😠 Puregym Whitechapel, whilst cheap, is the worst gym I have ever been to. These are my reasons: - Constantly cancel classes last minute without explanation (at least twice a week with the classes I book) - classes are WAY too overcrowded with limited space - I got hit in the arm yesterday with a weig... People often mention equipment, classes, staff, time, good, machines, class, clean, busy, people,

Wanted to have a quick tour after coming home from work, there is no reception. You're supposed to push a button so someone comes to guide you, pushed it, waited about 5 minutes, repeated that twice, nobody came. They could have sold a membership, but apparently nobody cared.

Too small! Also please update your equipment. Limehouse PureGym has newer machines, that have air conditioning installed (treadmill, elliptical). Please update your equipment!!! And make the gym bigger!!! I also do not like using the rowing machine with strangers looking in and staring. Can you put a cover on top of the glass

Nice gym, has plenty of equipment. Can be busy but for £20 a month not too many complaints. My only gripes are there are no antibacterial wipes or paper towels pods in the Club and the gym is too warm, the air-con seems to be very low maybe on economy setting.

Puregym Whitechapel, whilst cheap, is the worst gym I have ever been to. These are my reasons: - Constantly cancel classes last minute without explanation (at least twice a week with the classes I book) - classes are WAY too overcrowded with limited space - I got hit in the arm yesterday with a weight pole because we had to work out too close together - ceiling drips - I was splashed in the face with unknown liquid (sweat or pluming water?) + dangerous pools of water on the floor - no sinks in the changing rooms - you have to have a shower if you just want to wash your face + hands - 2 toilets for the entire gym! Definitely not cleaned often either - dust + hair in the sinks, bin bursting - Really unclean in general - They have changed their time table so their aren't any classes which suit my work hours of 10am - 6pm

I love the gym but it is mostly designed for man's. For Example there's no light weight kettlebell's?

As many others have noted, this gym is VERY frequently closed “ due to an on site maintenance issue”. They email to say it’s closed, and stress we can use a different PureGym location so we don’t have to miss a workout due to the issue. So I walk the extra 15 minutes to PureGym Aldgate, only to find it doesn’t open on the weekends. I check, and it turns out all other nearby locations are also closed on weekends. The nearest location is another 21 minutes walk away, and at this point I won’t have the time to get there, workout and get home. I am paying for a 24/7 gym and have now missed several workouts in the past couple of months because of this. The only suitable solution is a refund.

It is always overly busy to the point where you cannot even exercise. It has 3 toilets, for both men and women. I booked a class and I was there 10 min earlier and found no space at all so I couldn't attend the class. And I couldn't even use the rest of the gym because it was literally packed. Obviously you don't expect a gym to smell like flowers, but the last thing you want is to enter a gym and smell everyone's DNA in the air. It's such a let down that all of those reasons demotivate you from being active.

While the are in some classes You cannot use the space or the materials until the class ends. I pay for use the gym. This gym should separate the space for each without hindering personal training or classes. In addition to being small and with many clients and busy times.

SOOO STUFFY and hot. I just got to the gym and haven’t even started working out yet and I’m already dripping. After going in, it feels like a heatwave hit your face or that you’re entering a sauna. My glasses covered in condensation as soon as I entered…

Cheap(ish), but not very cheeful! A dingy basement gym in Whitechapel with no ventilation: smelly, hot, and busy. Equipment is okay but the free-weight area is small and the range of weights rather slim. If you were really keen, and on a budget, you might be able to put up with all of this. After one month, I decided life is too short and cancelled my membership which, by the way, is easier said than done...there is no simple way to do this via the website/app and the most straightforward thing to do is cancel the direct debit. A couple of days after cancelling, I received an email saying the gym was closed for maintenance (plumbing). A quick scan of other reviews shows that this is a recurring issue. Honestly, you'll have a better time buying a skipping rope and doing push-ups in the park. Save yourself £30 a month.

