🚇 Bethnal Green 🍺 £5.50 London Pilsner ❤️ A stylish Bethnal Green watering hole. . The Sun Tavern is nestled on a corner on Bethnal Green Road and is just a stones throw away from Bethnal Green Tube. . Originally opened in 1851 as The Sun Inn. Refurbished in the Seventies, some of its original decor lost, this place faced closure for many years. In 2014 The Sun Tavern was born. . This is a compact place with a distinct cocktail bar feel. The decor consists of exposed brickwork, weathered timbers and a stunning contemporary servery. The seating is a mix of stools around the bar and ledges, at the front and back of the bar are comfy banquettes and low level stools around tables. . I had a slight faux pas when trying to order a beer, I noticed there were no pumps on the bar so I asked if they sold beer? I then noticed the ten pumps behind on the back bar which were so obvious just after I asked the question 🤓. I ordered a pint of London Pilsner, my pint was tickerty boo and under six quid. There is a good selection of cocktails and spirits to go at, most cocktails cost around £9. No food as such but you can order Mediterranean style nibbles to soak up the sauce. . I turned up mid afternoon on a Saturday and there were a dozen or so punters in attendance. The crowd was predominantly hipster with only two looking like Meg from Family Guy. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the service was spot on, the gentleman who served me after my faux pas was gracious and personable. Not long after I settled in some musicians came in to set up for the evening’s entertainment, we exchanged a bit of banter on the amount of gear they had, a nice bunch of fellas. One side note, the Khazi plays whale music which makes for a unique toilet experience. . @thesuntavernbg is more bar/cocktail-bar with a hint of pub. Ten years ago someone saved this place and turned it in to a popular destination for a younger upcoming crowd which is commendable. I enjoyed my visit here but maybe not one for pub traditionalists, this is a great place to bring your better half. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 04.02.23

One of the few places making beautiful and traditional Irish coffe in the area. They sometimes offer live music and the service is super friendly. Great selection of Irish whiskeys!!! Recommended

Been to the pub twice first time brilliant bar staff nice and friendly but the second time I was with a friend and we were accused of taking drugs sitting next to the bar now I'm not an angel but I'm not a liberty taker so won't be going back 👎this is all wrong I got the pubs mixed up had a great time in the sun B/Green Road and will be going back, the pub I won't be going back to is the Dundee Arms Cambridge Ev Road I got mixed up. I have made a big mistake with my review of this pub I had a good time and the staff were very nice and friendly will go back 💯👍🍺 sorry for the mix up ❤️

Came here on a pleasant Sunday afternoon and even though it was empty and early we were greatly very warmly and had a nice table. The staff were absolutely amazing, kind and friendly. Great selection of cocktails and drinks on the menu. Highly recommend the punch bowl it was amazing and not too sweet. The Irish whisky selection is like none other, a true unique collection. Had an awesome day tasting poitins, whiskey and beer. World class spirits selection. A must stop for anyone Irish or interested in Irish spirits. Cannot speak highly enough of barman Zak who took great care of us, highly attentive, knows his stuff, went over and above and was great company, dude is a legend. Look after him Sun Tavern.

Wonderful bar with some pretty creative drinks. Tried the whiskey based specials and was not disappointed. Nice vibe and very attentive service. Was there rather late on a Sunday evening and a live concert was just wrapping up - pretty unexpectedly cool ;) Next time will come earlier! Thanks for everything guys, it was a fun evening

Love the vibe. Great selection of beer and ciders. Had a bottle of wine im the afternoon with a very tasty selction of cheese and salami. Every single element of this place is absolutely adorable. Mirror in the ladies too!

This lovely small pub is located at the 441 of Bethnal Green Rd, London E20AN The Sun Tavern is a cozy and very intimate place where you'll gonna enjoy your staying, especially during the evening when you will be delighted by the candle light. To the best of my experience is one of the pub with the greatest with whiskeys selection. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Prices are in accordance to what you will choose to have, if you're in for a treat you could end up by paying 30 pounds for a double Bushmills 21 Years Old, so choose wisely! The prices for a beer or a Jameson are absolutely in line with other places around here. They accept both: cash and cards! Still an amazing place!

Amazing little boozer focusing on beers and cocktails. Despite having the appearance of a classic pub, the cocktails do not disappoint in the slightest and the craftsmanship on display is outstanding. Friendly staff. Highly recommended that you give this place a try if you're in the area.

Firstly the bar smells terrible and damp. Attitude from staff is horrendous. Complained about my drink that it had to much ice and the self proclaimed owner replied with a ''you better go to mayfair if you wanted to be treated like royalty''. A very pretentious place run by very unprofessional people.

Consistently a delight. Friendly staff, expansive whiskey collection, and lighting dark enough for anyone to be attractive. 10/10

A place where they want you to notice the music, ‘cause it’s good! Stripped back decor, heavy-handled beer mugs, laid-back cool. If they keep the place afloat selling the odd £100 shot of poitin to the tourists, no problem. Keeps it going for the rest of us #15 #45

We enjoyed a Sunday evening cocktail here; I particularly recommend the Bonnie Margarita made with scotch bonnet chillies if you like your drink with a kick! Also a good range of local beers and an incredible range of Irish Whiskeys which we will definitely try next time. Bar staff were friendly & knowledgeable and it was a warm and friendly place.

Quality quality pub. Great vibes and not anymore pricier than nearby (mainly because everywhere else is more expensive but there you guys!). Check it out if you haven't done so already. You won't be disappointed.

