So after a 3 month commitment, 4 payments (you have to make to get a membership here) you are met with a spa that doesn't fix its facilities, broken down showers not fixed for months, decent changing rooms, shallow pool, a jacuzzi that turns on and off every 3 minutes, and constant closing of the steam and sauna rooms for days upon end. I would say the gym and classes are quite nice, but if you're looking for a spa experience, you're probably best off looking somewhere else.

I was gifted a spa day at Bannatyne and I can tell you I wish they had saved the money me and my mother arrived and had to pay to hire a robe and slippers. We each had a massage and mini facial which was alright but we then had to walk through the canteen back through the changing room and showers to reach what we thought was spa facilities,we were wrong it was a public swimming pool where an aqua aerobic lesson was going on(extremely loud) a tiny hot tub gull of people who had been in the gym and pool and a tiny sauna and steam room again in a corner next to the pool. Not in the slightest bit relaxing or private at all I would not recommend wasting the money. Staff seem nice but it really is not a spa it is a gym.

Very let down by the facilities. We booked a spa day via Spa Breaks and the spa treatment itself was lovely! However, the rest of the day was not worth the money. The toilets and changing facilities were awful. The pool was ridiculously busy, and children with water guns meant that when you tried to relax you actually got squirted. No life guard present, which is surely against the rules. 15 people at one point in the jacuzzi. There was a queue to access the sauna. The steam room was out of order. People were jumping in the pool into the swimming lanes interrupting swimmers. It was chaos and unsafe. Not relaxing and will never recommend.

I have a membership here and so far I am loving it. Firstly, the health club has free parking so you don't have to worry about how long you're parked for. I usually use the wetside facilities and they're great - swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam. There are some loungers to relax on too. Loads of lockers available and also a swimsuit dryer which is very handy. The changing rooms are massive, lots of space to get ready in and shower in. I've also had a deep tissue back massage done at the spa here and that was great, the therapist did a good job and she was also very friendly, and you get 50% your first treatment if you're a member which was nice! They also serve food and drinks here and so far I've been really impressed, it's such a good price for the amount and quality of food that you get. My sister and I had lunch here after our swim session and we look forward to having some breakfast too. Overall I'm so happy and I look forward to coming here :)

👎👎👎 polite but incompetent staff. Some of the shower stalls have broken locks, shampoo shelves, hangers, etc, and have not been repaired for months. water switches in the shower are broken, water has been leaking from the pipes for months. Cloudy water in the pool. The employees do not explain the terms of the contract properly, then all the costs are charged to the gym goers. Of all the London gyms I've been to, the one that doesn't live up to its claims is Bannatyne. The door to the sauna has not been completely closed for several months now, and this problem has not been fixed either. Employees do not allow the use of smart scales, explaining that the scales do not work. I don’t advise anyone to waste their nerves and spoil their mood, it’s easier to sign up for another gym.

I am no SPA expert but I have been in few spa's over the years and this place has disappointed me the most. Me and my husband booked this spa for our anniversary. As we arrived we were told that we have to pay extra if we want to have a towel and a robe. We felt a bit ambushed as nowhere in our booking did it say that we would have to pay extra for such a basic thing that is always included in Spa's. If you were hoping for a relaxing/romantic spa experience this is definitely NOT IT. The relaxation room was cold, thankfully the seats were heated. The hydration station was just a sink with a tap.... no glasses provided. When we were called in for our massage the room was cold. We got a couples massage and the masseuse of my husband asked him all the standard questions while mine didn't. Which was a bit odd. I couldn't really relax as I was very cold. I had to ask the masseuse to put the heating on. She put extra towels on me and that helped. It's standard practice to use warm oil for massage. Their oil was cold. In the spa package the sauna and other facilities are included. Unfortunately all of them are open to the public (children included) and you have to cross the reception in your robe to get to them. So forget about a relaxing experience. Overall I really DON'T RECOMMEND it! We ended up leaving straight after our massage and showered at home. The only positive thing I can say is that the staff were nice.

Very poor gym, avoid joining at all cost. This is a gym where the cable machines have been broken for months, lift broken for months. Spa facilities full of fungus

My friend and I loved the massage treatment. The ladies were very friendly and made us feel very comfortable. But, in the package we had the option to use the sauna or Jacuzzi, shame that neither of them were working. The only service available was the steam room which we had to share it with men. Felt very uneasy and we stayed for only 5 minutes. Ww wanted to use the pool but the water look quite dirty. Not a nice way to end a spa treatment which cost us nearly £100 each. I will definitely not go back.

