They say you only appreciate what you have when it’s gone. The absence plagues my mind. My cold heart yearns for the soft embrace of the warm bubbles. It was love at first sight- and we had a wild affair over the first few months of my gym membership, me and the spa pool. The spa pool had a huge positive impact on my life and mental health. I long for those Sunday afternoons, soaking away my worries. And now, all that remains is an empty hole, like that in my heart. At night I still hear the gentle whisper of the jets and wake in a cold sweat that will never again be warm. Please, please, please bring back the spa pool. My life, my love, my jacuzzi.

Recently joined. Huge array of classes. Good selection of equipment. Staff are mainly brilliant. However huge lack of any “premium” gym service anymore. Towels are grubby. Changing room recently been very dirty in the evening. Spa area (what’s left of it) freezing and cannot be used to relax in, smells due to sitting water. No jacuzzi (to save money) although nothing given back to members. The one relaxation area you pay for £129 a month is gone making this no better than any other cheap gym. Mentioned this to staff who were eating on reception and not really giving a hoot! Not really what you’d call a club atmosphere!

I have used and been a member of many gyms around the city, and after careful deliberation, this is by far my favourite. There are specialist gyms and studios around, which may be better in some areas, but overall this is the best all round. There is a lot of equipment, catering to everyone. The equipment is well maintained, and anything that is broken gets fixed within a day or two. The staff are very friendly and they clean the equipment regularly. The equipment is clean, and there are wetwipe stations all around, so members wipe up after themselves and maintain the cleanliness. The saunas and jacuzzis are a great end to a workout, and the balcony overlooking the Thames is a real touch.

The facilities are amazing by the way, but we went with my partner for a free day to try the gym. Sadly, three people behind the desk and nobody offered a tour, we had to walk around lost and made us feel unwelcome, this ruined the whole experience and the expectation from the place.

BE CAREFUL: Nuffield has just announced it is closing all spa pools in all branches for at least six months to "conserve energy" (and clearly costs). If you're thinking of joining, you should be aware that this facility will not be available and no discount will be offered. A real shame, and very short sighted of Nuffield. Further update: this place is absolutely filthy. I was shocked when visiting on Saturday to see the terrible state it is in. Dirty towels piling up everywhere in the changerooms, bins overflowing, and rubbish everywhere. No longer a premium gym. Poor (or non-existent?) management and a 'can't be bothered" attitude. Save your money and go to Puregym.

They just announced they’re closing all spas over the “winter period” to save costs but no info about how those savings will be passed on to the high membership charges. Towels not always available. Air con is not always on. Equipment is scarce at peak times. Water fountains are filthy and one even leaks on to the gym floor. Shame this gym has so much potential, but for a flagship branch it’s the little details that count - especially if they wish to charge new members £120+ a month.

Really not logical for Nuffield to close its spa and sauna section- this was the selling point of this branch. City people need to relax after busy day at work and I was mostly going there for this feature. Would be coming again

#nuffieldtraveller this is one of the top premium gyms and it def proves it. Nice location not to far from Cannon Street station the customer service is friendly (all these gyms are I’ve never had a bad experience) nice cafe/bar area for health snacks shakes coffees etc gym offers free towels plus the lockers are electronic so you just need a four digit number (very fancy if you can work them with out help lol) The gym itself is very well laid out with studio rooms and weight/cardio rooms on separate floors this gym even has squash courts. I was in a rush so didn’t see the TRX/CrossFit area but the weights room was very well stocked plus at a lunch time session it wasn’t so busy so no fights for the equipment. Locker rooms are clean and laid out well the electronic lockers are great but I needed some help to get it going but then I was fine. The locker sizes feel small to me so had to cram everything in but they have everything in there from hairdryers, shaving areas etc. The showers were nice and clean plus you have two dispensers one for shampoo and the other conditioner (this is partly why you pay more). I did get to see the pool but from talking to people it’s good plus they have a sauna which is in the changing rooms. Five star on this one as it’s got everything you need plus it doesn’t feel to busy which I suppose is a benefit from the bigger membership package. You def get a sense of premium within the gym plus it has a nice look and feel to it as under the station and has cool exposed wall.

