I've always been a fan of Wahaca. I have lived in Mexico for a few years and no one in the UK quite matches the food like this place. The restaurant at Waterloo has such a cute vibe and the waiting staff are absolutely lovely. They have the best adaptations of Mexican food to suit our vegetarian needs and I had a great birthday especially because the waiting staff came to the table singing to me and giving me free churros with a candle in it. This place is above and beyond. Their plantain tacos are delicious and they serve Pacifico Clara beer which tastes like sunshine - what's not to love?

The night started really badly as my party got delayed on the train and arrived 13 minutes late for dinner. The table has been given away to another party, and the manager personally called my name to tell me off for not calling the restaurant to say I was late (there is no number on the reservation email, by the time I found the branch's number we were around the corner). When he called my name, I thought he would wish 'Happy Birthday' as I was there to celebrate with friends. So disappointing! However, the waiter really turned things around. She was really quick, attentive, and friendly. Food came quickly and was delicious ( I really recommended the fetta and sweet potato Platito), and the drinks also came quickly. There was always water at the table. Good Friday night out, after a bad start.

Enjoy a simple dinner here with the family. Really good Mexican food. Will certainly return!

The food over the years at Wahaca has continued to go downhill over the years and it continues this trend at this branch with there being very little chicken in the tacos! With it being really expensive for what it is The margaritas are good but expensive for what they are The staff then failed to deal with the bills and continued to spend 10 minutes trying to figure it out between 3 of them asking for more money originally by about £20 which honestly I wish we had removed the service charge after this At least the theming of the venue was nice 😊

Wahaca was always one of our regulars (at Canary Wharf) before Covid. Haven’t been there for a while - since 2019. We ordered a takeaway for delivery - menu has changed quite a bit since we last ate there - But we weren’t disappointed. Each dish was lovely. Highlights were the plantain & feta taco’s and chocolate pecan brownie with dulce de leche (Pork & Chicken taco’s were great too). The only thing they could improve is to offer sour cream on the side and extra sauces. Still one of our favourites though! Also appreciate the bio-degradable sugar cane fibre packaging.

Super tasty good at this exceptionally busy location. By 17.45 there was already a queue up the staircase which is a positive sign, but it moved fast. Food was super tasty and just what I expected. A great location too and friendly staff which always helps!

Great food and good atmosphere. Extremely helpful service. Frankly the best gluten-free options I have ever seen. They have an entire special menu for gluten-free, which is great. Our server understood the issue well. Love Wahaca.

Great place for Mexican fare. I visited with a friend on a Friday night and we had a good time. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lively. I highly recommend booking a table ahead of time as it was busy on a Friday night and there was a small wait for a table from 18:45 onwards. I recommend ordering 5 small plates (for 2 people) and I can vouch for the buttermilk fried chicken and the sustainable fish tacos - as delicious as they looked mouth-watering. The Margarita pie (new on the menu) was beautiful too - light and refreshing. Service was friendly and the food was great. I have no qualms at all. Recommended.

Really lovely ambience, good service, the food came our relatively quickly and was very tasty, we got the Favourites sharing platter and the lamb birria tacos, all of which tasted great and came out hot. I'd be happy to visit again soon.

Ordered on the app for pick-up, but very kind server and service. I ordered on the bus in a hurry on the Wahaca App for pick-up, thinking i would eat on a bench outside the restaurant, but the server was very kind and set up a table for me to eat my order near front reception even though the restaurant was very full. They offered me drinks and extras, and went above and beyond. Was very unexpected and deserves a 10 STAR review. Very impressed with app and efficiency. Thanks team Wahaca!

The atmosphere is very lively and the staff are friendly. I ordered a chicken enchilada which was nice. We had a slight issue with one of our food orders. We ordered a vegan dish but they put regular cheese on. The staff did apologise and we were given a free dessert.

