that the hotel has projected towards. Will definitely stay again. Excellent work to the team and especially Eyaz.

Boiling hot rooms, furniture needed updating about 50 years ago. Moldy bathrooms, bad repairwork done here and there. Says it serves breakfast but doesn't. Very kind and helpful staff though.