A few days ago I wrote a review after some very negative experiences at this Nuffield gym. I complained about the general level of cleanliness, the lack of wipes available to clean the machines and weights before and after use, the temperature in the saunas being far too low and the smell in the pool area. I've been visiting this and various other Nuffield gyms for some time now, and I had the impression that this particular branch used to be first class, but that the overall quality of the gym had deteriorated in recent months. I gave it 2/5 and felt that they weren't really offering a better experience than a budget gym. I've changed my review because after visiting the gym again today, on a Saturday afternoon, I had a very different experience. The gym was clean, there were plenty of wet wipes in the dispensers to clean the equipment, the water in the pool was great, the sauna was running at 85C, the staff were friendly and overall I had a very good experience. What made the difference is that when I visit the gym after work, it is packed with people and I think the staff are struggling to cope with this peak in demand. As a result, areas don't feel clean, dispensers are not restocked, people leave their belongings (and sometimes other items) carelessly behind, all the weight benches and other equipment are blocked and some equipment is not put back properly so you can't find it. It feels overcrowded, maybe Nuffield are having some promotional events at the moment because it hasn't been like this for the last year. All in all, it's a great gym if you can get there outside of the peak hours. I'd give it a 4/5. In the evenings, even after 7pm, it feels overcrowded and chaotic, and if this is the only time you can visit the gym, a budget gym will give you more bang for your buck.

The place is always so hot. Been here for three years and the air con is constantly broken in one or most rooms. Can’t push yourself because you overheat and feel nauseous before getting there. Contract ends tomorrow and I won’t be renewing for summer as it’s truly unbearable. Apart from that nice gym, good facilities, and people are nice enough. Heat ruins it tho...

New member of City Nuffield. The male changing area - filthy/dirty in places; the stale musty smell is very off-putting! Fix it Nuffield ASAP!! The showers: smell of urine/sewage was so strong, if I had a full stomach there would be vomit added to that disgusting aroma! Sauna/steam areas were fine. Swimming pools had not been cleaned in a while! You have a lot of cleaning team members. I am sure they could be trained differently, maybe different cleaning products that leave a more pleasant smell? I have no issues with your cleaning members doing their hair or face in the male changing rooms, but not whilst the place could use a good clean! At one point there must have been 5 or 6 females at the reception desk and no customers. Perhaps you could better use these personnel and put them on cleaning duties? Nuffield, be warned, you have not got long before you sink into oblivion. You have many people with labels on; change the labels, rid the wastage, you can have a spotless gym with proud members happy to write positive reviews, only you need to CHANGE!!

Too busy, jacuzzi used as a social or a bar not a relaxing place with many people shouting. Sauna always overflowing with people. Spa is closed 35 minutes before closing time - a bit extreme if you ask me. Used to be better and more relaxing. Good location, clean enough, otherwise good facilities.

Great location, great spaces. However too many "out of order" signs everywhere, and no apparent urgency to solve the issues. Some of the equipment is in need of maintenance / replacement (cracked pads, faulty hooks etc.) Some of the (young) staff behind the reception desk could do with some customer service training.

No jacuzzi mid winter for one to conserve costs. It’s the best attraction of the gym. Why close it. Nothing passed on to members. No music in the gym making it lifeless. Clips missing so you can’t use half the equipment on the ropes. Mentioned of tree n to staff who are yet to do anything on the matter. Kept in the dark. Told maybe march for a full use gym including jacuzzi. Sauna is cold too. Entire areas smells. Fed up of telling staff and no responses.