Called in here on the off chance as we were in the area and my friend is from Bethnal Green and remembered the place from years gone by. We were very warmly welcomed by a lovely Irish guy and enjoyed a well pulled pint of London Black and a vodka. We were joined by a couple of long time locals who were also friendly and chatty. Nice place, a good feeling about it and we'll come back soon. Give it a try

My girlfriend and I love coming here! The staff are friendly and the cocktails are well balanced and interesting, the best I’ve had in a pub by a mile and better than most cocktail bars. The atmosphere is always warm and homely, and Darcy the host always does a great job looking after us

10 out of 10 on atmosphere, loved the rustic look and the lights. The staff is really friendly, polite and helped my friend with all her weird requests. We didn't have any food, but they have some inviting stuff on the menu that we will surely try next time. Only negatives, the main door was kept open all the time (mid february) and they gave us the table right next to it and i had to keep my puffa on all the time. i don't want to keep my jacket on on a night out. Also, i wish there was a better selection of alcohol free beers as the only one they had was very weird tasting.

Really nice and chilled pub. It is a great place to enjoy a beer or two in good company without being distracted by loud and annoying music. The staff was super friendly and provided us with some late night restaurant tips. The pub is offering a great selection of drinks at fair prices. Give this pub a visit if you are around!

One of my favourite pubs in London. Atmospheric, dark and cosy, and occasionally they have live music. Really good coctails and knowledgeable staff, I recommend this place for dates too.

To put it simply… this place is incredible. I had my birthday of 20 guests at this place on a Saturday night 5pm-1am and WOW was I impressed!! I’ve never been so well looked after by the staff at a bar like I was at The Sun Tavern. Firstly, as we were a large group, all staff constantly made sure that we had enough space for all guests to sit. Even at a time when there wasn’t, they moved chairs and candles without prompt to set us up a makeshift sitting area just so everyone could be comfortable. The staff were incredibly lovely to each and every single one of us offering the best table service EVER. It made the night so much more enjoyable as no one had to hover over a crowded bar at any point of the night. It also was a great atmosphere, great music and the music volume + overall volume of the place was not extremely loud which meant that you were never screaming to have a conversation which I feel is always a problem in bars on a Saturday night - it really did add to the night being GREAT. If you’re ever considering having your birthday here - just do it. You honestly won’t regret it!! Thank you to everyone who worked on the 2nd of April and made this night absolutely perfect. You were all amazing!!!

This is one of the best bars in London. The cocktails are always really good, change seasonally, and are quite sofisticated. The atmosphere makes this bar even better. On a weekend night you'll always find it with a crowd, nice music and lovely staff.

Flew in from Vancouver and this was the first place I stumbled upon and what a gem!!! Great drinks, amazing staff and awesome atmosphere. Not many bars are as busy as this one with such conscientious staff. Google need to add an extra star for this one!! Six out of five for The Sun Tavern!!!

There was no where to go with my colleague in our area and they let us in and welcomed us to our own table and service. Chris was very polite as well as the other staff and we were very well looked after all night. Great music, price and vibes. Definitely coming again soon (spiced rum here is amazing(

Great bar team. Very attentive and nice to talk too. Same goes for the door steward - thoroughly decent chap. Craft cider and beers on tap - varying week to week on rotation. We also had a sharing platter which wasn't huge, but good quality and tasty.

Finest whiskey selection in London, service is unbelievable! Each bartender can make three different cocktails in under 3 minutes. I’ll always go back to this bar!

Been a fair few times over the past couple of years. Cocktails and beer selection are great, staff are very attentive and their Irish Coffee is to die for. Find the music a bit loud on Friday/Saturdays but I think I'm just getting old ..

Don't usually put up reviews but had such a nice time last I had to, cocktails, whiskey and beer was great, huge selection of whiskey and the food was really nice! And to Micky, i hope I am remembering the name right, he was great, new his stuff, recommended a good whiskey, and a nice ale and was so nice to talk to! Will be back ASAP

Stopped by the Sun Tavern for a quick drink in between errands and was pleasantly surprised about how quick time flew. I was greeted with a super friendly welcome from staff and checked in using the NHS Covid app, a requirement to enter. It was not overly busy upon my visit which was around 1230 on a weekday. I sat at the side of the bar at a small table near the door and took time to take in the pub. The Sun Tavern features a wonderful collection of what seems like 100's of whisky's, a pleasant browse for me. There was also many different Gin's, vodka's and wines with the obvious assortment of ale's, beers, lagers and ciders. Nothing is off the menu with cocktails being another speciality of the bar staff. Although the menu is not large I opted for some bread and oil which was promptly served and I enjoyed this with a citrus ale. In the evening (pre covid) this place would be a fantastic place to enjoy with friends and family and with its fantastic selection of alcohol and super welcoming staff, I would visit this place again in a flash!

What a treat this place is! The vibe is awesome, it’s clean yet dark lit and something of a “Charlie and the chocolate factory” meets “leave your ego at the door” type place. Cocktails are made with love, the team there genuinely seem to love working there (scarce in london) and the tapas are tasty, a basket of bread sticks that crumble in your mouth they’re so good! Do yourself a favour, have the hummus too! What a vibe!

Nothing but good things to say about this place. We were there on a busy Saturday but were looked after all night from the minute we got in the door. Top marks!

Great customer service and care. The atmosphere and vibe was so welcoming and hospitable even during the whole Corona vibe. Every precaution was taken and they were very sanitary. Can't wait to go there again and check out their extensive whiskey list
