The oldest Assay Office in the UK - Goldsmiths have been assessing and stamping precious metals for 700 years! Here are a few photos from the interior. The Vulliamy longcase clock is enormous. The sculpture is King Edward III, who established the maker’s mark in 1363. But it was Henry III in 1238 who made the earliest attempt at regulating the standard of gold and silver wares. Fraud has been happening since time immemorial!

I've been here before to see a jewelry exhibition. This time I was attending a meeting. I really enjoy visiting the City of London Trade and Craft Guild Halls. This establishment has been in existence since 1327. It stands amongst modern steel and glass buildings. You just have to be inside to see the wooden panelled walls. How did they manage to create those beautiful ceilings, and why? Some buildings just stand the test of time. Genius!

The office is majestic looking and well worth a visit if only to see the decor itself, even the bathrooms look beautiful! I had been to the Goldsmith's Company for a seminar and the staff were very helpful and we were well looked after by the staff. If you're a jewellery designer looking to get your pieces hallmarked, the London Goldsmith's Company Assay Office staff are very helpful and informative and are happy to answer any questions you might have, big or small.

I went here for a little organized tour which I had booked two years previously. It was cancelled because of covid restrictions. The building is only open to the public infrequently, so if you see visits advertised, book a place immediately. It is beautiful, and very interesting. The person taking the tour is very knowledgeable about the place and its history. Well worth an hour or so.

Fantastic building. I was there for an event. Not sure if it's open to the public but if you get the chance do visit.

The building inside is opulent and stunning. Remember to look up at the ceilings. I presume however that this site refers to Goldsmiths Hall near to St. Paul's off of Gresham St. A wonderful area to visit. Just remember to look around you and UP.

I ran into this by chance after visiting the Bank of England and we were hesitant to enter given how posh it was. The building was filled with ornate decorations highly befitting of its contents and we explored the exhibition in wonder. The pieces on display were extremely extravagant and representative of a life quite unlike mine, so have a look if you're keen on what's happening way up in society!

Goldsmiths’ Hall is my favourite Livery Company Hall in London. There are only a couple of events per year. Few of them are open to the public, but The Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design 2022/23 Awards Ceremony is invitations only. As a judge for the Horners Jewellery Award I am invited to join. If you wish to visit it, you must make an appointment. Contact me if you would like to

This place is stunning! A true piece of English heritage and the home of the British Hallmark for gold. It is definitely worth a visit if you get the opportunity, but check if access is available before you go. Parking is available nearby (about 400 metres to NCP) and is reasonably priced (for London).
