I've been working out at the site in Stepney green and have realised there is no air circulation and the AC are turned off. Even yesterday on 10th May there was around 100 people when I went around 9.20pm and all the AC was turned off. The site as its a underground gym it was literally humid, very hot, and I was struggling to breathe. The whole gym in the weight lifting area was complaining too and there was no one at the gym to rais this concern and turn the AC on. I don't understand how you expect people to train in these conditions when scientifically heat and humidity takes 40% of your energy away and its important to control your breathing and breathe in and out when needed but how are you supposed to do this when there isn't any air in the gym.

As a multi-site member I like to think I can assess each gym fairly across the group. This is by far the most untidy, foul smelling and unimpressive branch I have visited, and I trained here on and off for a month. To expand, people lack basic gym etiquette so they leave all the weights on their squat racks/olympic bars and do not return equipment to its original place. It also seems to be acceptable not to use deodorant in this gym which just makes it a gross environment. In a month, I saw (one of) the managers venture outside of the office on one occasion and only on one occasion did I see a cleaner. Really poor. If it hadn’t had been a convenient location I wouldn’t have returned.

First let me start off by saying that the gym has a lot of equipment and space to have an effective workout, which is good. The problem is, one part of the gym has good air ventilation (the weights area/squat area etc), and the other part doesn’t (especially the ‘women only area’ and area with cardio machines as well as the functional area), and on top of that they added “air fresheners” to these areas, which is really just toxic chemicals sprayed in the air causing headache and other health issues. There’s enough studies done on “air fresheners” that show direct damage to health, and especially in the gym where you’re working out and your lungs are opened at full capacity, this should NOT be used. Please please please remove those toxic air fresheners and rather work on proper air ventilation if anything. I love this gym but those air fresheners give me a headache every time:(

It’s an ok gym, materials and machines are the standard for any The Gym but when compared to other gyms from the same chain in London it feels more crowded, it’s also underground but the aircon doesn’t work at all times so it gets too hot. If possible I would recommend you to chose another gym of the same chain in London as they will feel more premium and probably won’t have to wait as long for a piece of equipment to become available.

Variety of equipments, friendly staff, nice environment. However, they could do a better job with cleaning. Washrooms are not well maintained. However, the shower facilities are neat. Overall, a decent place to workout.

I'm a multi-site member and have been going to this one for about a year. Thoughts: 1. fix the lockers - some of the doors and locks have been broken for months and it's really frustrating trying to find one when it's busy 2. Around 6 benches for bench press etc. For a gym this busy and this size it needs double that or a 2nd free weights room. Again very frustrating when even mildly busy as it's a popular section. 3. The women's only space is never busy. Move the stretching/crunches section into there or create a second one - the current stretch/crunch zone is too small and you have to squeeze past a punch-bag... Overall, the space needs a re-lay and to really think about doing a few things well rather than attempting everything under the sun.

Spacious gym with a variety of equipment, but hand sanitiser and disinfectant sprays not being refilled as frequently anymore. Understand that COVID is less of an issue now but for general hygiene it would be beneficial as equipment can harbour lots of nasty bacteria. Another suggestion would be to move the hip thrust machine facing the wall to make using it more comfortable experience without being stared at.

the gym owners are very desperate to getting good reviews on Google that they are marketing a lot with posters inside the gym. But this Stepney Green gym group is following very poor maintenance. Not a single wall clock is working , battery gone ages ago , couple of time I noticed but no result.the gym is in basement so no proper ventilation, by midday it stinks with gym members sweat & hot breathe but never seen they sprayed any air freshener ever .shower only option is hot showers , u can’t do it cold or adjust it .& the amount of hotness is really detrimental for head / hair.there is no options for mental depression patient who needs cold shower as a remedy.

By far the most unorganised and understaffed gym. There are always too many people in the gym. People just weights anywhere and don’t rack them back. Most of the people are not very friendly. I’ve had so many instances where people are just hogging machines, benches, or 2-3 sets of dumbbells. There’s always just 1 staff who’s majority of the time attending to a client. I was previously going to the Greenwich one and that gym had a better crowd, people didn’t hog machines and weights. There was always 1 member of staff who would rack the weights back if they spotted any.