I wish I could put 0 stars. My mother's birthday was on September 12th, so I wanted to surprise her with a relaxing spa experience! I regret to say that it was the worst spa visit I've ever had. My cousin has special needs, so I called the spa the day before to make adjustments and ask if he could come in for his treatment as well. I described his condition in detail, mentioning that he has learning disabilities, limited mobility, and excessive drooling, and was told the person at the reception would check with his manager. When he returns to the line, he says that the manager gave her OK and that he is more than welcome to come in whenever I want to bring him in. I then made plans to take him spa the following day (12th). I attempted to call back to let them know he would be arriving, but unfortunately the line was too busy for them to answer. But because I had been assured that everything was well, we were eager to go the next day. When we arrived there, it was completely different story, we was told that he can’t have his different due to his conditions, so they discriminated him! The manager called Chantal Watson was rude and unprofessional said that “she was told that the person with special needs wouldn’t be coming in the next day” but on the other hand she gave permission, suggesting that if I wanted to make a reservation he’d be more than welcoming to come in. I was refused refund. It was a terrible experience, and I started crying because people with special needs should not frequently be treated rudely and unfairly. The jacuzzi water seems to have a lot of chlorine to the point where your eyes burn, the massage was bad, no pressure was provided, the change rooms need to be updated, and so on. The entire facility needs renovation because it is filthy and mouldy.

Disappointed in quality of service - I went for a booked massage and a facial. The masseuse had long nails which felt uncomfortable and the massage oil was very cold on application. The whole massage seemed rushed and done quickly, with not much attention on the experience but rather getting through to take the next customer on. The masseuse also kept talking to me which I do appreciate some people may like, but I did not want to be asked about my work and other small talk topics (it may have been nice to be asked about this on the online form). The facial was also not a great experience, no headband was used, like it would be standard practice in other services, and a lot of this was also rushed and made products go into my eyes. Overall, I would suggest spending the equivalent money for a smaller, independent place which values quality over quantity.

The spa itself is good. Nice service, relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. The gym was also beautiful but the pool facilities and changing room were NASTY. Disgustingly dirty and so many people in the steam room (which is a great way to spread nasty infections) nobody used a towel and both the water from the pool and the jacuzzi was so dirty that I couldn't even see my feet. I left after 5 minutes.

I’m not a regular gym user but as the new year started I got the hype through the January urge to get fit. I decided to try the fitness classes and what a welcoming understanding and helpful experience. Each class has its unique workouts and I went from 1 class in 10days to 1 class every 2 days(still work in progress*) but you have to give dues where it’s deserved and I can happily take my hat off and say the staff and the class instructors in Bannatyne Chingford are fantastic! They put up with newcomers and make them feel welcome which is not an easy task when you are trying to maintain a certain level of fitness. Thank you to the team and I look forward to maintaining attendance to the classes throughout the morning, day and evenings. I appreciate the variety of times for classes great facilities always clean with wipes close by

Do NOT join. These people will scam you with their contracts. Even after your contract has finished they force more money out of you just to cancel your membership. The facilities are well below par. Gyms that charge as little as £14.99 have better equipment. The free weights area is tiny and equipment always out of order for months at a time. Disgusting company. You are better of taking your hard earned money elsewhere.

My best friend booked a spa day for us both as a birthday gift for me and it was such an amazing experience. The google reviews don’t do this place justice, the staff are very welcoming and kind. I had Haroulla for my massage and my friend had Cassandra and another lady we forgot to ask her name but they all were such a professionals and took really good care of us which made us instantly feel relaxed. They would go out of their way to help us even though we were late so a huge thank you. The pool, jacuzzi, changing rooms and the £6 spa set were very clean and tidy will definitely rebook in the future :)

Absolutely useless staff, have had the misfortune of dealing with the staff on multiple occasions and not once have I come away not feeling annoyed. IAN at the desk today... what a rude plonker you are! Didn't speak with any sort of respect until I asked your name and you realised a complaint was incoming, pitiful customer service. In short, don't use this center, overpriced for the overall experience. Plenty of other places in the area.

Came here with my partner for a treatment for two and to spend the evening in the spa facilities. We booked to have a treatment together but we were sent to different rooms. My treatment lasted no longer than 30m when we had booked a 45 min treatment. The treatment/massage was very average. Could of done a better massage myself. The facilities were ok, quite small sauna, steam room and “jacuzzi”. Clearly just for the locals, everyone knew each other and we felt a bit uncomfortable. Not for me.

Really tired place, needs a refurb. Went for a spa day and at best you could spend 3 hours there (including treatments). More of a gym with massage rooms as opposed to a spa. Mould on the ceilings in the changing room, so much scum in the jacuzzi you can’t even see your knees when sitting and had tiles missing. The relaxation room was nice but cold and massage itself was average at best. Staff seemed nice enough but not forthcoming with information about what was where but gave answers if asked. Did not use gym so cannot comment on that. Would not return nor recommend until it has been upgraded. Cleaner was sat on her phone in the changing room the whole time I was showering/ dressing, not cleaning at all which explained a lot. This is to all Bannatynes but paying to hire a towel when you’ve spent £100+ on a spa day is a joke!