Nuffield has only been associated with good things and quality services so when I was looking for a PCR test to travel I was confident when booking at Nuffield Health I was confident and at peace knowing I’d receive a quality service. Even better, the service was advertised as “government-approved Gold Standard PCR”. Although the confirmation email advised me to arrive 5mins early I arrived in the area 40minutes early and decided to walk by to see where I’d be taking my test. I had planned to pop back later but after seeing a queue building I stayed. Despite arriving 40mins early I was seen 20minutes after my appointment time. The testing centre was also understaffed. There was only one staff member registering patients details and taking swabs. By the time I was seen to the queue had built up to 20 people with a severe backlog. I only booked this service because Nuffield have a good reputation. Unfortunately the service I received was well below what I’d expect to receive anywhere.

I have a membership in Shoreditch and today I am made aware for the first time that it does not give you access to all the other gyms. Here in Cannot street they asked to pay 10 pounds to enter the gym—really? Despite I asked if they could do something given the fact that I came all the way. I understand these are policies but this is not the right way to treat members that pay heaps of money to your gyms. NO!

If you like the sort of organisation where the staff bang in the treatment rooms and the personal trainers video women doing excercises before sharing them around the rest of the staff, then this is the place for you! Staff treated appalingly particularly receptionists. Did you know theyre on minimum wage? Not even the living wage. Not very charitable of a company who spends millions on refurbishment. But mainly. Staff bang in the gps rooms all the time. Enjoy being ripped off!

The equipment is great quality with a good variety, plenty of benches and free weights. I would give it 5* but the aircon barely ever works in the main free weight room.

The sales staff haven’t got a clue, quoted £20 a month for a locker and then 20 minutes later it was £15 a month but both sales staff told me prices are fixed. Clearly not. Imagine charging money for a locker and saying if you leave any of your gym gear over night it’ll be thrown away. Clearly no interest in signing up new members, sales staff need a course in sales…

Says gym is open until 10pm on website but when arrived they said they know it's wrong on the website and its 6pm they close. Frustrating as I travelled into the city to have a session. Also booked in squash for a friend 24 hours prior and was told that the person jar not been book in despite an email exchange as evidence. It's a shame as everything else is great.

Joined in the summer with an annual commitment, for a price around 1/3 less than a comparable Virgin Active, and very pleased with it. As the other reviews identify the building and facilities are excellent - atmospheric huge brick arches, really airy. The cleanliness and uncrowded feel are perfect for me. It is kept very clean. Whether you are wanting to spend half an hour on the squat rack or you are doing some rehab/physio the equipment and space will be here. The classes (there are many Les Mills classes plus a range of classes in their superb spin studio) are varied and the instructors and staff are approachable and friendly. The only thing I can think of that could be better is the lacklustre café at the entrance which is often shut and could be doing a roaring trade in shakes and salads.

Overpriced gym selling the dream of exclusivity when it's all a bunch of lies. The constant smell of sewer is something you need to get used to if you are to join this gym.Very difficult to cancel the contract and misleading and unhelpful staff. I have recently joined Virgin Active for a slight higher price and the difference is insane. It's a no-brainer if you ask me.

The showers need a good deep clean, in saying that I've not seen cleaners cleaning the place. Also the towels are so oooooo old they look like they came from 1983, they will exfoliate you, while drying yourself, staff could do with some smiles and joy, the hair dyers, half of them work and the other don't the cables are all tangled so you can't use them properly, there are gyms for £20 in the area and are cleaner and friendly. Im over looking of this as this is the closest gym for me. Not impressed at all, the place in general could do with a good deep clean. And happy people.

I was admitted for a urology procedure. Staff were very friendly, answered all my questions. The nurse in surgery were very kind (I was very nervous) and calmed me down. I had to do some prompting for certain things that's whg I'm not eating 5*. Overall very pleasant experience.