I gave you 5* exactly a year ago but it just got bad to 1*. The toilets by the lockers are ALWAYS full of water on the floor and bad smelling (most probably from the pipes), the soap dispensers in some of them are broken. The lockers on the floor are often dirty inside and many of them have a broken locker. I sent you an email requesting if you could add some LBT and Bodytone classes in the morning at 7/7:30am and extend ABS classes, no response. I sent a chaser - still nothing. Today I went to a class at 9am and guess what, the PT did not turn up lol I stayed there alone and just excersised myself. The fact that you give me a no-show because I did not turn up to the class where there are still 10spots available is a joke, yet it is okay for the PT not to turn up when there is just one person coming. I guess you do that to block to book classes for a week so that even less people turn up = no effort for you. Absolutely awful experience. It was so much better when Giampaolo was the manager, the PTs were friendly, motivated, chatty. Currently, if you see any PTs there they are only on their phones, looking absolutely demotivated. It became a sad place. There is only one lady from that previous era but I bet she will leave soon as well. As soon as I will get into my routine and will be more motivated to travel, I will definitely change the gym

Everything is ALMOST perfect...except for the air conditioning/temperature regulation. It is far too stuffy and it always seems like the AC isn't turned up high enough, or just that there is poor air circulation. As an experiment, I went to PureGym Limehouse for my previous cardio session and also checked out PureGym Canary Wharf quite recently... both were significantly cooler! As the days have been getting warmer, the Whitechapel branch has sadly become unsuitable for really intense cardio sessions. Kindly turn up the AC! Other than this, it is a fantastic gym and ticks all the boxes :) Thanks!

I really love the gym, I switched from Fitness First this year and was pleasantly surprised with the equipment and space. But, especially with everything going on at the moment the equipment is always really dirty and there is only one bottle of spray for the whole gym to whipe down after use but never any tissues or towle to do so. I flagged with management and social media, (with no response) especially in this current climate you need to offer antibac whipes (like fitness first or even the YMCA) and educate and encourage people to whipe down their equipment. I will be cancelling my contract - huge over site, regardless of this pandemic or not. It is money saving over hygiene

Superb atmosphere, friendly and very helpful staff, amazing classes. The instructors are so helpful and friendly. The Tuesday classes with Giampaolo was so good with lots of information about stretch and the main workout. The Vasillis bodytone class was amazing. He is always my favourite, his word "Bravo" always give us a kick. Wednesday Masaki LBT class was amazing.Love working with you guys as always.

Fantastic staff. Great classes and was greeted by a manager at the door for my first time. She made me feel so welcome and even introduced me to other members of staff. Since then I’ve been coming regularly and I love how the lady remembers my name. Was a bit concerned joining after reading the negative reviews but soon realised this gym is for me. Thank you again for making me feel welcome.

The gym is wonderful. Great equipment and friendly staff. It can get a bit crowded throughout the day but that's every gym. Only drawback is the ongoing plumbing issue in the last four months that causes the gym to be shut for a day or two. Really disappointing when you get notified about the closure and have to be relocated to Shoreditch or Aldgate for that duration. Hope they get it fixed soon or I may have to change my gym altogether.

I actually go to a couple of pure gyms around London and I prefer this on out of all of the ones I've visited so far. The staff by far are the most friendliest, and that counts for a lot because you don't feel awkward if you are starting out and it means they are approachable if you need help. Its surprising how much a simple nod, smile or hi as acknowledgment helps put you at ease and its amazing how many staff at other pure gyms do not do this. Everything is spaced out really well. They have most equipment. Although they do have combo seated row / lat pull down machine I miss the Diverted Seated row Machine which is in other sites. Clean facilities and convenient to get to via public transport

Been coming here since it opened. Small compared to other PureGyms in the borough, however you have all the equipment you need for a good workout. This gym is very clean compared to the others and weights are always re-racked and can be easily found. Great staff and management.

The gym is nice but there's always very bad smell. Is the air con working? also, they restricted they account as apparently I missed classes or I turned up late. Is not the case. I called the pure gym and the costumer service is very poor. I rather pay a bit more and have a decent gym!