I don't recommend it, I suggest you don't become members. You will not be able to unsubscribe. After 2 years of being a member, I tried to cancel my membership. I followed the instructions they givd me and the following month they charged me the monthly payment again, I complained and they said that they would cancel my membership. Surprise, the next month they charged me the monthly payment again. I have written to them again and no one answers me. If you become a member you will have many problems to unsubscribe. The gym is underground and it is very hot, despite this they do not put on the AC, and what there is is insufficient. The locker rooms and showers are dirty. You can find a better gym, sure.

The changing room is a horrible. The last time I went it smelt of body odor it was unbearable I had to change in the back of my car instead. Please add some air fresheners / air conditioning in the changing room. Despite the changing rooms the gym itself is decent, not the best but definitely not the worst. The equipment is a 3.5/5.

Good gym, friendly staff, loads of equipment! However my main complaint/enquiry is that the girls locker room closes at 1am however the boys is 24/7 open. I understand the safety regulations behind this however there is no area for females to use the bathroom or change after these hours!

if i could give 0 stars i would! DONT BOTHER WITH JOINING THIS GYM! WORST GYM IVE BEEN TO IN LONDON! Theres no ventilation throughout the whole gym, equipment is old and dirty, walls are cracked, no staff, the gym does not encourage or take in negative feedback judging from their copy & pasted responses to these reviews. Don't waste your time or money here, been once and that was enough for me to withdraw my membership! They blame it on funding even though everyone pays almost £30 per month these days, obviously just care about money than fitness and health.

Just had my first gym class with one of the instructors (Ellen) in the gym, honest opinion I liked it a lot they went through everything clearly and made the class intense and fun as well. The gym has a good amount of equipment for a lot of different exercises. Definitely recommend this gym for those who are begging their journey as the staff are very friendly and easy to approach

Live tracker of how many people are in the gym has intentionally been bugged.. it shows 20 people but when you go theres at least 60 people there. This gym is almost always packed so would be good to know when it's actually busy or not. I went the other day when the app said there weren't many people there and all 10 benches were full, with people waiting. Not ideal.

By far the best gym I have ever been to! The staff are so incredibly friendly and I have only had positive encounters with the members. Thank you to all the personal trainers who took their time to correct my form and help me improve even though you had no obligation to do so. You can tell that the people who work there do so because they love it. Cannot thank you enough!! Highly recommend this gym.

There’s never any staff members to help, even the visitors would get stuck out without help. Terrible service regarding staffing levels to help with any pin issues. And they claim 24 hour help line. If you rely on technology no need for human employees, little should they know even technology fails and needs a human assistance. Terrible service.

I want to thank the new manager and cleaners for their efforts to improve the gym. However, it is about time the gym stopped being 24 hours and bans were enforeced. The weights just get thrown about and no one cleans up after themselves. If the gym was only open between 6am to 10pm the gym would improve as the place needs to be monitored at all times to improve members gym etiquette. The other ones I use in the chain the members are respectful and tidy.

I've been to so many gyms through the years and it's definitely the place I've felt most comfortable with. Lifting area and open mat area is EXTREMELY busy during the evening peak hours but I'm generally a Morning Gym goer so I rarely see the peak period. Staff are very friendly, gym is clean. Members need to do a better job at replacing equipment in their correct areas

Great Gym Overall: Been over a year I trained in Stepney Green. Great Atmosphere. Great & Friendly Staffs. Good equipment. Only drawback is in the evenings it is literally packed and have no room to train - not a huge problem though as I switched my training to mostly mornings... @aiming2be.hench

After a long time hesitating to join 'the gym' , due to my prejudice, I am now a delighted member. This gym is very clean and very well equipped, all machines are new and all in top condition. For the first time in my life I have dared to do the classes, was always afraid I couldn't do it or not be able to keep up. The instructors are ALL really amazing, such versatile offer on classes throughout the day. I have been put right back into shape purely doing classes. I can't stop praising the instructors, they are all beyond great and super friendly and motivating. Today I showed up to my class and strangely enough I was the only one attending, so Ellen ( she's bloody amazing ) provided me with a PA session, she could have cancelled the class but instead she went beyond and took me to the machines and gave a PA session for 45mins instead of the initial 30 mins class duration.

Equipments in decent shape, when something breaks down it gets fixed fairly quickly. The place tends to be pretty cold and the placement of some A/C units could be better (right in your face when on the elliptical for example). Also some "regulars" hog equipments and are loud as hell. Not really the gym's fault but they could say something instead of tolerating

Great gym! Tons of space and a good number of equipment. No real issue with queuing for machines. Staff are professional and friendly. Only caveat is that the floors, and changing room facilities could be cleaner and less broken.