After a very bumpy start at this gym I can now say I am really enjoying my experience here. The staff are great and very welcoming. The classed are great and just the right time for lunch. Amazing classes with a variety of choice. Love the swimming pool and spa areas... I feel pampered every lunchtime! :)

Nice gym to work out in, only really busy during lunch and the evenings 5-7, the staff are great and really helpful. They really motivate you to get fitter! Only downside of this gym is the shower facilities, not always the cleanest and the shower gel/hair wash is really cheap and nasty, not what you expect when Nuffield are charging up to £120 for gym membership.

I have been a member here for over 5 years and last 1-2 years it is getting worse and worse: 1. They keep putting cover instructors without letting members know. You think you are going for a class with your favourite instructor, but no, someone else is covering. Even worse - many times cover teachers are really mediocre, total waste of time. And reception team has no idea who is teaching as there is no system to track that. 2. The new booking system is a joke. Many times I simply can’t unreserve myself from the class due to the system failure. Seems like the gym needs a massive IT overhaul. 3. Good instructors keep leaving and being replaced by average ones. It’s meant to be a premium gym, flagship of Nuffield Health, but such poor attitude to its members is really appaling.

Nice equipment, nice staff, awful towels and soap. I used to be a member here a few years ago, moved to Virgin because of a new office and then came back for the same reason. Ok they are a little cheaper then a tier one Virgin but why do the towels and shampoo have to be so grim? I asked when I joined and was told if I wanted fluffy towels pay more and go to virgin but these things are like a tiny piece of sand paper. For a flagship gym they could make it slightly better with a few touches but now they have upgraded all the equipment it’s about right for the money.

Member for four weeks. Been swimming every morning and have lost a stone in weight, pool is nice, all the staff are nice. Sounds good right. However theft of belongings seems to be an issue here, and without any CCTV or any measures in place at all that discourage thieves it will continue to be a problem. And what’s worse is that the barriers that allow only members with a card to enter have not been working for at least 2 weeks so anyone can just walk in. I would like to imagine that this is a high priority call out that should be dealt with in a reasonable time. Solution: CCTV at the entrance and in corridors. Lockers that do not automatically open (change locks to keys). A clear theft policy that states consequences. Maybe have a locker area in the corridor or entrance that is for high-value items only, a small 15cm by 15cm locker for phones, watches, headphones, money etc that never opens unless you use your code or a manager (and a manger only!) uses a master code. Update: Staff (Hannah) have been very helpful and offered to put valuables in their safe behind reception. Also Hannah has said she will look into getting me a locker with a key.

Came for a trial today. The river view terrace -spa-balcony- box is a unique experience - nothing like relaxing on lux loungers over the river, with floor to ceiling views of the shard, globe and Southwark, hearing the water and seeing the boats go past. The pools were clean and quiet. Super clean and beautifully designed space overall. There are three saunas and a steam room and huge jacuzzi. Squash courts as well. Lots of space and great equipment. I get a gym membership with my members club but was super impressed with this place - it’s just a little far from home and work to go for membership

I have been a Nuffield Gym member for 6 months with Personal Trainer paying £277 per month. I wanted to cancel the membership and confirm with the Gym personal trainer. I asked for the Cancellation on the 31st to Gym PT and he said it was too early then I reminded him multiple times; I canceled direct debit on the 1st Dec and I informed him and he said it was okay. He already canceled PT sessions but for membership, he suggested I should cancel before the 15th of the Month which I did. I canceled my membership on 10th Dec. Now called Customer Service calling me and telling me that it's not before the 15th but one month advance notice is required so they want me to charge for January too!! The way the lady named MIA on call was talking to me was very rude; wasn't listening at all and kept saying I have to pay for January!! I sent them an email with the screenshot of WhatsApp that I confirmed with my PT. She said those screenshots could be anything instead of confirming with my PT; I gave his name too!! If they are not in sync with their Gym staff; we have to go through the pain!!! My PT agreed that he did not know there was a one-month notice required and hence, I was misinformed but the general manager of the Gym didn't agree and I had to pay an extra month despite following the instructions from the person I should been trusting as I was working with him every day.