I went to this gym early this morning as it gets busier later on. I went to do some good exercise and get weights done. ALL the weights are in different places 50s are on 10 and 8s are on 50! Some shelves are empty, some are on the floor?! WTH??? what a mess! Some weights run to different fields. When was last time it got sorted?? 🤷‍♂️ it says on the mirror🪞“Please return your weights to their home” what part of basic English people don’t understand?? I came to lift low weights but after sorting and putting them in there right home I managed to complete my workout for the day. Please guys after using them put them in right place, why make life difficult for others?? Thanks

Only been to this branch a few times, but every time it’s been a good experience. Always clean, staff are friendly and respectful, and never have to wait ages for kit. Definitely somewhere to go if you like to get your head down and workout quietly, with just as much as opportunity to be social. Also shoutout to Shane and Rosie for great classes!

Very small Puregym but I like it , and above ground which makes a nice change from the usual set up. The studio isn't sound proof so when a class is on it's a bit noisy

Good space with decent amount of equipment, especially squat racks. Not a big fan of the unnecessarily loud music during classes however, just distracting to others.

One of the smaller Puregym's I've been too, and above ground which makes a nice change from the usual set up. The time I went just after work mid week it was very, very busy, and it was a struggle to get on the equipment I wanted to use. The cardio studio isn't sound insulated and so when a class is on it's a bit annoying.

  • 4/5 Andreas K. 2 years ago on Google
Clean and well equipped gym with enough bench/squat places that you dont have to wait too long in peak times. Typical commercial gym music, bring headphones. For central london cheap.

It is way to hot, it can be -1 outside and hot inside. I remember I join the gym in summer and thought it was to hot and thought it would get better in winter but it hasn’t. I guess the reason is the manager want to be in a warm workplace even if for that has to ruin the workout of hundreds. It would be a nicer place to workout if it wasn’t hot and they could save money.

Small area for so many people.. Too expensive for what they offer and the location which is ( Whitechapel). I saw a guy in the gym without a t shirt and no one was there to tell him something ( staff) The "automatic door"..on weekends for a reason doesn't work..I saw that problem with many other people as well...so it's not automatic and you have to push it (when I saw it first time I thought it was closed) The barcode from the app doesn't work properly and I can't use it anymore and I have to use my password .. The app not good as well. And the worst thing for are the quality of the people that they are not have a towel for the exercises/machines so even if they are sweating are still using them and nobody is using the sanitaser or the hand cleaning. First time I visit a gym and it's rule number one to have a towel..if I could give 0 stars I would ...

I have been going to this gym for around 2 years now. Made friends with all the staff (Amrit is really kind and gives a lot of great tips!) and it is a good environment where you can easily connect with people. I've had no bad incidences since joining. Would recommend.

Been here quite a lot now. Never once have the dumbells been placed in nearly a correct order. The 44s are where the 8s should be etc, you'll be very lucky to find a pair as it's a total mess. I've been first thing in the morning, midday and late at night. Both dead and busy. Just shows the staff don't really care about it.

  • 2/5 Sally D. 1 year ago on Google
Gym is okay but the lockers in the locker room need to be looked at.. they weren’t locking for me and I tried a few different ones, as did some other people (we all have different padlocks, this isn’t the problem) but when I raised it to a member of staff he brushed it off to the fact that it just must be my padlock as the issue. I use the same padlock at multiple other PureGyms with no issues so don’t see why I should need to buy any other one just for the Whitechapel gym when the chances of having the same issue is very high. Atleast there should be a memo out warning people as the chances of theft in the locker rooms is quite high.

My class at my gym was canceled therefore decided to check out other classes on nearby gyms. One that I always attend was on so booked it and decided to give it a try. Trainer was way off the times rushing not allowing the correct time for each exercise, worst when it came to switching sides. One side would always be half the time. Didn’t feel like a workout and although trainer was late for class the class also finished early. Safe to say this will be the 1st and last time attending classes at this location.

I’ve been going for a while now and I enjoy my time there the changing rooms are also very clean. however, 9 times out of 10 the gym is WAY too warm making me feel like I’m going to pass out during or after a workout. It makes me want to leave as fast as possible to get cool air from outside, this gym also doesn’t have any Wi-Fi what’s another negative.