Any option 0 stars?? Do not go here. They do not treat people equally and are not fair and their communication is poor/ very disgusting. My friend wanted to treat her mom for her birthday and wanted to take her cousin who has needs so as a wise person she called the spa to double check if her cousin could come and gave all the details needed. The manager ended up saying it was okay and that he could come whenever she wanted to bring him On the spa day, the story and information changed. My friend was told he was unable to have a turn due to his conditions. They discriminated him and basically ruined a fun lovely surprise for mom. The manager - CHANTAL WATSON was very very unprofessional, her tone and attitude were so disgusting On top of rejecting and discriminating against my friend's cousin. They also did not give a refund. I am so disappointed. What happens to treating everyone equally? What happened to respect other's differences? It makes me upset because if they could ruin a lovely family day due to an innocent person with needs imagine other families This is not okay and needs to be dealt with, especially the very nasty and unprofessional manager CHANTAL WATSON

Went as a couple's spa day through Virgin Experiences. It was an all round okay experience but there was certainly room for improvement with the massages. I did like the facial treatments however, the massage was rushed. Each treatment is to be 30 minutes and you have to arrive at least 15 minutes early to prepare between clients. Otherwise they'll take it out of your treatment time. All in all for the amount you're paying, probably expect leniency and more of a focus on customer service. However the actual Health Club staff were very friendly and made up for it. So I give it a 4/5!

Leisure centre, not a spa. Changing rooms filthy and smell. Lockers falling off walls nearly. You have to walk across the reception in your robe to get to the spa as the changing rooms are separate. Felt very uncomfortable doing this. Treatment ok. Overall experience is more stressful than relaxing! The gym looked decent though to be fair, and classes looked very energetic.

Visited as a birthday treat and this is one of the worst Bannatyne's I have visited. It is definitely more tailored for its gym members rather than spa guests. The pool is a disappointing size and was not very warm. There were only 3 loungers availableand already taken, and two normal chairs, again, taken. The jacuzzi has 4 main jets then the rest of it was tiled so you were simply sitting in a bath of warm-ish water whilst other people sat in front of the main jets. I admit, these jets were powerful when I eventually nabbed one. The steam room was very hot and steamy so good in that sense, but busy with people from the gym chatting loudly so not very relaxing. The sauna was not particularly hot. Went through to the main reception and "cafe" to get something to eat. Happy to see this place features a Starbucks and I asked for an Iced Caramel Macchiato. The staff member's service was not friendly and gave off a very cold vibe. My drink was also not made correctly as I couldn't taste or see any caramel. Again, I think she was more of a gym member of staff, rather than Starbucks. Had the tuna cheese panini for lunch and this was mediocre, not a lot of tuna or cheese present. The spa element was the saving grace for us. We were welcomed by a really lovely lady, who also did one of our massages. We loved the relaxation room and spent over an hour there. I would suggest they remove the water beds as the leather was cracking and this was quite uncomfortable to lay on. The massages were good! The only recommendation I would say for future massage goers is to research a bamboo massage as it is rather painful and extremely deep tissue. All in all, if you are looking for a nice Bannatyne Spa experience, try the Bury St Edmunds or Colchester branch, and avoid this one like the plague!

I do not recommend getting a massage. I booked a 45 min massage but my massage lasted 25 minutes. Very disappointed! When I left their was no one at the reception desk of the spa. Although receptionist at front desk was very helpful and welcoming. The sauna and steam room was very clean.

Went for a surprise spa treat today and everything was absolutely amazing. Staff were lovely and very professional from start to finish. The jacuzzi, sauna, steam and swimming pool were great. The food and service we had at the gym restaurant was also excellent. We had a issue with our wristband however a member of staff fixed this promptly and was very polite and helpful. The only reason I've given 4 stars is that the changing rooms (Female Male and family) are in urgent need to renovation. Corporate need to sort this asap especially the broken bench in the family change. The facilities were nice and clean so well done to the cleaning team. Apart from the facilities needing upgrading I would highly recommend this spa as the staff attitude, professionalism and all round ambience made it a wonderful experience.

Booked a massage and spa day for me and my partner. 1. On arrival you have to pay if you want a towel or robe to use whilst you are there which is shocking, never been to spa where a towel wasn't included in the day. You have to walk across reception and the atrium from the changing rooms to the spa so you need something. The towel they provide for purchase is small, be warned. 2. The massage and treatments itself were good hence the 2 stars. 3. The 'relaxation' room was freezing, was unusable in the attire you go to a spa in. 4. Mens changing room were tired, worn and dated. I could forgive it but the toilets were horrendous. I've been in council or public shopping centre toilets much cleaner than these. Tired, dirty and stunk of urine. 5. Hot tub was closed off so we weren't able to use it. Staff member just shrugged his shoulders and said he was gonna talk to his boss when she got in at 1pm.. 6.Was too cold to stand poolside and swimming pool wasn't warm enough. Had to go in steam room and sauna briefly, but was extremely crowded so just went home. Overall, inside the treatment room was great, everything around that was a joke. Avoiding bannatyne clubs as a whole. Much better to just book a massage or treatment individually as it's the only thing this had going for it.

