In the shadow of St Paul’s Cathedral stands a dramatic monument; depicting in bronze three firefighters in action at the height of the Blitz of WWII, when London was bombed by the Luftwaffe on 57 consecutive nights. Originally the names of all firefighters across the UK who died in WWII were inscribed upon it but, after the monument was moved to its current location, the names of all those killed in peacetime were added. Nowadays it is illuminated at nighttime in red, representing the towering flames these brave guys were fighting. A fitting tribute to those who should be remembered.

I love this memorial. It really captures the true heroism in the spirit of these firefighters. The way they risked their lives to save others. The memorial really makes you feel like you are there at the Blitz fire which took place in 1940. The 'Second Great Fire of London' is another name used at the time to refer to one of the most destructive air raids ofΒ the Blitz, over the night of 29 to 30 December 1940.

A national memorial ( (4.05.1991) John B.Miils) consisting of their three bronze statue and dedicated not only firefighters, but also those men and women, who bravely fought πŸ”₯ fire on the street of London during Second World War. In 1998,it was decided to add the names of firefighters, who died in peacetime, a second ceremony took place on 09.16.2003. There are about 1992 names on it. Every year on Sunday, close to September 7,a memorial service is held at the memorial πŸ™πŸ”₯πŸ™

This is a very nice sculpture by John W Mills. It is dedicated to all the valiant fire fighters who did such a good job during the Blitz, WWII. It was originally unveiled in 1991 by the Queen Mother. During the late 1990's it was decided that this monument would represent all the fire fighters throughout the UK. It was re-dedicated by the Princess Royal in 2003. She is patron of the Firefighters' Memorial Charitable Trust. Each year on September 7th a remembrance service is held there as that was the official date for the start of the Blitz. Very nice sculpture.

Made me think of my father, who served in the London Fire Brigade. Important part of the history of London.

A moving tribute to those men and women who fought fire on the streets of London during the Blitz of World War II, when the city was struck by bombs on 57 consecutive nights in a sustained campaign of bombing. It also served as a monument to commemorate the service of firefighters throughout the war.

Us old folk, born just after WW2, were bought up on tales of the Blitz, and heroism of the firemen. This statue is a fitting and long lasting memorial. Future generations need to learn of their deeds

The National Firefighters Memorial is a memorial composed of three bronze firefighters in action during the Blitz, in Second World War. So you might be mistaken in thinking that the memorial is only to firefighters of the war. In fact, the memorial is for all firefighters throughout the United Kingdom who were killed in the line of duty. The statue is a little uninspiring, but I admire the sentiments.