  • 3/5 Toby S. 5 months ago on Google
Good sized gym which is not too busy outside of peak hours. However, it has had no working WiFi for months and frequently feels like it is not air conditioned at all. Edit: today I came into the gym and it was so warm that me and my partner were sweating before we even started working out! Please use the air-conditioning PureGym!

I train frequently throughout the week in Puregyms for years, and have been to many branches in the London area (mainly East). I enjoy attending them as the range and quality of equipment generally is very good. Though I find the same issues across the board in a most I've visited with main ones being members leaving the place a mess (sweat on equipment ?, bad upkeep when there are long standing faults, and cleanliness of equipment; where I've felt some staff selectively impose rules, sometimes too lazy or scared to approach members. When I've delivered feedback in person or online, I've had the same replies of "there are signs...", or "the rules are stated in the policy...". However if the issue remains, something is not working. When speaking to staff in different branches asking them what they do to repeat offenders? Many have delivered the same excuses, "we can't watch CCTV...". Speaking with a member of staff about this in Whitechapel, he told me what he did when airing similar concerns, and how he worked with his Manager to stop this by helping setup a new process to identify offending members. The end result is very readable signs supporting rules, reporting how many members were suspended the previous week, and a clean & tidy gym with little/no sweat on equipment as spray bottles and wipes are everywhere. Hat's off to this gym's staff, great customer service and friendly staff with good sense!

Impossible to speak with staff. Twice I've waited 30+ minutes at the entrance after pressing the button for assistance multiple times and not a single member of staff has appeared. I was hoping for a tour before I signed up but it seems to not actually be an option. Also the number to call given below the button is a generic puregym number so is not really a useful alternative.

The reason why I'm giving this gym five stars is purely out if respect for all the fitness coaches. Each class is so scientifically planned , and it's tailored to give you a great burn , irrespective of whether it's 30 or 45 minutes ! Not to mention , it's super clean and well maintained, at a very nominal price ! Keep up the great work, you guys. ☺️

Does the job, and then some! Not that great selection of classes, but there are women only classes which give some nice options for women. The free weights and facilities in general have everything you could want packed in a compressed size. Apart from people who put the free weights back in the right place!!! Love the boditrax and drink machines that I can use with my extra membership. Staff are also great, have been very helpful.

Decided to pop in and check out this new branch. All you see are entry pods and no human presence. Pressed the bell, finally someone came and asked if she could help? I asked if i could look around before joining. She escorted me in, we stood in the middle of the gym, she simply pointed at each area and said, "That's the cardio area, that's the free weight and over there are the machines. toilets were pointed out with a nod of the head, that was the end of the tour, she wasn't rude but trying to get info from her was like getting blood from a stone. I asked about the lockers and changing room, which she said were downstairs. Where downstairs was i had no idea. I asked about the classes, info feedback was limited. Now i've checked their website it turn out she is actually the manager Hannah wharton. Come on Hannnah must try harder to make everyone feel welcome! so my first training session and trying to find my bearings and machine layout, what machine does what. I asked one of the trainers who seemed busy on his laptop, where a particular machine was? He pointed and said opposite that machine. I had to ask him several times, but he wouldn't get off his seat to show me, instead just kept pointing and telling me where it was, can you guess who it was? Giampaolo Manca the Assistant Gym Manager. Come on, what the heck is going on with you two, what kind of an example are you setting for your staff and more importantly what kind of impression are you giving your clients. Not impressed, however, i watched Giampaolo Manca give a tour to two people, he seemed polite with them and gave a full tour answering all their questions, more information then i got, additionally, he spent more time with them then i got from Hannah. Over all, a nice gym, as it's new it's clean, the machines are in good working order. The first member of staff i talked to was polite and helpful, but i didn't get his name. The other thing i would like to see is a notice board with Gym Etiquette, If you wander off and leave a machine, don't start telling the next user that you're using it when you're nowhere near it.... or doubling up on machines, (alternating between 2 machines) use one machine and be considerate towards other users. These are simple things but you'll be amazed at how selfish some people can be.

Nice and clean gym with well maintained equipment. The app is great for checking how crowded it is before you go. Good value for money.