  • 4/5 freya g. 1 year ago on Google
Clean, friendly and good range of equipment given the small size of the gym. Only downside is that there's usually at least 2 running machines out of order, in peak times this means there aren't enough

  • 4/5 RASB 2. 1 year ago on Google
Good gym. However the water fountain water is not cold unlike other gyms. Unsure if that is deliberately done so members purchase the extra option for hydration machine. The gym temperature should be slightly cooler- slightly on the warm side.

I've been going to this gym for over two years, I have had a few PTs and they have always advised me to take off my shoes for a certain type of exercise, so as not to damage my back. After two years, the New General Manager ( Mark ) with total arrogance and rudeness, told me to wear shoes. I tried to make him understand that even if he was right, it would have been nice to let me finish the last exercise and that the following day I would have bought suitable shoes with low soles. I think that being a manager means knowing how to help people without the need of being rude. I found his way of speaking totally inappropriate for a Manager’s position.

Early mornings, afternoon 13:30 to 16:00h and late evenings are the least busy hours in my experience. Of course the day of the week matters, but if you're greedy like me and you want to own up the floor - try those time slots with lesa traffic,as they're subscribing too many members without thinking of the limitations in space, equipment and mobility of the rest of the members in uaing the space. I don't have a personal trainer, but my observations are that the PT & assistants are very polite and knowledgeable, (no idea of their appropriateness levels) and their group classes are always intense - which means they must work. Cheap fare of 32 quid a month including flavoured mineral water + vits you can dispense from every 20min. The only reason I give them 3🌟, is due to the poor toilet facilities, shortage of roomy lockers and the changing room in overall. I've see people holding their belongings for over an year at a time, and the staff never cut their locks altho is their policy to "not leave stuff in lockers overnight" they are very unfair and inconsistent with thwir policies (picking and choosing like on a buffet, and that's not the way) - I've monitored over an year at a time the same locks (belonging to the same people) were there 24h and never left the bigger/more roomy lockers. That's frustrating, and even more is - when i did happen to leave my stuff only once for one weekend (and it was simply because I had no room in my bag) - exactly then they cut everyone's locks that left them overnight (including myself) and threw our belongings away. Soooo watch out bout those guys. All about money and numbers sharks.

Rearrangement of the gym has completely ruined the gym. The old management left and new management have ruined it. Why move the squat racks to a place where theres no mirror to help you out and then moving the bench press where people come in. Why change something that dosent need changing. Hope they fix this by moving atleast the squat racks back to where it was before

After being a member for about 4 years, I have now left this gym. The gym still has a large selection of equipment which are largely well maintained however over the past few months the gym has seen an influx of young student members who come in groups, mess around and hog machines. I am not sure if the gym have some running promotion which has caused this but something has definitely changed. I am no longer able to enjoy this gym because the gym is very busy all the time, not only peak times as it was over the past years.

  • 4/5 Haru L. 10 months ago on Google
Overall it’s a great gym. Plenty of machines and equipment to use. Staff is friendly and always there to help It could be great if it would be announced toilet doors close at 1am until 4am, as I had to find out when I couldn’t get in to get my stuff. I would like it even more if we could have a full body mirror in the ladies toilet, everyone needs to quickly check up before leaving :)

This is a nice enough gym I suppose. I'm new in the area so I'm not used to such a crowded facility, perhaps that's just London living, Londoners it seems aren't in the habit of returning equipment and there's no staff helping tidy up so if you want to swap plates out for a bar you've just secured you're going to be wandering around the facility trying to figure out what you can/cannot swipe from other attendees. Also not sure why the floor is so uneven throughout? Perhaps it was too much work for the labourers and they just figure we'll compromise on our form when we're doing deadlifts - which I don't mind to do of course - but when you're trying to do situps on a bench rocking side to side you do start to wonder. My biggest complaint though is at the lack of disposable wipes, I can't understand why this is something they've cheaped out on, every gym I've attended provides these but I guess The Gym Group must have some contract with Wuhan Virology to ferment only the most sophisticated hybrid virus from everyone's pooling sweat on all the equipment. Definitely do *not* be putting your fingers to your mouth if you come to this gym!

The gym overall is good. The floor is not levelled even on the squat area. I felt insecure squatting there. Other than that its a good gym. They are underground so there is no windows. Sometimes the heater is on and it is quite warm (more than necessary) which makes the training uncomfortable. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