Visit from April 2022... We revisited this branch as we had a gift card, the waiter remembered us from last time when we mentioned about our allergies. The waiter was really nice but I felt sorry for him as everyone was asking him to take their orders and he was the only staff member present on the floor. The food was very enjoyable, we ordered 2 Chicken Quasadilla, 2 Mushroom Quasadillas, 2 Sweet Potato portions and Califlower Wings. We were able to ask for our mayo to be out of our meals and on the sides instead which was great as we could are it as we wished. It took a long long time to ask for a dessert afterwards, we had to keep trying to get the attention of someone to serve us which took around 20-30 minutes. At the end we were trying to scan the QR code (like my previous review below the QR code does not work! We tried on three different devices and over three different tables QR!) The receipt shows a surcharge which you can ask for it to be taken off, it would be great for the QR code to work as then you feel like you can take it off if you felt like it wasn't an enjoyable experience, we took the gift card to the till and it took around 30 minutes to sort out! Ridiculous. The staff member was apologetic but it caused us to miss out train, it should be much easier to use a gift card. Think that's the last time we will visit here as the ending has become too stressful. Visit from Feb 2022 ... First time visiting a Wahaca Branch. Staff were very friendly and they asked regarding allergies which is very important. Lots of Vegetarian options which is brilliant, we ordered the Mushroom Club, Chicken Club, Patatas Bravas and a Halloumi and Pineapple Taco which was free. The Freebie was very very cold, it felt like because it was free they didn't care how it was presented? The Patatas Bravas were luke warm. The rest of the food was really nice especially the Mushroom Club which I would have again. We were going to order two lots of Patatas Bravas but we're adviced just to buy one because of the size.... We wish we had bought two lots as there wasn't enough to share one portion. Ordered through person but had to pay through QR code which didn't work, so waiter had to do it on their phone which made us feel uncomfortable and stupid... Personally either order through an app and pay at the time or just order through a person and pay through a person, don't do a mixture. Restaurant was clean and toilets were nice and clean which I always check. Knocked a star off for the cold/Luke warm portions of our meal and also the QR system not working correctly (Side Note: I have paid via QR codes before so know how they work so I am experienced with them) so think many people will struggle to pay like this.

Great service and food. I’d eaten at Wahaca previously, and came with two friends. Our waiter Cris was really helpful and attentive, especially to my food allergies, and it was made clear what was nut free and gluten free - they have plenty of vegetarian and vegan options too. Will definitely go back, and would totally recommend.

Before I begin, please note I'm not a chef or a trained cook. Strengths: aesthetics & environment looked good, clean, & vibrant. The "paying online at table" is a plus. The cheese chili balls were good too. The service was good. I was checked on by 3 different persons. Areas of improvement: I ordered the grilled chicken burrito ultimate. It looked good, but the tortilla was cold. I get the "street food" theme, but even street vendors keep the tortillas warm. The burrito filling had a "cajun blackened" pepper texture & taste. No other flavors really came through. The peppers were a mixture, gritty & heavy. The recipe & construction needs work. My other concern was the seating & spacing during a Covid-19 time. It felt crowded. Several groups.

I have visited Wahaca a few times, and I have always had a great experience there. They have an excellent selection of items on their menu, and the staff are both friendly and attentive. My favourite dishes are the sweet potato and feta taquitos, the crispy cauliflower bites, and the buttermilk fried chicken tacos.

Very plant-based friendly. We had the vegan set menu and it was very nice. Plenty of food and very flavoursome. The plant-based chicken and avocado tacos were my favourite. My friend liked the plantain tacos. Cris was our waiter and he was very attentive. Will definitely come back.

Tasty food, reasonable prices, friendly staff. Only let down is it's very noisy in there when it's busy so you have to shout at each other when talking. Not sure what could be done about that though. We had a selection of dishes to share between two people: Beef Gringa Tacos, Pork Pibil Tacos, Cheese & Jalapeno Empanadas (from the daily specials), Alliloli Mushroom Quesadillas, Sweet Potato & Feta Taquito. Our favourites were the Beef Gringa Tacos and the Empanadas. Then we had a portion of Churros to share for dessert. They tasted good but they were very thin and not enough cinnamon/sugar on them.

Very good foods. Very quiet. Staff forgot our order and we had to remind a couple of times.

I went here on a Friday night and was shocked that last orders were being taken at 10pm instead of the normal 1030pm, and we were asked to leave by 1045pm while staff started to drink beers at a nearby table. Food and service were decent, but the sheer lack of professionalism at the end of the night has tainted my otherwise favourable impression of this chain.