Hello, I recently visited your spa as part of a 2 person spa experience. Unfortunately due to one of your beauticians needing to isolate we was unable to have our treatments at the same time which I wasn't particularly happy about as it meant we was apart for most of our time at your spa which wasn't as planned for our anniversary. However we was both very impressed with the beautician who did our treatments, she made is feel very relaxed, she knew I wanted to relax so didn't keep asking me questions or making chit chat. She had good knowledge about the products she needed to use for my skin which had flared up the day before & made me feel at ease about this. We both had a back massage which was so relaxing & she concerntrated on areas of concern

Had a spa day with my daughter in law for an Xmas treat. We had a mini back and head massage and one foot forward too. I was massaged by the wonderful Davia. She was absolutely amazing, made me feel super special and her technique was 5 star. I cant wait to go back for another one now. The staff throughout were friendly and informative and I couldn't think of a better gift. Thank you for making our dy special ❤️

Nothing but 5 starts. Carole gave me my massage and was an absolute delight. Gave me a lot of insight. You can tell she has a lot of experience and she is very knowledgeable. I highly recommend her for your treatment. I arrived at 9am, the receptionist we're lovely. The two ladies and the maintenance guy were very friendly when I arrived and explained everything to me clearly on where I needed to go. I went just for a day but I might buy a membership. Spent 7 hours going back and forth using the facilities. It's very good value for money and you'll definitely enjoy yourself!! :)

I went on a Thursday afternoon, so it was not too packed. I was really skeptical because the reviews are either good or bad. I got there on time but there was a mixup with the timing of my massages, and what they had on their screen was completely different from what I received in my email. A whole hour difference. I went straight in for the treatments (now earlier than planned). Princess did my massages and it was beyond my expectations. I got the back, scalp and foot massages. She was kind, professional, patient, and just great at her job. Ambience was spectacular. I then proceeded to use the steam room and showered after. Steam room was amazing, but mixed. Didn’t really like that, but it was barely visible and I went in my robe. Have to say, especially because visibility was low and it was at the back, I was really uncomfortable knowing that a man could walk in and no one could hear or even see immediately. I was tense and didn’t stay as long as I would’ve liked. Sauna was also mixed, so I didn’t bother. Showers were just okay, but the rest of the facility was great. Secure storage (bands actually work), hair dryers and straighteners, changing rooms, constant cleaning of changing spaces. Bathrooms were just okay. There was a café outside, and it was beautiful. You could get beverages, smoothies, snacks. I got a berry something, I think, and it was average. The relaxation room was also very serene. Treatments: 5/5 Other aspects: 3/5

I had a really great spa experience . Although I initially struggled booking online, I called reception and the lady managed to resolve my issue and was extremely kind and helpful. The ladies doing the massage and facial are lovely and the Elemis products they use smell and feel amazing. Will definitely book again

My Wife and I joined here a couple of months ago. We are both keen swimmers and this gym has a 25 metre pool. That's not too deep. We have been quite a lot recently and it really suit ours needs. This is an excellent gym and pool. The only downside was the pool has recently been closed because someone broke a glass container poolside. Not Bannatyne's fault but disappointing to have to go elsewhere to swim. We can't wait to get back there.

Paige and Venita were amazing with my mother and I, especially as it was my mother's first time at any spa. We just wish to say thank you so so much for such an amazing massage. Came in feeling super tight and stressed but going out super refreshed. We loved our time in the treatment room. The poolside area was busy but all the facilities were clean and sanitised throughout. I wish I had not read the reviews before coming as the staff on duty were amazing and nothing like the reviews stated. Will be booking Paige and Venita next year when we come back on holiday to London for definite

Very pleased with our experience! We received facial and massage by Bethany and Venita who were extremely polite and professional, put a smile on our faces and made our spa day very enjoyable! When we first entered the facilities, we thought the receptionist was very welcoming as much as the rest of the staff in the cafe. Thank you for such a lovely experience and hopefully we will see you soon! ☺️😉

This Health Club is very clean and well maintained with a wide variety of gym equipments. Sauna and steamroom are quite small but the indoor jacuzzi and swimming pool are a good size. They also have an outdoor jacuzzi which is nice to cool down and relax. Memberships are fairly priced but day passes (£15) are very expensive. 🤙