Love the swimming pools here and the relaxation spa facilities. Also enjoy the yoga sessions here yet to use gym equipment and try other classes. Staff were helpful and more than happy to guide me around at the drop of a hat. Brilliant place to exercise and chill a bit. Female changing rooms are a maze but good to have plenty of space to get changed without being crammed in areas. Unfortunately the only down side for me thus far is the scent they chose for shower gel and conditioner (reminds me of childhood medicine or the hand wash I have at work), prefer the gel and conditioner in Islington and Covent Garden branches, also the Chelmsford branch shower gel.

Really poor air conditioning, except for in the small cardio zone. The treadmills are in fairly poor condition - the belts are very worn and can be slippery. The floor is not stable enough to support the equipment in the cardio zone, so the treadmills shake when in use. Generally the gym is very crowded. Shower and changing facilities are pretty average. I've been a member of Bannatynes, Virgin and Nuffield in the City and would say this is the worst of the three.

I've being going for over 10years so as you imagine the 1 star reviews are not accurate. I love the arched roof which gives this gym a unique feel, especially if your in the pool. I use the 1-2-1 instructor service, I can recommend Sian. The Pilate class is quite intense, I haven't done other classes so I cannot say if the good or not. Last word I remember my last company having a lot of Aussies and one of them wanted a gym I sent him hear and his feed back was it was one of the best he had been too.

The facilities and classes are great but the women's showers and toilets smell horrendous and there is hair all over the showers, the shampoo and conditioner quality is very poor, the changing rooms in general smell pretty bad (& I don't have a good sense of smell). I generally think the showers, changing facilities and changing room hygiene are pretty poor. NB edited 11/10/17: Actually, on the classes although the workouts and the instructors are great I absolutely cannot stand the standardised classes with the same music track every lesson (e.g. RPM, BodyStep, etc.) because listen to the SAME thing drives me absolutely bonkers. I can only really make RPM and a few other limited classes in the morning and having to listen to the same tracks -every single day- drives me insane. I don't want to turn up to RPM anymore because I don't want to hear those flipping tracks again. I just can't do it.

This used to be Cannons Premier health club, with 2 swimming pools, squash courts 2 gyms and much more, but since Nuffield Health took it over they have been plugging their private health services. Which makes its claims of being a charity a bit of a joke, when it's the equivalent of John Lewis in health clubs terms. The YMCA is also a charity but don't charge £130 a month membership . Otherwise it's an excellent club, although the Moorgate club is nicer.

The sales person told me I could always end the membership if I changed jobs, be aware of their retarded 5 miles rule, so if you change address/work they will suggest you a gym in a location you have no business being in. The worst deal in my life.

Fabulous gym, endless quality equipment, plus the pool and the spa area is a real treat. The building is a converted station so all the brick arches make it a very cool setting, even if it is a bit of a maze! Lana was very friendly and great for showing me around on my first visit. Highly recommend.

Have been a member for over a year now have had only good times to date, very grateful that you made the effort to stay open as much as possible throughout pandemic. Friendly staff - everyone is well mannered, which is always a pleasure and for me part of my relaxing spa day. keep up the good work. (Don't neglect build either, renovations wise)

Not too bad. I used to be a member of Virgin. It is cheaper here than Virgin. And I like the city one better because of better facilities. I just wish they open a bit later on weekends even until 7 would be a lot appreciated.

Yesterday I visited for the first time. They have the best sauna rooms (two) and best steam room. Three pools, at least one squash court and a few gym floors. One of my favorite NH gyms.