We were going to the Old Vic so popped in here for a meal beforehand. Incredibly quick - we were in and out in 40 mins!! Noisy and very close to other customers as it was so full. You pay by the code on the table so no asking for the bill. We chose 4 smaller plates to share beef gringa, chicken quesadillas, cauliflower bites and sweet potato and feta taquito with a beer and smoothie. Very tasty but quite rich . Approx £45

To start we had to wait ages for the food when we asked what was going on the food arrived at least half of it and was cold we had to ask for the other half and clearly see that was confusions going on. Eventually we received the other half of the order and was the wrong food we didn’t say anything because we were starving. I decided to ask for the bill as we wanted to go somewhere else to eat that came within seconds. Very expensive place with no atmosphere the staff are inexperienced with no knowledge of customer service. Definitely not a place to go back plenty of other places in London that would love to take my money.

Right opposite the station, the tasty food will satisfy but the service is a bit lacking. The Wagamamas of Mexican food. The entrance is quite dramatic, a wall of the ends of railway sleepers, some multi-coloured string and then mirrors to make it feel more dramatic and open. It definitely distracts you from the fact you’re basically going into a basement. Even for a Monday night, it was busy. Some empty tables but it seems advisable to book for any other night. As you sit down the multiple QR code stickers on the table to pay the bill makes it clear this is “get in, pay, get out”. There seemed to be enough staff but getting their attention to order was tricky. Paper menus had orders circled and some dishes were audibly “plonked” on the table, almost without breaking step on the way to another table. The food was delicious. You know it isn’t the most authentic, in the way pizza from a chain isn’t really Italian, but it has a good amount of spice and flavour. The Mexican nachos were the perfect sharing starter. The mains were hearty, looked great and appetising. You have to ask for salt if you’re an addict but it came promptly and without fuss. You can either go for big dishes or a more tapas-like 2-3 dishes per person. Dessert churros were a bit small but coffee was good. Pair this a Michelob beer or their many others and you’ll be away. I’ve no idea why they have an option to make beer ‘spicy’ or add salt - it’s not a margarita. There were plenty of other options and a small flight of Tequila. Menu-wise they do have an alarmingly-named Gluten (as in ‘Free’) and Vegan menu. They’re cut down versions of the main menu but add nuances showing they understand not everyone has the same level of intolerance. It’s appreciated. The decor in the basement did have a bit of “we went to the art college” with metal frames and yellow cord that was either “cool” or “cage” depending on your perspective. They have stripped it back a bit too much though and seemingly forgotten that bare concrete and low ceilings make it very loud. Nice for a meal with mates, not quite date level.

No one on meet & greet and when we were seated there was no one to serve us because all staff had to be in a meeting even though we said we were in a rush. It’s a shame because other Wahacq restaurants have provided great service. Additionally, when ordering the waiter didn’t have anything positive to say about the menu and put us off from ordering food.

Great Mexican street food restaurant near Waterloo. Pork pibil is the best of all tacos. You must book it if you are going there for early dinner as they save all the restaurant for the theatre goers (Old Vic and Young Vic are nearby)… so you can either walk in very early 5:45pm or later 8:30pm, otherwise only with reservation.

We were travelling around Europe from Australia. We stopped into Wahaca as I wanted to have a nice birthday dinner. We approached the front desk and the manager was nice advising that as we didn’t have a reservation we needed to wait for a table but could sit at the bar and have a drink. We did so and within 10 mins were given a table. We were served by Cris who was very efficient, quick, lovely and patient with us as we took our time ordering. The food that arrived was amazing and we both loved our choices. Will defs visit again when we come back to London. Thank you to the staff for accomodating us without a reservation it made my night easier.

Fish tacos had chunky fish. Fresh salsa and tasty pork pil pil. Recommended special potatoes with corn under whelming though and quite cold.

The food was quite tasty and authentic. The drinks were also strong, yet good. The food came out quickly, fresh and hot. The best part of the night were the churros. We preferred the dulce de leche sauce. Would go back again.

Always a great meal at Wahaca a Waterloo is no exception, evidence by how popular it is so make sure to book early! A very relaxed venue with food that arrives as it is ready, a good vibe in the dining area and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend.