I’ve been a member for a week, visited a couple (4+) times already. I’d say this is the best Nuffield by far, and one of the best premium gyms in London, and I’ve been to many brands. This easily competes with the ultra-luxury gyms, such as Third Space. I’d also ignore the negative reviews and see for yourself, this place has a huge amount to offer. Pros: • World-class selection of facilities, I especially love the spa area with a huge heated jacuzzi, and a cool-off area looking over the themes, and plenty of gym areas plus heated swimming pool • Staff friendly and always helpful, lots of freebies when signing-up as a new member • All the little free extras, adding up to a big plus: the ironing boards, body lotion, swimwear driers, key code lockers, free towels, etc. Cons: • For me, the only con is I wish there was a bit of extra space for remote working. The cafe area is open to the public so can get crowed, and they should really have a members private work area, like the Barbican one has - I’m sure there is space to fit this in somewhere Overall, a very premium gym, superb experience and I can’t wait to be a long-term member.

This gym is awesome! The facilities are huge, they literally offer everything! The only feedback is that the changing rooms could do with a little bit of a refurbishment. There is black mould in the showers and the benches look worn, but on the whole, given the size of the facilities, the team are doing an amazing job of keeping this gym clean and tidy.

Went a while back when it had the refurb, and it was the best gym in London, exceeding third space and virgin. They had the Jacuzzi chairs, not sure if they still have them, but with squash courts and spa facilities, this place is top-notch. Unfortunately, it's too pricey for me, and not having work subsidise the cost, I go to a branch that's a tier below, but I do yearn for the experience in such a place, and the squash courts are reducing in the city.

I visited here for a trial today (16/07/19). I went around 6pm. Firstly the decor is great - exposed brick gives it a tougher feel. It can be busy during peak times but let’s be honest every gym is. The equipment is top of the range. There’s loads of bench’s for free weights and benches for incline flat and decline bench press. I counted 4 power racks and a variety of machine / cables. Definitely well equipped. The spa area is really nice - there is a swimming pool but it’s only 16m - again not bad. Definitely worth signing up if you have some sort of corporate discount. Staff are really friendly - Elina gave a great tour and is knowledgeable.

Good, well featured gym, team is friendly and helpful. They have a sled too :) It does get crazy busy at times though = hard to get a squat rack :( Plus please get some sandbags!

Kolade is an amazing physiotherapist, provided me great advice and is incredibly professional. His understanding of ligaments, bones and muscle is adept to the point were he can simplify something so complex to someone like myself who lacks understanding of such matters. HIghly recommended

Been going here for years now and I’m very satisfied with how many classes they have, the number of machines and the spa area.

Mostly good but at reasonable capacity 4 squat/deadlift racks is no where near enough plus the leg extension machine is not fit for purpose

The best gym i have ever been to. The swimming and spa facilities are incredible. Also plenty of room for those who also enjoy to do weights and use a treadmill

Amazing gym overall, great spa facilities, amazingly friendly staff. One potential improvement though, could definitely be regarding the swimming pool temperature. As a competitive swimmer that has swum in many pools throughout the years, I found it to be one of the coldest yet. I could still feel the cold in my bones, the next morning - definitely a first for me. In fairness, this can arguably be a personal preference, or it may also be that something was broken with the heating system that day (there was a bit of hot water starting to come in towards the end of my practice, so who knows). It’s just that given how great everything else was, this was so unexpected that it really felt like a bit of a shame. Not a deal breaker per say, but maybe something to keep in mind? 😊

One of the best gyms I've been to - it's large and well-equipped, and even at the busiest times doesn't feel overcrowded. The spa area is fantastic, too.

Went as a first time visit as member of another Nuffield club. Fantastic gym and staff especially Anushka who showed us how to train and stretch and was very helpfully.

Good facilities, friendly staff and the famous spa makes the price worth it. I had to cancel my subscription though because the gym was unusable at 6pm when I finished work (only time I could go). It really does get busy, especially if you use weight machines or use free weights. To the point where I had to walk in and walk out 5 mins later every week day before giving up entirely and finding a gym I could actually exercise at during peak hours.
